33rd Street Cafe

Came here out of desperate starvation. Usually people would say when you’re starving you would eat anything, however, this was not the case here. Came with four other people, all the others were very dissatisfied with their food. My fish tasted like it wasn’t cleaned. And food was very greasy. Our waiter was TERRIBLE. Dude must have been on something, because man was he confused. FIND SOMEWHERE BETTER. Didn’t even finish the food. Straight in the trash.

Great drinks. Nice to find an unpretentious spot on the boardwalk. And the servers were really attentive.

We enjoyed this place for breakfast everyday while we stayed at the Oceanaire. Excellent breakfast items, great service and reasonably priced.
It’s under new management by a nice lady who pays attention to detail. Katie runs a fabulous café. Don’t waste your time at Pocohontas for breakfast. The service is terrible and you have to sit elbow to elbow with the people around you.
You also get a beautiful view of the ocean while enjoying a quiet breakfast.

Worst dining experience of my life. It would have been better to eat dog food. Not to mention the place is run down and dirty. Half way thru my raspberry smash I noticed my cup was filthy. My fiancé had something floating in her drink. Stay away at all cost !!!

Reasonable price and decent service. My daughter had the tuna and garlic mashed potatoes, that was pretty good. My son ordered a hamburger, but they were out so they substituted a steak on a roll instead. I had the pork bbq, not visually appealing, but it tasted ok.

Solid 3! Perfect for something fairly quick and simple when you don’t want to venture far from the boardwalk. The food here will whet your appetite after jumping waves. Get a seat at the patio for ocean views. The chairs are standard plastic patio furniture — not exactly comfy, but you won’t stay long and it’ll help you dry off after a dip in the water. I tried their Bacon, turkey and ham sandwich (which is like a burger-​size club sandwich) and homemade crab cake sandwich. Get the fries and the very tasty pasta salad for the sides instead of the cole slaw.

I had a solid dinner here. The prices were average for the area, the food was alright, and the service was sufficient. If I lived in the area I might return every once in a while, but it definitely wouldn’t be a must-​visit. For dinner after a very long day of travel, it was incredibly satisfying.

Update! prices went up! domestic beer went up to $ 5.00 a beer. Shrimp was very hard to peel. what causes that? Quite disappointed, thought we had found a great place to eat and visit at the beach. Was told if we wanted Lumpia, that the lady upstairs in the hotel made them. What? Is that legal and sanitary?

I went here because I wanted a burger with a great view of the ocean. The view was great, service I can’t complain about. I got the onion/​mushroom burger with swiss. First off the burger was a frozen greasy patty which turned the bun into a soaked greasy mess of a bun. The mushrooms were definitely from a can, they were a mushy mess just poured on the burger with a slice of what tasted like it could of been imitation swiss cheese. I only ate half the hurger it was the worst thing I have eaten in many years. The fish and chips my wife ate she said was not bad, but not great, it was ok for the price.

No idea what the food tastes like because we sat for nearly 30 minutes, on a SLOW morning, without being served. They didn’t even take our order! They can’t say they forgot about us either! The old skinny server kept walking past us and making comments about our talkative 9 month old. We watched two other tables get sat and served after we sat there for 30 minutes so we left. $ 5.50 for two coffees and NO SERVICE?! NEVER GOING BACK.

Great find, close to our hotel — outdoor patio is great for families. Not fancy and still a little pricey, but $ 10-​$ 15 cheaper than other nearby restaurants. No crab legs on the menu. Nice breezy boardwalk/​ocean view. Unpretentious and yummy!

Breakfast was phenomenal and at a great price! Beautiful view of the beach. Looks like nothing special from the outside but give it a try! You won’t regret it.

We ate breakfast here on two consecutive mornings. Fancy it isn’t. Classic, dependable omelets, scrambled and poached eggs. All served on green melamine plates and flatware so thin that you could use telephony to bend your spoons. Bottomless cup of coffee and great service.
The scrambled eggs with corn, bacon and scallions was our favorite. If you must start your day with a smoothie or latte, go overpay at Starbucks. If you want a solid beach breakfast, the 33^rd Street Café is the place.

There are plenty of other places to eat around here. Need to be careful w Unilocal because many of the reviews are not genuine. Notice many of the reviews are by one and two review reviewers as of now. The caribbean chicken tasted like it was cooked in a microwave and was not marinated and felt like rubber. The shrimp scampi was drenched in butter… plain disgusting. One good thing about the place is that it has outdoor seating by the boardwalk.
I do not plan on going back.

Great fresh seafood with an ocean view. Even better was our server, Debbie. Her menu suggestions were great and the service was outstanding. We had our 2 young granddaughters with us and she treated them like princesses.
We’ll definitely be back!

Wow for the first time I’m not influenced by other reviews to lower my rating.
This restaurant is nice, laid back, casual and inexpensive. It was right next to our hotel so we went for lunch on Sunday and sat outside overlooking the boardwalk. The crab cake sandwich was very good. The service was fantastic. One of my friends made up her own mozzarella sandwich and the waitress told us she would be using basil from a little garden they planted. How cute?!

I am super surprised at the 2-​star reviews! My boyfriend and I came here on Saturday afternoon around 2:30. We did a little dance in the doorway (should we sit? do we wait? I think we should sit, no wait.) until one of the waitresses told us to sit where ever we pleased.
We had only brought $ 25 to the beach with us, so we only ordered waters, which were promptly refilled every time the liquid fell below half-​full.
I ordered the chicken sandwhich and fries, while the boy orded the blackened fish sandwhich with pasta salad. Probably the best no-​fills chicken sandwhich I had ever had– it must have been brined because it was super juicy. The french fries were just ok, but the bf thought that all they needed was a little ketchup. I didn’t get to taste the pasta salad (he inhaled it) but the blackened fish was amazing. The roll was fresh, the fish was fresh, it was just a pretty incredible lunch time treat.
The service was great and friendly. Our waitress checked in with us just the right amount of times without being to over-​bearing or neglectful.
Will probably go back for another lunch the next time we are in VA beach.

I wish I had a better experience with this café. We sat down on a Sunday for breakfast and waited about 40 minutes for someone to even take our order. I understand Sundays are busy but during busy season I would hope most places at the beach would staff with enough people. However having said that the staff was very nice and apologized for the wait. This is your typical diner and standard food… I love breakfast and enjoyed my pancakes however because the wait was so crazy and it’s kind of a dump I’d look for another place next time. If you are at VA beach for a long time and not just the weekend I would say maybe give this place another try…
