This is by far one of the best barbershop in Va and one of the best in the country, and this is coming from a person who travels a lot, my barber is a guy name travell and he is as good as it gets… from my observation the rest of the barbers are also highly skilled…

I write this review after two horrible experiences at this barber shop. While it does fit the bill of the quintessential«barbershop» from the movie(boisterous conversation, Playstations set up at the TV’s, etc) the barber(s) present during these experiences seemed unprofessional and lacked skill(unless they can only cut one style of hair). I have received a cut here, as well as accompanied an associate for their haircut on a separate occasion(about two years after my visit). I am Caucasian and he is Puerto Rican, both in our twenties. On each visit, we both felt very unwelcomed, the barber used much more force with the clippers than was necessary(to the point of swollen skin) and receiving a fade haircut was impossible even after advising the barber of the discrepancies.(My associate asked for a short fade with a 1 on the sides and 4 on top, and was left with at least a 4 all over, with just a line-up over the ears and a taper in the very back). I saw a Better Business Bureau placard inside the store, but could not find the business anywhere on the BBB. I’d stay away.

If you’ve seen the movie«Barbershop» with IceCube, you know that barbershops have an established culture of community, conversation and fun. As a woman with dreadlocks I’ve never cut, I really never had occasion to check out a barbershop, but I decided to accompany a friend and see if the movie was an accurate depiction. Appletrees is your neighborhood barbershop/men’s club. This is the place that men sneak away to, chat with their friends, get a fresh edge up and brag about their new toys. Watching my friend go in for his weekly refresher, I felt privy to the secret of male relationships: they like to talk just as much as women. Appletrees has the perfect set up for this male gossip/bonding: Multiple televisions set up at each station, friendly barbers who know all their clientele and their families personally, and a whole cast of unique neighborhood characters to keep you laughing. It’s like the Cheers of barbershops: everybody knows your name and you can sit for hours just talking to the customers. A survey of the customers revealed positive reviews for the haircuts, but even better reviews for the atmosphere. So if you’re looking for a place to get a quick edge up and chill for hours, Appletrees just might be your place.
