Went with husband for my birthday. Hostess was extremely cold. She just asked how many, no greeting, no smile, nothing. Waitress was really polite and extremely helpful. We ordered and our wine came out. Good news is that it is a FULL glass of wine, so totally worth it. Then our food came out. Oh goodness. Where do I start? Meat quality was horrible. It was hard to cut, hard to eat, just not good. I had gotten steak with mushrooms and ribs, the mushrooms were really good, but the ribs were tough and cold. The side dishes were also lukewarm. I will not be returning. I’m upset that this place has been open for so long, so I expected a better experience, and the only positive was wine and mushrooms.

I’ve been coming here for 10 years and I have to say it has gone down hill. I always order the chicken sandwich and TWICE– in one year– they have served me RAW chicken. And what really makes me angry is they have a very«Oh, is that all?» attitude about it. BOTH times, the waitress and manager just didn’t do anything about it. I’ve read other reviews and they’ve been serving a lot of raw chicken these days. Welp, I’m just going to have to take a break from this place now. Get it together guys, train your cooks.

Overpriced and low quality meat. We ordered the Tri tip steak for 2, and the server came out and started slicing it, then said the knife wasn’t sharp enough. Came back out a few minutes later and said she couldn’t believe the chef put it on a cold plate(I guess it’s supposed to be hot to cook it to perfection or whatever) So she went and got another plate that was hot, but by this time it had been a while so the steak ended up being overcooked. But either way it was a super low grade cut of steak. I’d say lower than select more like dog grade it was just terrible. I can’t believe how packed this place was and it was all too expensive for what it was I didn’t even eat it.

I was so excited to finally eat here as my brother and his wife have loved this place for years. Unfortunately it was super yucky. The steak was disgusting. It was undercooked and not seasoned. We asked for med rare and it was bloody, frozen and completely unseasoned. The fries were also cold. The salad was alright and the potato skins were good. This is the only reason I would give them 2 stars.

Was not happy at all!!! Waitress was slow, food wasn’t prepared. They brought out raw meat for my 4yr old daughter. My husbands steak was over cooked, ribs were cold. We will NEVER return!!!

I don’t know why we don’t come here more often. The service is excellent. The food is pretty good. The crowd is so nice and friendly. It’s always best and clean. We leave with a big smile. I won’t take so long in visiting next time.

Not the first time, definitely the last. Fatty, tasteless steaks! Brought 2 friends and neither of them thought the food was that good.

Steer’n Stien is a High Desert 4.5, but a 3 anywhere else. Why the difference? The HD, as the locals shorten it down to, is basically the culinary midwest of California. What I mean by that is most of the middle price range sit down establishments are big chains in this area(I hate chains). Unless you are looking for Mexican food or Country food, its going to be hard to find a quality eatery in this area.(There is some OK sushi.) So for the HD, Steer N’ Stein shines. The steaks are nearly always over done, so if you want medium rare, order rare, if you want medium, don’t butterfly it. Basically the hot plate the steaks are set on after cooking seem to cook them a bit too much for my preferences. The steaks do have very good flavor, the meat is not lost in the minimal seasoning, and the tenderness is on point. As for the other entries… Stick to steak here. The ribs are fine, just not memorable, and unless you get it topped in mushrooms the chicken is a tad dry. The house italian is a good dressing, though the lettuce mixture is pretty much just one of those bags of presorted cut greens: Iceberg, romain, carrots and cabbage. Nothing special. Like the salad most of the other food tastes like farmer bros supply or sysco food supply with minimal modifications. I guess the best summary is… 15 years ago you’d walk in and say, what more could you want? Times have changed, food expectations are higher than ever, and Steer ‘N Steins offerings have pretty much stayed the same for a very long time. An updated menu with more modern offerings would go a long way. That said what this place does is a hot steak, good service, and most of all great prices. It’s not«pack your bags we are moving in» good, but it’s not a big box chain, and it fills you up for less than you would expect to pay.

We stopped here for dinner on 12÷8÷15. It was a little busy and I was a little nervous because I was really hungry and didn’t want to wait. Service was excellent. We were served promptly and our meals were served hot. We had a problem with one of the fillets. We brought it to the servers attention, the manager saw we were discussing the meal and he immediately came to our table retuning shortly with a new plate. Such gracious service. The food was excellent all for a fair price. We will continue to visit this restaurant.

It really is good. Best zucchini you’ll find. Here’s the deal(and it’s worth losing a star). They have to stop using margarine as opposed to butter. I won’t order anything on the menu that is typically served with«butter». It’s gross. Sorry.

My husband and I came here for a date night and Oh My God, we had the best time, best waitress, best food, and best pricing. You get sooo much food for your buck and it was GREAT food. The wine and beer are insanely cheap, especially for a stein. The fried zucchini is to die for. Then the main entrée… We got the Plank steak for two. 20 oz of deliciousness. I cannot wait to come back. This is seriously one of my top restaurants here in the high desert.

This place is terrible. I had never been to a Steer ‘n’Stein and my husband raved about it. We read the reviews weren’t great, but gave it a go anyways. We walked in and the first hostess bluntly asked for our name and party number, and that was it. No estimated wait time, no have a seat pleasantries. Just turned her head like we had disappeared. We got seated by a second hostess who, again, didn’t even smile and was obviously a hormonal teen with some place else she’d rather be. Our table and booth was still wet so my husband asked for a dry towel. She rolled her eyes, threw us a couple of paper napkins and walked off. Our waitress was quite friendly and seemed to have an idea about customer service, but we never saw her outside of taking our orders. Good thing we didn’t need anything because no one else ever seemed to be available either. The food is mediocre. It all tastes canned and/or microwaved. Bland. We shared the hungry platter. Our steak was perfectly cooked(medium rare), but lacked flavor. The teriyaki chicken was super salty and the ribs were extra lean and charred. Only things that were decent were the baked potato and fried shrimp. We got the cookie skillet for dessert. It is huge and rich! However, the skillet is just used as a plate. The cookie is not fresh and I know it had never been in the oven because our waitress carried it out with her bare hand on the bare handle. It was thick like a soda baked cookie cake. Our waitress brought our check and said, «You just take this to the cashier when you’re ready.» My husband and I both heard this. We go to the front to pay our bill and the teenage hostess who sat us rolled her eyes and rudely snorted, «Your waitress is your cashier.» My husband told her what we heard and instead of politely informing us that we were mistaken and she’d be right back with our waitress, she kept spitting that no she couldn’t help us nor could the manager who walked off as this conversation was going. The restaurant was clean enough, but it was quite loud and we were both sweating with our jackets off. It reminded me more of a busy Sizzler than a steak house. To top it off, my stomach has been churning all night. My husband and I will not be going back.

Love this place if you get certain waitresses. The young dumb kids they’ve hired in recent years make me not want to go and chance my odds of getting one of them as a server. But the food is amazing. I wish they would have a better alcohol selection but it’s ok because it’s a family restaurant. Fried zucchini– must, steak– delicious, garlic toast– so tasty, you prob won’t have room for dessert.

Horrible the steak was way under cook chewy and fatty with gristle and stings of I don’t what in it. Would not recommend it to my worst enemy do not go. Oh and not to mention our waiter came back with out steaks that had been cooked rare when we ordered medium(they were still kicking) and I ordered coleslaw my gradpa ordered a baked potato and they had put it on my plate(not a big deal) but then the waitress grabbed it off of my plate with her bare hands and put it on his. Like I said run, do not walk, away from this place.(Not to mention 3 out of the 6 in our party where sick the next day with the runs)

This steak house had some pretty good food. My wife had the rib eye which was just a bit too rare, with a baked potatoe and salad. I had the specialty steak, which is a small, full flavored classic 7oz. sirloin steak with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. The food overall is your average good steak house type. The customer service was excellent, good decent prices, everything was clean, our food was done fast and I really much enjoyed the vibe of the place. Good place to grab a delicious steak!

The employees here are the best! I’ve been coming here since I was a little girl and didn’t even live in the high desert. I like to bring my kids here because not only is the food great, but it’s very kid friendly and they will allow you to share plates without complaining. My ten year old is too big for the kids plate but too small for his own adult plate. I get a larger amount for food for myself and share with him. It works great and he get adult food. No more chicken nuggets for him. The have a meeting room that is great to use during the lunch hour for large groups and actually have meetings. I’ve used it before and it’s great to have lunch meetings. It gets busy here but they get through crowds fast without too bad of a wait. Everyone who I know loves this place and I’ve never heard anyone complain about it. They have great meat and drinks.
