My coworkers recommend me this delicious place. There tri trip is very well cooked and tastes incredible. My new favorite bbq restaurant. Will be coming here more often for lunch.

I was waiting on my smog when the aroma of the barbecue chicken brought me into this restaurant. It is an old home style taste that I can never get enough of. You order your food first, and then have a seat. Today I ordered the tri-tip salad which was a lighter fare. It came with garlic bread. The meat was tender and smoky. You could tell that this might have been on the grill for a substantial amount of time and wasn’t boiled. It was nicely seasoned and needed nothing else but barbecue sauce. The only reason why I didn’t reach for the homemade bottles of barbecue sauce was that I didn’t want to mix it with my ranch dressing. They have TVs in the dining area. I was able to watch the game while I enjoyed my salad. Overall, I was very impressed with the service that I had today I most definitely will be back and have made them one of my favorite spots here in Ventura.

Horrible wait time but great Mac n cheese. I heard good things about this place and never got a chance to stop by. I’m usually a «Just BBQ» type of guy but decided to try this bodacious place one time. This will be my last visit. The food was decent but the worst thing was the wait. When your competitions wait time is less than 10 minutes there’s no excuse to wait over 30 minutes for you food. Overall the place is nice but I couldn’t enjoy my food knowing that I waited over 30 minutes for a trip tip plate. If you want to enjoy yourself a good and quick meal go to just BBQ or Da Hickory house which is only a few minutes away. Happy 2016 !

This is my favorite barbecue restaurant in the Ventura and Oxnard area. It’s a little hard to find but well worth the trip off the beaten path, though it’s not that far off the 101. The ribs and sausage have been tasty and my favorite, though the chicken and tri tip are very good too.

My husband and I love this place but unfortunately last time we were there we got food poisoning from the sweet potato casserole, and yes we’re positive that it was from that because that is the only thing we shared that entire day and I didn’t even eat anything else that day. Usually the food is good here but this experience has scarred us and we won’t be coming back.

I’ve ordered food from this establishment many times due to it being located close to a work site I have there. I have always found the food to be good, the service to be good, hand I generally make call in orders which the very good about timing or giving me the correct time. The only detractor for me is the fact that everything is done with sauces and not rubs. I’m not going to tell them how to run their business, because they obviously run it very well. Not a negative just something that I don’t find great.

Very satisfied! This is my new favorite spot for bbq! The tritip was tender, chicken was moist & fell off the bone, chili beans were amazing(taste like my dads chili beans), sausage was super good, garlic bread was yummy, mac n cheese was on point! Environment was casual, the location is in a super random spot in between industrial buildings. Such a gem! We will be back asap!

Just had a terrific lunch. The tri tip was awesome! Tender and beefy and not overpowering on the seasoning. The back ribs were meaty and great with their BBQ sauce. Chili beans are probably the best at any restaurant I know while the cole slaw is very good. Their bread and side salads are acceptable but a little boring. Special shout out to the staff, especially Juan, who always make you feel welcome even if you haven’t been there in a while. The is definitely the best BBQ in Ventura County!

I placed a to go order with Gregory that included 1 bbq chicken sandwich which includes a side(I got macaroni and cheese), 1 tri tip sandwich(my husband got macaroni salad), and I ordered a half rack of pork ribs(quantity 6) for my son. We picked up the order and went back to our hotel. The food looked and smelled wonderful just like my friend suggested! Upon going through my order we found out we were missing the half rack of ribs and we got no receipt. I called and spoke to a guy named Justin, told him the situation and he read my order back to me over the phone and my order did have ribs on their receipt! Justin told me he could take money off our card or return to pick up the ribs and he’d compensate us as well. I told him we’d return because that was my sons dinner. When my husband returned to Marshall’s, Gregory apparently felt the need to disagree and argue with my husband! After minutes of a disagreement and Gregory being completely RUDE and UNETHICAL he gave my husband the half rack of pork ribs without ANY compensation that Justin had originally STATED! I’m appalled about the entire situation! By the time my husband returned with the half rack of ribs our food was cold. We had to heat it all up, their food was good and flavorful but I would never return or recommend them to anyone because they do not hold to their word especially when the customer is RIGHT!

We have been overseas for 5 years. My Hunny said let’s try this place Friday night since it was recommended to him so highly. Well, we tried it and liked it so much that we went back on Saturday as well. We would go today but they’re closed on Sundays. The service is great, the staff is phenomenal, the food is wonderful.

I have lived in Ventura for a year and never even knew this place existed until recently. The restaurant is small and on the weekday evening fairly full so I got my order to go. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich combo which comes with one side and a drink. I couldn’t decide on one side so I ordered both the mac n cheese and sweet potato casserole. When I went to fill up my beverage I noticed two BBQ sauce pumps, but there was a sign saying if you ordered take-out the BBQ sauce would already be included in your order. I received my food in a timely manner from friendly and enthusiastic staff and set off for home. When I got home the first thing I realized is that I hadn’t gotten my mac n cheese! I don’t live close by so I called the restaurant and they looked up my receipt and said they were very sorry, but I hadn’t been charged for it. Most people only order one side with their combo so they probably just entered the first one I said and went from there. I was disappointed because mac n cheese is my favorite food, but I was on to the sweet potato casserole. Too bad that was terrible :/It literally tasted like plain, mashed sweet potato. I didn’t taste any cinnamon or brown sugar at all and that’s what I’m used to with a sweet potato casserole. I ate a few bites and then stopped. If I had liked it, the bonus would have been that it was very large serving! Now the sandwich. I opened the take-out box and was surprised to find the components of the sandwich not yet assembled. At first I wasn’t loving the idea that I had to put it together first, but then I realized this is a good thing because with the meat, bread, and sauce separate, the sandwich wouldn’t end up soggy on my way home. The pulled pork was great, huge helping and very flavorful. The bun was a typical bun, no biggie. My main disappointment was that the BBQ sauce that was included was such a small container that it barely covered the meat. I could hardly taste it so I only ate about half the sandwich. If I were to try again I would stock up on BBQ sauce to take home with me to make sure there was enough!

Good BBQ made on a smoker in the parking lot. Great, clean honest BBQ. Have driven by on 101 for years and finally stopped. Chicken is delicious and ribs looked yummy!

I would need to try this place one more time and base my review on the two visits because for the first time I tried Marshall’s it was for a company party. Shortly after the party that night I started feeling sick and I think it’s from the chicken. What reassured me I wasn’t crazy was the fact that a couple of my co-workers also started feeling nauseous from the chicken. So this makes me hesitant in eating here again. We’ll see… I think the sides are pretty tasty. After all you can’t really go wrong with Mac and Cheese and corn bread with beans.

Just Yum! The tri-tip sandwich on French bread is by far my favorite meal to order when I come here, you have a choice of a side and they give you a healthy portion, between the sandwich and the side of your choice you will leave more than satisfied. This place is hopping at noontime on weekdays but they always manage the meals served in a timely fashion.

Great average BBQ. Staff is friendly and service is quick. The spicy sausage link was great but no smoke ring. The beef ribs had smoke ring but not very much meat. Probably the best tasting item I tried. The tri-tip was bland and overdone and tasted a bit like pot roast. The two sauces they have available were also good. Not out of this world but good.

Santa Maria BBQ This is not your lovingly rubbed/marinated, low and slow, smoked BBQ. This is Santa Maria BBQ, where apparently they just throw it on the grill and cook it with oak. Works great with tri-tip, but not so great with ribs. Ordered rib dinner for $ 15, comes with two sides, I got slaw and Mac and cheese. As you can see from the picture, my initial thought was that these were the smallest ever! But, after flipping them over, I saw that they were baby backs, and very meaty ones at that. Now, why wouldn’t you try to give me a good first impression? Ribs were sliced and void of any seasonings or sauce. The sauces were on another counter. Good sauce, boring ribs. The slaw was watery and lacked any flavor besides the cabbage. The Mac and cheese tasted like a box of Velveeta had been dumped on it — I couldn’t stomach it. Finally, the best thing on the plate, the bread. Sorry, after living and eating Southern BBQ, I really can’t do Santa Maria.
