Dickey’s Barbecue Pit

I would give the overall food rating at a 4 and the service at the cash register a 4 as well but sometimes the food preparer isn’t so kind. If you don’t know exactly what you want they seem frustrated. I have been here several times since they opened and they always had a promotion so that you earned points when dining there. Last week I ate here and was informed they now have a new cash register system and unfortunately everyone lost all their points. Let me say this, in today’s world of no middle class and no money to spend outside of bills it’s a real treat to go out to dinner. I have been banking my points to use them to afford to be here and POOF, all gone just when I needed them most. No offer of anything to replace them and no good will gesture from Dickeys to give back to their loyal customers. If you knew this happened you should have been fair across the board and everyone should have been compensated. Even if it was just a free drink or a half price meal. People really do take accumulating things like they will actually be there when they wish to use them. Not a good move on this restaurants part.

Dickies is now another favorite bbq spot of mine. It’s my 1^st time here & I had a good experience. Its located in the Vons shopping center, right next to Dippin Dots. You go in, order w/​the 1^st person, tell the 2^nd person your side order & pay w/​the 3^rd person. They were quick to take & make my order. You can def dine in or take your food to go. I’ve done both w/​no problem.

So far I’ve tried the Smokehouse Salad. It was really good. Comes with lettuce, topped w/​tender beef brisket, cheese & fried onions (kinda like skinny onion rings) w/​creamy ranch dressing on the side. I ended up dipping my brisket into the spicy sauce, which made it oh so good. So I just ended up using the spicy sauce here & there instead of the ranch.
I ordered the Rib Platter To-​Go for my son. It comes w/​a ½ rack of ribs (like 6) & your choice of 2 sides. The Mac & Cheese still tastes good when you take it home. The waffle fries however are much tastier while hot & fresh.
FYI:
–The bread roll is yummy & soft
–The Mac & Cheese kinda resembles KFC’s Mac & Cheese, but I don’t mind because I also like their Mac & Cheese lol.
–Try the Spicy BBQ sauce, it has a kick which makes it bomb
–They have TV’s
–Restaurant setting looks like an indoor picnic
*For dessert, help yourself to a soft serve vanilla ice cream cone :)

Third time trying here and getting told they didn’t have ribs, around time of opening. Food I have got was okay but pricey. NOT recommend nor wasting my time again…

I like day dream about the brisket. Pulled pork is so yummy too. Seen ads gonna try those tacos soon. I honestly just love getting half a lb of brisket and a side. Mmmm I’m coming here for lunch today. Is it lunch yet!

One of my favorite spots in town. A real b-​b-​q !!! I wasn’t expecting the quality to be what it is at this price. An amazing value. I’M SOLD!!! Your staff here is always so nice and the food is always on point! Don’t forget to get a FREE SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM CONE on your way out;) The only draw back is I can’t stop in for lunch more often. ZERO COMPLAINTS !!!

Oh yeah! Dickeys is sooo good! Chicken, beef, sandwiches beans, all so flavorful! Usually do a pick up order, went there last week with family out of town after we raved about the good food! Did NOT Disappoint!

Southern bbq places are hard to come by and this place is good! I ordered the Southern Salad. Topped with a mountain of brisket, cheese, and onion strings! And I’m not a big salad eater either but the onion strings where bomb.
I will say after reading other reviews I can confirm somethings straight away,
1. The brisket tastes like Wood Ranch
2. The bbq sauce tastes like Wood Ranch
3. The mac and cheese tastes like KFC
4. The soft serve ice cream tastes like Fosters
I don’t know where they shop but their stuff tastes a lot like other things around town. But still good and well made. The staff was small and lucky there wasn’t a rush. This place is worth trying if you’re around and want good southern bbq at decent prices.

This place is my absolute favorite BBQ joint in Ventura county if not SoCal for me. Service is the best and free ice cream doesn’t hurt. Military friendly as well.

I think this is the worst bbq I have ever had plus the worst service. This is the McDonalds of BBQ. Ribs and chicken dry, no flavor. I took an order to go and when I got home, no bbq sauce. What the heck.
I can’t believe this place is actually in business. I guess people don’t know what good bbq is. I gave Dickeys a chance 3 years ago and thought since they were still in business I must have picked a bad day. I’m so upset I wasted my money on these guys again.

My husband took me there to try and they didn’t have any beef brisket so I ordered a rib plate and they didn’t have any ribs. This was at little after 5:00pm dinner time, very disappointed. We decided to go somewhere else…

This is our first time here.
My mom and I got two pulled pork sandwiches, onion strings and Mac n cheese to go.
Upon opening the bag it didn’t look like much considering how much we had to pay but at least it wasn’t cold like others have stated.
The mac n cheese wasn’t amazing though, tasted just like KFCs to be honest.
Overall I give it 3 stars cause the meat and onion strings tasted just like it came from Wood Ranch bbq restaurant but at a cheaper price. Lol

This is really a 3 ½ star review.
First off, I love the taste of Dickeys meats and sides. Absolutely delicious sausage, beans, Mac and cheese, bread… Everything is delicious.
Unlike some other reviewers, we had no problem with cold food. The meat and sides were hot. And we went there in the middle of the afternoon.
However, their prices are just way too high. My son and I ate here, and for the portions of meat and sides you get, it’s way too expensive. A medium sized lunch for my son and I cost over $ 30.

Dickey’s is very good for quick bbq! I read most reviews and agree with a lot of what was said. It’s not the best BBQ out there, but for the convenience of it being ready when you order, it’s impressive! I have not had an experience getting cold food, so I can’t speak to that.
I live close by and we go probably once a month here. The guys who work there sometimes seem stoned, but also seem harmless. A little forgetful at times, but I’ve never seen them unfriendly. I think they tell you when you first walk in what they are out of so that you don’t get your heart set on something that’s not available. I think they mean well by doing that.
Overall, good food, good service, no complaints. A tip– make a rootbeer float with the free ice cream! Makes it worth the trip :-)

Wow my first time there… totally impressed with everything. Need to go back next time I am in Ventura and to think I live in Port Hueneme.

Best BBQ I found so far and I know good bbq I’m from TX a BBQ State. Staff was welcoming and food was great!

Tried this place for the first time tonight…
Not bad, not great.
Got the «Thursday Special» which was spicy cheddar sausage, pulled pork, 2 sides and a beverage. The sides I chose was the potato casserole which is basically mashed potatoes with shredded cheese and diced green onions on top, and the BBQ beans. Both were pretty good. Great flavor. Potatoes were room temp which brought them down a notch. The spicy cheddar sausage was tasty. Def had a kick to it. I would order that again. The pulled pork left something to be desired. Was cold and lacked flavor. Tuned it up with some bbq sauce and it was edible. The best part was the crushed ice… yeah I’m weird, and the complimentary soft serve ice cream cones.
Willing to give this place another shot.

I had an overall good experience here.
They were out of the spicy sausage so I ordered the polish sausage which was a good portion and was pretty tasty.
The meal came with a bread roll and two sides, the roll was a little dry and a little small. The Mac and cheese was delicious and my favorite part of the meal. The waffle fries was a generous portion however unseasoned.
I was a fan of the complimentary ice cream cone and that kids eat free on Sunday’s.

This place only is so misleading. I have friends who rave about this place. My experience with this place was a complete disappointment. But what made it worse I honestly can say the highlight of my dinner was the piece of buttered roll and the cold slaw.
I ordered the 3 meat plate ribs, brisket and a Wednesday sandwich. All the meat was cold, the mac n cheese was room temperature. I usually would have had a royal fit immediately but I was part of a group being treated to dinner.
Btw, one of my friends here just said she actually only comes here for the ice Lmao. This joint should take time to read these reviews and apply some changes.

I was giving this place a second chance, but it was another disappointment. I tried calling in my order to find out that they couldn’t answer the phone due to them helping customers. Ok, I can drive over… not a problem. I walk in & there is literally no one in the place & as I walk up to place my order, I’m greeted with «we’re out of spicy cheddar & polish sausage as he continued to clean… ok, thank you for the warm welcome young man.
I ordered my family pack with three sides & I was on my way to find out once I arrived home that there were no rolls or bbq sauce. Really? So, no I don’t recommend, nor will I be back.
