Friendly fast and delish. The French fries are cut from real potatoes and are so good. I was biking around the island and was craving fries and these totally hit the spot. The guy taking orders was so nice and made my experience easy, happy and excellent. I will be back.

They dont just have good malted and plain milkshakes — they have great burgers, chicken sandwhiches and fries. But those malted milk shakes are straight out of the 50’s &60’s! Yummmie!

Oh, man. Well, they cut a lot of corners. Intellectually I understand– they likely thought they could turn a profit quickly and avoid the most common problem for new businesses(nooo money because of high overhead wooing new customers) but not receiving fries with my burger(such is the norm) when I came because I really only wanted fries. Eeeh. Also my companion had a chicken strip basket– strip is very apt. The chicken pieces were as wide as a stick of gum. Geeze. The burger(fair burger) was tasty but does not contain Walla Walla’s. The fries were also pretty small and the Yakisoba as always– if you care about yourself at all stay away.

Not so much a fan. We stopped here in the middle of the afternoon to just pick up a little snack so we could make it until dinner. We ended up getting one of their fish & chips meals. Their fish is actually those little gross cutouts like you would see in a frozen kids meal. It was pretty gross, but the french fries were tolerable. Don’t think I’ll be back.

My parents live out on Vashon and I head out there quite a bit so they can see their grandson. I’ve been coming for years and years, but this was my first visit to Zoomies. I admit it, I’m a burger freak and have crazy high expectations for a perfect burger. I decided that I come out here I should try the burger from Zoomies. I shouldn’t have wasted the time. The meat is from a frozen patty, not seasoned well and cooked until it’s a grey puck. The bun is s typical sesame seed from the grocery store and the salad on it was uninspired. Totally forgettable burger. The fries on the other hand were outstanding! Skin on and cooked to perfection. I haven’t had fries that good in a long time.

«Why did I just do this to myself?!» …Was the thought going through my head after ordering and eating the Yakisoba. Even the guy at the register tried to steer my away from it. It was a greasy pile of overly sweet noodles and very large chunks of completely raw vegetables. Almost as if it was a salad, never touching the wok. The stomach turning moment was noticing the huge amount of oil pooling up on the bottom of my plate. I was hoping it was teriyaki sauce but it was nothing but a cheap oil. For a total of $ 9.07 I got a plate of ick and a delicious Coca-Cola. I’m not sure if the ratio of Coke had more syrup than usual, but it was an amazing treat from their fountain. They do charge something like $.35-.40 for credit cards transactions. Ya, it’s only change on the dollar but its ridic in this day and age for the restaurant industry. The guy at the counter was nice! Also the odd homemade sambal olec? was super oily and had a really narsty appearance to it. I just had to mix it in the Yakisoba real quick to disguise it. Man, I regretted this meal, other than that amazing Coke! A bit expensive for everything on the menu. Only 1 other person in the restaurant when I entered. Pretty sure he was feeling the same about the Chicken Teriyaki dish that he ordered. He didn’t look happy or like a local. Lower your prices and work on your quality a bit, and this place could be a goldmine in Vashon.

The main thing to consider is that Zoomie’s is the only fast food establishment in Vashon Center, something I discovered this past weekend on my first visit to Vashon/Maury Island(which is bigger than I expected, and definitely some beautiful country). Zoomie’s appears to have been a Dairy Queen in a previous incarnation and they do offer several ice cream dishes. But basically, Zoomie’s has a standard, but limited, burger joint menu. Yet, teriyaki and yakisoba are also available. My burger was meh with an overcharred flavor. The tartar sauce for the onion rings was devoid of any texture and oddly sweet. Would I come back here? Probably not.

Though Zoomie’s is an independent(not chain) business, the designers did their best to make it resemble a low-end chain restaraunt. The burgers are edible, but the teriyaki and spaghetti dishes tasted like high school cafeteria fare, and even though I ate that pile of slop there at the restaraunt, it came in five different plastic containers! Quite the carbon footprint for one mediocre meal. «ned»

Update 2: it’s for sale again, $ 150k. Guess the Burgers-Gyros-Bakery-Chinese-Italian-Thai menu wasn’t appealing. Go figure. Zoomie’s, you were once a DQ — be true to your roots! And fix the damn drive-thru. Update 1: the new ownership has brought on board the former manager of «Wok In Take Out», a defunct Chinese take out place. This has led Zoomie’s into an identity crisis, I’m afraid. In addition to the old burger joint menu, the front window currently advertises«homemade lasagna» and«Thai food». In my view, this schizoid lack of focus is not good, not good at all. I’m downgrading them a star. Ambiance: ‘80s tacky, uninspired. Cheap-looking. I know places like these operate on thin margins, but come on. A little investment — or imagination — here could take this from«nondescript joint» to «revered local hangout».

We stopped here yesterday because we were on Vashon and craving good french fries… it looked like the only place that might do it, though there were some cafes open at 3:30 or so. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries; with a soda, that came to a relatively steep $ 7.15. However, the burger was really good and the fries were excellent, some of the best I’d had in a long time. I wanted to try the onion rings but just didn’t have room. On the way out, my daughter got the smallest-size ice cream cone. The woman at the counter was super-generous, putting TWO big scoops on the cone… that was plenty of ice cream for $ 2. As Maria said, there are tons of teenagers here… four tables’ worth of them arrived when I was about half-done with the burger. They were well-behaved and quiet though, mostly, I suspect, because the fifty-something woman behind the counter would have told them off otherwise. LOL BTW, the restrooms are accessed outside the restaurant(like many gas stations of old) but they were super-clean. We’d been walking on the beach for many hours yesterday and I was really glad for a clean place to wash up before eating.

Ok, so Vashon Island wasn’t exactly Mayberry, but I do have a few rose colored memories of the place, some of which centered on the only fast food chain we ever had: Dairy Queen. Alas, like my youth, it’s a dust covered, attic dwelling memory and Zoomies now stands on a once favored hangout. I’m sure the kids now hang out at Zoomies and order burgers and fries and shakes and gossip the way that only small town kids can and could care less that Dairy Queen no longer exists. And truthfully, the food is better now. I’ll admit that. I still want my old DQ.
