Dropped by this establishment last night for some take out. Its a small place, with old tables and chairs, and refrigerators right in the dining area so you can grab your own drink. Décor is sparse with some nice Central American swag on the walls and a rack of Mexican cds for sale in one corner, all and all it feels like a family run place. The woman behind the counter, Sonja, was both matronly and youthful at the same time, and was kind enough to instruct me on the proper way of eating a pupusa. They had a special going on(12 for 15) and I ordered cheese, pork and bean & cheese pupusas. Had a Horchata while I waited… it was pretty bad as far as horchatas go,(tasted oddly burnt and had a lot of grit at the bottom of the cup) but it was wet so I drank it and read some Zora Hurston in rays of the sinking sun. The pupusas were larger than I anticipated, and so greasy that it escaped the foil in which they’d been ensconced and soaked the paper bag enough for me to see through it(perfect time for a Simpsons reference here). This was a sure sign that they would be delicious, and they were. Two with some of that pickled cabbage and the red sauce was a perfect meal for me. The cheese one was great and the pork was also quite good. I threw together a salad at home w/strawberries and pear slices so there could be a little bit of a healthy balance to this decidedly unhealthy meal. I still have some leftovers which I’m looking forward to enjoying for lunch tomorrow. Now that I know this place is here, I’m sure I’ll be going again.
