My House gyro plate was excellent, fresh, and tasty! The cheese cake was light fluffy and perfect! I will be back!

Used to be a great, locally owned restaurant, but since the owner got shot, the landlord RAISEDTHEPRICES to drive the old shop out and remodeled the space and gave it a new name. DON’T GOTHERE. There are plenty of other good greek places in the loop! There’s one by Little Shark down Delmar across from the Pagent.

I know it’s kind of grungy inside, but they make GREAT Gyros! These are HUGE and always made fresh when I order them for takeout. I once had a gyro in Greece and it was not nearly as good as these are. We also like their Greek Salads and feel this place offers an excellent value.

Lets be honest, is this a place for gourmets? Absolutely not. The pita tastes like it is from a store, the tzatziki is reminiscent of sour cream, and I don’t recommend the greek(shredded feta?) salad. However you can get a giant gyro, a can(still think this is weird) of soda and a bag of delicious spicy chips for like $ 6. You will be full and it is pretty delicious. The place is a hole in the wall where ex frat guys(who probably have never been to Greece) cook and deliver you food with disposable utensils, so don’t expect Wolfgang Puck, but you’ll leave satisfied if you are looking for a cheap, flavorful gyro.

Horrible experience today at Gyros in the Loop, which took over the spot our favorite Gyro House previously occupied. We had a Groupon and they refused to honor it, even though it was valid. They were totally rude and unapologetic for refusing to honor their own coupon. So we left and ended up having a wonderful lunch down the street at Gyro House on Delmar –still the best gyros in town. We tried to give Gyros in the Loop a chance and were sadly disappointed. They don’t deserve your business. Stick with Gryo House instead!

I had a Groupon for Gyros in the Loop, and with this busy week, I haven’t felt like cooking, so I stopped by! The shop is on Melville, right off of Delmar, in the loop. It’s a cute little place, with a bunch of tables and a TV. I didn’t feel like hanging around, so I ordered my food to go. I wanted to use up my entire Groupon, so I ordered the gyro, falafel sandwich, and baklava. After about 10 minutes, my food was ready. I had a bite of the baklava first. Dessert before dinner? Yep, I’m that kinda girl. The baklava was ice cold, which was sort of a turnoff. But the flavor was decent, albeit way too sweet for me. Next, I tried a bite of the gyro. The flavor of the meat was decent, but I’ve certainly had better gyros elsewhere. The pita bread was soft, but not as tasty as the pita bread at Pita+. One major issue I had with my gyro was the obscene amount of feta cheese that was piled on. I love cheese just as much as the next person, but wow — this was TOO much. There was also some sort of creamy sauce that tasted like mayo. Blech. It was overwhelming, and I ended up scraping 90% of it off. When you can barely taste the meat because of all of the creamy crap on top of it, you know that’s way too much. The falafel wasn’t much better. It was essentially four falafel balls on pita bread, with again — WAY too much feta and mayo-like sauce. The balls were so big, I couldn’t fit them into my mouth(TWSS), so I ended up ditching the pita and just munching them alone. The texture of the falafel was firm and not mushy; just how I like it. There was even a bit of a kick to them, which I enjoyed. But they paled in comparison to the falafel at Pita+. I think I’ll save my gyro eating for the two local Greek festivals we have here in STL. And I’ll most definitely save my falafel escapades for my trips to Pita+(gosh, it’s been SO long since I’ve visited — I need to return!) I have no reason to come back to Gyros in the Loop. Not worth it.

Very tiny place just a tiny bit off the main strip. It seemed like it was a college buddy who swore he could make you the best gyro’s you ever ate. So he starts cooking in his dorm room closet on his bunsen burner as you sit uncomfortably on his milk crate… trying to ignore the flies, the unwashed furniture around you and the fact that the gyro really isn’t that great but you want to be polite as you are sitting so close to his cooking area that he is looking at you with every flip of pita, as his hopeful eyes wait for approval of his basic cooking skills. A longer sentence you ask? Simply not possible. You can ask for a cup with your can or bottle of soda. They do not have ice.(!!! How do you??? Forget it.) I“m an ice person. *shrug* The gyro was Ok. Bottom line: There are SO many places to eat within sneezing distance that are better by far. Little or no effort was put into this restaurant. It’s a mini fridge, a tiny stove, and a cash register. — — — — — — — — — — — — — – Note … there is another Gyro place that has as similar name so is constantly being mistaken for each other.

The gyros are delicious. They slice the meat thin and load the pita up with everything. The prices are very reasonable, a gyro meal is 7.00 which comes with chips and a drink. The Lion gyro which comes with extra meat and feta is only .75 more. Prices are great and the food is awesome.

Definitely a hole in the wall — kinda dingy. The Mediterranean ChickenBurger($ 6) tasted pretty good, just really messy to eat. And the Spanakopita(~$ 4) was a pretty decent size, but tasted like the frozen ones from Costco.

This place was pretty decent before it closed and changed owners. You get a lot of food for the price. Kinda slow for having to cut off the meat from the skewer, should really only take max of two minutes.

Driving the Loop here and there, I kept seeing the sign for Gyro House hanging on the side of a building, facing the street. I had been looking for a good Gyro, so one day while searching for my daily lunch solution, I decided to stop. The sign is confusing as it hangs in front of a shop that is under construction, but I walked around the corner on the side street and there it was! I walked in and was greeted by a tall, beautiful, goddess of a woman, wearing rain boots, too. Hubba-hubba! ;) But I digress. I went for the special, which consisted of a Gyro, choice of bagged chips and a drink. Unfortunately, it didn’t include a date with the counter goddess, but I digress. I would have preferred the ubiquitous fries found at any other Gyro place, but the Goddess of Gyros made it all good, but I digress. I sat at one of the few tables, so space is a consideration in rush times but it will only make me sit closer to the Gyro Goddess, but I digress. GoG brought my order to the table and I commented about how she was not only beautiful but brought me food and asked her to marry me. She laughed and asked if I needed anything else. My mind raced with the possibilities, but I digress. My first question to myself was how to pick up the overloaded pita, sitting flat on a plate, looking like a Mount Olympus of meat, onions and sauce. There was no way and that was a bit disappointing. Their generosity in fillings was also their biggest downfall. I picked up my fork and knife and started cutting the ingredients into bite-sized pieces. Cutting a pita, under the pile of meat and slippery sauce is not an easy task and I thought that I should call Gyroina to come back and cut my food for me but after asking her to marry me, I felt I might be pushing my luck. I did manage to cut it all up with a minimal amount lost to the table. I was very pleased with the meal in itself although I usually like my Gyro meat a little spicier… like the Gyro Wench o’ Love… but I digress. I can’t say it’s my favorite place for Gyros but I will be back… and not just to see my saucy girlfriend, although that is a big part of it, but I undress… er, digress.

I grabbed a gyro and spanokopita at this place before heading over to Halo to wait for a show. The gyro was large, stuffed with meat and tzatziki… maybe over-stuffed as the tzatziki spewed out after each bite. Not very much lettuce, tomato onion though. The meat was flavorful, but not very hot. Granted… I did walk a couple of blocks before I unwrapped it and ate. Overall, it was average. I think about on the same level as Gyro House right across from the Pageant. Prices are very reasonable.

Maybe it is because I am fresh back from a trip to the middle east, but I didn’t find the Gyros to be so awesome at this place. The meat was a little greasy and had no real character. On the other hand, the food here was nice and cheap(especially with my Groupon), and the portions were large. Place was deserted and the food came quickly. Wasn’t blown away, but not disappointed either. Bottom Line: Pretty much what I expected for $ 5 in the loop.

Seriously the best Gyros in St. Louis! The tzatziki and hummus are amazing. The falafel is flavorful and delish. The salad is the best in town. The new mediterranean chicken burger is delish! I love the combos and the prices. Great food for an unbelievable price. Run don’t walk to this place!
