I came here on a double date with my best friend and our boy friends. We came here on a Saturday nights and it wasn’t too busy. The restaurant is really small and doesn’t seat too many people. I ordered a California roll and added salmon skin to it. I also ordered a beef ramen. The salmon skin California roll was delicious. The salmon was good even though I do wish it was a tad bit crispier. Still good though. The pieces were huge and so good. My beef ramen was not good. I think they just added ramen to their menus. I feel like I could’ve made better ramen that that. Next time I’ll just stick to sushi. They have an extensive roll menu so I hope I can try different ones next time. Their service here was not that great. It took so long to get our food and they all came out separately in 15 minute intervals. It’s rude to eat ahead so we all had to wait for all the dishes to come out before we started eating. They did try to make up for it with a free salmon skin roll, but still. Maybe it was just a bad night for them. Overall, this restaurant is so-so. I’ll come here if I’m in the area and craving sushi but nothing id make the effort to go to.

This is my family’s go-to restaurant! We’ve been coming here since it opened and it’s literally 3 minutes away from my house. The staff is great. They care for their costumers and really take pride in their work. My favorite is Teryaki Chicken plate/Benton box. I guess I’m one of the few people that tried something new in their new menu. I got the Chicken Ramen. It is amazing. Its spicy and I love it! But worth the try! I’m sad they took the fried tempera green tea ice cream out the menu): Overall, try this place out!

The scowling waiter should have been the only clue we needed to not eat here. Signs advertising spicy garlic edamame taped to the wall was a second clue. But we thought«maybe this is a new dish they’re really excited about — stop being judgemental.» We ordered 3 rolls, the garlic edamame and miso soup. The soup was fine. The tuna roll was fine(thought the tuna was a weird color), the other 2 rolls were ok too. The spices on the garlic edamame were burned and tasted gross. Won’t make that mistake again. Within 15 minutes of leaving, my stomach started to hurt. Another 15 minutes and I was looking for the nearest bathroom. By now I’m in Fremont wondering if I’ll make it home without an incident during the beginnings of rush hour traffic. We hop in the car and get home safely, though my stomach was cramping the whole time. So I curled into a little ball and went to sleep. It’s now 2 hours since I got home. My tummy still hurts, and is super gurgley. At least I don’t feel like I’m in imminent danger of being sick right now. Nope. Definitely not eating there again.

This has always been my favorite sushi place since I was in high school. But after trying different sushi places, I realized that Maneki doesn’t have alot of sushi rolls that I like except for their Crunch California Roll, Lion King, Lava, and Bay Rolls.(Lava and Bay Rolls are basically the same except one has scallops and one has tuna and salmon) They seriously need to have a Happy Hour because their rolls are expensive. Other than that, this place is a go-to if I need to go somewhere close to home.

DONOT ever come to this horrible restaurant!!! As you can see, I barely write reviews. This is only my second one. I had a horrible experience and was going to let it slide because I didn’t want to bother writing a review but after the sneaky thief charged more on my account than I authorized, I definitely had to take the time to warn customers about this shit hole of a place. I would give this place negative stars if it was possible! January 4th2016 It was my boyfriend’s birthday and we decided to check out this sushi spot since it was close to the house. Although there were some mixed reviews about this place, we still decided to give it a try. It was our first time here and I will NEVER go back again!!! We went to dinner around 8ish and it was fairly packed. There was only ONE waiter which was this tall Asian boy. He took forever to come take our order and he did NOTEVEN check on us ONCE when we were dining there except when it was time to get the bill. Why the hell would you only have ONE waiter take on a busy night by himself? You should always have two waiters just incase regardless if it may or may not be a busy night. My boyfriend and I ordered 3 rolls and it was soooo poorly made that the sushi kept falling apart. It would crumble into a bunch of pieces in mid air before it even came close to our mouths and YES we definitely know how to use chopsticks. Each piece we ate fell apart. Even the little pieces I tried to pick up fell apart. Wtf? Who in the world would enjoy eating the sushi when you can’t taste the whole flavor of the sushi in your mouth at once because it kept falling apart? I’m pretty sure it’s because they didn’t even use real sushi rice which would have been a bit more sticky. They are trying to skimp out by using regular rice so it’s cheaper for them instead of using the appropriate sushi rice. To the tall Asian boy waiter: Tipping is NOT mandatory. Customers choose to tip how they please. I am not obligated to give you anything. You should be so damn lucky I even tipped you at all after my shitty experience. My bill was $ 60.61 and I was so pissed and irritated that I didn’t even want to tip at all and couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there but my boyfriend said give him a little tip. I decided to be nice and tip him $ 2 instead of nothing which would come out to be $ 62.61. This thief had the audacity to charge $ 68.61. An extra $ 6 tip that he thought he truly deserved because he didn’t like his $ 2 tip? Hell no! You tried to pull a fast one on me and thought I wouldn’t have noticed but I did. You’re shady as hell and that’s fu*ked up shit. People be warned… Not only does the service and food truly suck ass but there are shady thieves who will try to take advantage of those who don’t check their credit cards by charging more than they are authorized to do so. That is NOT how you run a legit business. With the quality of their sushi, it shouldn’t even cost half its prices. They should charge a few bucks like Luckys, Safeway or 711 because their quality is the same if not worst. I would never go back and no one should!

Decent food and decent prices. I come here mostly because it is the closest sushi to my house. I used to come here because the food was cheap, but the prices have been steadily rising over the past three years. The bento box combos are still a good deal. The food tastes much better in the restaurant than it does when taken to go. You can’t beat their sake happy hour though!

It’s been a long time since coming but the value and product quality is definitely different The food was very average and underwhelming. Cherry Blossom roll tasted funky, tuna just tasted like fridge burn or rather freezer burnt defrosted protein. The rice in the roll didn’t have any rice vinegar flavoring — it’s as if only cooled off plain white rice was used for wrapping. Ordered from the dinner menu bento box: beef teriyaki with Cali roll, three pcs deep fried gyoza and rice. It came with soup and salad but overall protein portion was small considering it was a dinner order. Cali roll had that flavorless sushi rice and the gyoza was oily and greasy. Guess there was a reason why I haven’t been back. Just pass and head into Popeyes instead

Regrettably, one of the most underwhelming meals I’ve had in a while… Maneki turned out to be a poor choice for lunch. Friend and I went there during the week. The eatery is small and located inside the same shopping plaza as Seafood City. There weren’t too many patrons during the lunch hour and maybe that should have been a red flag. Their menu seems very ordinary for an «Americanized» Japanese restaurant. Nothing authentic jumped out. I ended up ordering a bento box with teriyaki beef and California roll. Friend ordered a caterpillar roll and a lion king. It seemed like the safest option as I had a feeling the sushi would not have been fresh at Maneki. Bento box was standard and filling enough. I thought they doused the beef with too much teriyaki sauce though. The rolls were just so-so. I usually don’t order rolls with sauces and stay away from mayo at all costs, but friend encouraged me to try a piece of the lion king. I did not like it… way too much mayo and the salmon was overcooked. Our total tab was around $ 40 and in my opinion, not worth it. Although service was good, I wouldn’t go back for the food.

Great food but one major problem. All tables are 4 people tables. Half to a third of the seats are always empty. Need to swap tables to 2 sweaters and be able to split to improve serving speed!

I ordered a takeout order of Poki Salad, Tuna Double, Shrimp Tempura and and when I got home much to my surprise the Poki Salad looked like someone else’s leftover. The portion was very very small for the $ 10.50 they charged and it took 45 minutes to receive it. Looking at other pictures on Unilocal show that the item is much larger then what was provided in the to go container. I am a regular customer, but they are charging steep prices for such small portions!!! I have ordered this item many times before and have not been dissapointed. It looks like they are gouging customers with high prices for little food.

Not only are the prices higher than ever now, Edamame is no longer served as a comp after you order. I agree with other reviewers who have said the Bento Lunch boxes are really very good, and that most of the servers are not pleasant. No smiling and they don’t check up on you. I don’t like having to flag someone down just to get more water or tea. This is a tiny restaurant, so there is really no reason for poor service.

Being a local, I’ve always loved enjoying the rolls and also a nice hot bowl of the chicken katsu donburi! The place is a bit small, so just come before the dinner rush :) my cousins and I came at a perfect time around 6 and got seated right away.

There are days when I have«me» moments, and this is where I’d go to enjoy their great«Firecracker» sushi roll. I’m also a fan of their Dinner Bentos. I’d sit at a quiet corner and do my jlogging while I wait for my food. My favorite spot is right in front of the sushi chefs. It’s enjoyable to watch them do their work. Fresh tuna and salmon! I will always go back.

The food is pretty good but the service here is terrible. Waitresses are inattentive and seem drained. Perhaps they should hire another waitress? I came in on a Saturday night and it wasn’t too busy. There were still open tables. I came in and was seated with no menus and no plates. I kept trying to get the servers attention but she didn’t seem like she was paying attention to the tables. A different server actually had to come help us because ours was not responding to us. I’m generally pretty understanding of how hard it is to work in food service but it was honestly so annoying to have to keep calling our waitress back on small mistakes and holding my hand up, waiting for a response. The food was pretty good though. I got a bento box and it was super filling. I have had rolls here too and they’re good as well. Overall, food is about four stars but the service was disappointing.

Location is nice and convenient, food is average, don’t expect much. The servers hardly came to our table, water was never refilled. Plates were dirty and still had crusted rice and crumbs on them. The food seemed… Watery? Fish didn’t seem very fresh. Tempura wasn’t crispy, it was drenched in oil. The chicken teriyaki was good. Miso soup was good. Overall, I think this place is over priced(especially for the rolls) for the quality of food they are serving. I also really don’t like having to call or wave down servers all the time. It’d be nice if they could check in at least once to see if we need anything.

I enjoy Maneki for the following reasons: 1. It’s central location 2. Fresh ingredients 3. Open all day, never closed for lunch as other Japanese restaurants are 4. Great prices — 2 thumbs up for lunch specials! We’ve come here on a few different occasions, primarily because we were craving Japanese food for lunch but couldn’t eat until the early afternoon. «Early afternoon» does not exist in the Japanese restaurant vocabulary. By 2 pm, all restaurants are either closed or closing down to prepare for dinner. Maneki’s is open all day long, meaning you can have fresh, good tasting Japanese food no matter what time of day. We’ve ordered the following on separate occasions: — Lunch special udon — 4⁄5 — Lion King roll — 5⁄5 — You can never really go wrong with the Lion King roll — Sashimi special — 5⁄5 — Everything was fresh and entirely tasty — Crunch Philly — 5⁄5 — Chirashi bowl — 5⁄5 We ordered a number of other rolls and also a lunch combo C1 to go. Although I do not remember which exact rolls we ordered, rest assured everything was fresh, tasty, and SO well worth the money! The lunch combo we took home was enough to feed 3 people, it was hard to believe it was only $ 11. If you are looking for a solid Japanese restaurant with plenty of selection and good prices, Maneki is the place to go!

Great prices and yummy sushi rolls. I definitely prefer this place over other sushi places in the area. Cozy ambiance, and really nice servers. Our server was Erinn– she was great. I’ve been here countless times and the food always comes fairly quickly. In reference to the other review about adding the tip in the bill, a lot of restaurants add gratuity if you hit a certain number of people– it wouldn’t make sense to serve a bunch of people and have no one tip. I’ve eaten at plenty of restaurants in big groups with the tip included in the check, so I completely understand. This time we ordered the lion king roll and the red rock canyon roll; both were delicious. For dessert, we ordered the mochi icecream in mango and strawberry. Great presentation!

This is my family’s go to Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood. Whenever we have the craving for Japanese we’ll grab the take out menu and order a variety of items to share — they’re usually very quick and have our order ready in 20ish minutes. My dad is a fan of the sashimi, mom is a fan of the combination dinner bentos, and my sister and I love their sushi rolls Our top Go To items are: Sashimi A Dinner Combination C-3 Philadelphia Roll Dragon Roll Rainbow Roll BMW Roll and I recently just tried the Never Ending Roll which is my new favorite! Their food is always consistent and I know that whenever my family has a craving for Japanese we can count on Maneki to deliver.

One of the few sushi places in the area that aren’t closed between lunch and dinner. I always wondered how sushi restaurants come up with some of the names for their rolls… Anyways, we ordered beef teriyaki and tempura, BMW, Wow, and double hamachi. Everything was pretty decent. We liked how the sauces didn’t overpower the fish. BMW was OK. The wow roll was interesting and there was actually lobster taste to it. On the other hand, the double hamachi roll didn’t wow us since the fish wasn’t too fresh. Beef teriyaki was a bit dry/rough for my liking, but I did enjoy their tempura — it had the right amount of panko batter! Complimentary edamame and miso soup! They state on every page of their menu that there’s NOMSG but of course we tasted a hint of it, although it wasn’t as strong compared to other places we’ve been to. Service was average, they didn’t really do much except bring us our food. Overall, it’s A-OK so unfortunately we probably won’t be returning anytime soon.
