I lived in Portland for 18 years before moving to LA, and have had about 6 haircuts at different Bishops across the city. This one in Tualatin is by far the best, and the last haircut I had by Abiel(sp? sorry!) completely knocked my socks off. No wait time, they’re always ready. The music is pretty good. Free beer. And the vibe is charming. I have enormously thick, curly hair, which is always terrifying to have cut. She was calm, supportive, and truly gifted with the scissors. Like a ninja! No joke! It felt wonderful and relaxing. I’ve been to a handful of salons in Portland and Los Angeles, and have always left feeling bitter about the price and the cut, but Bishops has always made me feel fantastic. Go here for any hair style.

I come here probably once a year for a new hair color, and I always go to Jen. She is a wonderful smart experienced hairdresser, and I’ve been going to her for 5 years now! I’m always really satisfied with what she does with my hair. Most recently I got my light blonde hair dyed a light ash brown and it looks so awesome. I love her insight and her advice for what kind of shampoo to use(purple or blue) and how often. The prices for coloring here are definitely worth it, and I recommend Jen if you’re getting your hair dyed.

The negative reviews here are quite funny. If you want a fancy salon style cut… go to a big name salon and pay the price. Don’t come to Bishops looking for a $ 100 hair cut for the price of $ 26. «Champagne taste on a beer budget.» Personally I’m a fan of Bishops’ style and their culture. The cuts aren’t award winning, but hell I’m not a model and my wife thinks I look good. So 4 stars it is.

I drove by this location since it’s close to where I live. BIGMISTAKE! I normally go to the one in the Pearl District. There was no life from the 2 stylists that helped us at this location and lack of customer service. There were a total of 4 stylists that really didn’t want to be there it seemed like. I will have to continue to go to the Pearl to get the service I am looking for.

It really depends on who cut your hair. I have one quite good experience and another really bad experience. I don’t remember the names but if you decide to go there, make sure to pick your barber/stylist

It’s just hair, at least it grows back right? I did not get what I asked for. I asked to leave 2−3″ so I could wear a «messy look». Instead my hair is less then an inch and I look like I am in the Marines. Not that there is anything wrong with Marine haircuts, I’m just not in the Marines. When my wife saw my hair her response was,“Ouch, so you have any hats you wanna take on our trip?“ Nice people, not bad wait, awful haircut.

I came here today for the first time as I was hesitating before due to the reviews given by others. Went there during lunch and waited about 10min tops until it was my turn. Chelsea, my hairdresser, did an excellent job and I am very happy with the result. Will definitely come back.

Great place. Sometimes during prime time hours there may be a little wait but they serve you beer to make the wait a pleasant one. Really good concept here and the ladies do a great job and really take their time. Be sure to reward them with a nice tip for a job well done and the free beer! They do a great job. Great place right next to Bridgeport.

I don’t know what these other people are talking about this place is GREAT! Especially Chelsea!!! I have a ton of thick hair and some weird cowlicks in places that make cutting my hair into the style i like a little tricky and tedious. SHEDIDAMAZING!!! She took her time and stopped and checked with me several times to make sure everything was going well. When she did finish I even asked her to go back through for this one area and she happily fixed it for me!!! PLUS she is big on cars and sports so the conversation is great too!!! THANXCHELSEAILLBEBACKCAUSEOFYOU!!!

I don’t like writing negative reviews but I’m very disappointed & want to save others from the same result. I’ve gone to bishops many times for haircut & always had a pleasant experience so I thought I’d try them for color too. Not a good idea. I’ve died my hair black for a while & I completely understand the process it takes to lift the color & u can’t get it done in one session, yes. However, what I asked for was to try & get back to my natural color which is a COOL light brown with natural blonde highlights throughout. I SPECIFICALLYSAID I DONOTWANTRED/ORANGE HUES. Well now I have light auburn roots with brassy hair that has patchy orange highlights, with leopard spots near my roots. Like I said, I know its a process, but my roots were grown out so they should’ve at least got that part colored correctly. idk what technique was used but the highlights definitely do not flow naturally… rather, they are spotty & are chunky. Unfortunately, I did not notice any of this until I went home to examine & look underneath my top layer. My fault for not taking a closer look while i was there. I guess I won’t be wearing my hair back anytime soon. Super embarrassed & because my hair is so processed, I have to wait a month to fix it :(VERY disappointed and now I gotta spend money to fix it again… somewhere else. On the plus side the staff was very friendly & personable. If I could make a recommendation, I would advise the manager of the store to style her hair before coming in to work. I should’ve trusted my gut when I saw the manager with a bad color job, hair thrown in a pony tail… in a scrunchie! As a manager of a salon, you’re hairstyle us definitely expected to stand out.

I really don’t like the idea of giving a one star rating or writing a negative review, but it I think it needs to be done, unfortunately. I used to go to Bishops on Hawthorne when I was younger and get my hair done and I always had a fairly good experience. Which is why, when I saw that there was a Bishops by my parent’s house where my husband and I are visiting, I insisted that my husband get his hair cut there. As a side note, I’m actually a cosmetologist and I usually cut his hair myself, but we’re on vacation visiting my family in the Portland area and I did not bring any of my tools! Anyway, My husband has relatively short hair: about an inch and a half on the sides and 2 ½ inches on top. Its more of a haircut you can style, its not a buzz cut or anything super simple. He definitely needed just a basic trim of a «quarter, maybe a half of an inch», which I heard him tell the stylist he wanted. The hair cut that he came back with(maybe 8 minutes later) was absolutely appalling. 1. Instead of using shears all over, she decided to clipper the sides and back of the head, apparently as if it were a race because there were at least 4(very obvious) holes in his haircut. 2. She quickly trimmed the top of his head, with shears, because it was uneven all over the place when I went through it later. 3. His hair was still long at his hairline! Like 2 ½″ long while the rest of his hair was a buzz cut, maybe ½″ long. How do you miss that? I had to cut it the minute we got home because it looked ridiculous! 4. There was absolutely no connection between his sides and top(parietal ridge, yes my husband does have one!) making his head look completely square. 5. The neckline was terrible. Square in the back is usually what he asks for, and not only did she not ask and give him rounded edges, but she shaved off an inch of his hair, like into the haircut. So now my husband has these massive shaved off areas in the back of his head where hair should definitely be! It looks ridiculous. 6. This has been implied, but his hair was short and looked buzzed all over. Nothing like it used to be or what he wanted. He did not ask for or want super short hair. 7. Lastly, he left absolutely covered in hair. I get it, I’m a stylist, and I know how hard it is to really get rid of hair. But seriously, brush off his neckline, face, and upper shoulders! My husband was not looking for a rushed military-looking haircut, and I was under the impression that Bishops(even as a barbershop) took better care of their customers than that. What he is left with now is terrible. We are here in town visiting family and friends and he has this embarrassing haircut to live with. It really is that bad, unfortunately, and will be in ALL of our family pictures from this week! Some of the stylists here definitely need to attend some more cutting classes and workshops. My husband should have never been allowed to leave looking the way he did! I’m sorry, but there is no excuse for this haircut from any licensed professional. Please brush up on your mens cuts, stylists!
