Wow what a pleasant surprise. On my ride to Reno I decided to stop in Truckee for a bit and a drink. I had the tomato soup and a bloody mary. One of the best bloody Mary’s I have had. Nice and spicy. The tomato soup was amazing and with the first taste I could tell it was freshly made from scratch. My bar tender Lindsey was amazing. She made several recommendations on food choices. She was very friendly and greeted me when I walked in. Her bloody Mary’s are by far one of the best I’ve had. I will definitely visit here again. If your in Truckee this is a must try place and ask for Lindsey.

The good: live music, bread with butter The bad: the protein is huge but the sides are tiny! Ordered oven roasted chicken breast they brought an entire chicken breast with bone intact, 2 tiny purple potatoes, 3 pieces of mushrooms, and 5 small pieces of cauliflower. Should have taken a pic! Husband ordered a pork chop and his side portions were very tiny as well. Sister ordered a pizza… Sauce had a strange aftertaste. Appetizer: the calamari were soft, excellent texture. Didn’t like the breading on them or the«sweet chili» sauce that came with them. Service: nothing to brag about. Busy server and we asked to close the door because we were cold. They did, but minutes later opened it again. Paid $ 135 for this less than mediocre experience. Won’t be back. Food cooked by executive chef? I think I need to teach him a few things ;)

This place was awesome. Peter the bartender was the man. If you are in Truckee and don’t go here, you’re missing out.

We arrived for lunch I ordered the Ruben with the Barley Beef soup. Both were very good. My wife’s Beets Salad arugula was wilted contained few beets and lacked any walnuts. The kitchen and server didn’t notice

Had a nice enjoyable dinner here! Was super crowded on a Sat night, but we only had to wait about 25 min. Took the time to walk around downtown and see what was around, 25 min is just enough time to basically see the whole downtown. Anyways, the meal was great! Our waiter Craig, was the best! He really helped us in making sure we chose the right dishes to maximize our taste bud pleasure. We started with the beef tartare which was excellent. I’ve only had it a few times but it tasted bascially what I hoped for it to taste. It was fresh, seasoned well and it came with toasted bread. They even gave us some more bread when we ran out! For the entrée I tried the porkchop. This is probably the most bang for your buck as the porkchop is 14 oz! Compared to the steak which is about 7 oz or so. The porkchop was delicious, tender, just right! It came with a nice medley of veges, including Japanese turnips! Which actually isn’t very tasty, a bit plain. I was so stuffed that I didn’t have enough room for dessert unfortunately, but the donut holes were highly recommended. For drinks, I got the Moscow Mule which was so refreshing, barely tasted alcoholic. They added fresh maraschino cherries which gave it a nice twist. They usually have live music here, but it is so noisy in the main music/bar area. SO if you want to have some conversation you are better off in the dining area. Also the bar area is SO squished! They really try to add as many tables as possible. I would just have dinner in the dining area and afterward enjoy the music at the bar area. So overall a bit pricey dinner, but worth it for a nice time! Would come back.

Awesome American Bistro with perfecto Steak Avec Frites, Francaise. Steak tartare was excellent. Service very good, professional, friendly. Warm, bistro setting. Wait was a little long. Price more like 3 $$$. Enjoy!

Great margherita pizza with just the right amount of cheese. Fresh but small side salad. Good but also small selection of beers on tap. My girlfriend got a Bloody Mary which was delicious. Kind of weird and dated atmosphere with 90’s Art Deco/French art, but not a big deal. Busy, but attentive service.

We ate here while stopping in Truckee on our way to Reno. It was a great place to eat ! We all ordered mahi mahi(special of the day) and I got it on a salad where my sister and dad got it on a sandwich. The fries were great and I enjoyed he seasoning and my sister enjoyed her red pepper soup as well. She also requested we get sodas to go and they helped us with that as well! Very nice people in a nice atmosphere ! We are from Indiana and used to kind people and«Hoosier hospitality». These people were so friendly !

Such a cute place. Very good. The soup of the day is always vegetarian, which is cool. The fish sandwich was delicious. And the calamari was too good to stop eating even when you’re full. Very good.

The food was great but the service not so much. We waited for one and a half hours after ordering to relieve our food. While we were waiting, we saw every table around us get served. As soon as the waiter came to our table and started putting food down, it turned out that it was for another table, the icing on top of the horrible cake. When we spoke to the manager, he was gruff and seemed like he had somewhere better to be. The only reason this place gets any stars is because of the food.

Moody’s menu always has creative, seasonal dishes for carnivores and vegetarians alike. The cocktails are strong and the wine list is good. I love hanging out on their back patio in the Summer.

For a place that spends a lot of effort plastering the venue with news articles telling you how good the kitchen is I have to give this place an over arching MEH. Pros: Some of the things attempted appeared to be inventive, fresh-ish and tasted ok. Cons: 1. Noisy 2. Service was glacial in the middle of the afternoon 3. The homemade pastrami was just plain tough. It was under-cooked. 4. EXPENSIVE for what you got. I’m not talking quantity I’m talking value of dish vs. price. This is not a place I’d go again unless I’m trying to impress someone with how much money I can spend without openly wincing. MEH

We just finished our lunch at this restaurant. Service was downright disgusting! Food mediocre. Our drink order and meal order were taken very matter of factly and then our server never returned to the table again. I had to go to the bar to order another drink(bartender was the only person there with a personality!), to the kitchen to ask for our basic needs, and to the manager to get our bill to realize we were overcharged. First and last time here. There are so many great restaurants on this block, don’t waste your time(and money) here!

Willing to be dishonest to make an up sell. After years in the NY restaurant industry, I don’t trust this place. I came in with friends last weekend. Our waiter was downright dismissive in service. I dismissed his neglect because I assumed he was keeping up with a weekend pace. I don’t remember him ever taking a drink order. When the entrees arrived I asked for a «soda water with lime.» I was brought a Voss European sparkling water bottle. When I noticed the server opening it, I stopped him to explain I simply wanted soda water from the bar. He told me they don’t have soda water at the bar. I didn’t believe him but let him pour to avoid an argument at the table. I noticed on the bill, my simple«soda water» was $ 8 before tax/tip. With tax/tip I spent over $ 10 for a single beverage because I sought a non-alcoholic option. I can afford the water. I simply don’t trust any service that claims the only carbonated water in the house costs $ 10 from Europe.

Overall: Best restaurant in town. Friendly and capable staff. Yummy food. Food arrived quick. Love this restaurant. Food: the French onion soup and the truffle fries were amazing. Husband ordered the Hangar steak frites which was also quite perfect.

always a great idea! been here when passing through town & as a destination. can be packed so always call ahead, even during off-peak hours. love the commitment to local, sustainable… salads are always fresh & tasty, sandwiches solid, & burgers haven’t disappointed. we’ve probably ordered 10 across multiple visits — always well seasoned & cooked to temp. finally tried the fondue… really really good — probably best we’ve had at a restaurant — a small goes a lonnnnng way. super nice staff, good cocktails, thoughtful kitchen — wish it were closer to home! love the outdoor space… year round! :)

I met a friend at Moody’s today for lunch. We ended up sitting at the bar which was packed. I was surprised being it was a Thursday afternoon. It actually turned out to be fun. I ordered the house made veggie burger. It was the best one I have ever had! Not one of those pre packaged cardboard wheels. The french onion soup is way too sweet for my taste. But nice presentation. My friend ordered the potato leek soup. It has such a complex flavor. Not just liquid mashed potatoes and leeks. It was phenomenal! I wished that I had ordered that but I will have to get my own next time. The bartender Sheri?, was great! Very attentive and pleasant. She didn’t bat an eye when my friend asked her to make up this odd concoction. It turned out to be very good. So I decided that I had to have one too! All in all five stars for the service, four stars for the food. If you sit at the bar, you won’t be disappointed.

A great local joint to check out in Trucker. First off, hats off to Truckee for its artistic, indie vibe. Was pleasantly surprised by this city, which I often just drove through on my way to Tahoe. I recommend taking time to stop by and support its mom and pops stores. Moody’s has great food and drinks. Cool laid back vibe with decently priced menu. Recommend the grilled fish sandwich and soups.

What a cool place to eat in a really cool town. Moody’s is situated in the The Truckee Hotel building, a Victorian era structure, in the old mining town. I will definitely eat here again! ATMOSPHERE Walk in to a reception area with a modest size bar as the dominant attraction in a room complete with detailed frill from the era. In the back dining room, walls washed in orange and gold paint are accented by large framed Toulouse-Lautrec style prints. Excellent music is broadcast throughout the various rooms. FOOD The menu is extremely creative and begs for sharing. Salads are modest sized and fresh. I had the roasted beets. Pastas are a blend of textures, flavors and sauces. Pizzas are thin crust cooked in wood oven. I couldn’t order everything and settled for a burger topped with Gruyère and avocado along with tomatoes, pickle, onions and lettuce. All served on brioche bun. There were several other more elaborate entrees like the pork tenderloin wrapped in pancetta served with berry and other good stuff. We were also attracted to the lobster Poutine but instead opted for the BONEMARROW served on vivisection shank with bread and salsa verde. I recommend this. DRINKS A very strong list of pre-prohibition cocktails and excellent wine list. SERVICE With smile and style, our server was present without hovering. He had knowledge and was humorous.

Great craft cocktails are served here. This restaurant has a very cozy and warm atmosphere. The tuna wonton app was very fresh and delightful. The server suggested a Cali Chardonnay that paired beautifully with the tuna app. We didn’t get to stay for dinner but the menu had a great variety. I would definitely go back to this establishment if I am in Truckee for a glass of wine and an appetizer and possibly dinner. The food was pretty reasonably priced and the portions looked to be of average size. Truckee is such an adorable town and I would love to see it in the winter.

I’d give the food 4 stars but the service 3. I decided on the Rueben; but, was told it wasn’t available — he forgot to mention this when he welcomed us & told us the specials. Asked for hot tea with lemons & got lukewarm tea and no lemons. We had pizzas, pot pie, & chicken sandwich all with good flavor.

Place was great. Food was solid and just as anticipated. I had the burger and my girlfriend had the pizza. Burger was thick and juicy and the meat was super fresh! The pizza was very fresh and light. I loved the ambience of the restaurant as well. There was old jazz playing and a big projector playing old black and white Disney cartoons. Service was okay but it was New Years Day, so I can’t complain about it. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this place. Oh and they have a nice outdoor patio in front that is pet friendly which was nice!

A «would give 0 stars if possible» experience. Went inside at 4pm, place wasn’t too busy. I asked when a table would be available and was told«probably not the rest of the day or night». Saw a few open tables, asked if we they were reserved(no one else was waiting for a table), was told«yea at some point for dinner later». I had two small kids, it was 20 degrees outside, just wanted some food but was sent down the road

As I walked in, the décor and the ambiance really set the expectations pretty high as the space itself is very cool. However, the service was overwhelmingly poor. Our server messed up our order and never checked in. He never said anything more than what was necessary to get us served. And while we were still eating, the check was dropped on the table without a word. The food was ok. The pizza was quite good. The reuben tasted like it was soaked in lighter fluid. I would have told my server but he never checked in. Seems like a place with a lot of promise, but it was an overwhelmingly disappointing experience.

Strolling through the town of Truckee is like going back in time, a time where things were simpler and the shop owners took a moment to get to know you. Such is the case during several meals at Moody’s. The pickin’s are slim for quality food in Truckee so just save yourself the trouble, forgo the debate of where to dine, put the Unilocal monocle away and head to the beginning of Bridge Street. Some of my favorites have been: the blackened snapper sandwhich, the ahi niçoise salad, and the spit-chicken pizza which has just the right amount of spit(whatever that may be). The wine selection from my perusal seems to be quite good… I of course opt for an Arnold Palmer, refills aplenty with a smile.

Great place to stop by after a fun day kayaking on White Rock Lake. There is an outdoor covered seating area but the sun was hot and low in the sky which made it quite hot so we opted to sit inside. You walk into the restaurant through a large bar area. There are high top dinner tables, a couple of large plush booths as well as regular dining tables. There is also a large area in the back but it was already full with larger parties and reserved tables. My friends had a great looking salad, Chioggia Beet & Arigula, which they said was quite good for $ 16. I had the Niman Ranch Cheeseburger which was amazing. It was very flavorful and cooked perfectly. I added avocado which made it even burger. My friends both got a personal pizza. However one would easily fill up two people. One had the Boar Bacon pizza which was my favorite(I stole a slice from her) and he had a chicken pizza. Thin crust and both were very very good. The Pizza’s were also $ 16 as was my burger. They also had chops, steaks and several other menu items that were pricier. I think this would be a nice place to take your sweetie for a special occasion.

Located in Downtown Truckee, this is a nice place for drinks and snacks. I came 2 nights while on a conference and the service was good. Even when we arrived close to their closing time, they never rushed us and even tried to light up the fire pit outside for us. We only tried the mussels and fries and the calamari and the presentation was nice. Taste was just regular. Overall, we enjoyed this place and street parking was very easy to find.
