Very mediocre food & drinks, at relatively low prices. Margarita pitchers were no bueno and tasted like they were mixed with some acidic/sugary store-bought marg mix. On the upside, service was fine & food portions were large. I realize there are not a ton of options in Truckee, but one can probably do better by simply throwing a dart at a list of options in the area. I will not return.

Awesome service. Place was packed but the staff kept working super hard to take care of everyone. Food was good, margaritas even better. Absolutely recommend…

I usually give people the benefit of the doubt. Walking in, feels like an authentic Mexican cantina. The tequila choices abundant. We ordered the combo player appetizer plate and specified chicken. All was decent until the bill came. Then realized the Tijuana bait and switch was on. By specifying chicken they added an additional $ 7.00 to our bill. Wouldn’t have been a big deal but when questioned, they said they we’re making changes to our menu and would not take the $ 7 off. I’ve been a local for 25 years, really?

Chile relleno’s were still cold. The taco salad said it came with a side of rice and beans, but didn’t. I was still hungry after eating it. A little misleading. The food was just not very good Mexican food overall. Nothing to write home about. I probably won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend to a friend.

Very friendly staff, stiff margaritas and great food. The carnitas plate is especially worth a mention!

ok i know i say i dont give 5 stars often, but this is THE spot for mexican. sit at the bar. order the most ridiculous tequila you cant afford. seriously. los señores will take very good care of you. if the food was crappy, i would still eat it just to kick it with them. but its not. and the salsas are incredible. so disregard any responsible advice from anybody saying that a $ 50 shot of añejo isnt worth it, because we each had 2. and they were the best ive ever had. oh and take your best hermano o hermana. places like this should be shared with the people you love most.

Maybe if you know what is good on the menu, this place would be OK. The good: margaritas as long as you don’t want sugar and a margarita mix in your drink; salsa; beans and rice. The bad: the chile colorado was the worst I have ever had. It was edible but the sauce was like out of a can and the meat was something like little cut up strip steak pieces simmered for 5 minutes in canned red enchilada sauce. Come on — use some real chunks of stew beef and cook it for a few hours. If you were out of chile colorado, tell me and i would have gladly ordered something else instead of being served a lousy substitute. Other folks at the table had dishes that they liked OK so if you order the right thing, you will probably like the meal. And, if just going for drinks, the margarita on the rocks with a called tequila was made properly and I enjoyed that. Service was attentive and friendly though about 10 minutes after they took the bill and cash away, we did have to ask for our change. On a busy weekend, the parking around there can be a pain though usually you can park a couple blocks away in the public lot. I would try there again and select something different off the menu — my friend who eats there a lot likes the chile verde.

Look, come in here and sit at the bar. Let Andrés, the owner, take care of you(if he is there; Calistro is there every night if he isn’t). You will probably meet some awesome locals –talk to them. With any luck you will meet local legends like Rick and Laurie who bought us clay pots, an amazing specialty, to follow our house margaritas. On the recommendation from Andres, we had the Carne Asada and the Carnitas Tapatias. The food was great — filling and affordable(NOTE: finding both in a mountain town is a rarity). They also have any tequila you’ve ever F’ing heard of. So there’s that. Plus, this place is always full of Mexicans which can only be a good sign that these guys are doing something right. On a bitter cold night in Truckee we felt like we were sitting in a bar somewhere in Mexico.

They lost our ticket and had to wait a long time for our dinner but the owner was so kind and apologetic. He gave us our meal for free. He apologized over and over. We felt like he truly cared. We would go back for sure. There were some locals there as well which in my opinion speaks to how tasty the food is.

Love this place. There’s always a friendly face behind the bar that’s ready to get you as liberated as you want to be. They make hands down the best Micheladas(and clay pots) anywhere and the steak rancheros is always a solid go to. Enjoy :)

Casa Baeza is practically our home away from home in Truckee. They are always able to accommodate our large parties, even during ski season and high summer. The food is consistently good and the service is always prompt and friendly, even when it’s a madhouse. Great place for families. I’ve rarely seen this place packed for lunch, and it’s a great place to escape the heat or the snow with a few beers and a plate of carne asada with friends!

Service was terrible. Barely took our order and was off running and it was not that crowded. Food was ok. Dogs were allowed in the restaurant with their owners and these were not service dogs. I

We were here on Saturday and sat at the bar. SO much fun! And, thanks to several people there we had the ceviche. Just wow. Chock full of shrimp and mild white fish. Doctored it up with their various salsas. We shared it and brought quite a bit home. Also shared two tacos, carne asada and carnitas. And of course their fabulous margaritas.

We waited a long time to have our order taken. One waiter worked the whole room and kept apologizing for the delays. Guacamole good, margaritas strong, the rest of the entrees(tamale, taco, and taco salad) mediocre.

I am giving it a two because I’ve had decent experiences here in the past. The food is typical mexican with american influence… too much cheese but tolerable. Today has made me decide to stop trying to come here. I sat at the bar with a girl friend of mine and the guys next to us wouldn’t stop trying to talk to us while calling us bonita… heckling… starring. It was sweet the first time with a compliment and then it got real creepy and annoying. Also the man next to me kept nudging me in the arm, mind you this is at 3 o’clock on a tuesday. The bar tender was also unhelpful to the situation. We chugged our drinks to try and leave and he wasn’t telling us how much we owe to delay us, also joining in with the other two. Bad day vibes being an attractive under 30 year old. Shame for making women feel uncomfortable in your bar.

I have tried many mexican restaurants and this is one of the best in my opinion. Simple reason — the food is fresh and tasty, the chilli relleno is superb because it is light on the batter. Tacos and enchiladas are also excellent and the margaritas are strong! Salsa is very good. Overall a great experience.

Oh where to begin? First, I can honestly say once upon a time the food here was pretty good, but I can also say those days have apparently passed. Must have been their años del oro. The service was pretty bad, while she was polite and pleasant getting a drink refilled took much too long and it was not busy, in fact we were the only occupied table and there were only four people at the bar. She was also a bit of a space cadet, who asks if you want chicken or beef chili verde? It is definitively and exclusively a pork dish, again space cadet but polite. The food was bad, I mean real bad, I’ve had better tacos from Jack in the Box it was that bad, heck Chevy’s was closer to authentic than this stuff. The beans were from a can and Rice a Roni makes a better Spanish rice than this stuff. The chile relleno tasted like it was likely frozen premade, it looked like a rolled up pepper with a little cheese and egg product of some sort but lousy. The tacos were ordinary, the meat bland, and served on premade hard shell tortillas like you’d pick up at the grocery store. The chips were also completely unremarkable and a little stale. Oh and about that chile verde, it was absolutely flavorless; the sauce tasted, well actually it didn’t have any flavor at all, and the pork was old, dry, and sort of hard/overly firm. Suffice it to say I won’t be returning and advise against going for the food.
