Best Pies Pizzeria and Restaurant

Really like their pizzas. The thick one is great. The restaurant is friendly and the kids get to play with the arcade machine. We have been there 4 times this winter.

Definitely not worth the money. We are from out of town and we were starving so we stopped here. The pizza is thin which I like but it’s so so soggy it fell apart when I picked it up. We had the pizzadilla which said it as spicy which it wasn’t what so ever and the jalapeños tasted pickled and just nasty and soggy. If anything come here for their drinks

It can be difficult to find good pizza in California, let alone in Tahoe, and I honestly think Best Pies lives up to it’s name, well, because they have the best pies around! My boyfriend and I came here the other night after 9pm because we were craving Italian food and all of the Italian restaurants in Truckee were closed. And honestly, I’m glad the other restaurants were closed because this pizza really hit the spot.
We ordered a half White Ricotta half Pepperoni pizza and devoured it all. So good! The service was nice as well and so were the drinks. I got a Kentucky Mule and he got a Whiskey Sour (made with real egg whites). The drinks are worth noting because it is rare that one comes across a great pizza place with not only a full bar, but a full bar with a posh drink menu as well! I highly recommend this place, and will be back again soon!

This used to be one of my fav pizzarias anywhere. However, I swear they changed their dough at some point in the last year or two. It’s very average now. Pity.

Here on New Years weekend so the wait is pretty long But worth it. Pizza was fire. Good beer, nice waitresses definitely worth checking out. God bless

By far the BEST pizza around! We live in the Bay Area and there are so many pizza restaurants but nothing compares at all to Best Pies. We look forward to coming here when we head to Tahoe. The service, the food, the ambiance is to perfection. There is nothing like this. Give it a try. You won’t be disappointed! Our fav is the house salad-​carpres R salad, garlic knots, ½ signature pizza for me and ½ sausage and basil for hubby!

Great thin crust pizza and beer selections. Fun downtown location. What else could you want!

Garlic knots! Mozzarella sticks! Cheese thick crust. Pesto cheese with olives added. All were very good. The thin crust was good NY style crispy bottom was just right. Very large portion at 16″. The thick crust came square shaped and huge! Lots of left overs.

Snuck in under the wire for a cocktail and a snack. The bartender was super sweet and let us in right at closing. We ordered wings and two cocktails.
I got a Moscow Mule which was fabulous! Very nice ginger flavor with a good balance of booze! The BF ordered a well bourbon and coke which was a stiff and well proved drink ($ 5)
Now to the wings! They were beautifully breaded. Light and crispy. Not at all greasy. Lots of meat and the sauces had great flavor. The BF loved the hot sauce and swore that they put in horseradish.
The guys sitting next to us ordered and extra slice of pizza that they couldn’t fit in their bellies and we bought it from them as the kitchen closed right after putting on our order. The pizza was really great. Thin crust pesto with sausage and tomatoes. A huge slice as well.
The restaurant was a large space. Able to accommodate larger parties. Plenty of bar and table space. There were these really neat art pieces hanging around that were made of welded railroad ties. Really cool to play ‘I spy’ ;)
The only complaint we had was the video game console. Played lots of old school games, but only got 3 games per dollar and player number 2’s joystick was broken and couldn’t turn left. :(we still managed quite a few giggles trying to play though!
Will stop by again for sure when passing thru town!

First time here and was good and different from any other pizza. would come back again.

I came here with a group of 10, and we were seated immediately. That was nice, especially since such large groups can oftentimes be difficult to accommodate. We ordered pizzas for the table, and they were delicious! I think I ate more than everyone, but I am a huge fan of pizza. It was thin crust, which I do love.
The restaurant was pretty cool. It has a bar with different draft beer selections. They did run out of one mid-​pour after one of the guests at my table ordered it, so that sort of stunk. Otherwise, this was a good experience! Love the pizza, and I definitely recommend it for some cheap eats in Tahoe.

We wanted to eat at a different nearby restaurant but it was full. I peeked inside this one and it seemed pretty empty, which was both a bad sign and just what I was looking for. But then I saw the pizza on a patron’s table. It looked a sickly thin yucky mess. I was about to move on but then checked Unilocal.I saw some recent good reviews and decided to give it a try.
Glad I did! The pizza was fantastic, as was the rest of the food was sampled. Only four stars because they got our order a bit wrong (gave us something we didn’t ask for and left a topping off the pizza).
Still, fun place with a good vibe. I’d visit again for sure.

I had my doubts about this place but these were dispelled when I saw the smiles of all the customers in the restaurant.
We ordered 3 Pies and they were perfectly cooked and deliciously dressed!

The gluten free pizza was delicious! It tasted way better than the frozen crust offered at most pizza places. Tasted homemade. Our waitress was careful to avoid cross contamination when packaging our leftovers.
The gluten-​eaters in our group enjoyed the thin crust pizza. Service was good and atmosphere was fun.

My husband and I came in around 10pm and was planning to order take out. One of the waitresses behind the bar reached under the bar to grab a menu to seat the people who came in after us. Once she sat them down, she passed by us 2 more times without even acknowledging or asking if we need any help. We decide to stand in front of the cash register this time hoping she would talk to us, but still nothing. We were thinking that she was just busy, but there wasn’t many people in the restaurant. We eventually just got tired of waiting and left.
It doesn’t matter if the food is good; if the service is bad forget it!

Be prepared to wait for a very long time to get your pizza. Took over 40 mins to get the pizza without too many people here. Also we ordered chicken wings and waited for 40 mins before we were told that the section was closed. And then, we wait for another 15 mins for them to figure out how to get us a refund. Pizza is very mediocre too.
The staff are friendly and try to keep u happy tho. 1 star is for their effort.

First you have to take into consideration that this place is in Truckee, which is a mountain town, and in California.
I am from New York and there is honestly no GOOD pizza in the entire state of CA and generally you shouldn’t look for pizza in a ski town. Even ski towns out east have terrible pizza.
That being said, If you are looking for NY style pizza in the area, these guys come the closest. The crust is generally a little undercooked but all you have to do is ask for well done and they listen.
Pizza overall is good.
Other things like house salads and apps are not the best.
Some of these reviews were straight laughable. If you want a salad and apps, go to another type of restaurant, not a pizza place. If you want great service, well that wont come anywhere in a ski town, just get used to it. The staff is nice and understanding and just like every other place in Tahoe, understaffed most of the time, so it might take a little longer for the servers to respond or for food to come out.
The point of this review is that most people bashing this place have probably never had good pizza anywhere before and if you are from the city, don’t expect city service. These places don’t need your business as they will stay crowded regardless with the next set of travelers that overcrowd our area. Please go waste your money at pizza bar down the street with its bland, overpriced, «imported Italian» pizza and its cheesy décor. (see what i did there…)

Okay, here’s the deal. We weren’t hungry and we didn’t have a lot of time. But, me and my baby Luv pizza, and it has to be good.
1^st thing, their seating is atrocious! The dining room is mismanaged and arranged terribly. We went to the ‘Wait to be seated’ sign and were told it was 15 – 20 minutes for a table due to their trying to seat a party of 11. They’re were tables for 2 available within feet of us, but they weren’t offered.
Okay, how about a couple of slices of your «Award Winning» pies ‘To Go’? There were no slices up front so we ordered 3 slices ‘To Go’ and hung out in the reception area, next to the empty tables. :(
Yeah, I was getting pissed because 20 minutes passed and our 3 slices were not out, and no one checked on us for updates. We were just lost in the crowd. Seriously! I ordered just cheese!
Well, after close to 25 minutes, our 3 slices arrived and OMG, they were freakin’ delicious! WOW!
It was well worth the wait. Great, thin crust, ready to fold in half, New York style, good amount of cheese, and sauce to die for! Perfect!
So, in a nutshell… do it! If you have the time, of course. And, owners, fix that seating in your dining room! So much wasted space and such a poor arrangement.
They have a great product, but the service lacks severely. This place could rock the town, IF it cared about the customer.
Awesome pie, Baby. Even as I write this, my mouth is watering. Well done. But, sorry, you lose a star due to seating and wait time for a slice of cheese pie.
Lastly, Tip… daily 2−6PM. A slice & a beer $ 5. Damn, it was 1:40. Will be back.

I really wanted to like this place, I did. But the food just wasn’t impressive. I had the soup de jour, which was chicken vegetable, and it was extremely plain and underwhelming with a side of saltines. Also, the side salad was not anything special either, it was just lettuce, tomatoes and onions. And the kicker? My dinner was $ 14.
Totally should have just gotten the $ 2.50 slice of pizza Togo. Although, my friend who was with me told me she wouldn’t return to this place either, and that’s what she ordered.

The pies just don’t live up to the name. I came in thinking we were in for a treat and left somewhat disappointed. Here’s why:
There are a limited number of restaurants in Truckee. We wanted pizza and this looked like the best, if only spot. The atmosphere was nice enough — a big open old room with rickety tables, a long bar and TVs for watching the game. Our server was a little absent, like she didn’t really want to be there.
With a name like «Best Pies» though, I reserved my strongest criticism for the food. The combo pizza we ordered was all up to spec as far as toppings, disbursement and overall flavor, but the crust was crummy. My brother noted that the oven may be too hot when they cook it. It was burnt to a crisp on the bottom and soft and doughy in the middle. We ate most of it out of sheer hunger.
I may return if I’m in the area as I feel they are due a second change. This first experience left me feeling unsatisfied.
