Stumbled into this little gem and glad we did! Featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dive, this place is worth the wait! The Thanksgiving sandwich is delicious & the wait staff is super friendly and playful. We will be back!

Well, the reviews looked so promising, so we waited for supper. NOTWORTHIT. The service was neglectful & slow & the staff was just plain non-interested. The food was less than satisfying– gross, actually. Out of 6 people, only 2 ate their meals. Maybe we were here on an off night, but I cannot recommend it.

This is our first time here and it was a great experience! Staff is very friendly and we were seated within 10 minutes. Ordered the macaroni with cheddar and a grilled cheese with fries for our daughters, definitely got our money’s worth as the portion for both is generous. My husband and I ordered to share the fish and chips and the small shrimp/lobster mac & cheese. Both were generous portions as well. We would definitely recommend this place and will be back on our next trip to Truckee.

We started out with some confusion on seating. My server Rose quickly jumped into action got things all straightened out. Her counter part«Alley Cat» handled the drinks and what not while Rose took care of the seating issues. I am very impressed with the flawless customer service these ladies displayed. The food, with some trusted advice from my server. I ordered my first ever crab cakes from a diner. The crab cake sandwich was really good! Honestly this place it pretty cool. It is like a old skool diner and a fine family restaurant. I would recommend giving them a try. Did I mention the homemade milk shakes!!!

This is the CUTEST little diner. Set in an old train car, it has a great fun décor and amazing food. The Cobb salad and the thanksgiving sando were absolutely incredible. One star removed for slow service, but I guess it’s not the big city, hurry up vibe here :)

Can’t speak more highly of this place. Our server, Rose, was OUTSTANDING! Filled with smiles, she accompanied our large party, and did it with ease. A true«TEAMPLAYER.» Great family feel mixed with locals and tourists. A must try in Truckee!

This place is great. Service was great; and food excellent and portions are sizeable. Highly recommend their version of corned beef hash — with which they take some serious liberties but definitely manage to pull it off. The place is bigger than first appears from outside. The art deco design is pretty cool.

Not so great service. As I sat for 12 minutes at the counter waiting for someone to notice. I counted 5 servers mostly talking amount them selves. There were only a handful of customers in the place. I finally left and went to a different eating establishment .

Was in Tahoe to visit family and were starving so we pulled this place up and headed over! Parking was a bit of a pain as it’s paid and the parking lot is small. We lucked out and managed to find a spot. Wait was about 15 minutes, the place was packed, which I always deem as a good sign! The interior of the restaurant is so adorable! We loved the vintage trailer vibe, it made the space feel so warm and cozy. Were seated and promptly attended to. I immediately eyeballed their Chai tea latte and ordered that. Being 25 degrees outside, I think a nice hot drink was necessary; hubby got the Irish coffee and we were warmed up quite well after that. Our waitress(who was super friendly!) was back pretty quick to take our order, I got the Corned Beef Hash and husband got the Biscuits and gravy. The food took about 20 minutes I think to come out, the place was still crazy busy so I think that’s pretty good. As our food was placed in front of us, I could not wait to dive in. The corned beef hash smelled amazing and I’m a huge fan of corned beef and potatoes. Call me satisfied. Was seasoned great and cooked well! I was stuffed about half way in, wish I had a second stomach. Hubby loved his biscuits and gravy, devoured the entire plate. We both enjoyed this place as it catered to our love of diner/comfort food type places. Will definitely be back when we visit Tahoe again!

Meh. Guy Fieri has been here once, and this place was on TV. They sure aren’t shy about rubbing that in your face to promote their dishes! I had the pulled pork sandwich, and let me tell you that the pulled pork I make is 10x better. My wife had a burger, and it was just totally normal. Everyone raves about the crab cake slider so we got one of those as well. It was just an average crab cake — nothing special. HOWEVER, I did notice that the bun on the crab cake slider was awesome. My wife’s burger bun was really good too. My brother ordered a side of an english mufifn, and that was delicious as well. So if you go there, I would recommend getting something with a baked item. Ask if they bake that item there, and if they do, it will likely be good. My brother got chicken fried steak and eggs, and that was really great as well. I bet an eggs benedict there for brunch would be killer. Not so awesome? Our service. It really took forever to get served, and we had to beg to get the check. So look… if you need some diner style food, you could do far worse than Jax Truckee Diner. That being said, keep your hopes in line. The food is above average for a diner, but I’ve had significantly better service at Denny’s.

From 10am-6pm you must pay for parking, we came here after checking it out on Unilocal. They offered a discount for Unilocalers and the menu looked great. We were promptly seated and I loved the local feel and train car look. It is very eclectic. A bit chaotic, lots to see. The hostess was nice, but did not offer us crayons for our son. I assumed they had none. Our son was a bit antsy so we asked and our seater, Christian promptly got us their coloring activity for kids. That makes it great for parents! They have a small flat screen in the dining car near the bafstools if you’re a sportsfan. However, they don’t have a liquor license so the drinks are limited. I had the electric lemonade and it was a subtle blend. Not too sour, not too sweet and I barely tasted the liquor. We also ordered the peanut butter shake, it was amazing — served and made old fashioned(I just wish it had a cherry on top) The water tasted mountain crisp and they did have a lemon slice for mine :) They also offer kids cups, which are great and spill proof for toddlers! After drinks and exploring an overwhelming menu, I decided to go with the kobe beef meatloaf which was featured on Food Network(Diners, Drive In & Dives) our waiter, Skyler, was very knowledgeable about the menu and accomodating.(ALL of the staff was smiles, helpful and kind!) The kobe beef meatloaf itself was moist and flavorful, well seasoned(ALL the meals have large portions), wrapped in bacon(supposedly applewood, but I didn’t taste apple) and topped with crunchy onion strings. I really liked the crunchy topping, it gave the dish texture. I wish the bacon was a bit more crisp. The sauce that complimented this savory prime meatloaf was delicious, but VERY sweet. It could use less sugar, or a few dashes of salt. The broccolini was amazing, best broccolini I have had, cooked just enough to take out the bitterness and perfectly salted. The mashed potatoes were perfect, not too chunky or creamed. They were subtly seasoned with garlic, I added a bit of pepper. I love that their food is asthetically beautiful and plated well, it really makes a huge difference. We also ordered the pulled pork sandwhich with onion rings. The onion rings were amazing. Second best I have had in my life! However, he said the pulled pork tasted old? I had a bite and the flavor did not burst for me, the bread got soggy, too :/My son had the chicken strips which were phenomenal, moist and crispy crunchy on the outside. The fries were nice and crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. We waited a bit longer than expected for check and food, but gave us time to see bathrooms — they were clean and well kept. Our waiter Skyler really made the experience enjoyable and the food was good. I really loved the kobe meatloaf, just take it easy on the sauce and get it on the side if you are sensitive to sweet. All in all, it is a good place, good food, good price and great service! If I am ever back in town, I would like to try the stuffed chicken beast or chefs choice steak.

If 0 was an option this would be it. Hosted was rude. We waited 30 minutes to be seated at the counter. Once seated no water no menus. Parties on either side of us had nothing. We saw no food coming from the kitchen. We couldn’t wait any longer. A Diners Drive Ins and Dives visit doesn’t mean you can abandon good customs service. However, Jax has done just that.

Wait is way too long told 20 mins and it took an hour. This place is unorganized, the hostess had multiple open tables that sat empty for almost 30 mins while the front was overpacked with people waiting. We were told it was going to be a 20 min wait and it took 45 mins to be seated 15 mins to get a drink order and another 30 mins for the food to come

Friends and I had just participated in the Spartan Beast the day before and we were tired, sore and starving! We’ve heard great things about Jax diner and wanted to try it out. From the front, it looks very small, but the dining area wraps around the kitchen, giving the diner much more space. The interior is absolutely adorable and vintage-y. It’s one of the true diners that have been around for years.(It also appeared on Diners, drive-ins and dives on the Food Network: D) All the food sounded absolutely delicious and we took a long time perusing the menu. I really wanted to order a shake, but I got a Bloody Mary instead. It was one of those mornings. Friends ordered the chicken and waffles with sides of hash and Jax corned beef hash and I got the Paleo Sink hash. The size of the hash is a bit small, but it’s dense and packs a punch with great flavor. My Paleo sink hash was so delicious with sweet potato and chorizo and chicken. The egg on top was also a perfect touch. The chicken and waffle was also amazing. The waffle was so fluffy and soft while the fried chicken was juicy and succulent. Too bad we live so far from Tahoe because I can easily see how this diner can become a favorite. It’s so homey, warm and friendly with great food. This is becoming a normal haunt for my dad and I. Twice, we have come in and twice have received remarkable service from Julie. The food at Jax is good solid comfort food. I ordered the grilled Chicken sandwich and my dad got the crumbled chicken sandwich. I ordered mine with Bleu cheese and my dad posted his with cheddar. It took a bit longer this time for the food to come out. But it was piping hot when it did. Julie and the bus people made sure that our drinks were filled before they ran dry. Several times someone speed by the table to check on our status and make sure we satisfied. A1 and Julie just made the meal that much better. — — — — — — — — — – Bottom line Yes, this is our truckee stop and we will be coming back
