On a recent family trip to Tahoe, we decided to give a local Truckee joint a try before leaving town. Most in our party were in the mood for Mexican, so Golden Rotisserie rose to the top of the list with its positive Unilocal ratings and reviews. Our group went the way of making this more of a Mexican stop, grabbing up tacos, tostadas, and quesadillas. It appeared as though tri-tip was a big seller from the reviews, so I had it on a taco, along with another taco with pork. I was on the edge of ordering a third, thinking these would be basic street-style tacos, but am so glad I didn’t. They’re a little larger in size than a typical street taco, but they come with triple the amount of meat I’d normally expect to get on such an item. Suffice to say the value proposition, at least for the tacos, is incredible. With regard to the actual quality of the food, it was a mixed bag for my tacos. The pork was incredible — seasoned well, cooked to perfection, quite tender and juicy. The tri-tip, on the other hand, was a huge let down. Dry, tough, and just one tiny step above bland on this occasion. And, being that I live 2,000 miles away, unfortunately I’m not able to give another opportunity for it to redeem itself. Everyone else in our party reported really enjoying the food. Let’s call it better-than-average Mexican food, save for my tri-tip taco. The place is a bit divey, if just a bit under average for strip-mall fare. Admittedly, it seemed very popular as we must have seen a dozen people come in for take out while we chowed down in the dining room. Service was at the counter, and basic and friendly. Food = 4⁄5 Facility = 2⁄5 Service = 2⁄5 Ambiance = 2⁄5 Value = 4⁄5

This place serves a little above average mexican food. The tri tip quesedillas are flavored with red sauce which causes a red mess when eating. The crispy chicken tacos were really good and the beans and rice were standard. Really, an ok choice for mexican food.

Stopped by this place on the way to Squaw Valley Resort. It’s located in a strip mall northwest of the roundabout you encounter as you exit the 80. I ordered the combo plate(tri-tip and chicken) and enjoyed my meal. While neither meat was spectacular in any way, they were tasty and the portions were more than generous for the $ 10 meal. My friends who ordered the burrito were also very pleased with their selection, which was a few dollars cheaper than my order. Other food options in the area can get pricey, especially if you eat in Squaw Village, so if you’re looking for a cost-effective meal on your way to the mountains, I highly recommend this place.

I always drive by this place thinking it’s a chicken and tried tip place. I finally stopped in. It’s located in a strip mall next to the Truckee DMV. I walked in and noticed the large menu of food items listed. It’s about 80% Mexican dishes and a couple trip tip and chicken plates. All come with tortillas and or tortilla chips. I wanted some chicken so I ordered the chicken Quesadilla with a drink. 8 bucks, really affordable. I received my plate loaded with the largest tortilla I’ve ever seen loaded with melted cheese and chicken, and of course tortilla chips. The food is good and authentic. The ambience of the place is very casual, self serve soda machine along with Spanish tiled tables. They H Ave a counter area to sit at as well. Place could use a floor cleaning being that it is hard to believe that at the beginning of lunch the floor could have so much dirt, dust, etc on it. They do serve beer here, an Alaskan IPA and Mod r long on draught. The experience was a great value but I would only come back nifty I were in a hurry and really really hungry. I hope the kitchen is cleaner than the floors in the customer area.

Good for its price but not great. Burrito was good for the location(but not when compared to SF). Guacamole with chips was disappointing. Isn’t guac supposed to be green? This was completely oxidized(think muddy brown) as if the person scraped the top of their container rather than scooping into a deeper layer. Really wanted to like this place. Oh well. At least I found great sandwiches in the same complex, at New Moon.

Tasty, fast, inexpensive, friendly. I tried the quarter chicken, white meat, with 2 sides and tortillas. The chicken skin had a luscious deep brown lacquer from the soy-lime marinade, so I didn’t much mind that the white meat was a little on the dry side. Excellent pico de gallo, and I also loved the cucumber salad — so simple, just cukes, red onion, and carrot with a vinegar dressing — and really refreshing. My other side was the black beans, nicely seasoned with salt and cumin. But what I want to come back for is the pork(pastor) which we saw just coming off the rotisserie; man, that looked crispy-savory-delicious! Incentive for a next time.

Yes, I am back again! In fact, I came back in July, 2015 too. :) No need to wait too long to get the food! Of course, you have to come here when it is not rush hour. I love their«Tri-Tip»… Beef is juicy, both the side orders are very good too!

Best place to each in Truckee at least in my opinion. Hospitality is it’s greatest attribute. The food is unlike any other restaurant in Truckee and waiting for your food is not an issue. They are quick. But not too quick. But Sergio is the owner and he is the nicest guy youll ever meet. A Plus for Golden.

What do you do when you get a text that you’ve got a couple of friends who want to stop by for dinner and you’re in the car 30 minutes from home with an empty fridge because you’ve been traveling so much? Swerve into the parking lot to try this place out, that’s what you do! I opted to go for the whole soy lime chicken, chopped into bits, for around $ 10. It didn’t come with anything else. No salsa, so chips, no tortillas, no rice, nada, nada, nada. I’ll have to dig through my pantry when I get home. We all actually enjoyed it. Very juicy and flavorful, and yes, similar to what T’s serves in Incline Village. Just wish it came with a few sides — next time, I’ll order extra stuff.

After shredding on Sugar Bowl Resort. We were extremely hungry and wanted Mexican food. Found this lovely gem on the side of Donner pass road. Wow. This place is Amazeballs. I highly recommend ordering the daily special. It consist of three al pastor tacos w/rice & beans. The interior is pretty plain. It’s pretty much explanatory. You order at one register and you’ll pick up at the other. Gave it a 4 out of 5 stars just because tables were dirty.

Gross. I expected the chicken in the tacos to be all grilled and roasted-like, since this place is a «rotisserie». But it was sort of stewed and all dark meat. The tri tip wasn’t much better. The tortillas and chips tasted all chemically, like they were stored in the supply room near the bleach. I have no idea why this place got such high reviews; I suspect it’s the cheap prices.

We only tried the pork and two-time because the chicken was not ready. The tri-tip was too tough and a bit underwhelming or disappointing. The pork was juicy and soft. Pricing is reasonable. If I come back, I’ll probably try the chicken and pork and skip the tri-tip.

Driving through the area on a way to a wedding, we were pleased to find this place for lunch! The great Unilocal reviews were what drew us here and it was solid. It’s located in a little strip mall next to the DMV and it seems like a lot of locals come in here. No frills, nothing fancy, but it was nice that they had TVs so we could watch some football over lunch! My wife and I split the tri tip/chicken plate and 2 pork tacos. The chicken was tender and had good seasoning and the tri tip was cooked nicely, tender and juicy. We got 4 slices of tri tip, a leg/thigh for the chicken with some beans, rice, and 3 tortillas for $ 9.25. The tacos were tasty as well. They gave us a lot of meat so that was definitely a bonus!

I preface all of my mexican food establishment reviews by saying that I am a native New Mexican and have an affinity for Mexican food — now that we have that out of the way… I visited this place twice while in the Tahoe area. The first time, it was a five star experience, the second time a bit lower and I can’t put my finger on why that is. I even ordered the same thing(chicken tacos) both time. The second time they just weren’t as good. The location is in a strip mall with a Taco Bell and a DMV near by. The restaurant is small with a couple of picnic tables outside for dining. The menu is pretty limited, but what they have is good. During our dining experiences we had chicken tacos, a chicken quesadilla, rotisserie chicken and chicken burrito — everything we had a good taste and the portions were very generous for the price. We ordered the hot salsa and it was a bit hot, but we like HOT salsa. The service is the area this place is lacking — no one was every particularly friendly or welcoming. Oh well… you can keep your smile to yourself and I will take your tasty chicken tacos!

Good local fast food with sit down. Chicken, pork and steak cooking on the rotisserie looking delicious. Kids had chicken and plain Quesadillas and seemed very happy. Tri-tip burrito and pork burrito were generous, tasty and held up well throughout. Very greasy but that’s kind of part of the experience. Store is quite worn and clearly gets lots of traffic, but mostly locals were walking in and ordering so I view that as an endorsement of sorts. Seems to be a family-owned restaurant but I didn’t really ask(had that feeling — the staff seemed to mesh and work together well). If you’re looking for quick Mexican food with an emphasis on good meats, this might be for you. Editing this — tasted my daughters chicken quesadilla — wow it was very delicious! Very tender chicken, generous amounts of cheese. She could only eat half. Yum!

Wasn’t a bad place to eat. Definitely Americanize Mexican with a flavor of authentic. I believe they make their own tortilla chips which is a super plus. I ordered a tri tip quesadilla which was very tasteful. A lot on the menu. Lots of beers to choose from. Definitely recommend and unfortunately to say it’s a ‘Must’ because there’s not too much in the area.

Stellar, with the theory of relativity in consideration– What you pay for, Get, and Expect. ¼lb TriTip, ¼ Chicken, Rice, Beans, 3 tortillas, Salsa, $ 10 out the door. They know how to do meat. Moist, skin carmalized, bone-in flavor enhancing goodness. Their arroz, frijoles, salsa’s, y tortillas all uphold to the Mexican tradition! Price is right, food is tasty and fresh, service is that of a taco shop, and servings are Moy Perfecto! Will return 4 sure :)

After reading the awesome reviews and wanting to grab a bite on the way back home, I decided to stop by this place and see what it was all about. I ordered a chicken and tri tip plate served with slaw, rice, and tortillas. Unfortunately, the chicken was super duper dry. The tri tip was seasoned well but it was also overcooked. The salsa was the saving grace to put some moisture into the meat. The chicken is spinning right next to the register. I saw quite a few people come in to order whole ones. I wasn’t too thrilled with the meat… not sure if I’d come back and give it another whirl.
