Walked in at 7:20PM on a weeknight. Stood around awkwardly in the dim light as the other patrons wondered aloud where the staff were. Walked out 10 minutes later. Probably saved like $ 30

Im not from this area but when I walked into the bar I thought I was a long lost friend. the staff knows how to treat you. shout out to my man Tyler behind the bar. you rock as well as you’re staff. the owner of North peak and Kilkenny’s should be proud to have a staff like they have.

I always enjoy Kilkenny’s for the Sunday night trivia, free pool and darts, and delicious wings. It’s a clean environment with a cozy atmosphere. The bartenders are funny and friendly, worthy of all the tips. Come downstairs beneath North Peak for a good time!

Easily the worst service in traverse city. Stay away. This place is a joke! Stay away. You’re better off staying home. The help is laughable!

We were in town for Iceman 2015 — every place was packed… and we were without reservations. My mountain biker husband was hoping for North Peak Brewing Company — but the house was packed and the wait was 1 ½ hours, so we headed downstairs to Kilkenny’s…and found a table immediately and full selection of North Peak brews! Many reviews discuss how dark it is… it is — but we liked it, a lot. Menu is Irish Bar food — including Reuben, Fish and Chips, Hearth Baked Pizza, Angus Burgers and Fish and Chips(among other items). It was worth the walk down the stairs!

Everytime we visit Traverse City Kilkennys is the place to go out! Great music, usually have a live band or a dj. It is located in the basement of North Peak which is a great restaurant, so its really fun to go out for dinner then go dancing downstairs at Kilkennys. It’s really the only place aside from the Holiday Inn night club where you can go dance.

Love the atmosphere, a little dark. The North Peak beers offered here are better variety than the brewery upstairs. Scotch selections were plentiful. Staff/bartenders were super friendly.

I absolutely love Kilkenny’s. I take everyone from out of town here no matter what. I love the atmosphere, I love the basement look, I love the beer. I do on the other hand WISH since it’s an Irish bar that they PLAYED at least once a week IRISH pub rock MUSIC. I don’t know if they do on St. Patrick’s Day, but if they don’t they should at least that day. I would totally go there if I was in town, but I usually go to New York for St. Patrick’s Day. As all the times that I’ve been there I’ve never one time seen an Irish band play. They usually have great band though. It’s definitely a fun place to hang out.

Great place to have drinks with friends, catch a live show, or eat a nice meal. Two totally different levels with very different feels, to each place. Bartenders are awesome! Very knowledgeable and friendly! The clientele is varied — a little of something for everyone. Amazing selection of beer, and the best white Russian I’ve had in a long time. Its a little dark, abs could definitely use an update, but it depends on what you’re going for — I guess the décor adds to the charm of the place. I’ll come here again for the food, for sure.

My husband and I have come here for the past few years when we visit Traverse City. Yes, it’s in the basement below North Peak Brewing Co, and it’s on the dark side, but I like that. They serve some of North Peak’s brews. While I normally like Porters, theirs is hoppy(which I don’t like). However, I love the Shirley’s Irish Stout. On Mondays they have a Pitcher & Pizza deal. Even last year you could pick from any of the pizzas served upstairs at North Peak(fabulous), but now you get a different type of pizza altogether and it stinks. Just get the cheap pitcher deal and forget the pizza. Oh, Monday is also trivia night, which is fun.

My coworker and I love coming to this bar every time we visit Traverse City. It’s right below the brewery. There’s usually a couple dollar cover charge but its well worth it. The band on Saturday night was Paper Airplanes or something and they played a lot of top 40’s, 90’s rock, modern music. They were really good at getting the crowd pumped up. It gets pretty packed on the dance floor. If you can handle the 21st birthday crowds, it’s a pretty fun place.

Well if you like Basement Bars with kind of a dingy feel this might be for you also great if you are vampire cause it is very dark. Our service sucked. The waitress brought the wrong check and credit card to the table 2x even after telling her the name on it. We also had to ask her multiple times for things she just kept forgetting. The beer was cold, the music was good and floors were slippery.

Great beer, good pizza, but holy greasebuckets! Ask for extra napkins with your pizzas if you like your heart.

I came here on a saturday and they had an excellent live band going. People here are down to dance so it was fun for the whole bachelor party. Decent beer pricing and a selection that includes brews from North Peak brewery above it. The bar is in a dimly lit basement with old school thick dark oak furniture. Recall walking around your house at 2am with night lights for illumination and you understand the darkness that is Kilkenny’s. It’s a very popular place with lots of tourists coming in. Case and point I bumped into a girl i went to homecoming with in novi that i hadn’t seen in six years there. The whole crowd was in their 20’s with dress more casual than nearby bars.

Pizza and pitcher on Monday was an excellent deal– and on top of that, the pizza was great. The Greek and the Mushroom pizza were our choices, and we were pleased with both of the options. The red and the stout were good choices for beer. The bartender/waitress was attentive and friendly. She was also very good at dodging the very drunk older man at the bar who was asking her«So, what are you doing after work?» Polite without telling him to buzz off like she should have done! :)

An Irish Bar in name only. Kilkenny’s offers the typical bar scene: large bar, a few tvs, stage, but Dark… sooooo dark. But always fun, no mater when I go! Typically good music, yummy apps and great bartenders. Don’t worry about your makeup/get-up as no one will be able to spot you in this deep dungeon. I’ll return!

FML, who brought me to this place. Trouble with a capital T. Broken glass, discussions about concussions, friends randomly hooking up, seeing too much hair in the wrong places, shots of crown, shots of tequila, slippery floors, lots of beer, very dim lighting, douchey dudes, etc. Its the nicks uptown of TC. Closes at midnight on Sundays, wtf.

This is where the pub crawl began… They’ve got some great bar food – I had the Sunflower Reuben, not bad for absorbing mass quantities of beer and whiskey Pretty good selection of beers:

«Hey Mom, is my makeup okay?»(after a day in the sun with a burnt nose) «Yes, it looks good, babe.» «K, cool. I suppose it doesn’t matter though, considering I am heading to a dark dungeon.» «It’s a great spot, though! Your makeup is fine.» This place may be dark… but it is cool nevertheless. Below North Peak, downtown Traverse City, lies Kilkenny’s– a friendly Irish pub that is somewhat new(I think it opened in 2006 or 2007). It has also VASTLY improved since indoor smoking was banned last May. I have been here time and time again to meet up with friends, listen to local music, and have a local home brew… they feature North Peak’s homemade ales(my favorite is the Northern Light). I came here on Monday, which is historically a slow bar night. I met some girl friends for Trivia, which livens the place up and is quite entertaining. Boy, were we bad. We nailed the first round and basically failed after half time. It’s all in good fun though, right? They set up trivia at the little stage where bands play on weekends. I love the seating in here, the pool table area, and the service. Prices are good, there’s a dart board, and they have a variety of food options on the menu. All in all, one of my favorite Irish pubs!

This is a fun Irish pub in the basement of North Peak. It’s very convenient to downtown Traverse City. They get very busy, so the wait for drinks can be long. They offer a full bar and I like their selection of local wines. The drinks are very reasonably priced. The interior is dimly lit(it is in the basement…) and cozy. There is a pool table and dart board. The servers are very friendly. Check the Record Eagle or their website for the listing of musicians playing here. It’s a fun place to catch a live performance.
