I have worked and/or lived in Traverse City for nearly the last fifteen years. Today was the first time eating a sandwich from there… I really wish I could get the last fifteen years back. By far the best sandwich I’ve had up untill today… Who knows going forward, going back tomorrow to try another.

LUVLUVLUV this place. Been meaning to stop in for a few years & finally found myself in the area. It’s fabulous. A wonderfully charming 5+ generation full service Italian deli. The current owner was behind the deli counter & introduced himself. The staff were all very personable & helpful with all their wide ranging products. I found green curry Vietnamese sausage, & fig sausage in the freezer section along with a multitude of international dry goods. There made to order sandwiches & bakery items are DELISH. I had their pastrami & it was yummy. I followed it up with a big PB cookie which was also divine. HIGHLYRECOMMENDED! GONOW! ;)

Really nice specialty deli, food shop, and wine shop. It has an interesting selection of food. I got a sandwich from the deli, we bought bread, and huge cookies. All were delicious. I loved the cinnamon bread with raisins, but it was not sweet enough for my husband. He did love the oatmeal raisin cookie which was the size of a bread plate.

This venue presents the following dilemma — can you tolerate the rude, unpleasant staff long enough to receive the fantastic sandwiches? The sandwiches are, in fact, the best in Traverse; but you pay twice for them — the actual monetary price, which is not unreasonable — then the emotional price of rude treatment, which is completely unreasonable.

Probably the best sandwiches we have ever had. There is a huge variety and you can’t go wrong on any of them. A really great place!

Home of some of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. I don’t have a go-to sandwich. There is a huge selection and I’ve only been here twice so I’ve tried to ~diversify my choices each time. Definitely make it a point to stop in when you are in Traverse City for sandwiches, wine, cheese, and a huge selection of other specialty items. You are going to walk in and want everything!

I’ve been following these guys on instagram and their sandwiches always look awesome. I finally got in and checked them out. The menu was vast and all Delicious sounding. After much debate we opted for the Sicilian — pesto, moz, tomatoes and prosciutto on great bread. The meat was a dollar extra which brought the whole thing to 10 bucks. A little steep however it was DELICIOUS!

I’ve been getting Black Label 24-month Prosciutto di Parma here for years because that stuff is dynamite! It’s like meat-silk for the angels and is so addictive! I also really enjoy the #1(Italian Combo) sandwich with one of their giant pickles on the side! The bread is also fabulous! If I’m really looking to treat myself, I’ll get some of their baklava! Diabetes never tasted so good! Occasionally they also make these softball-sized, Panko crusted mac n’ cheese balls or a risotto ball with ham and cheese inside. Yum. Seriously, yum. If only my bank account loved them as much as my stomach does.

I was dining in Traverse City with friends and remarked, «I could live here if there were only a few good delis or markets» and one friend replied, «What about Fogarelli’s?» I’d been coming to TC for decades and somehow never heard of it, but once I discovered it, Fogarelli’s became an instant favorite. Not only do they have a wider selection of great Italian salamis and cheeses than most markets outside of Italy, they have a wide range of foods you won’t find anywhere North of Bay City, including a good selection of Asian foods. Atmosphere is friendly, too. I go every time I’m in town.

Very nice, small, local market in Traverse City. It has a deli which includes meats, cheeses, and some prepared foods. The prices are a bit high(a lot of items were higher than Whole Foods). That being said, if you want quality foods in Northern Michigan, it is going to cost you. Also, I am fairly certain their frozen pasta is NOT homemade(but the price of it would suggest that it was). Their beer selection was pretty small, but they featured some pretty solid choices.

My wife has been taking me to Folgarelli’s for years and years, has to be about 11 years now. We’ve bought spices, bulk olives, pickled veggies, bulk olive oil(particularly the tasty imported Spanish olive oil), meats and cheeses from the deli case, deli sandwiches, soup and finally chocolates. Those last two are the ones that I was most disappointed in. The chocolates that they are making look fantastic and are no doubt made of the finest(and expensive) ingredients, but for the price, I wouldn’t buy them again. They didn’t knock my socks off and we paid I think about $ 9 for four pieces, if they had knocked my socks off, I would likely have put this as a 5-star review and would be very poor, from eating tasty tiny chocolates. I had their soup and sandwich the other day, I wasn’t in the mood for a fully sandwich(to note, I’ve never had one that I didn’t love), so their soup and«to-go» sammy combo was right what I was looking for. I got the beef and barley, I knew it wouldn’t be as good as my wife’s, but I figured Folgarelli’s would probably get close. Nope. It was a bit watered down and I feel it lacked real flavor. I can’t put my finger on it being that there wasn’t enough beef fat /«au jus», it could have used a little more salt maybe, the stock just seemed weak. But neither the chocolates nor the soup will keep us from visiting Folgarelli’s in the future and I might give the soup another try, but likely not the beef and barley. Also, those Anise flavored pizzelle cookies are great!

sure, they have some nice stuff but it is criminally overpriced. if you go to even meijer’s they will have equivalents of all these canned and dry goods. as for the olives and cheese and so forth, i would go across the street for selection and price. i still want to try the sandwiches here and my mother raves about the cookies. i really have not compared the wine selection with that across the street, so…

Get ready, I am passionate about this place. Grocery store dry good: This place is overpriced. All the items in the store are familiar to me and marked up at least 30% higher than anywhere I previously bought them. Sandwiches: Mediocre attempts at hoagie, submarine style Italian sandwiches. The variety is enormous and an odyssey in both blandness and slim portions of meat. Again, price is a real issue here. These sandwiches are at least $ 3-$ 4 more than anywhere in the USA I have purchased them. The crowning insult is the facsimile of Italian bread they are served on. Confections: There is a limited selection of what appear to be fine confections. Purchased several with our sandwiches as picnic desert. They were mediocre, over priced, and packed so poorly that they broke apart in transit. Customer Service You better be a townie if you expect any special help or attention(as a frequent visitor to TC, this is the ONLY place we have experienced this attitude). The owner was at the cash register. Took our money while talking to a friend and was annoyed when I asked him to bag the sandwiches for transport, instead of carrying them loose. This place was recently well reviewed in the Traverse City tourist magazine. Beware it is not as stated. Bland, expensive, and small-town snobbish. Reviewers note: We have been in TC10 times in two years as a tourist. We have eaten at the most and least expensive establishments in town. We have found this to be the most beckoning and friendly tourist destination in the Midwest. Fogarelli’s is the ONLY place we have felt we were abused as tourists.

My girl friend and I went here because one of our customers recommended it. SO good. There were such options! The people were really nice too. We didn’t explore the whole store since we were kind of pressed for time, but it was a good size. Deli meats, cheeses, wine. Both of us agreed that we had fallen in love. Too bad I didn’t bring a cooler, I probably would have cleaned them out. We just wanted to eat everything here.

After reading all the reviews here, we drove in from the Cadillac area. Coming from«detriot suburbs», where there are REAL ethnic Italian storefronts all over the place… I was curious. Hell, my Italain family was coming up for the holidays, and«where in the world», do you find Italian prime deli cuts in «Northern, mi??? I’ve bought the«prepakages FAKE tastings stuff they sell vacumned packed at «both Meijers» and Walmarts… Gag me… But when«you’re desperate, they’ll «do in a pinch», on their homemade bakery Focetta breads …(which are very good) Ok, we went, it was worth the trip just to «buy the REAL deal Procuttio /hot Capacgal, etc. Some deli items/etc. True, they’ll NEVER compare to the Italian stores«downstate», because«they don’t have enough room» in store. BUT, I’ll be back. People that«COMPLAIN» about the cost of their true Italian sandwiches… Do NOT realize the cost of «GOOD Italian Deli meats… Those people, might«as well, just go to Arbys or Manceno’s, for their versions of «Italian subs/sandwiches(cheap ham, samli, NO comparison in «Quality» The same Sandwich they sell here, will«sell for $ 20 plus Bucks in Chicago or New York… So, «stop complaining» enjoy a real treat or «go to one of the places I mentioned and get«the American version of «Italian sandwich”~laughing~ Oh, someone said, «For the cost of an Italian sandwich, «they should«throw in the deli pickel»…Correction is in order… REAL Italians«do not«serve pickles» even on their«antipast’ trays»… Maybe with a «corn beef/or pastrami sandwich, but it is «not customary» for Italian(from the homeland and their next of generation… to serve a pickle… If «they want too, some will(just because of personal taste… But«its not a «fixed item» on their antipasti tray:)) I also make homemade fresh(not canned» deli crock pickels», and they are not cheap to do. Have you ever«priced homegrown pickling cucumbers»…If you do, then you know«how costly’ it is to make them. The«time spent» doing the prep work, etc. Chopping all that garlic!, etc. So, why should they«throw it in???» You are paying for«good quality ethnic meats», not your«every day«big name brand store sliced lunchmeats:))

I loved this little market except for the service. The guys at the sandwich counter were not the nicest of people. However, they made a good sandwich and they had all sorts of fun ingredients to look around at. There is a very nice wine collection in the back. The sandwich is good — kind of overpriced, but worth a trip to see the market.

Oh, how I wish we were neighbors! My husband and I happened upon this place while on vaca and knew instantly — the minute I walked in the door, we struck gold! We ordered the #3 and the #7(The Godfather and Foxy Perfection) and they were probably the best sandwiches we’ve ever had! SOGOOD — that we swung in the next day and ordered the same thing so we could have it for dinner after our 5 hour drive home! Yes, it was THAT good! We will DEFINITELY be back! Great selection, friendly staff, lots of goods in the market that we should have purchased and brought home, too! Without question, this place gets 5 stars!

My husband and I were a bit hungry after our drive up to Traverse City but it was late in the day so we didn’t want to eat too much. Thanks to Unilocal,we found this adorable market. I honestly don’t know how we missed it in all the years we have traveled up to Traverse City. Based on the reviews here — and the fact that we both love Italian sandwiches — we decided to sit at one of the cute tables inside the store and split a Godfather sandwich. It was soooo good. I could have easily ate the entire sandwich myself. Was it a bit on the pricey side? Yes. But did the quality warrant it? You bet. Very friendly staff. I wish we would have had more time to look around. Also looked like they had a very impressive wine selection. We will be back next time we are in town!

I have been coming to eat sandwiches and procure rare grocery items at this place for almost 18 years. And I promise you there is no better place in this town to find a GREAT gourmet sandwich… period. The selection of fresh meats and cheeses in this place will take your breath away. My personal favorite is the Italian Gangster with salami and cappicola, on foccacia brushed with their to die for italian dressing. Add some smoked provolone to this if you are really feeling like going to cloud 9. In addition, their selection of wine is just unbelievable, not to be outdone by there selection of homemade pastas to pair it with. If you do not want to take my word about the quality of this place, look no further than the fact that Mario Batalli(iron chef) comes here to provision when he is in town spending time at this Lelenau county property. If your looking for good food/sanwiches, def go check it out!
