My son has been practicing with SBJ for years now and the club is a great! They’ve always been very good to us as a family and my wife recently started practicing with them as well! They have great outings for the whole family! There are a lot of children practicing at many different levels and sensei Ed and his cadre are very professional and cautious with the kids on and off the mat. In all of the years that my kid has been there he’s not had an injury other than the normal bumps and bruises that come with a full contact sport; that and sore muscles from the workout he gets because Ed and the other instructors believe in keeping them fit and preparing them for competition. Advancement is a question of self-motivation in the kids, but I’ve never heard anyone complain that the senseis were unfairly keeping anyone from testing(a very common complaint in many dojos). Sensei Ed and the instructors are very aware of the level of skill that each of their students is at and never set anyone up for failure! I would highly recommend that anyone considering starting their children up in a martial art give Judo a try and especially consider taking them to SBJ because their expert care for the kids and focus on self-improvement will transcend the dojo and bring about positive change in your child.

I started taking my boys the first class they offered back in 1999. Little that I would know that my kids became locol, reginal, state, national and international champions and international competitors after 13years. Not all the tournament turn out great but we made if a fun tournament. After the tournaments we’d shot to a resturant an invade them with all these crazed fun loving judo families. Strong teaching, hard practices, hard reviews but the Sensei’s show love after that. Parents need to remember they’re running their family and not the kids. Kid gets hurt, kid looks at mom or dad and then starts grying, That child is trainning parents to baby him and to strop judo. We the Sensei’s will incurage the parents to put them back on that horse.
