Pops Italian Beef & Sausage

Meh. Got 2 chili cheese dogs n fries. Pretty bad to be honest. Maybe should’ve stuck to the beef. The dogs were soggy and the ingredients sucked

Food is good. because it’s Portillos.service. horrendous. They had one man wait almost 40 minutes for his order. gave us Italian beef when we ordered Italian sausage… and all of the help behind the counter bickering and arguing with absolutely no direction. Disappointed

Man does this place hit the spot when you’re looking for something salty! Service is excellent too. Just wish it wasn’t so hard to drive to. It’s like you have to make a big circle before you get inside. Weird that you have to spend this much time looking for parking in the burbs.

Awesome place! Team member recommended the combo of beef with a dog and it was amazing! I’ll be back when in Chicago!

Pop’s is located near the Pace 386 bus stop to Midway CTA station. As I was waiting for the bus, I thought I’d grab a quick dinner at Pop’s. I opted for a gyro on pita, small fry (upgraded to seasoned fries for an additional 80 cents), and a small Oreo shake.
–The seasoned fries were crisped to perfection. I was once told by a Belgian native that potatoes should be fried twice, and the seasoned fries did not disappoint.
–The shake was good, with chunks of Oreo cookie. I could taste the Oreo cookie cream filling. –The gyro was brimming with slices of gyro meat, topped with ringlets of onions and tomato chunks, and slathered with tzatziki sauce.
Overall, it was well-​worth the ~$ 10 I paid for these three items. Large portion-​size, tasty food. They have weekday specials, but its the gyro that brought me in and will bring me back.

Pop’s is an ok spot for classic Chicago-​style fast food.
On my most recent visit, my Italian Beef was on the dry side (I ordered it lightly dipped) and just ok on flavor. Their house giardiniera is interesting. It includes fresh jalapenos (?!). It was not the most flavorful mixture, but hey they get points for making their own Giard.
The fries were ok, as were the fried mushrooms.
Nothing was bad, and the price was more than fair. But I would not go out of my way to return, nor would I recommend this place to people visiting my hometown.

I love the Gyro here! Tons of meat and it tastes great. The service is good and the prices are low! Great combo! The malts are really good too

In town for a wedding… looking for a quick bite, as we prepare. I ordered a gyro sandwich, and my husband ordered an italian beef sandwich. He wasn’t totally thrilled with his — he though the sandwich tasted ok, it was just a tad on the bland side. My gyro, however, was quite another story! Ok, so its small. That was the first thing I thought when I saw it. But, no no no. It’s plenty. I couldn’t even finish it. Such good flavor in the meat, and just the right amount of sauce, etc. Very satisfying! We shared the fries, which were also very tasty — and crispy, with just the right amount of salt.
I left Pops wishin’ that Pops would leave IL, for NJ!

The beef sandwich was delicious and the fries were perfectly crunchy with the right amount of salt. I would definitely eat here again. I will try the gyro next time! Seemed to be a popular item being ordered while I waited for my food.

When I placed a catering order, the worker had me pay upfront. When I went to pick the order up two days later, a 16yr old worker BERATED me in front of a packed Saturday lunch hour accusing me of lying and not paying. She yelled, rolled her eyes, and turned around to talk about me to the kitchen staff. When the manager confirmed I did, in fact, already pay for my order, I did not even receive the slightest apology from either. Go to the location on 159^th.

I’ve been converted. I’m here at least once a week. Love the fries. Love the gyros. Strawberry shake good too.

I was in the area for a work event and I was hungry and in a hurry (two of my least favorite states). I saw a sign for Pops and thought, «Mm. Probably sub par suburban greasy fast food.» Boy, was I wrong! And later I learned that Pops exists in multiple locations. Hooray!
Great service from the moment I walked in. I got an Italian beef sandwich with sweet peppers added. Great choice. Tons of meat and the meat was good.
I am in this area frequently and I will definitely stop by again in the future!

Good food! Clean restaurant! First time visit and I will be back. The good thing about this location, there is a seating area to eat your food.

Great Italian Beef! For my money it’s every bit as good as Portillo’s and a bit cheaper. Seemed like the sandwiches had a bit more beef, too. I had the regular beef with sweet peppers and a side of fries. They use a unique giardinera here – seemed to be either shaved bell peppers with a lot of red-​pepper flakes, or maybe shaved serranos or bright-​green jalapenos – either way it was very spicy – much more so than the pickled giardenera at Portillo’s. Would definitely recommend this place!

I find a Pops everytime I am in this area. Love there menu but my fav is Italian beef with the works double dipped. A must when your around one

Wasnt too impressed. Prefer the palos location, way better. Sent husband to get me a chicken ceasar salad and instead i got a side salad with over cooked chicken. Sticking with the palos.location.

Great little place. Clean and friendly environment. I would just say to those behind the counter be more enthusiastic when someone asks what’s good here. It probably doesn’t happen often, I don’t know but it’s always a good business practice especially with such a variety of great food.

Food is good but they recently took my favorite item off the menu. Without mini tacos my meal isn’t the same.

As I get older, I try to eat less meat. That being said, I was craving a good beef sandwich. So I popped into this location. I ordered a beef with red sauce and hot peppers. It was awesome. I absolutely love pops home made hot peppers. I also ordered a hotdog. Really good. The place is clean and the service was fast.

I’m changing my review to 5 stars. I don’t give out too many of those either. The hot dogs are the best I can find anywhere — even downtown Chicago. I still wish they had poppy seed buns, but aside from that, the hot dogs are great! Here’s a tip — order your hot dog «Chicago Style». You would think it comes like that automatically but it doesn’t.
