This is a very special place with great food and great service. We love to sit outside on the large deck and with a view of Smith Rock. Very high-quality food for reasonable price with their own unique flair on the dishes! Several years ago their service here was extremely slow but with the newest owners the last few years they have improved the entire dining experience! They care about the quality of our experience but most of all they care about each one of us who come to enjoy the fine dining experience.

Finally got the chance to try the depot yesterday. Had checked the reviews prior to going in. They were mixed with mostly happy campers so I went in with high hopes. Going in I took to account the establishment and some of the history. Cool place. Plain and simple with a natural feel to it. We were seated about two minutes after we arrived. One family were the only occupants and they were just there as well. Took a minute for our waitress to stop over and offer drinks. Great daily drink specials and the girls took advantage of weds which were mojitos, meh! Ok I guess. Mojitos are hit and miss per the mix. Great amount of rum though so alls good. We opted for three dishes to try out beings we always share to taste. First a putanesca pasta with shrimp that was a plate load of deliciousness, I’ve had several styles of the namesake dish and this one was pretty good, plump prawns and lots of capers made this a great entrée. Give this one a try, yummy. Girlfriend had the salmon with forbidden rice. Wow, not a lot of folks know what forbidden rice is. Deeper version of wild rice, with lots of chew and fiber. Good for you too. The salmon, well it can be hit or miss, this salmon was done well, good sear and nice glaze, neat combo. Warm and wholesome. I had the ribeye, yummy. Though not a thick cut steak it sufficed. Asked for med. rare, got medium. Still great, local beef I think so it had great taste and texture. Served along with tasty garlic mashed reds and grilled asparagus. I really dug the mash, perfect amount of garlic, cream and butter. Fresh asparagus perfectly grilled and tender. For a wash it down I had a couple of Boneyard ales. Crisp and piney. Made the meal go down well. So if your ever in the terrebonne area in central Oregon, give this place a stop by. I’m sure there is something on the menu that will satisfy a craving. Also saw a daily brûlée on the menu, next time, was full to the gills, and happy. A shout out to Brady our server. She rocks. She got the job done. We will be returning to get at those pork belly wraps I hear so much about, oh well next time.

We stopped here despite the poor reviews about service because I wanted to sit outside before heading back home. We were pleasantly surprised with the service as well as the food. I would definitely come back

I’m surprised The Terrebonne Depot has such a high average rating. I imagine most people who dine here only do once and happen to be there on a «good» day. We live down the street from the Depot, now. Before I moved so close, I would only visit the Depot a couple of times a year after a hike at Smith Rock-and had a nice experience each time. However, living so close has afforded me the opportunity to visit the Depot more often. If you’re looking for a quick(er) lunch or dinner and a friendly, welcoming staff, go elsewhere. The food is usually pretty damn good. We dine here about half a dozen times per year. Only twice have we been sorely disappointed with the actual food preparation. And on those visits the staff were extremely unapologetic about it. Like one reviewer said: as if we were an inconvenience to them instead of their source of income. Also, there is a high turnover rate with the staff. There always seems to be new servers/wait staff. The last time we were there they were supremely busy, and didn’t even have a host/hostess(maybe he/she called in sick that night!!!). The seemingly annoyed bartendress was trying to act as hostess. We still visit the Depot because their Farroh Pilaf is phenomenal!!! And sometimes I just really don’t feel like cooking, and, the food served here is of a higher degree culinarily, than The Pumphouse down the street(which is a superb place for a burger and beer, but their dining room sucks…). When we visit the Depot, we don’t plan to be in a hurry in any way-shape-or form. And we don’t look to make friends with the staff, we just try to be easy, quiet patrons and enjoy that the staff«leave us to our own devices.» If you are someone who easily gets offended by short-nerved, underfriendly staff-like I said, go somewhere else. On a side not: I once approached the Terrebonne Depot about supporting a non-profit organization I help with, having to do with children and sports. I spoke with an employee in person who took my info, smiled and said she would have the owner contact me. I followed up a week later with a phone call(had to leave a message). I never heard anything from them. Not even a «sorry, but no.» As a frequent patron, a «local,» if you will, whom continues to frequent their restaurant even when it’s apparent the staff are all on a short fuse, I was pretty bummed about that. But I can’t say I was surprised. Bottom line: go if you dare. Get the tomato soup. Pharaoh Pilaf is to die for. And the desserts are always delicious. 3 stars-for the food only. Negative stars for customer service.(Although I hope and pray that gets better… Cause we’ll continue to go.)

I occasionally get a beer here if I’m in the area at the right time of day. Great setting. But it smells like burnt grill grease– strongly– every time you walk in. I’ll usually just order beer– decent selection– but rarely eat there. Not awful, but not impressive. Service is another issue, or was today. Sat with a group for at least 10 minutes– in a largely deserted establishment– before anyone came and talked to us, and only after I had gotten up to enquire if someone could take our order. Waitress was very unfriendly; acted as if we were an annoyance rather than the source of her income. Never came back to check on us; had to get up AGAIN and ask for someone to take our order for a 2nd round. Probably will just continue to Redmond next time. There isn’t any excuse for service like this.

Nice stop on the way back from hiking Smith Rock. It was clean, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I had the South of Central Oregon Burger. It sounded just weird enough that I had to try it. I will go back again just for that burger! It was so flavorful!

My wife and I have been coming here since they opened and have always loved the food and atmosphere. I can honestly say that we will not be coming back. The last two times we have gone the service has been terrible to say the least. we waited for over an hour to get our food which I will admit was excellent as it always has been. the staff is so over whelmed that none of them look very happy. Our waitress was busting her butt and was just not able to keep up. Since the original owners sold the service has taken a huge nose dive. The new owners for the sake of saving a buck have turned a once great spot in Terrebonne into a disaster. Most of the people that were there tonight said they would not come back. it really is a shame as there are few and far between choices to eat in our small town and we really used to look forward to going there as a treat from a long work week. Sorry to say tonight was our lastnight.

This place was so darned cute, we had to stop, on our way out of Smith Rock. The atmosphere did not disappoint. Gorgeous cows out the window on one side, monster trains flying by the windows on the other. Food: mixed. The tomato basil soup was other-worldly! It is not to be missed. And I’m NOT the kinda dude that gets all sweaty over tomato soup, or any soup for that matter. The grilled cheese with it wasn’t half bad either. One son’s burger was decent but forgettable. My wife got the ahi poke with house made tortilla chips, that was pretty good. The chips and and salsa were better, in my opinion. I got the special. I so wish I hadn’t. It was described as a crêpe with smoked salmon, cream cheese and green onions. Sounded awesome and simple, and I adore smoked salmon. The actual plate had crepes swimming in oil, rolled around something I can only describe as warm canned salmon salad. Like tuna salad, except with canned salmon. I wanted to like it, but I couldn’t, because it was GROSS, y’all. It came with a fruit plate that had some seriously sad, half rotten fruit on it. Don’t serve strawberries after they start looking milky and purple in the fridge, yo. And ditch the mushy melon cubes in March. Eeew. Humm kombucha on tap was really nice. Service was slow, and the detour for lunch took us two hours, I kid you not. Don’t expect a quick stop. I had a nice experience with my family that day, but the food was hit or miss, in a big way. I’d go again, but I’d budget a lot of time, and I’d play it safer with the menu.

The pork belly and steak is so good! Mussel and salmon is OK. Just same as other mentioned, the service is very very slow… But still a good place to go in a far away town. Like the food not the service here!

The food was amazing but the service was pretty terrible. We had the steak sandwich and the fish tacos. Both were delicious and flavorful. However the fries tasted like frozen fries you get from the grocery store. The wait staff was nice but very inattentive. They were slow to take our order and our waters were never refilled. They were also quite slow to notice that we were finished and ready for the bill. Also, the bathrooms were pretty dirty and there are no changing tables.

This place is under new ownership, so we were excited to give it a try. The food was okay — the service was awful. We had rib-eyes which were okay, but the potatoes and veggies were cold. We didn’t bother asking our inept server to replace the cold sides, since we had somewhere to be. The kitchen needs to work on timing. Some of the younger members of the waitstaff need more training and familiarization with the menu.

I wanted to like this place being a climber n all. The service was bad. We ordered a chicken salad and a burger. It took close to an hour to get to us. They didnt bring the side of bbq sauce we asked for. No one came and got my empty appetizer dish the whole meal. My water wasnt refilled. I waited to see how long it would take but my gf asked for the water. I bet it never wouldve gotten refilled. Usually good servers come by and ask how we are doing. Nope, not once. I’ll be eating at Pumphouse from now on.

Overall very good. Flavors can get a little routine but some stand out. Pork lettuce wrap almost perfect, except for the strange minced lime-tough. Good beer on tap, nice open space. Tomato basil soup was very good. Toasted cheese was nice but didn’t bring you back for more– one note. Still, surprisingly good place overall.

Ridiculously good food: the fries are seasoned just right! Can’t go wrong with any choice, but the house cured pork belly PBLT and ahi tuna tacos are real #winners.

Please don’t even try to come here. It’s definitely not the way to finish off a good day at Smith Rock. We waited about an hour for our apps(ahi and fries). And then when we got our fries, they were honestly the most overcooked fries I’ve ever had. Basically inedible. And then my medium burger came very well done and dry. We also needed waters and napkins for quite a while. This all may sound dramatic, but it’s just the truth. If it’s super busy, just tell us. If the kitchen is behind, just tell us. But our server didn’t. Instead, we just got some cold attitude.

First time in. smell is simply amazing, so much so I went with a glass of red wine right away! SOREFRESHING, let me repeat that, SOREFRESHING to see a menue filled with such delightful options, no wonder it smells so awesome in here. its as comforting as slipping into an all natural hot springs. The ambiance is open, clean, light color wood, ceiling fans, lots of Windows creating an awareness you are in the High Desert. filters natural light filling the establishment very nicely with out need of artificial light… Did I mention this place is historic?! Built in 1911. if you know me, you know I love history, and this place is as pleasing to the eyes as is the smells coming from the kitchen is to the nose. :p

This seems so perfectly placed in the middle of Oregon. It’s a century-old former train station renovated into a charming little restaurant with an inviting patio where the waiting area once was(photo: ). I was having a «Big Chill”-type of weekend in Bend with old friends with whom I don’t get to see enough. I guess that would make me the Jeff Goldblum character except Jamie W. was with me and I don’t look much like JoBeth Williams. Anyhow, we just finished a leisurely hike at Smith Rock where the hot weather proved to be more challenging than the terrain. We were on our way out of the park when we stopped by for a bite here. Sitting on the side patio, we had a lovely view of the Three Sisters in the distance(photo: ). Their lunch menu was the typical mix of soups, salads and sandwiches with some interesting appetizers offered like the $ 11.50 Pork Belly Lettuce Wrap and the $ 11 Puget Sound Blue Mussels with Sea Salt(photo: ). The most popular item on the table was the $ 8.50 Greek Salad which looked particularly fresh and tasty with the $ 3.75 addition of Chicken(photo: ). Me? I ordered the $ 10PBLT, which was a hearty sandwich with house-cured pork belly, butter leaf lettuce and tomato housed in a thick ciabatta roll slathered with a mustard seed aioli that had a nice kick. I didn’t even bother replacing the obligatory fries with a salad(photo: ). Hey, I just finished a hike. So what if it was flat. Stop judging me. FOOD — 4 stars… the pork belly was cured which lent a mildly salty taste to a hearty sandwich AMBIANCE — 4 stars… it is gorgeous in these parts especially out on a patio on a clear day SERVICE — 3.5 stars… pretty friendly TOTAL — 4 stars… definitely the place to grab a bite near Smith Rock… choo, choo!

A couple more visits under my belt, and I still experience poor service every time. Really disappointing considering there are some really good things happening at the Depot. On my most recent visit, I enjoyed both the Flat Bread appetizer(fig jam, gruyère cheese, bacon and arugula, drizzled with a balsamic reduction) and Bourbonito(mojito with bourbon). Experience these in the shade of the back deck admiring the view of Smith Rock and life is good. The horseshoe pit out back by the train tracks is a fun, nostalgic touch. But, then things are never that simple… All the basic service matters required a request on our part, never something offered or anticipated by the server. We had to ask for utensils, water refills, the check, etc. For condiments, we just got up from the table to get those ourselves. Our table’s order was very basic, burgers and the flat bread, so no reason it should have been such a long wait for our food when the restaurant was only half full. And skip the fries which are blah, for the house made chips and salsa. Still convinced this is the best game in town, just wish a good experience took a little less effort on the customer’s part.
