Phenomenal food and service! A real gem in Terre Haute. I saw this restaurant on Unilocal as my father and I were driving cross country. Sometimes I am weary of a restaurant with 4 ½ stars and only a handful of reviews. If this was in a major city it would have hundreds of 4 and 5 star reviews. John our server didn’t miss any detail and constantly refilled all our sauces, drinks and ensured top tier service. He was one of the best servers I have ever dined with. Kudos to John!

Our server was great. He was very knowledgable and polite. However, I must say I’m highly disappointed in the new location. The servers wear T-shirts now which is indicative of the reduction of quality. The food was okay, nothing special. I ordered the 16oz strip and she had the duck. Both were great but not worth a staggering 80 dollars before any sides or drinks. The atmosphere was horrendous. When you first walk in you get a very nice vibe. Great mood lighting. But then you are lead down a hallway and walk through one of the server stations… Yes, you actually WALK inside a server station on your way to your table. Whoever designed this needs a serious lesson on ascetics. I don’t want to see my server making drinks and preparing things. Finally we reached our table and to our dismay the table was literally two feet away from the server station. And there was so much light. I was shocked. This was not at all what I expected. I felt like I was in a diner. Either J. Fords is shooting for a different demographic or is going through some rough growing pains. Either way I can’t recommend it at this time because that leaves it as simply overpriced. I’m not a stranger to fine dining, and this is far from it. It’s very sad considering the previous iteration of the restaurant. For reference our bill was $ 150. We ordered a NY strip, Duck, one cocktail, rice ball appetizer. Our sides were asparagus and fries.

In a cluttered world of franchise and cookie cutter restaurants it’s hard to find great restaurants, it’s even more difficult in a town like Terre Haute where etiquette and sophistication are are also hard to find. This restaurant had it all… class, style, ambiance, eclectic feel, accompanied with top notch service and a menu bound to please any and all palettes. The ribeye with bone marrow butter, French onion soup, and lobster corn dogs hit it out of the park. As a new business owner in this town I found my new favorite hot spot to dine and entertain guests.

Worth the $$$ every time. Eclectic specials make me want to go every night so I can try everything! Jeff definitely has the magic touch in the kitchen. On top of the amazing food, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable on the menu items and provide prompt service. He always has a good liquor selection as well. Call ahead to make sure you can get a table, they fill up fast on the weekends!

I thought the place was average at best and I don’t think the prices equaled the quality of the food. I don’t think a shrimp Alfredo should be $ 30 or a piece of fish $ 30. My companion had a dirty martini that had to be redone twice so I am guessing the bartender had no idea how to make one. The bread was good.

Absolutely delicious food. The creamy cauliflower soup was amazing to start. We both had Filet Mignon and it was perfectly cooked. Side items were quite large, definitely enough for 2. Not inexpensive by any means, but a very nice place.

This was a fantastic meal. I did try the Bone Marrow butter on my ribeye an it is absolutely amazing. Well worth the additional topping charge. Service and atmosphere was also nice. I always like to be surprised by hidden steakhouse gems in a small town when I travel. This is definitely one of those options. Price point was in comparison with a high end steak house in a large market. The only thing I would change is rolling in at least one side choice into the price of the steak. If I am in Terre Haute again it will surly be one that I repeat.

My boyfriend and I came to J Ford for a date night, and it was one of the most beautiful meals I’ve ever had. The dinner menu is so creative, making every other restaurant instantly look basic. Every item has an interesting twist. The shrimp toasts were juicy, flavorful and perfectly crispy. The butternut squash bisque was seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg, topped with whipped cream and bacon bits — a concoction of layers and layers of flavors. Sour dough bread was comforting, warm and had the perfect texture. For entrees, I had an order of pork belly, paired with spinach and shiitake mushroom. I cannot even explain how heavenly the pork belly was. I almost did not want to finish it. It was that good — red meat was tender and juicy, while the fat just melted effortlessly in my mouth. Truffle fries and bread pudding were scrumptious as well. Our waitress, Laura, offered some top-notch service. She is very friendly, fast and knows the menu well. I enjoyed the music, lighting and overall ambiance in the restaurant. It was an expensive meal, but worth every penny. If you have the budget, I highly recommend J Ford for any special occasions, or just a treat for yourself.

Had the lobster corn dogs, stuffed dates, filet mignon, steak tips(with phenomenal brown sauce!), asparagus, and Mac n’ cheese. Devine! Heaven may actually be in Terre Haute, Indiana. The honey sauce in the lobster corn dogs was a perfect compliment to the lobster. The goat cheese and the BBQ sauce were a perfect pairing with the bacon and date. Cut-with-a-fork filet that was perfectly juicy and flavorful. The Mac n’ cheese was baked and was flavorful and well done. Can’t say enough about the filet and the steak tips. That sauce! In town for work and will be coming here for a second day, no question about it. For dessert we had the chocolate decadence and the lemon créme brûlée. Both were delicious. The lemon was a great touch and the decadence was rich and fluffy. No complaints.

So… I’m in Terre Haute on business, have been to Stables and was looking for something new. Thought I’d check out the Black Angus. Great atmosphere, small and intimate… nice choice of music for the venue. The meal I ordered was traditional, French onion soup and a filet, with a side of Malbec. The caveat was the marrow butter, roasted garlic, and a fantastic bleu cheese spread for the baked bread. In technical terms… yummy I left completely in awe. Thanks to the chef and staff for a memorable dinner. Totally spontaneous stop as part of the day This is really a small steak house that cannot be overlooked. 4.5 Did I mention the filet melted in my mouth?

Easily one of the best restaurants in town. When I have out-of-town visitors, I always bring them here. The food and service are top-notch, and the atmosphere is relaxing. Cora is a fabulous bartender, and the Fords are kind and caring owners. Be sure to check this place out if you’re looking to have a wonderful evening. And look for their new location this fall. It’s sure to up the ante even more than they already have. My highest recommendation.

We did the road trip from Carmel to Terre Haute to give J. Ford Black Angus a try… and we were not disappointed. The salads were great(wedge with a killer homemade blue cheese) and we both opted for dinner specials: lightly battered Copper River salmon with a radish salad and the veal chop sitting upon a fried green tomato with a blackberry-balsamic glaze and if that was not enough, they put a goat cheese fritter on top. Talk about flavor overload! Those in TH who have not tried J Fords — you are missing out. I’m now looking forward to future visits to Terre Haute.

This is one of the best places in Terre Haute. I have eaten here on a couple of dates and at private events, and it never disappoints! The servers are typically very friendly. I usually order off the specials menu for the day. I’ve had some excellent lamb chops and veal marsala here. I recommend making a reservation to ensure you get to enjoy yourselves and your time here. I’ve been able to walk-in without one with no problem, but it’s a fairly small location so reservations always help!

Real crab in the crab cakes with a very nice sauce! I never had so many dips for bread that taste so good mixed together! My pork chop with the cranberries/blue cheese crust was mouth watering. The white chocolate/raspberry cheesecake had real chucks of chocolate in it! The dinning room was causal and elegant with a nice romantic feel. Busy so make reservations!

Excellent food and service. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu items. He also knew just about everything there is to know about the entire process of getting the meat from the farm to our plate. The lobster bisque was delicious and very fresh. We had filet and a new York strip, both were cooked a perfect medium rare with a side of bone marrow butter. If you’re in Terre haute and want great steak, this steak house is definitely the best choice.

I was visiting the area on business and our group decided to give J. Ford’s a try. What a great experience. We arrived without a reservation and sat at the bar for 10 minutes as they prepared the table. The Bar Tender was very pleasant and helped us with our selection of red wine. Upon being seated, the owner graciously introduced herself and welcomed us to the restaurant. Every step of the way, the waitress helped us with our appetizer, main order, and wine selection. First, I tried the Almond Breaded Brie. It was simply outstanding. The flavors just melted in my mouth. For the main course I tried the T-Bone Steak. The steak was thick cut and more that a meal for me. It was cooked just right. I really enjoyed this place and plan to return if I am in the area.

My sister and I made a bet. Winner would get a steak dinner. And I won, big time. So, she fulfilled the agreement by taking my wife and I to J. Ford’s. It was recommended as a fine place to eat. But, it far exceeded our expectations. Wasn’t sure if we were going to get Outback here, or if this was going to be similar to a Morton’s, Ruth’s, or Fleming’s. Well, it’s much more than any of these. The steak is fantastic, but the rest of the menu is what sets J. Ford’s apart. Despite the rather modest looking exterior, they’ve made the interior welcoming, warm, and practical. This is a small place, great for intimate dining. Raised on a farm where we produced our own beef is probably the reason why steakhouses never really impress me. Honestly, a really good steak isn’t that hard to do. Unfortunately, a really bad steak is easy to do as well. Anyway, the high end steakhouse has the clean, white tablecloth, lousy bread, mediocre salads, and the standard assortment of desserts and dry wines, and it’s all overlooked because the steak is supposed to be so good. And that’s never cut it for me. Not when I’m paying $ 100. J. Ford’s has a terrifically diverse menu with numerous specials, including appetizer entrees. We were treated to grouper cheeks, asian pork bites, seafood duo, and more items not to be found at the typical steak joint. And they were all terrific with the one common thread that each dish was ultra rich. But, I actually think the fifth star was earned by the broccoli stalk side. This is typically drenched in salt and butter and just ruined. Why? Cause it’s not fresh. Not at J. Ford’s. Just a freshly steamed stalk of broccoli simply served. Top notch. Further, the wine recommendation was just what we described, and the desserts were exceptional. J. Ford’s does a great steak, but executes the rest of the experience beyond the main entrée. This meal won me over and I’m a huge fan. It comes with a steep price, but I can’t think of a place where I’ve gotten as much for the same price. My strongest recommendation.
