Live in Tarrytown. Our monthly dining group(6) has been there three or more times. As a French bistro it’s underwhelming, overpriced and uninspired. Tried their pastries — not bad, but C-Town is better priced and they fly their pasties in daily from Europe & South America.

Bottom line is… the food is great. At the end of the day though… you gotta decide whether the glacial pace is worth it. Depends on your hunger level. ‘Cause the food is truly amazing(and it takes a lot for me to be wowed). Really delicious, French-bistro fare. Carefully cooked. So, so good. But you pay for it in your blood. If your blood was made of time. Because you wait… and wait… and wait. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t(want to sit around gnawing your arm off).

Greeted with an admonishment to eat quickly as most tables were reserved for later and it went downhill from there. Average, at best, food at very high prices, very small portions with uneven delivery.

I was so close to giving Chiboust a 5 star rating but I thought maybe I shouldn’t judge their greatness from one item. I was right. The almond croissant I had was one of the best I ever had. It had a ton of filling that was almondy and buttery without being too sweet. I’m usually not a fan of day old stuffed almond croissants but this one changed my mind. Unfortunately, they only make 4 a day, so good luck ever tasting one. The next time I went in they were sold out of the almond croissants so I got a regular croissant. What a massive disappointment. It was flaky and fresh but had the distinct flavor of movie theater popcorn.(Much like The Pastry Chef up the road) they aren’t using butter. They are using some sort if shortening that is butter flavored. How sad. Why they charge $ 3 for a butter flavored croissant, I cannot understand.

Let me just say that the food I had was stellar. I’ve gotten to the point where I sit down at a restaurant, and temper my expectations. I ordered the steak and fries, expecting some ok steak and typical fries. I was wrong! The hangar steak was absolutely wonderfully seasoned, and the fries were great(a blend of potato and sweet potato fries). I didn’t need salt or pepper with the steak; it was great as it came on the plate. The one thing holding it back from five-start status for me: the wait. Service here moves at a glacial pace, so beware.

Found a new favorite sunday brunch place in Westchester. It’s small, unassuming, best seats are by the window so you can see the Music Hall. This was our fare: Butternut Squash — I would say one of the better ones I have had, very rich, creamy and with a bit of spice, you can taste the nutmeg and ginger. We ordered this as a side dish though it’s not listed because we just had to have it. Poached Eggs on Croissant with Gravlax or Smoked Ham & Hollandaise — this was very good and the croissant very fresh Steamed Mussels, Tomato, White Wine — Garlic Broth, with Frites — lot of muscles for the price and the broth was great(ask for some bread or dip your frites into it), the frites two kinds so that was a nice surprise. All fresh and really delightful, will be back for sure. And our waiter Nick, was great, thanks for making the experience a pleasurable breeze!

I echo all the other favorable reviews – atmosphere, food, service, quality and quantity! I want to add that my waiter, last night, I think his name is Sebastian(sp?) dude with cool hair, was very knowledgeable about food and wine, sincere, on the ball and attentive, even tho the place was packed– a true testament to talented service. Mussels with sweet frites –mmmmmmm goood.

On Sept 14th we stopped at Chiboust for something quick to eat before the show in the Music Hall. When we entered the restaurant we had to wait almost 5 mins before some one will seat us. No we didn’t have a reservation, but make sure you do if the manager is tall with blonde hair. She asked if we had reservations and said no then she took the menus and threw them on the table and told us we can sit there. If we didn’t get the wonderful waitress we had and ordered a wonderful pizza, I would have left my food there. I would never hire a manager who doesn’t have any class.

This is a 4.5, they almost got it all right. It was only the iced tea that was, well, let’s say, ugh. Otherwise, everything was perfect. The service, the atmosphere, the food, and prices. I started with a delicious beet salad, it looked so perfect I hesitated to cut into it. My entrée was a flatbread pizza that was excellent. I can’t wait to hit this gem again. Had another nice dinner here with friends last week. I had a salad and small pizza, was great. I stuck with the coffee for dessert, it was delicious. Others had a cold cucumber avocado that was so awesome. Highly recommended. Everything we had was very good. The dessert tray was exceptional, fresh baked French pastries made by the owner. Nice.

Dish I recommend was the grits and the mushroom… that was some savory goodness I had the kale and shrimp salad… which was well dressed but the shrimp weren’t fresh(it had that medicinal bad flavor) no good … There pizzas are good… thin crust but the crispy type… Not chewy neopolitan but also very good… I liked their white pizza w anchovies and just a simple white pizza w garlic(you choose ur toppings) the lamb dish was mediocre… And the cheese platter was a fun sharing dish… the fries and sweet potato fry combo weren’t good… soggy as if they stayed on the window for a bit and got dry… wamp wamp… So if I would go back… id definitely get the mushroom grits!(you want it, I promise, get it!) service was pretty rough… A little crude and rushed, also uncertain and cold… not my kind of place and I am pretty easy going, open minded and forgiving… but Naaaah… they lacked that charisma… Oh well…

So we were up in Tarrytown visiting my brother-in-law who lives in this bedroomy community. Despite Tarrytown’s storied role in literary history(and my ensuing disappointment that the Headless Horseman was NOT a documentary — thanks, mainstream media) it has one hell of a lovely, modern walkable downtown with great views of the M-F traffic hellspawn known as the Tappan Zee Bridge and the Hudson River. We walked to Chiboust for a lunch, and I was a bit concerned that I wouldn’t look the part. Shorts and leather sandals make for a good dude-gladiator look but I saw the outside with its trendy-looking sign and thought I’d be a bit out of place. Fortunately, there’s a warm, dark-wood hipstery welcoming vibe to the place. The lunch crowd was 40somethings and older families, and the guy with Madras shorts and sneakers made me look fashionable by comparison. So you have a nice-looking place, but the service? Pretty good. The bartender ended up taking our orders, and while I wasn’t drinking that day, their craft beer selection looked like something that’d bring me back(Sixpoint Sweet Action cans, hell yeah!) and they had a full bar with amazing looking wines as well. I gotta say that my dish, home-cured gravlax with pickled lemons, crème freche, and arugula was a revelation in wonderful, light summery fare that was still filling. The owner is a baker and it shows in the croissant. The pastries for dessert? Freaking AMAZING. We had an almond and chocolate chip pastry, and they were still warm in the middle. The salad served with my meal was a wonderful spring mix with just enough vinaigrette to be interesting and some anise tossed with it for flavor. My wife had a really nice griled shrimp salad, my BIL had a hangar steak sandwich that he really liked, and my SIL had wonderful moules frites. Their frites are done RIGHT — and they gave her half and half normal fries and sweet potato fries. Variety, man! Plus it was a wonderful bargain in terms of what you get and its quality for the price. My awesome sandwich was about $ 14. I wish Chiboust was closer to me in Jersey. Seriously, this is a wonderful asset to the neighborhood.

I was visiting with family in Tarrytown this past weekend and so we found ourselves at Chiboust. It was my first time here. We first shared a kale salad. It was ok… nothing phenomenal. The pork chop in red wine sauce with pureed sweet potato and asparagus was awesome! The chop was perfectly cooked, and moist(not dry like a pork chop often can be). The sweet potato purée and asparagus were perfectly flavored and cooked. The wine I got was also good. Wie did n’t stay for dessert, but I liked the small intimate neighborhood restaurant vibe, and the quality of the food., Would definitely recommend.

If you like bad service and mediocre food this place is for you. We arrived at six oclock on a saturday before an eight oclock show. The rest was high comedy after a half hour we got our drinks the bread basket never made an appearance. A half hour later our waitress asked if we would like to see the desert menu. I replied i usually like to get my entrees first. It got worse from there frankly who knows what the food tasted like by time i got it around 7.45 i didnt care. This was my second try here wont be a third. Just terribly arrogant and poor customer service from owner on down

Before you«skim» through this review, please read the last bunch of sentences at the end. It’s important to know what you’re getting here before you consider it as a dining option… The restaurant had a fairly typical bistro décor with exposed brick walls and low candle-lit ambience. Nice date place if you’re fine with some level of noise. My wife and i were having a light Sunday evening dinner so we shared an appetizer and a main and decided to each get a dessert. Note that Chiboust used to be a bakery and was well-known for desserts so we wanted to «leave room» for it. We each had a glass of Cabernet. the restaurant was out of the one on the menu we wanted but had a substitute that was actually quite good. Instead of ordering one of the menu appetizers, we decided to share one of the scrumptious sounding pizzas that were listed among the entrees. We ordered a merguez pizza(African sausage) with feta and asiago cheeses, red peppers, and tomatoes on a very thin crust. WOW was it good! Then we shared the mkt fish(branzino) served over navy beans and kale. Again, very good. The fish was prepared simply with slightly charred skin that gave some crispness to the texture. When we were ready for dessert, the waitress brought a dessert tray(I always prefer to see dessert before ordering it… so a good thing!). We ordered a lemon mousse with white chocolate shavings and a blueberry/raspberry crumb cake. The mousse was light and the sweetness of the choc was a nice offset to the lemon… highly recommend this. The crumb cake was a bit dry and was chilled. I think it would have been better served at room temp. We also each had a cup of coffee with a refill. I was very surprised to get the check and see that I was CHARGEDFORTHE2REFILLS! When I mentioned how surprising this was. and how it departs from«convention» the waitress simply agreed and apologized for the owner’s policy. I suggested that she inform the patron before serving a refill since it’s really a departure from a fine dining experience. The prices were not inexpensive… the branzino was $ 27 and the small pizza was $ 15. Wine was $ 12 per glass. Overall, the food was better than average though there are lots of good choices in the rivertowns area so i would not dine there again. they lost me by gouging on a simple«cup» of coffee. SKIP this place and head to Sweetgrass right down the block!

I see there are a lot of naysayers who hate this place, but I have to chime in –on the PASTRIESALONE. Everything in the sweet counter is divine! The tarts, the breakfast pastries, arguably THEBESTCROISSANTS in Westchester County. The fruit crumb tart is to-die-for. Nestled in the quaint, charming town of Tarrytown, I love this place. I will report back after we sit down and have a meal, but for now, I am in love with the sweets here!

I came here originally for brunch but their bakery is open at 10am on Sunday so I had a take out instead. Despite the fancy looking display, their baked goods are so-so… and cakes microwaved right behind the counter… Oh, and this place is pricey! $ 5 for a blueberry crumb tart! service is good though, but this is only a 3 star IMHO, compared to, say, SONO Baking company.
