The food is fresh, tasty and MSG free. Takeout takes less than 10 minutes. I find the older man who is the server and teller to be hilarious, but I could see how he can come off harsh to some. Chop it up to cultural differences. Best Teriyaki, Gyoza and Sushi in town!

Great value for the price. Everything was big and fresh. We had gyoza and 3 sushi rolls. Hubby had a combination plate while I had ramen. Both the meals were around $ 9 and were large. Rolls were large too. Bill total was $ 50 before tip with 1 soft drink. The inside was clean, but small and loud with only 3 tables seated. I do recommend taking it to go, and we did find the gentleman running the customer service side a bit rude– I’m not a fan of having someone yell«you ready to order» across the room. Service was quick, though. That’s why I’m only giving 4 stars.

The food was pretty good. Ordered a chicken donburri bowl and a Udong soup. Unfortunately the Udong soup came with an unwanted surprise(picture included). Donburri bowl was actually delicious. Check your bill afterwards here. They charged more than the menu price listed which is not as huge of a deal as leaving a piece of plastic wrap inside the soup(which they did). When my husband wanted to be nice and simply point it out so they could avoid it in the future, the male owner/attendant ignored us and acted so terribly rude. As good as the food is, it isn’t worth it to encounter such terrible service.

Food is pretty descent. What irks me is the gentleman who waits on you. He may be the owner but he is a dick head. Case in point: the is empty except for an occupied table. I want to sit on a booth but I was told I could not. What? It’s not like people were lining up to get in. And if need be I would have moves as I get the business side. Thus guy needs to lighten up

I’m only giving it any stars because the food deserves some recognition. However, the service is TERRIBLE!!! I’ve been frequenting this place for almost a year because I live right down the street. Their sushi and egg rolls keep my boyfriend and I coming back. The last few times we have gone it’s been nothing but issues. A couple weeks ago I called my order in ahead of time, like I always do, and the guy told me it would take about 20 minutes. So, I show up in 20 minutes then he tells me 10 more minutes… so 45 min total later I ask if the order is going to be ready any time soon since I have other plans for the day, and he acts shocked that I have anywhere else to go… so finally after an hour I get my food and we get home, open the boxes… and it’s not even the correct order! I called back and had my bf go pick up what we correctly ordered, and the guy had the nerve to tell my bf that me asking when the order would be done made them feel«rushed» and messed them up. No apologies. Just blamed it on me. I tried to give them another chance today, and once again I waited way longer than the time they gave me, and they didn’t even send the right sauce for the egg rolls and the guy is more than unfriendly at this point. We won’t be going back.

The four stars are strictly for the food it is AMAZING! The Monkey brain app is delicious and the Boss roll so fresh and tasty. If you want to dine in on a night where an older man(always wearing a purple turtleneck) is working i would suggest getting it to go!!! Trust me he is just horrible so rude and slow basically ignores you for the first 10 to 15 minutes. He doesnt even have common sense to bring over waters and menus while you sit and wait on him. But don’t go get the menus yourself he will get mad. If he is the owner he really needs to let the other employees work for him ALL the time he ruins the experience.

I was given a menu and on the front of it said buy 2 rolls get 1 free from 2:30−5. I went to order and waiter said that doesn’t apply here? Really, why would you even give this menu to your customers??? The bathroom was filthy too

The worst service possible. They don’t have a waiter nor waitress. Owner is the waiter, cashier, cleaner and host. So you will wait 15 mins to be seated, 20 mins to get the menu, 20 mins to order and 25 mins to receive your food. He didn’t even let us change our table because he said«I’m busy». Do not waste your time and money to go there.

That was the worst teriyaki I have ever had! Way to much sauce and not enough chicken. The gyoza was over cooked as well as the salmon teriyaki. Never again! Fujia’s is still ichi ban!

High Quality fish for sushi. Teriyaki and noodle dishes are outstanding. Please get rid of the Styrofoam to go packs.

I went to Flying Fish for the first time yesterday with a friend. The woman who served us was very kind and friendly. The sushi was also delicious! I suggest the Volcano roll and the Tacoma roll!

I had a great lunch here today, staff was friendly and the service was prompt. I ate the California Roll and White Christmas Roll, both fresh and tasty. One problem… The hallway to the bathroom, the curtain that covered the door, the bathroom door(inside and out) handle area looked like it had not been cleaned since they moved in. Gross!

So I was in the tacoma area and one of my employees told me try this place out for a quick lunch. I got the chicken yakisoba and it was awesome. Nice huge portion with fresh vegtables and not to mention mushrooms. It was cooked perfect and the yakisoba sauce was perfect. The décor inside was perfect and they even had a little room where you take off your shoes and do hotpot. Will be back!

1. Expensive. For the same price you can get something better at other place. 2. Unprofessional customer service. The Korean man works there(whom I think is also the owner) is not very good what he does. 3. Sushi and appetizer are delicious. If you come here to only have chicken teriyaki, yakisoba, or general menu where every teriyaki restaurant has, I don’t recommend this place. But you gotta try out their sushi and appetizer and small entries.

Really good sushi and lo-and-behold I just found out they’ve had ramen on their menu the whole time and I’ve missed it. Not anymore! Teriyaki is pretty good too, not really better than anywhere else, but they have a salmon option which most places don’t. They also serve beer and wine. My kids love this place– they especially like the California rolls and the chicken teriyaki. One order will feed two of them with leftovers.

Ok so lets start by saying the owner, at least I think its the owner, isn’t exactly the best greeter and not personable at all! I have been in multiple times, sometimes multiple days in a row and the owner still didn’t remember be or if he did he chose not to acknowledge that I had been in multiple times! But you know I can get past that because the food is really good! I have had many of the rolls here and I must say they have all been pretty good. This particular time I went(the pictures I posted) I had gone with the mars roll and ram y un soup. The one thing I like about Flying Fish is how tight the rolls are and how fresh the fish is. I would say I am an avid sushi eater, from making my own to trying multiple different sushi places. I have had many rolls that the roll does no stay together and by the time you are done with your roll, you have half the rice in your shoyu tray! So its nice to have a place that can keep their roll together. Nothing is ever going to compare to fresh ahi caught and fileted right there on the spot but I would say this place is as close to fresh as possible. Mars roll has tuna on it and am a big fan! I have also tried the white Christmas roll, which features white tuna; must say I am a big fan. In fact I usually get that roll every time I go in. Finally, for all you ramen lovers out there, the ram y un soup is really good! Growing up on the Hawaiian dish saimen, this spicy ramen hits home. It includes chicken, pork, steak, and veggies in the soup. The added the ingredients, instead of just ramen and broth, takes this dish over the top. I do not know if they use their own broth but in my opinion the broth is what makes a soup and theirs is amazing! it has a perfect spice to it! So besides the pushy owner and him not remembering anyone that comes in, the food is amazing! Definitely well worth your money! Highly recommended!

Love everything about the place but the owners pushy attitude. I don’t say much but enough is enough. I would easily give this place a 5 if it wasn’t for him. Not a very kid friendly or human friendly atmosphere. Your best bet is to just call orders in as there’s a capacity for roughly ONE!

My husband and I battled the rain and decided to do a mini celebration on the day he proposed to me(we are so gushy). Anywho, after being turned away from my favorite spot(he had no rice ready) we drove all the way to Tacoma for sushi. Well well, we could have went to H-Mart and went back home and made our own. i ordered the spicy tuna handr oll. My husband got the salmon hand roll and we shared the veggie tempura, Vegas roll and the Ruby roll. All looked good on paper but not so much in the mouth. My husband was already not happy because he asked for a side of eel sauce and the owner said no that is not how you eat it and we put it on top of the roll. I knew at that moment, my husband was not going to really like much. The hand rolls were tasty but the sushi rolls were just ok. I am not a fan of eel sauce so the Vegas Roll was way too sweet. The ruby roll just didn’t do it for me either. The tempura was decent but not enough to make me go back. The owner is a little pushy and I can see where after a while he is a little much. I mean how can you tell us that we should hurry up and eat our hand roll before our sushi roll? Isn’t that our business? Oh and he charged us an extra $ 1 for my husband’s eel sauce. Tsk tsk.

How can u tell me how 2 eat sushi or wat order I should eat it as a customer, when ur sushi isn’t even traditional 2 begin with? I wanted a side of unagi(eel) sauce n the owner who took our order said, «No, No, No, this is on top of sushi, ur roll that will come». yes, I know it is on top, but I want a side as well! Sushi 101: real sushi is simple w/out all these sauces as mentioned by Real Japanese Sushi Chef Kazu of Sushi Kuine over in Kent(I cite him as source). As he mentioned by flipping thru a fancy sushi picture calendar that was full of sauced-out non-traditional rolls, he said, «u c all these sauces on top of sushi, all these avocados, imitation crab. all these r Korean style!» I bust out laughing each time I think about it! Simply, real sushi is enjoyed by simply rubbing in wasabi in2 ur sushi n having a slice of fresh fish on top of it. Just simple. Plain simple. But when I want non-traditional, I can too, but don’t tell me how 2 eat it b/c it is already non-traditional 2 start out with! So, getting in2 the review. my wife n I shared a large hot sake, veggie tempura, Vegas Roll, Ruby Roll n we each had a hand roll(I had the salmon n she had a spicy tuna one) b4 the rolls came, the owner was like, «u have 2 eat all the appetizers b4 the rolls come!» oooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!! The hot sake was good, warmed up the soul, was 1 of the few bright spots. The veggie tempura was horrible; I did not like how it tasted; it tasted 2 fried n not enough lightness as real tempura is n the pieces of vegetables were dry n just a small cup of tempura dip came w/it. lo good(no good, Chinese accent). The hand roll was the best thing that came, fresh n simple goodness n yes, I dipped in unagi sauce. come get me!.. the Vegas roll didn’t have much in it, just str8 sauce, a little imitation crab, can’t even taste any meat or filling; meh!.. the Ruby Roll was decent, but if the fish wasn’t so chewy, it would have been good. It would have been a «2», but the owner is pretty entertaining, so I give them a «3»! positives that I took out of this place r:(1) the hand rolls,(2) hot sake,(3) owner n(4) the piece of cookies n cream kiss

Terrible Service. Went to this restaurant with my mom, and seven year old daughter. After waiting 15 minutes to order, we were asked to take our order to go(which wasn’t our intention), because we only ordered a 14.99 bento box. He told us we were taking up too much space at the table of 4, because he could potentially make more money by seating people that were not sharing.
