Their oily food would make me feel so nasty after eating here. Not bad for the price though.

This place is closed as of 4÷5÷2012 I went there with a buddy today and it was closed. It’s being replaced by a Greek restaurant.

The buffet has a variety of food on the weekends. I recommend going on the weekends so you can get the most food for your money. There was lots of seafood, sushi and fruit. They have a small(tiny) Mongolian BBQ station and there is not much meat either. There is quick clean up service which is a big bonus. I hate eating at buffets and the dirty plates are left at my table for the entire meal. At Sunny Buffet, the staff is quick to pick up dirty dishes and refill drinks. Tasty buffet for an OK price. All you can eat on Saturdays and Sunday for $ 13.00.

I came here for lunch with some coworkers and it was a pleasant surprise. It’s right off 237 on Ross Dr. It’s your typical Chinese buffet with fare you would expect at any other Chinese buffet. The selection is a bit smaller than some other places like Crazy Buffet but it’s cheaper as well. Lunch ended up being about $ 10/person which isn’t bad. They have a few sushi rolls and a Mongolian bbq section where you can ask them to cook up your noodles. Dessert consisted of a soft serve machine and some bland pastries. The only gripe I have is that both times I’ve been here, I’ve yet to get a refill on my diet coke. However, I wouldn’t hesitate coming back to get my greasy Chinese food fix at lunch time. Probably wouldn’t drive out of the way just to come here if I was in San Jose, though.

Still on a quest for an awesome chinese buffet around here. Tried Sunny Buffet today as it got a lot of reviews of being mediocre and Americanized(my 2 requirements haha!). It was pretty small with very limited selections, especially for vegetarians. Nonetheless I had 2 full plates of food. Noodles, rice, spring rolls, and string beans were all tasty. Service was polite and prompt, price was reasonable. All the families dining in there for lunch this afternoon seemed to be enjoying themselves. Things I took off 2 stars for: Plates are pretty tiny which bummed me out, but not the end of the world. There were no sugar donuts which is pretty much why I go to Chinese buffets, so that was a bummer, too. And the biggest negative of all is there are no labels! It was a fun guessing game for us to figure out what we were looking at and what might be inside the fried coatings. Please have some sort of labels! I’d go back for a craving, it was very adequate.

I thought that a three star rating might be at least decent… well, i was mistaken… YUK!!! The hot and sour soup must have been made with the leftover dish water. it was nasty! As for the rest of the food, it was mediocre at best. everything had minimal flavor. This was a waste of thirteen dollars for sure. I’ll not be back… wish Cattlemans was still here! I went to Wendy’s to top off with some fries and a frosty

2.5STARS I’ve been to Sunny Buffet two times for lunch now and each time, ironically, was exactly the same. Sushi selection was decent for a Chinese buffet and Mongolian BBQ only had chicken and shrimp as the protein with a very small selection of veggies and noodles. The remaining items like soups, pot stickers, bbq pork, teriyaki chicken, walnut shrimp, and other Chinese mainstays… were not bad. They do a decent job bussing your plates out but I didn’t get a refill offered to me once for my Coke. This place falls a bit short of Crazy Buffet in Sunnyvale as I think the food is about the same but the service and the décor are a notch above Sunny Buffet.

Hm… Maybe it was just me, but unlike many of the other Unilocalers, I didn’t notice the emphasis on seafood. I wouldn’t consider this to be a seafood buffet by a long shot. I was actually kind of happy with the selection… tons of greens, fried noodles with your choice of toppings, sushi, those sweet prawn things… Unfortunately, everything – and I mean everything – was too soggy, too overcooked, too salty, or too oily. Sigh. I couldn’t even finish eating the red bean buns that I was so excited about, because the bottoms were rock hard… stale leftovers from yesterday, I presume?

I haven’t been to a buffet style anything in millenniums, OK a few decades. In the west coast, we’re very specific about our ethnic food, so much so that we’ve become region-snobs… We’re eating Vietnamese; what type? Phở. North or South? North. Hanoi or Sa Pa? Sa Pa… heretic!!. Just kidding. Sa Pa Phở is good. Back to my original train of thought… this was for a quick lunch and we wanted Asian(really? from Turkey to Hokkaido is Asia, what type? Oh stop it) and wanted friends working in Palo Alto or Menlo and friends working in Santa Clara to meet at a geographically convenient place. So, why not at the cross roads of 237 and 101? Uhhmm, it looked from the outside like some 1970’s style eatery, and once inside it was like a 1970s style eatery. There were a number of tables and booths. It was mostly Chinese food, with a sushi table and a Mongolian grill at a corner. Lots of food under heat lamps in about 3 or 4 rows of food trays. The food wasn’t really all that bad. I had some stir fried egg plants, some fried shrimps, steamed vegetables, heaps of rice, thinly sliced beef, sauteed mushrooms… repeat at least twice for more. One word about this place: Volume. I should have not eaten for two days, because you do eat a lot. It was a big mistake to eat this much during lunch because once back at work, you will start to nod in front of your computer.

My family and I were pleasantly surprised by Sunny Buffet. Coming off the freeway we see a dingy, small rundown restaurant and we were all sure that the food was going to taste terrible and we were all going to have to fight for the one bathroom in our house tonight. But we should not have judged a book by its cover because the inside it a totally different story. The décor was a complete contrast from the exterior and it was clean, including the bathrooms. Onto the most important part — THEFOOD. The sushi selection is small and there is a teenager making the simple rolls but it is much better than sushi I have tried at other sushi buffets. The rice was fresh and the fish was not frozen solid. The Chinese food was not special, just average but the American muchies was tasty. Sunny Buffet has their interpretation of a cheese steak. Bread is replaced by a pastry exterior. The short ribs were great(only the hot and fresh batches) and my favorite thing was the dumpling sauce. Don’t expect a Las Vegas buffet when you come here but there is a nice selection and variety for the price. Also, there is a 10% coupon off your entire bill that you can find in the newspaper. What I recommend: Short Ribs

I was in a Seafood mood so I rolled my Work Whip to Sunny Buffet for all you can eat Dungeoness Crab, Oysters, Honey Walnut Prawns . I arrived right at the Dinner Transition so everything was fresh. I hit the BBQ Ribs, Crab, Roast Duck, Fried Shrimp, Sushi, Generals Chicken. I got my Grub on Yo!!! The Crab was so good that the Meat was Sweet tasting Yummy !!! I ended it with Soft Serve Ice Cream and Almond Cookies. Then rolled away to Biggie Smalls in the Work whip.

My favorite thing to get here is the string beans. No kidding. They never disappoint. Expect everything else to be mediocre. Actually, the soft serve is OK, too. And the fruit when it’s fresh. Steamed fish is not bad. Skip the sushi, the custom stir-fry noodles and steak tend to be too greasy, the dim sum is usually overcooked, the shellfish never has good texture, and the American food is just really out of place. We regularly come here for our awards ceremonies because it’s close and easy. It works GREAT for large groups, especially when you’re eating for the company, not for the culinary experience.

I went to Sunny Buffet last weekend with my family for my niece and nephew’s birthdays. Since we drove 40 minutes from SF, I expected to be blown away. I was met with this dingy shack. However, don’t be discouraged, it does get better as you enter. The interior is definitely more appealing to the eyes. We arrived at 11:30am and it was practically empty.(The crowd did start to trickle in and it was moderately packed by the time we left.) At first glance, the buffet looks small, but it’s not! I made three rounds and found new things to try each time. They have a good variety of food. There’s pizza, garlic bread, salads, different kinds of seafood, Chinese food, fried foods, sushi, a noodle bar, soups, and a nice selection of fruits and desserts(there’s a soft-serve ice cream machine!). Their sushi selection is embarrassing though. They had random pieces of rolls laying around with no indication as to what they were. I asked for sashimi and the man behind the counter cut me extremely thin slices. I believe thinner slices = more surface area = more room for bacterial growth. Seriously though, who cuts sashimi that thin? I said sashimi, not carpaccio! I’m just glad I didn’t get sick! They also have honey walnut shrimp(without walnuts), which I’ve never seen at a buffet before. Oh! They also have fried frog legs, if you’re into that kind of stuff. Honestly, if I hadn’t had to drive so far, this would be a four star review because the food is decent for the price. They also have fairly clean restrooms.

So, this Sunny Buffet boasts«All You Can Eat Chinese-American-Japanese Food,» according to their ValPak coupon. My mom and I, who love dives, decided to check it out. And boy did it look divey, connected to the Sundowner Inn in Sunnyvale. Kinda reminded us of a Reno casino. So the breakdown of the types of food went like this: AMERICAN: pizza, quesadillas, garlic bread JAPANESE: sushi CHINESE: everything else. But surprisingly? It wasn’t bad. The food tasted freshly prepared(we went about ½ hour after opening). The fare seemed pretty on par with any other steamplate Chinese food restaurant. The service was nonexistent — we got one cup of coffee and no refills. I don’t usually like buffets because I feel like I don’t get my money’s worth, but I feel like I did here. You can take that however you want.

I have no idea why this place is rated so high on Unilocal.I decided to go here for dinner after reading the positive Unilocal reviews and it was by far the worst buffet experience I had. I’m okay with buffet style food since most of the owners concentrate on the quantity rather than the quality but seriously sometimes the food needs to be edible too. Most of the food here are Asian food but they had pizza, corn, and garlic bread, but none of them tasted close to decent. Pros: Cheap price(Dinner is around $ 12) Cons: Food was TERRIBLE! — Sushi was old and NOSASHIMI!(When asked for some this old lady gave me 4 thinly sliced Sashimi and that was it. She didn’t even bother to put more out) — Miso Soup was bland — Baked Crab was cold — Even the fruits was old Atmosphere was dead — The outside looked like an abandoned building — The inside looked okay but the carpet just looked old Service was horrible — Two waiters stood directly behind me talking to each other and staring at my table — The lady who made the Sushi was not attentive at all Maybe I went on a bad day who knows but honestly it is by far the worst buffet. If you don’t believe me try it for yourself and see how terrible it is =D.

For lunch, the food are alright for $ 8 before tax n tips. Maybe it’s grand opening, so they have a couple nicer stuff like strawberry and papaya. Lunch time, they only have sushi rolls. They were not really good, and the fish was paper thin. There are many chinese food to choose from. Nothing wow, but can’t expect much as it’s buffet afterall.

I really don’t know how this place got 3 stars. It’s probably the worst buffet that I’ve ever encountered. Everything was disgusting. The food looked like no one had touched it for a while and it was dried up and UGH! The sushi looked TERRIBLE. I mean come on people. its raw sushi… It’s going to look awful after sitting out for so long. At least put fresh sushi out for the customers. The restaurant itself looks rundown and their poor renovation attempts didn’t help either. The staff is pretty nice and they always come around and ask if everything is OK. nice service doesn’t make up for terrible food. I’m sorry, never coming back to this place.

So as many of you know, the love and myself don’t really have high standards when it comes to food. I mean give us something greasy, big, and cheap and were just two happy little clams :) So with that being said we really liked sunny buffet, lets put it this way. i was so full i thought i was leaving with a little sunny buffet baby with how pooched my stomach was! But the food was something like panda express, with sushi, pizza, garlic bread, and a fruit/jello/pudding bar. All you can eat =) for the two of us and one soft drink it was $ 27. Which i thought was expensive because i am extremely frugal but i mean i’m sure i ate much more than the dinner was worth! haha. 4 stars because the two waiters just stand there watching you waiting for you to leave! and while we were starring into eachothers eyes during dinner(haha!) they came and SLAMMED the bill on the table with two nasty fortune cookies, like hello! ruining the sparks here. its our date night!!! But us being the stubborn asses we are. we just stayed till we were done… muahaha. but seriously no one likes being rushed during dinner so 4 stars for that. maybe even 3 but i’m not feeling mean… so 4 stars :)

I tagged along with 7 of my coworkers to eat lunch here. One of my coworkers knew where all the buffets were around our work so he’s the go-to guy for eating out. The exterior of this place looked run down and I think it used to be something else. I guess there was no budget for renovations. The food here was okay but good for the price you pay for lunch which was $ 7.99. There were sushi, seafood, egg rolls, and pretty much a range of different Chinese dishes. One of my other coworkers said that we were cleaning house of their food. I’d have to agree because there weren’t a lot of food out during my first round. Round two came and everything was filled up. There were a bunch of people here but it was before noon so it wasn’t packed. Lunch buffet: 10:30am to 4pm — $ 7.99 per person Dinner buffet: 4pm to 10pm — $ 11.99 per person Sunday, Saturday, and holidays: 10:30am to 10pm — $ 11.99 per person all day

I’m not sure if it’s a tradition, but it seems that Asians like to eat out on the holidays. That’s how I found myself at Sunny Buffet during the holidays. Sunny Buffet appears to be relatively new(a Grand Opening sign was still prominently displayed) and is run by Chinese management. While affordable, Sunny continues the disappointing trend of mediocre quality buffets in the Bay Area. I’m actually somewhat of a fan of buffets. As a youngster, I loved the quantity, but as I’ve grown older, stuffing myself to the max is less a goal than avoiding heart burn. So why the continued fondness for buffets? 1) the value 2) the variety. I’d say there are three places where I consider buffets to be superb. They are: * Las Vegas — the Bellagio buffet is probably the best followed closely by the Wynn. * Asia — the Westin buffet in Shanghai remains the top buffet I have ever been to. Hand made noodles, baby roasted suckling pig, sashimi galore, fresh seafood and more. * Vancouver — the Japanese sushi buffets are all made to order and fresh. My first experiences with lobster sashimi was here. Sadly, Sunny Buffet was nowhere near any of these top choices. The bargain price of $ 12.99 may have been one reason, but beyond that, I found the food quality poor, the selection mediocre, and the experience forgettable. The crab legs weren’t fresh, the seafood consisted mainly of cheap crawfish, and the bins were often half-empty. There was no lobster, fresh shrimp, or «real» sushi.(just curiously colored sushi rolls that didn’t taste fresh) The«good» items were the honey walnut prawns, fried rice, hot and sour soup, and the steamed fish. But by «good,» I mean only really Panda Express quality. Also, there was a slab of prime rib like meat, but it looked cold and overdone. I decided not to partake and my passing up says volumes. Drinks cost extra, although ice water does not. Tea does cost money though. For a Bay Area buffet, I’d still consider this to be among the bottom barrel. California Buffet and Moonstar are both considerably better and even a specialty buffet like Palace BBQ offers better value despite the higher prices. Credit cards are accepted, though not Amex.
