Unfortunately, this place has closed. I haven’t been to the new restaurant that took over it, so currently have no review yet. Stay tuned…

Chocolate Sushi is hands down my favorite sushi joint. The ambience is dark and modern, with music that is always up to date. Their cooked rolls are to die for and I have yet to find any other place(even ones with higher ratings) to make it close to being this good. I only eat cooked sushi so bare with me. The Dragon roll(unagi) and the Lion King roll(salmon) are my favorite! Not only that, their portions for the bento boxes are pretty good and they taste great(contains this green pasta that is smothered in olive oil that I cannot get enough of!). Although their service may be slow sometimes, their rolls will blow you away. Not to mention that when you order something from their Korean menu, you’ll get a bunch of side dishes and these Korean noodles that tastes DELISH; the waitress is usually kind enough to refill if you ask :). AND30% off entire bill :)

My two friends and I came in for the unlimited sushi dealio as a weekday lunch. I was aware of the small selection of sushi on this menu, but it was alright I guess. I ended up getting the Red Dragon roll twice, as I was a fan of tempura. The waitress was nice and patient, but was always running around or not seen at all most of the time. It took a while to flag her down. As with another reviewer, I dig the literal«hole in the wall» sink in their tidy bathroom. Most likely won’t be revisiting any time soon.

I love chocolate and I love sushi, so where’s the chocolate sushi? Chocolate sushi does indeed have chocolate sushi! It’s not listed in the menu and I have not tried it personally, but I heard it’s just sushi drizzled with some chocolate syrup? Haha doesn’t sound too appetizing. I think I’ll pass. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover because from the outside, the restaurant does look like some crap hole-in-the-wall place. Yet, as I walked into the spacious modern designed restaurant, I was definitely impressed with it’s sleek interior appearance. For two, we ordered the following: : Screaming Potato Roll– One of the daily specials and would definitely recommend! Some type of sushi roll layered with some monster fried potato crumbs! Bomb! Honey Dragon Roll– Not the best. Pretty to look at since it was covered with different color tobiko balls but not satisfyingly appetizing. Fuji Volcano Roll– Only reason we ordered this was because it contained Barcardi 151 in it(Alcohol in Sushi… WTF right?!) Two pieces of sushi were situated in a puddle of flaming Barcardi 151. It was entertaining to watch the flames surround the sushi for a minute but it wasn’t worth the 12 $ or so dollars. Chocolate sushi also gives you 20% off your entire bill regardless if you mention Unilocal or not. Score! ;) Edit: Since when did they change their name to Olleh Sushi???

Came hoping for AYCE sushi but apparently it is not available on Friday — Sunday. Also you must sit at the bar to partake in AYCE. I ordered the Combination Tofu Soup and it was good. The side dishes were Japchae, kimchi, bean sprouts, broccoli, pickled cucumbers, and potato+fruit salad. The kimchi here is legit. I also had the Oh Yes Roll. The sushi here is not as good(this is a Korean establishment.) It was nice and crunchy but the fish flavor was lacking. Currently there is a 20% discount for lunch or dinner regardless if you mention Unilocal.Any tofu soup is $ 9.24 but with the current discount it’s $ 7.40! Now that’s a deal! This House has a nice décor that I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a club at night. The crowd is also very diverse. The only suggestion I have is for the bus boys to clear the tables a little faster, so that people can be seated accordingly. Overall, I would definitely come back again more so for the tofu soup than the sushi. Note: The place can be a little hard to find since they recently changed owners and hence the name change to Olleh Sushi and Tofu.

Food: ok. I’ll go here if I want to fill up for cheap($ 15 made-to-order all-you-can-eat.) but I won’t be visiting here for an awesome tasty meal that will melt my food soul. Service: slow BUT they acknowledged, apologized, and gave free ice cream… so I’m ok with it now. Food details: I went there to enjoy their dinner buffet. It only cost $ 15, but also came with the quality of $ 15. Gyoza: deep-fried! I wasn’t expecting this. It tasted ok, but I like my gyoza pan-fried better. Agedashi Tofu: ok, but I’ve had better. Japje(korean noodles): Yum! Philly Roll: too much cheese for the amount of salmon they put in(which was not very much). Tempura batter: dense rather than light and crisp. Eel: not well done as I liked(I could feel the bones poking against my gums… hasn’t happened at other restaurants, but maybe I was just unlucky) Spicy tuna: spicy, but no flavor… definitely had better. Oh yes! roll: Yummy!!! I’m sad I found this on my last order, because I was too full from all the other rolls to order a second one of these!!!

Is this place under new management? I noticed the label on their chopsticks did not say«Chocolate Sushi» but said something else– I did not particularly pay attention to the spelling. I came in craving a sushi roll within the area and decided to have a small, quick lunch. Had whatever roll on the menu that contained Shrimp Tempura, Hamachi and Spicy Tuna … it was okay. Service was lacking, had to look around for a server for about 5 – 10 minutes to make eye contact to get the check. Surprisingly, not great today.

The lack of a ghiradelli roll is as tragic as it is hateful. The food is fine, but nothing special; high marks for presentation, but I found the caliber of the fish didn’t deliver. Unsurprisingly, korean food is offered on the menu. As convenient as it is, I am too much of a segregationist to be enthusiastic about korean food in the sushi restaurant, at least in a town with plentiful korean options. Feels dreadfully antisocial to order bibimbap when everyone else orders udon, or worse, nigiri. I see why people like the location; it’s very nice inside. But I care more about delicious than décor, and this hasn’t established itself on my short list.

The food is really delicious here, no doubt. HOWEVER(sadly there is a «however»), the service could use a pick up. At the time(dinner on a Wednesday night), I seemed to have to wait at least five to ten minutes to wave down a server for the all-you-can eat sushi menu. Nonetheless, the quality of the food ordered was excellent. My dad and I ordered: 1. Super California Roll — had eel on the top, and tasted pretty good with avacado and imitation crab meat. 2. Spicy Tuna roll — decent. 3. Fried Philly Roll — really, really good! The cream cheese and the warmth of the roll made it a unique taste. 4. Edamame — a little too salty on the outside. 5. Chapchae — really delicious. 6. Vegetable Udon — excellent soup base and broth. 7. Teriyaki Chicken — good flavoring. 8. Oh-yes roll — interesting roll with salmon. — And some other sushi rolls I couldn’t remember, but I know that we had at least 40 something rolls. I could tell that this place was Korean-owned, and that most of the servers had a Korean accent(which was kind of hard to understand at times, but no worries). I think it’s safe to say that Chocolate Sushi and Tofu House is an asian fusion joint which combines both Japanese and Korean cuisine. For all-you-can-eat, the price is $ 14.75 for both lunch AND dinner, which I say is a pretty good deal! The portions for each dish is small for all-you-can-eat for the kitchen specials, but it gives you a chance to try a lot of things on the menu. I see myself coming back to this place, but it’s such a commute. Nevertheless, worth the drive if you’re starving.

If only Unilocal had zero stars. Just finished lunch here which had to be the absolute worse service I’ve ever received. We arrived at the place at 12:30 and were greeted to a line to the door. The waitstaff were blatantly ignoring the crowd at the door and kept talking amongst themselves behind the sushi counter. This wouldn’t bother me if the tables were full but they had tons of open tables and simply could care less about their potential customers. Anyways it took 3 separate people to go up to them to finally seat the line. My boyfriend and I were finally seated and handed our menus… We order two bento boxes, shrimp tempura, and two diet cokes. We get our tempura after about 10 mins… And we are still waiting on our drinks. After 15 mins we get our bento boxes. No drinks and no miso soup. My bf is frustrated about our sodas and we flag our waitress who says she is going to get it. 10 mins later and still no drinks. Irritated the bf flags down the waiter who took our order and he responds… Oh they should have come. No shit Sherlock. Bf proceeds to tell him that he better get them because we are tired of waiting. Sodas finally arrive at the table. Meanwhile tables around us are also complaining. The table directly to our right flagged down the manager asking where their drinks were and the manager responds, well what do you want me to do about it. Can we say poor customer service? We finish our food and sat waiting around for our check. 35 mins pass… I asked our waitress twice for our check. She keeps passing around saying she will get to us. After 45 mins of waiting my bf walks up to the manager saying we haven’t got our check, and the guy just walked away. Well if they don’t care about getting paid why should we even care about waiting around? Chocolate sushi even with the 30% discount It isn’t worth this type of service. Unilocalers beware of this piss poor establishment. Edited somewhat due to a spelling error since I wrote this on the iphone coming out of the place.

Get WITH the PROGRAM! Lunch time at Chocolate is a total disaster. I saw people leaving their table b/c no one came to take their order. I was about to leave but the waitress came over just in time. It took forever to get our sushi(we only ordered 2 specialty rolls) and the waitress totally forgot to bring our miso soups. Water and Tea was brought way too late and the check took forever to complete. The food is delicious. I think they are way in over their head doing Korean and Sushi. I hope they hire more wait staff and clean up their act.

Sushi all you can eat for 14.99? 0_o I heard about this special and decided to check it out with my friend one evening. We were seated at the sushi bar and given menus. These menus were very simple and had no description of what was inside the listed rolls! All they had were the names. Personally, I had no idea which rolls to order because the details were not listed under the rolls. How hard is it to put a description? That was quite disappointing. Anyways, we ended up ordering: California Rolls– The California Rolls were not great. They were too sweet and mushy. These were probably the worst I have eaten. Vegetable Tempura Rolls– The Vegetable Tempura Rolls did not fit well with me either. I found the tempura to be mushy and tasteless. There wasn’t any crisp and the roll was just bleh. Vegetable Tempura– The Vegetable Tempura was quite good. They gave us potato, broccoli, and bitter melon battered in a light tempura batter. Their tempura was probably one of the best I have tasted– crispy, light, flavorful, hot, and fresh. Oh-Yes Rolls– The Oh-My Rolls were my favorite rolls of the entire night. They contained salmon, avocado, and cream cheese deep fried. The flavors were excellent and I would definitely order this roll again. *The Service– The service was not that great. There was a long period of time where we weren’t served and I also found the servers to be somewhat impolite. They aren’t the friendliest of staff and gave us our bill when we were not even finished. Overall, I have mixed feelings about Chocolate Sushi and Tofu House. The menu and quality of the food not so great. Some of the rolls are very disappointing and lack flavor while others make it somewhat worthwhile. Honesty, I probably would not visit this place again unless I really knew what was good. The buffet price is great but if you are a newcomer you may be left with plates of uneaten rolls that you get charged extra for in the buffet.

**CHOCOLATESUSHILEAVES A SWEETSPOTINYOURWALLET** Oooh, another budget-friendly sushi spot! With enticing signs of 30% OFF and set ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT prices, I was convinced that this was the spot for a recessionista. We arrived as a party of 3 on a Tuesday night and was prompted seated. Most of the patrons sat at the bar. There were so many food options(Korean and Japanese) on the menu and we selected the following: — Seafood Tofu Soup/Medium Spicy–($ 9.24) — Soup boiled with oysters, shrimp, and clams. — Island Roll($ 11.95) — Not my favorite roll since it lacked the true tropical flavor and was rather bland. — Dragon Roll($ 10.95) — I definitely liked this one. The sushi was fresh, light on the rice, and good condiments. A+. In addition to the soup and rolls, we had banchan(Korean side dishes) and were full by the end of the hour. Good service and friendly ambiance. Trendy dark walls. With 30% off the bill, the total was $ 37 for a party of 3(no alcohol). Incredible dinner deal. MUSTS: — Tofu soups — Sushi rolls HIGHLYRECOMMEND for budget sushi.

We came to give their AYCE sushi a try, which at $ 14.75, is a pretty good deal. Since we were going to eat off the all you can eat menu, we sat at the sushi bar. Tables were for people having tofu or just ordering rolls. We walked inside and noted how big the place seemed. It has more of a trendy club vibe than a sushi/tofu place. We waited for about a couple minutes at the ‘please wait to be seated’ sign before anybody came to seat us. The ayce menu had a more limited selection of rolls, but they still had some special rolls, veggie rolls, and side dishes. We got the jap chae and the chicken teriyaki as sides, and four rolls: * Red Dragon roll: Shrimp tempura with spicy tuna on top * Red California roll: California roll with spicy tuna * Oh-yes roll: Combo fish with avocado, deep fried * Super California roll: California roll with eel We liked the Red California roll the best, so we ended up getting another one of those. We also got a salad and miso soup as part of our meals. All in all, the food wasn’t too bad but not super wow for me. Service was also kind of slow; the sushi bar gets no love from the servers. We had to stop eating and twist ourselves around to wait just so we could flag down someone in case there a server sighting. We took the suggestion of fellow Unilocalers and printed out the coupon for a free dessert. Our server said it was no problem, but we had to wait more than 15 minutes to get it and had to ask for it several times. The first time, it seemed like she had forgot. One star for the food, one for the free dessert, and I’ll throw in another star for the nice sushi guy who drizzled extra chocolate syrup on our dessert.

Okay, so although the all-you-can-eat sushi price is cool with a decent list, the service here is the worst I have yet to experience. For a restaurant with a decent amount of tables, it was really surprising to see TWO servers for the whole restaurant(maybe there was 1 more, but I only spotted 2). These servers run around like crazy to get orders in. It’s quite clear they need additional help. Anyone interested in STORYTIME? I went here for my friend’s birthday dinner. There were about 10 of us. I got there at 8 and everyone 7 were already seated. 2 of our other friends came later on. I guess the birthday boy, Tan, told the server that we wanted to wait until our other guests had arrived before ordering the food. After I got there, Tan said we should just start ordering because our other two friends are probably running late. My friend Anne really wanted to order a beer and from 8 – 8:20 she kept waving the server down. He was writing down orders for the long table right next to us. We didn’t mind waiting at first, so we just kept talking amongst ourselves until he came around and our other friend told him we were ready to order. 15 minutes later, we were about to order. The other server had to separate us because apparently those who order all you can eat cannot sit with other people who are ordering off the regular menu. So, we move around and then get our orders in. I ordered off the ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT menu for $ 14.75. We had to wait 20 minutes for our first round to come out. We then order our second round. NOTE: YOUCANONLYORDER2ROLLSAT A TIMEANDTHEYDIDN’T GETOURORDERINUNTILALMOST9WHEN7⁄10OFUSWEREREADYTOORDERAT8:10PM We were told the doors close at 9PM and last call for ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT is at 9:30PM. We were sitting there waiting for anyone to come around. Once our server came to refill drinks, we asked for another round, but he failed to return. SO, WEDIDNOTGET A 3RDROUNDFOR«ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT» SUSHI!! WTF? I THOUGHT I WOULDDIEOFBEINGFULL? Then, we wanted to pay. It wasn’t until 9:55 that we got our bill. We had 2 checks for our table, one for all-you-can-eat, and one for regular orders. My table was $ 158 with tax and gratuity so most of us paid cash and the last 3 paid with card. My friend conveniently wrote down the last 4 digits of the card and how much to charge on each card. It’s 10:10, no one is around! I get up and head over to the empty host stand, where I see another person wanting to pay(no one was here when I first entered either). I look over towards the kitchen and all employees are cleaning the bar area and kitchen area! Once they notice a few people trying to pay, then one person heads over to take our bills. 10 minutes later, we get our bill back and the server is holding probably 10 different bills in his hand. My table leaves first, but my friends at the other table had to stay and wait for their bill. We honestly tried to be patient the whole night. Nobody complained, everybody paid and tipped the required 18% without hesitation. I just think it’s really messed up how they didn’t come around for last call when we had all-you-can-eat and they didn’t get out orders until almost 9 when we kept asking. For the quality of food, I might come back here with a friend and try out the service again. Honestly, I don’t know if I would want to come back. It wasn’t just our table; there were many people trying to get their bill paid. Instead of the employees trying to clean the restaurant, they should have focused on getting everyone’s bill paid, so everyone could leave and then they could continue cleaning. There were still about 30 people in the restaurant at 10:20 waiting for their bills to get paid in order to leave with their groups. If I give this place another chance, I will most likely sit at the sushi bar since there were more sushi chefs then there were servers. Although I thought the sushi was OK, many of the people with me thought the list was quite short. However, to be fair, for $ 15, it’s alright. BOTTOMLINE: –SUSHI — 2 star because $ 14.75 is a good deal but there isn’t a long list. Also, you can’t ask for anything special with your orders. For example, you can’t ask for no mayo or extra anything because the sushi chef makes everything in bulk. –SERVCE– 1 star because they do not have enough employees. The food takes forever, they will not come around for last call until you repeatedly ask for it. The servers are not personable. I’m better off eating at the bar. I expected so much more :(

Note to self: despite the website saying to just«mention» the coupon for a free dessert to the server, they still prefer to have you print it out… but the waitress was still nice enough to honor the coupon. Also another note to self. pay attention to the all-you-can-eat days… dinner is only offered mon-thurs(and I showed up yesterday which was a friday. ooops.) Coming here I had expected to spend just the $ 15 or so for the all-you-can-eat dinner. but yeah, oops. I still wanted to try to cut back on my usual $ 40 budget on food, so I figured I try out a dinner combo. My other friends that had told me about this place were with me and they ordered a few rolls. The food was very delicious and the service was awesome. The rolls were not bad at all and some of them were offered on the all-you-can-eat menu. Will certainly have to come back for lunch or have dinner sometime between mon-thurs. Spent more than I had planned, but was certainly impressed.

Not really that impressed with their sushi rolls. The sushi rice was rather dry and the sauce was way too overwhelming. A lot of their special rolls tasted similar. The only thing good about this restaurant is the competitive price. All you can eat sushi for $ 14.74(Lunch) and $ 17.75(Dinner) are pretty good deals. The cooked dishes are a bit better than their sushi. The spicy tofu soup and the Korean BBQ were nice. They really do serve chocolate sushi but I would recommend against it.

Being my SPONTANEOUS self like always, i thought what the heck let’s Unilocal this place, read a few reviews and drive there to try it out since I always pass by this place while driving down el camino real! From the past places I’ve reviewed, I have learned to not judge restaurant by its look on the outside for sure! This place looks average on the outside but once you enter the glass doors, you enter this modern and chic décor venue. Very impressive! The place is more spacious than it looks and every table was occupied! Music was modern/top billboard songs playing in the background. I felt kind of weird seeing little kids eating and running around while listening to Birthdayy sexxx… birthday sexxxxx! Prices are a bit on the expensive side but they they marked down alot of their rolls and dishes down $ 1 – 2. which of course makes everyone more likely though to order those discounted ones :) the rolls are very generous and GINORMOUS. definitely worth the money i tell you. side of soup was also provided. 1. California Tempura Roll — the fried outing tasted so good. ANYTHING fried makes everything taste so much better. I usually don’t order normal california rolls. but this made a big difference with the fried outing. 2. Dragon Roll — the unagi wasn’t as freshed as it can be. but the sauce made the roll pretty good. 3. Bento Box with chicken teriyaki style — chicken was very moist and juicy with just the right amount of sauce. i love sauce. Total: Around $ 30 Next time, I will be trying out their korean tofu soups! I kept looking at other people’s tables since they were all drinking their soups. *drool*

There’s a reason why they top their sushi rolls with all sorts of sweet sauces. THEIRFISHNEEDSSERIOUSDISGUISE. Simply put, it was the worst chirashi I had in a very long time. There were small SCRAPS of white fish — with remnants of scales that I had to spit out. These pieces would normally be TRASHED away by sushi chefs; no exceptions. The hamachi wasn’t completely thawed. The tuna was cut in huge blocks. The egg had no dashi. The rice was oddly flavored. To our dismay, there were mountains of pre-cut sashimi slices at the bar. For $ 17, I could buy a few chirashi at Nijiya Market that are higher in quality. Okay…so that’s my feedback on their sushi. I can go on… really. The tea was like luke water. Miso soup was like instant soup… BUTTHEWORSTPARTWAS, our table smelled like dirty water… it’s that«janitor» water smell, if you know what I mean. Moving on to their Korean menu… Our soondubu and bibimbop were tasty. MUCHBETTER than sushi. The soondobu came out sizzling hot, nicely complemented by a bowl of purple sticky rice. Bibimbop was also satisfying. SUM: I will happily update this review(i.e., add a few stars) if they could come up with a different terminology for their«sushi», because whatever they’re serving sure ain’t the same sushi I know from Japan.

I’m not really fond of chocolate. I know *GASP* a girl that doesn’t like chocolate is completely blasphemous I know. Ok let me clarify before I am stoned by the masses. I like chocolate, as an accompanying flavor to something else. That being said, when someone suggests we go here, I’m doubtful, like really? But! When I Unilocal it(shameless plug for Unilocal,I can’t help myself), I find there’s no chocolate here whatsoever. It’s just one of those kitschy name thingies to draw the masses. It’s just Korean styled sushi. Yay! I was having one of those blah-zie days, and the coworkers wanted to bring me here to cheer me up and being that sushi is my comfort food this did the trick, except for the gorging on food part. We ordered 5 rolls for 4 ppl. It was just too much. At the end we were all just like no you eat it… it’s yours! But it was fun. We had the lion king roll, honey dragon roll, some crab roll, a salmon roll, and I forgot the last one. But there was green tobiko on my roll! I have never had that before. It was decently good, not amazing or anything like this place in Alameda. But it was good eats and the company and fancy decorum raised it to a 4. Plus whatever they used for the salad dressing was delicious. I do want to try the tofu next time. Every table in the whole joint had a bowl of tofu at it except ours. But I’ll have plenty of time to try it again.
