Wowowowowowowow! What an experience! So happy we came and checked this place out. They are doing everything right. The owner checks in on you to make sure you’re having a good experience and all the staff is so welcoming and friendly. Met Adrian(hope I spelled his name right) and he made our drinks which were awesome, really nice guy. All this and I haven’t written about the food yet. We got the smoked salmon appetizer, delicious! For our main meal we ordered the Portobello burger and the Tilapia wrap, which were also very good. I definitely will come back and try more signature dishes.

What a wonderful addition to the neighborhood! A really cute and intimate place with a well-curated selection of food and drinks. $ 12 for a beer flight from a menu that mostly features local breweries like Big Alice, LIC and Rockaway. The tacos are AMAZING — you get one of each type(pork, chorizo & beef) with heaping portions of meat and guacamole. The other menu items sounded very delicious as well, and I can’t wait to go back and try the burger. The owners did a great job of creating a friendly, low key neighborhood place. Great vibes overall and very friendly service from our waiter Jonathan.

Finally got a chance to check out Jonathan and Maria’s new place and it blew me away. Cozy, neighborhood place, GREAT beer selection, and a good crowd that is low on drama and high on having a good time. Didn’t try the food, but everything coming out looked great. The lights could have been a little lower, but it wasn’t enough to bother me. This is the regular bar replacement I have been looking for since PJ Horgans burned down.

I’ve hesitated for a couple months now in giving my review. Not because it’s bad: the very opposite, in fact. Actually, I want this place to succeed and thrive, but I really don’t want all of you to start coming here all the time and make it so I can’t get seated, you know? So I’m torn, but decided I should ‘fess up. I’m obsessed with this new addition to the neighborhood. Someday I’ll try something other than the burger with truffle fries but so far, in 6 visits, I haven’t been able to bring myself to veer from the perfection that is my order. Inviting, welcoming and so very friendly. Great beer list, amazing menu(I’ll try the steak lollipops, tacos, game-changing grilled cheese sandwich, and Cuban sandwich one of these days.) Warm, rustic, cozy space. On the small side, which is lovely if you’re seated, but tough if it’s full. Hence my earlier-noted apprehension. So — please frequent this amazing place often but not en masse when I’m heading over, ok?

I am so excited about this place. Local folks own it and they’re sourcing local beer! My favorite brewery is Big Alice and I’m so happy it’s on tap. We went a few weeks ago and food was great. Going again soon to try some more.

This place is fantastic! A definite upgrade from the last place that was there, cute as it was… But truly, the Mrs. and I swung by tonight because we heard it was cool. It is. The beer selection was thoughtful and super local. Not extensive. Gotta love that. And the growler deals?! What?! Lots of beer for not so many dollars! Broke? Get yourself a growler and drink like the king(or Queen) who knows where his Sunnyside is! Both the guys who were working were hospitable on a cold night, and handsome enough to make Her blush!!! She had the hot dog, I ate some TRUFFLEFRIES, and we split the Plantains. Yo… we came hungry, and they answered with dishes fit for foodies… they got mad Skill-man! Reading this? Wondering if you should check this place out? Wonder no more. From design, to music, taste and customer service, to the comic books next to the toilet, they’ve got a hip scene with enticingly delicious drink and grub. I’ll be back, and will be considering this money well-spent.

Very excited this place finally opened. It has exceeded me expectations. Excellent local craft beer, tasty food, the rest is blah blah blah. It’s exactly what the neighborhood needs. Staff is great. !!!

Great new little spot, everything was good. We tried the steak lollipops which were fantastic, the tacos were good, the meats were little on the dry side(my companion observed), however I did not mind, I like the meats crispy, they were tasty nonetheless. We also shared a Cuban sandwich with truffle fries which was good and truffle fries were delicious! We shared a bottle of wine, tried the white sangria, mulled wine and a couple of shots on the house! All the drinks were made well, I preferred the mulled wine, my friend the white sangria. We were very pleased especially with the attentive service by all, including server, bartender and the owners, a very gracious couple. We also really enjoyed the music. We will absolutely be back! Ps. This is a new place and it is a work in progress therefore, there is no desert menu yet. I would love to see what desert menu they come up with.

If this is not the best burger in NYC, it’s one of them, and it’s unique. Go for the chopped bacon — a genius variation. Great rotating beer selection. Plenty of local examples, like the Big aLICe I had, a jalapeño rye black IPA. Pretty standard bar, but it does include among Scotches the less common and supremely superlative Laphroaig and Lagavulin. Soon to come — desserts, including stuffed arepas. Really not far from Midtown. Cozy, warm, festive, romantic. COMEHERENOW. My last remaining chimichurri skirt steak lollipop is attached.

Verrrry nice and needed addition to the Sunnyside North/Skillman Avenue scene. A small yet cozy place, with an impressive list of beer and an even more impressive food menu. The owners Jonathan and Maria are attentive hosts, and they make sure you want for nothing. After a disastrous staff change down the block at my favorite local, I haven’t been back the avenue. because of this place… you know where to find me. PS: the barkeep Hadrian is an added gem!

This place is exactly what Sunnyside needed. Great food(TRYTHEHOTDOG), fantastic service, and an amazing array of drinks to have a go at. The atmosphere is perfect and I really hope no one reads this review so this place doesn’t get so popular that I can’t get a seat at the bar.

This place is so cozy!!! The food is really good. The wings are spicy and could possibly be one of the best wings I’ve had. We ordered the shrimp po boy special. Omg!!! The shrimp were so sweet and tasty. The Pablo breadcrumbs were light and so flavorful. We also had the truffle fries which were 4 out of 5 stars. They need a dipping sauce like a mayo or sour cream. Can’t wait to go again. This place was buzzing!

Found this little gem during a search for a bar with decent food and in close distance to where I live. Lo and behold I landed at The Alcove. As I entered this establishment, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were full with two little seats remaining in the corner for my guest and I. Mind you it was Thurs night and this place is one block off of Roosevelt ave in an area where there is minimal parking and its packed?!? OKAY — this is a good thing! After sitting, we were asked what would like to drink and we proceeded to order our usual cocktails. We received our drinks and then ordered our dinner. We ordered spicy buffalo wings(10pcs/order), Alcove Cuban sandwich with a side of truffle & bacon fries(amaze-balls) and also their steak skewers. The wings were traditional bar wings but what stood out was that they had actual cubes of cheese blended into the sauce which was a nice touch. Out of the 3 dishes we ordered, the sandwich was by far the best. The pork inside the sandwich tasted like it took a little effort in cooking and preparing which was a plus. They also dress the sandwich in this light green sauce(pure magic) that I had to ask the waiter for an additional cup of it! Now the skewers were not up to par. For some reason, the skewers came to the table rather cold while everything else was perfect warm. The presentation of it was nice and the portion was fair(4 skewers/order with approximately 5 steak cubes/skewer). I didn’t complain about the temperature of the food because their good outweighs their bad. I believe the owners were both there that night when we visited. The male owner was especially friendly and welcoming which is probably the reason why I kept my mouth shut about the cold skewers. Don’t get me wrong, the flavor and taste was on point but just wish the dish arrived warm. Anyway, this place is super cozy for a joint in Woodside and I am very glad that we landed here. This will definitely not be the last time I come here. Please take a trip out there, you wont regret it!

Great place. We stopped in for just a drink but ended up staying most the night. Really friendly bartender, and owner, and a great community feel to the folks sitting at the bar. We had the patacones, an epic hot dog, and the grilled cheese. Everything was testy. Especially good with the mango hot sauce they recommended. Great beer selection, especially with the focus on local beers. LIC Beer Project, Rockaway Brewing, and Big Alice were all represented. We also ordered some good wine that came with very generous pours. This is the sort of place you want to frequent. Can’t recommend it enough.

Dropped in on Friday for a couple of hours. Place looks great and had a nice crowd. Bar gets filled quick and the seats /tables are fine to sit at. Actually make good people watching spots. Bartenders were very nice and overall cool cibe. Can’t say enough about the great beer selection — all local beers! Well done. Drinks are good — homemade margaritas. Tried the tacos and alcove fries — they were great too. Jonathan and his wife — the owners– introduced themselves and made the rounds asking if we liked everything, enjoyed the drinks etc. terrific hosts who made you feel like you were in their home. Awesome new bar in sunnyside and it’s a very welcome addition to Skillman.

My wife and i were there last night to check this new place out, what a great addition to the neiborhood, the décor is inviting, cozy and warm besides they play great latin music which we both enjoyed since we are latin. I had the beer flight with a great selection of beers from belgin style to stouts, my favorite was the jalapeño rye ipa. My wife and i shared the colombian platter then she had the hummus and i had a burger they both were delicious … Cant wait for them to have a full menu since they are just opening they have a limited menu. We are deff coming back to try the mojitos and more beer !!!

A lot of potential. I’d love to see this place succeed. Service was really good and they had an interesting beer list. Food menu was international twists on old favorites. With a few small changes, it could be outstanding. A couple specific suggestions to management as they get started: –Get better chairs. The chairs at the tables really uncomfortable. This is probably the most important thing. I wasn’t able to find a posture I could sit at the table and feel relaxed. This is the kind of place I’d like to linger my girlfriend or a book, but it’s just too hard settle in to those chairs. –Get coat hooks. This really cheap solution will go a long way in making the small space feel less cramped. –Turn off the track lights at night. It’s unpleasant shining in my face, and the brightness makes the space feel smaller. Lighting just the lights above the bar and on the opposite wall would make it feel a little bigger, and again, more relaxed. –Good music selection, but turn volume down maybe 15%. –Be a little less cheap with the house whiskey, or cut the price a couple bucks. Your Manhattan is pretty harsh, and it’s smaller and costs exactly the same as a really nice one at Quaint. You’re focused more on beer, so this isn’t as big a deal as the ambience. The owners clearly have a lot of heart, and I’d like to come here often. I hope as they work out the opening kinks they’ll take a few of these small steps to make things just a little more comfortable.

With Latin Music bustling in the back, a weird blend of all sorts of people illuminated in the various lamps that hang all over, the cozy feeling, varnished wood all has a unique feel. The bar has great options and different spreads of wine and booze then the other local bars. With various musical on the playlist and a great staff in sure with one visit this will be your favorite bar. P.S the hotdogs are the bessss!

The Alcove is a wonderful change from the darkness and clatter of Sunnyside bars. The place exudes cozy and inviting. Jonathan takes care of you from the moment you walk in until you sadly must leave. Great local Queens beers like Big Alice, Rockaway and LIC Project are on tap and the food was pitch perfect. I plan to frequent this place as much as possible!
