What a breath of fresh air this place is. Marlene’s is the kind of place I wish I had in every neighborhood I have ever lived in all over New York City and the boroughs. Good music set at just the right volume to allow conversation, a laid back, «stay as long as you’d like» atmosphere and owner/employees that make you feel welcome with kind service and intelligent conversation. Everything is served fresh and the iced coffee is truly the best in the area. They keep it simple and they keep it good. My new favorite spot in Sunnyside and Woodside.

I love love love this place! My friend and stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. The food and drinks were awesome! The menu is small but that doesn’t matter because the atmosphere and service are exceptional! A must try if you are in the area! I will be back for sure!

Wonderful ambiance and drinks for a chill afternoon or night! I’m a big fan and can’t wait to see what they have in store for performances downstairs.

I’ve been here a few times. Each time the owner has been very friendly. There is a good feel to the space. It’s cozy and warm. It’s definitely a welcoming place to just sit and relax after a long day. Additionally, Marlene adds a nice character to the neighborhood, for sure. A refreshing bit of diversity amongst the sea of pubs in the area.

Hmmmm i must go back and check it out as from my memory, coffee and crêpe were nothing special to speak about and agree it is overpriced for what it lacks. Especially that the owner has a short lived memory, always treating like it is your first time stepping in despite long conversations with her. Theme, design, and decorum is what attracted me to this place but food and service did not keep me. Will update this on my return as seems has been renovated.

Had a latte and Nutella crêpe. Latte wasn’t that good and the crêpe was very mediocre and a bit pricy. Really cute café though. Service was so so.

Where have I been the last few months? The place looks fantastic, the coffee is amazing, the atmosphere is modern and divine. You can feel like Christopher Isherwood in the 1930s in Sunnyside.

Marlene Tavern is amazing! The vibe is warm, the food is excellent, and the owners are charming and welcoming! A great place to unwind in the serene and lovely Sunnyside Gardens. For those that live in the neighborhood, if you haven’t come out to support this business, you absolutely must. This is the kind of place we need to keep in the Gardens. Hopefully the next venture in town will be a great craft beer bar with creative cuisine a la «Queens Kickshaw» in Astoria. Marlene is a wonderful addition to the scene and I hope it stays for years to come!

They’ve expanded from Marlene Café to Marlene Tavern and Wine Bar and what a lovely renovation! The look is much more modern. They’ve also added an extra 3 or so feet to the Tavern, thus keeping Marlene’s intimate feel while still offering more space than they used to. The food was very good and not your usual bar food. It’s not a huge menu, but since it is Slovenian in style, almost everything was new to me! The sausages and other appetizers work perfectly on a cold’ winter’s night. And don’t forget the wonderful crepes(what Marlene Café was known for) are still on the menu! A very comfortable and warm atmosphere with good food and friendly service. What’s not to like?

Café Marlene has transformed itself into a rustic tavern that transports you to the Slovenian countryside. You can find Central European and Slovenian specialties lovingly prepared from the finest ingredients, as well as fine Slovenian wines. My friend and I shared the bierbeisl and cevapi(To je zelo okusno – It’s tasty!) with a glass of cviček, a traditional Slovenian wine that is a blend of red and white grapes. It is crisp, light and dry. Na zdravje!(Cheers!) We also shared the very best crepes with chocolate sauce drizzled on top and a dollop of fresh whipped cream. Sublime.
