Wow, another new Indian place opening in the area! Awesome. This is the only place close to us I’ve seen that serves thalis(North Indian style, with mulligatawny soup instead of the Southern rasam/sambar and poori instead of papad). Everything was delicious, from the raita to the kheer. Spice levels were as requested and the food tasted fresh and was of good quality. Will definitely order again!

My daughter and I walked in to Taj on a Thursday late afternoon and were immediately greeted and seated. The entire dining room smelled inviting, like a friend’s or relative’s house when they’re expecting you for a meal. The manager was very helpful and also a good listener; when he realized that I had a lot of experience eating Indian cuisine in this area, he still guided us as to Taj’s treatment but did not condescend or patronize. Indeed, we received a royal treatment! So, it was fitting that we chose the Taj Royal Dinner for 2(fair warning: it’s enough to feed 3 people very well!). It is the best deal: for about $ 34 we got to sample both vegetarian and meat samosas(we both preferred the vegetarian ones, filled with potatoes) accompanied by the freshest mint-cilantro chutney I have ever tasted outside of my own kitchen and a tasty tamarind sauce, two soups(chicken and coconut), a selection of tandoori meats and two other entrées of our choice(chicken tikka and shahi chicken korma) served with aromatic basmati rice(additionally perfumed by whole cloves and green cardamom pods) and soft, supple naan. We couldn’t finish everything in one sitting so we brought the tandoori meats, brought sizzling to our table, home. They were so moist that even reheating in the oven at home did not dry them out! We will be trying out their lunch buffet next, but we already know that Taj is our neighborhood home-away-from-home! I”m hoping Taj continues to be successful because, otherwise, there are no good Indian restaurants in this area.

This place is really good. Dropped in on a night with a snowstorm, had the Shahi Paneer Korma and Baingan Bhartha. Both were excellent. Will definitely be going again soon.

tasty! we went for dinner recently, and had a good experience. considering the place just opened not too long ago, we anticipated hiccups in service — not the case. good range of selections, and they have dosas, which i love. nice amount of food for the money, and the leftovers were just as good the next day. we’ll be back.

I had their lunch buffet twice last week. First I think that the food was good and was very affordable but I do think they need to make some improvements. Buffet did lack variety in dishes and desert. The paneer seemed to be made with tofu not paneer. Naan was very good. They also ran out of rice. Restaurant lacked atmosphere and no music was playing. Complimentary masala tea was not offered. I think the restaurant has potential but it needs to make some small improvements in order to be competitive in area.

Ordered online delivery from these fine folks only to realize I was far outside of the delivery radius(9 miles). They went far out of their way regardless and within 35min a delicious assortment of hot fresh Indian food was at my door. Great service, solid cuisine. I’ve eating Indian all throughout boston and NYC and this stands up to any of them even through delivery. I will surely be back for more.

Called to order take out. Voice mail box was full on a Sunday night at 6:15. Not a good start for a neighborhood restaurant.

Excellent new Indian place in Stoneham! We just did takeout for the first time tonight, and were pleasantly surprised. It was flavorful, with good portions. We got the chicken tikka saag and baingan bhartha(eggplant), and both were very yummy(and trust me, my husband and I have tried a lot of Indian places!!). We also go veggie samosas, which I found to be a bit salty, but still worth finishing, and an order of paneer dosa, which is basically a chickpea crêpe filled with paneer cheese. We’d never tried this and I think it was drier than we expected – but I also think we should have made better use of the five(!) different sauces that came with our order. Lastly, we split a mango lassi(New Years resolutions be damned!) and regret not one delicious sip of it. Next time I’m not sharing! The service was so great, very personable and courteous. We will definitely be back to Taj very soon. Welcome to Stoneham!

WOOOOOOW!!! What a fabulous meal me and my husband had. I ordered take out off and it was sooo good. We had Chicken Tiki Marsala, Chicken Korma, Saag Paneer, and Nan Bread with all dipping sauces. All came with Jasmine rice. The order came to 46.00 and was more than enough food. I wouldve paid more it was that good.

My family and I ate at Taj Bistro tonight for the first time. They recently opened where the Japanese place used to be. Excited to have such a wonderful Indian restaurant in Stoneham. The great aromas hit you soon as you walk in the door. The food was super fresh, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to order. My wife had the saag paneer, my son the chicken tikka, and I had the South Indian lamb dosa. Nan bread was fresh, soft and piping hot. Veg samosas were excellent, as were all the chutneys. The service by the husband and wife managers was cheerful, welcoming and attentive. The place was totally renovated and is big, airy and modern. Like the restaurant, the bathrooms were spotless(I see a dirty restaurant bathroom and assume the kitchen is similar). I hope the place succeeds so we can keep going here. Looking forward to trying the lunch buffet, and the regional specials from Bangalore and Mumbai. Five stars without hesitation. Try it!
