Quick recognition to serve you a seat even when they seamed to be busy. For that I give them an extra star. I ordered the green enchilada which was pretty good. The chips were served warm and the salsa was good but a little on the salty side for me. The rice was good. I also like the salad bar. Ingredients seamed fresh. The flour tortilla was okay. If I were to go again, I’d like to try something a little more spicy. I probably would recommend this place over some other Mexican restaurants that I’ve been to. Hope this review helps!

This is the original mexican good you want to try. Machaca was incredible and coffee with cinammon makes everything good. Service was good and they took care of everything including tortillas hechas a mano. Beans were so good here too. That is how latinos like to eat.

Great authentic atmosphere. Had the cocido(Caldo de res) and it was as good as home made. Salsa was fresh. Gravy and cheese dip delightful. Probably best in town. Service could be a little more attentive but otherwise overall good first experience.

REALLY tasty, and super authentic Mexican cusine! Wish I would’ve tried this a long time ago! Don’t let the packed parking lot fool you(that’s what stopped me from trying it once). Homemade flour tortillas are YUMMY… service was good. You’ve got try go to the bakery next door when you’re done and pickup a flan to go(HUGE and only $ 3.50)!

Don’t be scared off by the fact that the place is huge and on any given afternoon they seem empty — I am convinced that this place is just a hidden gem waiting for word to get out more. I have yet to go on an evening so I don’t know if they get busier at night, but I noticed the disco ball so I am assuming they have fun things going on maybe weekend evenings??? Idk. THEYHAVETHEBESTTORTILLASEVER. Please try them. Lol. Tacos vampiros– are really good, crunchy and they do have some bite to them! Chile Rellanos– are BIG and the red sauce is not overpowering but has a nice subtle flavor. Torta Cubana– HUGE. Absolutely HUGE. Delicious… with bacon, carne asada, ham, tomato, lettuce, I think cheese?.. I can’t remember everything but it was delicious… and HUGE! Lol It came out looking crispy and I expected it to be tough when I bit into it, but it was very tender, crispy and so good. Best torta around. Gravy and Cheese Dip — Not my favorite, red sauce with melted cheese. Rice and Beans are not the best ever, but they suffice. Its really the entrees and tortillas that stand out in this place. In the past I have also tried the Albondigas(Meatball) Soup, one of the better ones around Stockton. Whatever you order you get a ton of good food, servers are always friendly and place is clean. Best place to get Mexican food around Stockton.

This place is amazing! The best authentic Mexican food I have had. This place has the best menudo and the very best home made tortillas. The place is very clean and beautiful, the decorations are authentic and the waiters are very attentive. I recommend this place to everyone especially for breakfast! Have came multiple times and not once have had a bad experience! Worth more than 5 stars!

My family and I have been coming to this restuarant since it first opened a few years back. It’s really a hit or miss I guess maybe depending on the cook I’m thinking. Lately it’s been a big miss… my two daughters and I have been home sick with the flu so we placed an order for a caldo de pollo(chicken soup) which comes with a variety of vegetables and usually is very filling and wholesome… forgetting to add our tortillas when ordering for pick last week so I called them and mentioned they did not give us our flour tortillas and the lady on the other end only asked if we wanted to go back to pick them up, did not even apologize or ask to compensate any part of our meal since I did refuse to drive back to the restuaraunt some 9 miles that would have just made my food get cold only to pick up tortillas so I just dismissed it and let it go! So Today we went back and gave it another try. Since it’s a really cold and raining day… a nice hot caldo de pollo with potatoe, squash and carrots sounded perfect for this kind of weather, how ever when I opened my Caldo(chicken soup) and started digging around as I was eating I noticed my potatoe looked bad dark and black all the way through as if it was rotten i lost my appetite for the soup and didn’t finish it. Still feeling a little hungry I moved on to my refried beans and rice that come with the Caldo how ever after taking a couple of chips to scoop my beans with I couldn’t ignore the taste of burned beans as if they had burned them and still refried them, I was so upset that I had spent the money for food that really isn’t worth the price. Even though It is very hard to find good authentic Mexican food here in Stockton, I don’t plan on going back, at least not anytime soon.

Went here last night with a great optimistic feeling. Half the police force was there eating and cops generally know good food. Noticed they were the only ones there at 7 pm. Kind of strange. Well I ordered the fajitas as they were supposed to come on a sizzling platter. They were served on a cold platter in my opinion. Very bland and homemade flour tortillas served about 5 minutes later. I have never had a tortilla that thin. Put meat inside and they fell apart. Rice okay but re fried beans disgusting. My wife had the chile rellano because is was supposed to have a thin batter coating with a little sauce. Well the batter was about ¼ inch thick smothered in a tomato type sauce. Chips okay but salsa watery and pretty bland. We will never go back. Really clean but an awful neighborhood whcih we don’t mind if the food is good.

Excellent Mexican restaurant. Restaurants are generally based on three things to most people, cleanliness, customer service and quality of the food. Great atmosphere is always a plus, but with exceptions sometimes you find great food in hole in the wall places. Although this place is not a hole in the wall, it has a great atmosphere as well, some people may be concerned about the neighborhood it’s in but I’m not. The people here great, food great, really clean with decent food. Bottom line if you want a Mexican food you need to try it out. Prices are accurate for the quality. Also, Very spacious restaurant.

This is one best Mexican restaurant in Northern CA and yes I have gone to many Mexican restaurants threw out CA! If you love home made tortillas and beans it doesn’t get better than this place. My most favorite plate is Steak Ranchero it has so much flavor you will be hooked on it forever!

Food quality and service have dropped drastically… it’s like we were in a totally different restaurant. Soups are now thin, watery and maybe to makeup for the lack of flavor, very salty! The beans seem to be prepared with lard, so that after eating them we felt ill. The rice has none of the wonderful flavor it used too. Service, at least on our visit was extremely slow.(and the place was empty except for the four of us) The flour tortillas, which used to be wonderfully handmade, are now thin and lardy(oily) looking. What happen? Well, we won’t be back again.

The place is nice inside, the food is horrible from burnt rice over cooked tortillas ~frisbies. My husbands enchiladas made out of Oaxaca cheese and over fried. My birria taste like meat with water in a paste called achiote, not Edible at all. Zero stars no second chances!!! Highly Unrecommended eat at your own risk!

Fiancé was asked to Unilocal for Mexican food on our road trip. He found this place. As we drove by the storefront, it looked empty, not a good sign. We later learned that this was because of there being a LOT of seating in this place. As we drove in the back to find parking, it looked reaallllly sketchy. He was frustrated, I was tired of driving. I thought we should try it anyways. We were so glad we did. two negatives: I was dismayed at their use of a cheese sauce that seemed to have come out of a can for the nachos. And, I didn’t care for their refried beans — by look or by taste. many positives: the fajitas were wonderful. huge portions, tasty seasoning. I have no idea how authentic they were, but they were delicious. service was good, although it seemed the 2 servers had far too much ground to cover. bathroom was really clean and smelled like cinnamon(which I liked, but our server did not). on a road trip, bathrooms and their quality are important. OK, they are important any time really. We would go back if we found ourselves in Stockton.

Enjoyed the fish taco plate. Would have preferred cabbage to shredded lettuce. Homemade chips and salsa were excellent. Wife had chilling relleno. Stuffed with cheese and latex with cheese on top. She said it was superb. Nice friendly service.

Vampiro Tacos. Bomb. I had an opportunity to try many dishes here, but have more to try. I usually get small dishes, and I like how they use goat cheese. Fish tacos are really good here too. I have yet to try the menudo. Its a shame this location is downtown, however I do not mind the risk of getting stabbed or shot at for a chance to eat here. (If you have ever seen Spy Games, the scene where they cross the battlefield, this is that restaurant they go to) Service is good, Chips and salsa always stays full. everything we ask for comes quick, busy or not.

On my Bike Ride yesterday to Stockton, CA… it was a decision between Chef Chu’s in North Stockton or riding to Central Stockton to Nena’s or riding even further East to Hacienda Sahuayo… On the menu… Chips & Salsa(**** Complimentary)( ) Better concoction of Salsa today… an infusion of Cilantro. Very Good. Albondigas Soup(***** $ 7.99)( )( ) Broth that the Meatballs were immersed in changed a bit… more Tomato-y and larger chunks of Carrots and Squash(or Cactus). Flour Tortillas(**** ½ Came with Entrée) Home-made Flour Tortillas!!! Very Good. (Pork) Taco Vampiro(**** ½ $ 2.99)( )( )( ) Had to have some«hotness» on this visit. The Vampiro changed a bit from my last visit… bigger chunks of Pork; and it ooks as if there is a Cheese blend mixed in with the Pork and Onions. Love it here at HS… better than paying $ 4.25 at Nena’s… Horchata(**** Medium-$ 2.00 + $ 1.00 Refill) HS is now charging for refills… $ 1.00. Only refilled one of their Hispanic Drinks once before this… and it was free… Conversed a bit with my waitress today… about Food… Inquired from her how Tacos Vampiro were made in Mexico… She replied that states South of Mexico City were generally Hotter than the Northern Border States in Mexico. Why is Toluqueno so filling? Dunno… If you’ve never tried Toluqueno(Strip Steak & Ground Chorizo covered with Cheese) and are looking for something filling… this is the most filling Entrée EVER! Half of this entrée will do it… She also told me about a «Back Menu»… Two entrees that were offered to Customers in the know were… Liver & Onions — Mexican Style Stuffed Potato with Mexican Spices and Meat How about Chicken Livers? Nope…

Good stuff… I had a two-item combo for lunch here recently, which for me was a cheese enchilada and chile relleno This came with rice, beans, and handmade tortillas. The food was very good, and the portions were just right. I also appreciated the fact that the food wasn’t swimming in sauce and cheese. A definite steal for about $ 9… The room itself is a joy to behold. The neighborhood outside is sketchy at best, and is probably best known for its prostitutes. Walking inside is like walking into a sanctuary, with lovely fountains and murals. Great atmosphere and friendly service. I highly recommend this place…
