The Dirty Bird is a damn classic! Set your expectations at diner level and this place will not disappoint. Some of these comments are a bit tough on the bird and I think it’s a testament to unrealistic expectations. The food is good diner food, nothing more, nothing less. They make killer burgers and have yummy steak fries that go great with melted mozzarella if you wanna be extra fat(you want this also). Their breakfast is also great and can fill you up past lunch time! Staff is a bit outdated but that’s okay; I find it remarkable how long this one Mexican guy has been there. I mean he’s literally been working at the Dove for over 15 years and should probably own the place by now. You all know which one I mean, the little guy with one half closed eyeball. In any case this place is great for late night eats after drinking or partying all night.

We stopped in on a whim for dinner. It was my daughters birthday. Food was good. Service was great. They made her a happy birthday.

Visited this diner late one evening last weekend. So disappointed!!! Food was cold, eggs were undercooked and only half the order was actually served. Waitress, after hearing our complaint, said she would tell the kitchen… No offer to re-cook… Just so bad! Manager removed $ from the bill but that was not the point! Will not return

Service was great considering there were 4 servers on the floor and our poor server was the only one running around doing oactual work. Food was good!

I personally think that their lunch and dinner are on the lower level of plain diner food. Really nothing special. I like to go on the weekends for breakfast because, well, you can’t really mess up breakfast lol. But there is never a wait and the waitresses are very nice which keeps me coming back.

Service is always good Never had a problem. Food always taste good. The waitress Keri is awesome I recommend her. Food doesn’t take that long to come out. They have everything a diner should have. Its a great place if you want diner food and if you have a few friends bring them along.

Ah, the golden dive! Been around for years. I went for breakfast because I live in the neighborhood. The lackluster service and cranky waitresses that never smile are just a bit more pleasant than the food that comes out ice cold. There are plenty of other options – save your money instead of eating here.

This diner is awful. If I could give zero stars I would. I live a few blocks away and never go here because the food sucks and the service is worse. But this morning I wanted to get a quick breakfast with the kids and convinced myself to go there figuring how can they screw up breakfast. Well I got there — was seated right away. But sat for 10 minutes before I had to tell a busboy to please grab our waitress. No one came over to even grab our drink order. When he grabbed a waitress she came over — stood at the table — didn’t say one word and just sat waiting for us to tell her what we wanted. It was one of the most awkward experiences for me in a restaurant. She didn’t say hello, what can I get for you guys… nothing — she just stared at us waiting for us to order. We gave her out drink order and sat for a minute. I was so frustrated I decided to leave. When I walked to the counter to tell the young girl at the register I was leaving and why — my waitress was standing there — she had not even went to get our drinks. Wish I had taken the time to actually tell the manager instead of just telling the girl at the register. This place is awful. It is worth driving to Andrews or Annadale diners. I will never go there again.

Dirty dove is a solid classic. Decent food, not too expensive, service is adequate but nothing fancy. Perfect diner when you’re hung over and need a good meal. Portions are great, especially for the price.

Had a Dove Omelette. Was terrible. The mushrooms was terrifying to even look at. Rubbery. Watery. Eggs were overdone. Potatoes were hard, bland and cold. Sorry. I usually don’t like giving negative reviews but I had to put this out there.

Part 2: Another gross thing that goes on is he checks his blood glucose level. He does not do this himself. The managers(when his son is not there) give him his shot sitting at the counter where customers sit. Then leave bloody tissues on the counter and do not clean it afterwards. Besides the fact that managers at a diner should not be performing medical procedures on an old man as part of their job. Lastly, he often sits at the counter or in the booth and clips his toe nails, leaving them on the table till he is done, and not cleaning it afterward. You can not make this stuff up. He also has a friend that eats there constantly. He is maybe in his late 50s or 60s. The guy is a walking sexual harassment lawsuit and I have seen waitresses be visibly upset because they are forced to serve his table. He recieves star treatment because he knows the owner and his son, yet he constantly makes sexual comments, flirts with, and has even groped waitresses. He also takes down their numbers and texts them, often making sexual remarks through this, and to ask what time they are working before he comes in. There is one time that I know of that he asked a waitress that I believe was around 21, whether she would like to come to his house the following evening for dinner and a movie. He is at least 55 years old! Obviously the work environment sucks and the management sucks, forcing waitresses to work extra shifts all the time when they have already been there all day, because they constantly mess up the schedule. But as you have read, thats the least of their issues. I have seen more then 3 waitresses break down into tears in the back, outside, or after their shift ends, because they feel miserable working there, and deal with a senile old man and more then one older guy who doesnt realize how creepy it is that he makes these gross comments towards them. But they have nowhere to go. I dont know how this has never been reported. Beaides the waitresses these things happen right in front of all the customers. Who have many times looked disgusted. Another issue I have is the large amount of off the books waitresses being paid 2.50 an hour, but many places are like that. The waitresses dont really mind as they make about 2.50 an hour on the books after taxes anyway. Im sorry for the long post but I could not keep this to myself any longer. I have not worked there in over 6 months but I still friends with people that do and it has not changed. The waitresses for the most part really are good. But the management sucks, they are forced to let things happen, and this place will never inprove while«Old Man Mike» is still allowed to treat the place like hos house 10 hours a day. Believe me it doesnt matter if the place looks clean. Everything I said here is true and this stuff happens all the time. This was just what I coukd think of off the top of my head. This was the ahort summation. Imagine the long one. The owner(the old man’s son) is nice, but can not control the older man. And the wait staff that I know is nice(many people come and go I can not speak for newer waitresses). But. the unsanitary conditions and the unethical treatment of the workers should have this place shut down. Eat there enough and youll see this all for yourself. Many long time customers have stopped coming after witnessing different things. Others just wont let go. EATATYOUROWNRISK

This place lives up to its name«the dirty bird» not only was it filthy but the waitstaff was awful. The place was practically empty and we had to keep getting up to walk over to the hostess to get the waitstaff service us. My husband and i both ordered a cheeseburger. You’d think how can someone mess up a burger? Well this place managed to do so. I took a bite out of it and it was undercooked. I ordered it well done it was rare. It was awful. My husband asked for medium well and his was rare as well. They didn’t put cheese on his burger. Needless to say we didn’t eat more than a bite out of our burgers and when we asked for them to cook it more they told us they can microwave it for us. We told them never mind and they made us pay for this horrendous meal that even a child could make. WEWILLNEVERGOBACKTHEREAGAIN! Dinner beware! Eat here at your own risk.

I’ve gone to this place more times than I can count. Not so much lately, but years ago I was here on a weekly basis. I’ve constantly heard this place referred to as the«dirty bird» by several different people. but from all my experiences here, I’ve never had a bad experience. The food here is above average, the prices are reasonable, and the service has been pretty good the times I’ve gone here.

Finally made it back to the Dove after 10 years of being off Staten Island. It was the«Golden Dove» last time I was here. Just as I remember it. Prices are ever so slightly pushy for a diner, at least compared to the Jersey ones I’ve become used to. However, the portions are substantial, and you might end up bringing home leftovers. Me and a friend both got burgers, and they were cooked precisely how we ordered them. Large steak fries. Can’t forget to finish off with strawberry cheesecake. It truly was a trip back into my childhood. I’m glad to see the diner still running strong after so many years.

This diner is… what can I say one of those diners. Either you love it or hate it. I adore it one of my family members HATES it. Don’t go in expecting 5 star gourmet food. Instead expect grade A diner food. It has a robust menu filled with breakfast, lunch, dinner, kids menu, desert and out of the many things I ordered so far I never been let down. Its pretty much open 24⁄7 and the food always taste the same either you are coming in at 3PM or a drunken stupor at 4AM. I rarely have problems with this place the wait staff at times can get a little crazy I saw full yelling matches between servers. Yet I never met a server who was rude to the customer ever. They always give refills and always nice and check up on you just enough. There are times were the diner is packed other times the diner is completely empty. its always a crapshoot but the wait times are rarely long and the many hostess they had over the years have never been rude or(in my experience) never skipped over anyone. I have spent a lot of hours and money at this diner and I will continue to do so. I wish I could say more but honestly its a diner that’s run great and either you will love it or hate it.

Don’t knew what happened here lately, but the food has become mediocre at best, and the service is the Norton of the barrel. We placed an order for 2 burgers. The place is half empty, A’s after a 40 minute wait, we had to send them back. They were still cold inside!!! Recommend you stay away

This is the third in a series of Staten Island reviews I’ll be doing, based on my «Staten Island Adventure» with Jill R. and Rebecca G. Kind of odd not to finish with the last place I’m going to review, but this was actually my Staten Island swan song; Rebecca, Jill, and I all came here for brunch the Sunday after roller skating. Like the pizza place, Rebecca was a big fan of here and recommended it to us. It really didn’t disappoint. Diner coffee is either hit or miss, but the coffee here was actually good. I think I ended up getting my early morning equivalent… which is definitely a good thing, and a real testament to a place that cars are properly caffeinating their patronage. I got french toast. Which is usually what I get after a long day. It really was delicious. They gave me so much food I didn’t even know what to do with it. And GUYS… I’m a fatty. I will say I didn’t love the décor. It was a little too bright and a little too pastel for my taste. They layout was also kind of odd, but it definitely added to the weird suburban feel that I get from Staten Island in general and that weekend in particular. It really didn’t even half fill up while we were there. And like the pizza place, there were a lot of older patrons who seemed like it was their weekly place. I would definitely go back here. Our waitress was super sweet, too. So, good service.

The good ol’ Dirty Bird. Love it or hate it this diner is known all around the island. Personally I love it. The food comes quick and is always pretty decent. While some things may be better than others, their french onion soup has got to be the best I’ve ever had, beating the $ 20 bowls I’ve had in fancy shmancy places in the city. The desserts are above average for a diner as well and their baklava is to die for and better then anything you could get at a Mediterranean bakery. Also the jukeboxes that haven’t been updated since the mid 90’s at every table is just awesome.
