Found this awesome place for breakfast. Our waitress, Alysia, is amazing. The Manager, Eric, even came over and introduced himself. Very friendly staff. Only draw back was not much parking. Will be back!

Need I say more? If you have experienced the greatness of Trip’s Diner you would know that the grits is just the best!!! Great prices, super quick and polite customer service and the food tastes so comfortingly«southern breakfast.» It’s what welcoming hospitality tastes like if you could eat it. I always usually order grits, scrambled eggs and toast… they usually cover it in butter which lends to its taste. I’ve also had their huge pancakes… light, fluffy, top notch. Desserts, if you have any room are just as tasty as they look. I have told a few people about Trip’s and they instantly became regulars.

I came here for an early Sunday morning breakfast with my family(including 2 little ones) at the recommendation of my cousin who lives close by. For me, it’s a far hike to get here, but I heard the cheesy grits were to-die-for, so alas we came. It’s a small place and during popular times it gets busy fast. Even at 9:30 there was already a 20 minute wait, and not much room to wait inside either. When we were seated, they found a nice table for us in the back nook corner so our crazy kids could be crazy kids and not disturb everyone else too much. The server was friendly and prompt and happy to accommodate all our requests(more napkins, more napkins AGAIN, etc). As far as the breakfast menu goes, it’s quite limited. For a breakfast diner, I was expecting more. They have your basic options — build your own omelette, the typical«eggs, breakfast meat, toast» combo and a few unique items like breakfast quesadillas. I decided to keep it simple and got 2 eggs«over medium», corned beef hash and OFCOURSE a side of grits. When the plate arrived, the eggs were more over easy than medium, the hash was okay but nothing to write home about and the grits were the best part of the meal. I could have eaten 2 more sides of those! A must try if you come here. Overall, I thought our experience was okay, I wouldn’t come out of my way to come here, but it wasn’t bad for what it was.

This place is amazing! Great old school diner atmosphere. Amazing service. Came here the other day for the first time. Started off with a mimosa. Great drink menu by the way. Then got the French toast with a side of the thick cut Bacon. Both delicious. But the winner was the cheesy grits. Hands down the best grits I’ve ever had. I suggest crumbling the Bacon in the grits. But hey that’s just me. I don’t really Unilocal so when I do you know its good. You’d be stupid not to check this place out so you’re welcome.

Just moved to the area and really enjoy this place. The staff is always super friendly. The food is good and the specials that they create are really good. The only thing that they could do better on is the coffee. The coffee is weak and does not have much flavor

A diner in every positive sense of the word. Busy, noisy, high traffic, large portions, and the prices are right. Sit inside with the folks or outside with the pooch. However parking is a serious issue. The parking lot is small and nearby businesses will have you towed if you park on their property. Street parking is in the adjacent residential neighborhood. It creates a problem.

Decided to head to St. Pete to do some antiquing and to the Trop for the home show. Was hungry so tries Trip’s. The wait was about 10 minutes or so, not too bad. Trips is a typical diner with what was seemingly above average diner food. We started with coffee and juice and I ordered the country fried steak biscuits with a side of crispy bacon and cheese grits. My husband had the crabby Benedict with cheese grits. The food arrived quickly but we had to request silverware and napkins. Our server was very sweet and helpful. My bacon never made it to the table– which was a bit disappointing because who doesn’t like bacon right? The country fried steak biscuits(2) were accompanied by sausage gravy. The dish was ok. Nothing spectacular, no fantastic flavors, just the run of the mill country fried steak. Added a bit of sausage gravy and mayo to help with flavor. The cheese grits were ok too. The crabby Benedict was good– messy– but good. Real lump crab meat was piled on top. Both of these dishes were the days specials. Our service was great though they forgot the bacon. 3 stars for now because of forgetting the side order. Overall a decent brunch. We will try it again at some point!

Amazing service! Impeccably clean! My breakfast was great, eggs over-medium perfectly done, thick bacon, beautiful potatoes and the coffee was an A+. For the price this place is should get 6 stars.

I returned to Trip’s this morning, and sat outside with my sister and her dog. The waiter we had was EXTREMELY pleasant, and even offered my sister’s dog the bacon the table next to us hadn’t eaten(obviously he asked first). An A+ on their staff, its so refreshing to actually be treated well. The food was delicious, and the prices were extremely competitive with other local businesses. This place is definitely giving a few a run for their money.

Say what you will about Trip’s issues, but their food is DAMNGOOD. And, made with more love than hate. Maybe referring to Trip’s as a Diner is not the right title. Sure, it looks like a diner, but the pace of the staff and overall feeling is more of a small-town, local, friendly slow-paced place. Coffee shop, maybe? The parking is neighborhood street only, unless you arrive early, and totally insane. Trip’s cannot meet the demand of the customer influx. What’s set’s Trip’s apartment from other places in town? There are a few menu highlights, but I am still trying things out, so bear(rawr) with me: 1. Cheese Grits: There is no upcharge for cheese grits, and they are included as a regular side. Order them and see fireworks. This is where the customers claim that the food at Trip’s is actually under-salted. Which is rare to find these days, so enjoy under-salted food while you can. Or you can just add salt, stir, eat, and move on with life. 2. Mr. Crab’s Omelet: It is expensive, but the blend of fontina cheese and delicate crab meat inside fluffy egg with the tartness of tomatoes and planty-ness of the spinach will coat your tongue in happiness. Oh yeah, add salt. 3. French Onion Soup– Perfect balance of onion, wine, and sweetness— all covered in cheese. It is hard to get this right, and many places don’t. Where have you been all my life, hit me with a brick, I will write you love letters, and be dedicated to you for life. I am not yet elderly, and still enjoy chewing instead of slurping my food, but Trip’s has some damn good soups. Other selection are Crab Bisque and Corn Chowder. But, make sure to add salt. This is my listy-love letter to Trip’s, sprinkled with a little salt for good measure.

Cheese grits. Best I’ve had and that is a direct insult to my husband who makes some awesome grits. But these are better. Sorry. Honey. We have eaten at the St. Pete location more than a few times. Parking can be an issue in the area, just not enough of it for the size of the restaurant. We usually park across the street down the block a bit. It has a very local diner feel. Booths, bustling wait staff, and a line at the door. The service has been good for us so no complaints in that department. My last meal consisted of cheese grits, sliced ripe tomatoes and some spectacular bacon. Not that I don’t like eggs for breakfast, but did I mention the cheese grits? We’ll be back!

Went here yesterday with two other couples for a New Years day breakfast. One couple got there early and was seated at a table for 6, the waitress then asked when will your party be here and they said about ten minutes and they were then Asked to get up from the table so someone else could be seated! I have never heard of this and think to seat someone and then say get up is beyond insulting and bad service. When we got there we were seated at another table outside, the waitress took our food and drink order and we waited. The place looked like a standard diner, tight quarters inside and nothing special. We got our food and they forgot one persons and just didn’t say anything. We waited about 3 min and the waitress comes over like how is the food do you need anything? Um, yes we need one more missing meal. She says oh I have no idea where that is! Well, go figure it out! So then another few minutes pass and it comes out. No real apology, no manager coming over, no bill discount. I do not get how places like this think they can get new customers to come back by treating people like that. It’s a diner! You have to have great service! The food was blah. The homemade biscuits were ok, the corned beef hash was subpar and fatty, the omelet eggs taste fake and watery, the shining light was the cheese grits, delicious. Then to close our experience they mixed up the bills at the counter to pay and wasted more of our time. This place is disorganized and the food is barely decent. I wouldn’t return.

If it weren’t for the service issues we had I would’ve given this place 4 stars. Overall the food was really good and our server was friendly but a bit spacey. The biggest issue that I had was that we got there a bit earlier than our party and they sat us. Well then the manager came out and said well we’re gonna go ahead and take the table back. She apologized several times but they should just simply put a sign up letting people know of their policy. Also one of the people in our party didn’t get his food until like 5 mins after everyone else. And their check was wrong. I got the biscuit and gravy platter. The biscuits and gravy were good. Their bacon was a bit undercooked for my taste but their hash browns were really really good. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food for the most part, but those issues with service kind of overshadowed that.

Good breakfast food! I got the corn beef hash(modified) with over easy eggs and fried green tomatoes with a horseradish sauce… Very tasty. Service is fast. They have gluten-free bread and sell alcohol here too! Pay at the counter

This is a good traditional breakfast place. Great food options and a good atmosphere. Can only imagine how busy this place gets on rush days! Be careful of parking though. Nearby businesses are very unfriendly towards patrons here. Heard from a local that cars regularly get towed, so make sure to park either in the lot right behind Trip’s or on one of the streets.

Breakfast — the most important meal of the day. So do it right. Second visit to Trips this Sunday and it was delightful. Corned Beef Hash was THE best I’ve had, nice and crispy and tasted homemade. Eggs cooked to perfection. Simple breakfast done right. The Mr.‘s order was also delightful. On our previous visit we had lunch — turkey club and country fried steak — both were great then too. Breakfast visit? Go early! Popular place but they move quickly so your wait isn’t wasted.

You in the mood for diner food? This is the place to go! It was our second time coming here and I’ve enjoyed it both times. Come hungry and leave full. I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was amazing. I normally never finish a meal but I did this time. My boyfriend ordered a big boy breakfast and finished it all. Lots of food, good side options and great tastes. My eggs Benedict was done right with a lemon hollandise and topped with paprika. It came with one side so I opted for cheesy grits. The grits were creamy and I’m relieved it came in a small cup so I didn’t keep eating. This is a St. Pete tradition and you should definitely check this place out for breakfast or brunch. I’m sure lunch and dinner are great too but that’s another trip all together. My favorite meal is always breakfast so I can’t pass up an offer for breakfast or brunch!

Traditional diner breakfast in a traditional diner setting. Arriving at 7:30 am on a Sunday is the way to go for easy parking in what is normally an otherwise crazy crowded lot, as well as decent service. I ordered the Belgium waffle with maple syrup, a side of bacon and one egg poached hard. The waffle was cooked to a nice golden brown, was flavorful, and soaked up the syrup just the way I like it. The egg was poached perfectly and I don’t know what kind or where they get their bacon but it’s like crack. Honestly some of the best bacon I have had in a long time. Overall a decent breakfast, now I understand why this place is frequently busy when I drive by on weekends. Next to try Trips for dinner!
