Save a lot is not the kind of store to which you bring a shopping list. You go into save a lot and buy the best of what they have. They always seem to have a few excellent deals on slightly less than perfect produce, they always have cheap and fairly high quality fresh meats(same quality as the local grocery chain), and always have a fair selection of dairy based items. Unfortunately, the majority of the store contains unhealthy pre-packaged stuff, which seems unfair, because they clearly cater to people like me who are short on cash, and we deserve healthy food just like everyone else… But I shall not get on that soap box for the time being. In summary, I’m never disappointed with my careful purchases from save a lot, and I would recommend them highly to other careful shoppers.

Mostly house brands from a Midwestern, homegrown competitor to Aldi that started in Missouri and merged with a Minnesota grocery giant. It’s warehouse style shelving with anywhere from one to a few kinds of each grocery category they carry. No charge for carts. They don’t have a German hook up, but they do have some of the basics you’d expect and some you might not like fresh chilies and tomatillos. You won’t find that at a gas station minimart. Many of their products’ labels and brands are named after people at their company, sometimes that works out better than others. Some of the items themselves seem like the same foods you’d get at Shop n Save or Target but with different labels. For what it’s worth, nicer atmosphere than the smaller Save a Lot farther south by Cherokee. Good for quick basics. I’ve never had or seen a hassle in the more than seven times I’ve ducked in here. And if there’s something more specific you’re looking for, Field’s Foods and Soulard Market are in walking and biking distance. As is Randall’s for some wine or beer.

If you are in a rush and just need to pick up some milk and eggs this is the place to go. I would not go here to get all my groceries though. They have a lot of «non brand name«items that look like the brand name items. Also. it can get a bit sketchy here. I was here once when two employees(yes I said it, employees) got into an altercation. One employee was trying to get the other to follow her outside so they could«work things out» aka FIGHT. Again, it is a wonderful place to get your milk and eggs…
