This is one of the coolest music venues in the country! Yep I said it! Pretty unknown in the national market, but I have now played here a couple times and was recently here for a wedding reception! First off the food is amazing, I had 3 vegan sliders,(falafel style, burgers) with a huge bun and great toppings, bouncing with flavor for 7.50! Amazing! My wife had the loaded nachos for 5 bucks and they were huge! And made on pita chips which was pretty cool! Ok now the drink selection is out of this world, lots of great local craft brews and well as your cheap standards like STAG!!! I love stag beer and they have it on tap! I can’t get that stuff in Iowa! Plenty of seats, couches, tables, and cool round about bar with coffee shop on the other side! Bathrooms are pretty clean for a rock club! It’s got a cool upstairs balcony! Now as a performer, remember I said I have played here a couple times, once in a rock band and once in my more experimental solo project and both times were awesome! The room sounds great, the stage is not to high, but high enough for great sight lines any where you stand! It sounds good on stage! They have an amazing green room that you can actually watch the band play while your getting yourself ready to rock! I love this place! It’s a bit of a destination stop, but only an 8 dollar cab ride from downtown hotels and it’s close to St. Lou University! The first time we were here we did get our window smashed in, in the parking lot across the street, so maybe try to park a little closer to the venue and you will be fine! Rad spot! Way to go Plush!

I love this place, but I am SO tired of all this wishy-washing… I called at 3 to ask what there hours were. I had previously stopped by a Sunday morning, super excited to eat their delicious brunch only to discover they were apparently closed. So, remembering that I figured I’d better check if this place even existed anymore. I spoke to a guy at 3, who said they’re open from 4 to 1am, and confirmed they serve food. He did also confirm they no longer do brunch(which I guess I already knew!). So, I show up there at 4:15, ready for any of their delicious foods. First off, this is not a place to eat a meal. They completely took out ALL of their booths. All that’s left is uncomfortable bar seating, unsuitable for having a real meal. I walk in, no one’s in there. I’m used to eating in an empty restaurant, since I usually eat dinner at 4, most places are plenty empty. There’s a women using a laptop at the bar. The bf and I walk in, and stand around for a few minutes, waiting on someone to come and wait on us. I finally ask her if she knows what’s up — I guess she works there, just not as a server. She sits there for another moment or 2, I let her know we’re here to eat dinner. She says, «maybe Joe is in the back». Ok… So I loudly shout — «Hello?» towards the back area. Nothing. At this point, she gets up and walks around. I look up their number and call the restaurant. She picks up the phone. Ok, so she does work here. No answers on if we can order food yet. Then a server comes out. First thing she asks me, «do you know what you want to order?» Um… no. Since we haven’t seen the menu, since no one’s come to help us yet. So, we ask to see the menu. It takes her a few more minutes to find the menu. It’s all finger food, not dinner food. I guess I should’ve been more specific when I called. Really, the server seemed nice, but this is disjointed. At this point, I’m like, let’s leave. I kinda doubt there’s anyone in the kitchen. There’s barely anyone taking orders. I’m so tired of this place. I LOVE their food. But going every few months and finding that there’s some random change where they remove the very thing you loved each time you go has gotten on my nerves. Um, they do have chicken and waffles on the menu, but that was the only thing that seemed like it’d be a full plate of food. There were sliders, wings, and nachos too. I’m sure it’d be delicious, their food always is.

Plush kicks ass. Hard. We considered having our wedding in the 4th floor penthouse, but the City Museum narrowly won out. My review is for the restaurant/bar only, though Plush is actually a wacky ass restaurant + bar + music venue + ANOTHERMUSICVENUE + 4th floor rentable penthouse formerly owned by crazy rich bachelor. Inexpensive. Excellent beer. Weird décor, in a good way. Weirdish service, but also in a very good way. Hipster as shit, but again, this is a good thing. Wanton nachos are stupid good. Wings are excellent. Cheesy grits are great. Wings are dope. Burgers are spot on. The Banana Bread Pudding dessert is orgasmic. We also loved our waitress. I didn’t catch her name, but she is a tall, dark haired queen-of-the-hipsters. She was very personable and fun, and was great at offering suggestions when we were ordering. It was funny, because it was obvious that she legitimately freakin’ loved the food at Plush, and I can see why. We really do love Plush, and wish more people would get out there for the food. It rules.

A big venue with big unfulfilled potential! I had been looking forward to last night for a while. My friend Karen moved to Cincinnati earlier this year, a fate worse than death for a die hard Cardinals fan. However, she came back to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of her band Bunnygrunt! I was also looking forward to my return to Plush. I hadn’t been to the venue for quite some time. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed with the overall experience yesterday night. I cannot fathom how large this venue is, and don’t know how they manage to keep this place running. The music room probably holds several hundreds of people, but it doesn’t stop there. They also have a large dining area and an upstairs with three different spots: bar, game room, and balcony for the music. And its size definitely affect its sound. I didn’t go inside right away to listen to the bands, and the sound actually seemed pretty solid from the dining side. But once in the music side, the sound wasn’t nearly as crisp. It also sounded better from the balcony, which we checked out for several songs later in the evening. The staff is a hodgepodge of people. The main bartender on the music side is a good guy. I’ve known him from his Blueberry Hill days, and he’s always been one of my favorite tenders. Sadly, most of the other staff didn’t match up with him. In fact, I would say that the rest of the staff is below average. The bartender on the dining side was okay, but she was very negative about our city. While speaking with another patron, she complained about St. Louis, saying how terrible it is to live here. Apparently, we only eat and drink here. When she asked me to verify her opinion, I told her that I disagreed. I happen to love the city that I live in, and if she doesn’t like it, perhaps she should consider moving somewhere else. Forgive me if I sound a little cheesy, but as a member of Unilocal,I feel like an ambassador to this city. If I didn’t care about St. Louis, I wouldn’t spend most of my spare time exploring it. As a bartender at a local music venue, you are given the opportunity to represent a music scene with several great musicians and talented other performers. If anything, it should be obviously that St. Louis isn’t just barbeque and beer. As a musician, I don’t like to dump on a venue. Plush is a place that I could likely get a gig, but I truly don’t like the sound. And I certainly didn’t like the attitude that some of the staff had.
