Was meaning to go here for lunch for some time, based on the quality Unilocal reviews. I tried today, and they were hauling the tables out. Moving to Cherokee Street, to open in a month or so, I was told.

Tucked down in a large but cozy basement space off 9th St. downtown, Labeebes offers really tasty Lebanese cuisine for a reasonable price. You have to try the fresh squeezed vegetable juice, i had the beet carrot juice and it came up a frothy vibrant orange. My only complaint was the cup was too small, I ended up drinking the whole thing before my food came. The food was good, I ordered a sampler platter which came with small morsels of the usual Lebanese fare such as falafel, kibbe, tabouli salad, hummus etc. The tabouli stuck out to me but I am biased because I just love the refreshing light lemon quality of that salad and this one delivered with just the right amount of parsley. The falafel was tasty, crunchy on the outside but soft inside. My boyfriend ordered the stuffed Falafel platter which was good too(I got a sample) The falafel balls were stuffed with spinach, feta, and pine nuts and served with a delicious minty-cucumber yogurt sauce. tasty! The hummus was probably my least favorite thing on the plate, its on the dry side and the accompanying pita was dry and cold; i prefer my hummus dripping in olive oil with fresh garnishes, like garlic, roasted garlic, oh and more garlic! on top. I’d choose this though any day over the available grocery store — pasty varieties. . Not exactly the most convenient location, but I’ll definitely be back if I’m in the area again. Maybe next time I’ll scope out the dinner scene, the lunchtime crowd on a Tuesday was slim, we were the only patrons which meant service was quick and attentive. Not a bad thing but I’d like to see the place hopping!

I wasn’t happy with my food at Labeebee’s, the Kibbe was practically burnt and was mostly dough with very little meat stuffing… I think their deep fryer is set too hot. I had a chicken Schwarma wrap and it was okay, not great, I’m just gladI didn’t get a Falafel, since it would have been burnt worse than the Kibbe. I liked the sweet potato fries, but I have had better(At Pappy’s BBQ near SLU)

So Labeebee’s used to serve dinner. No longer. The idiots of the world(ME) wanted to go elsewhere. Now there are rumors/fact, that they’re looking to move out of Downtown. No. If this happens, I’ll make sweet love to a block of Provel. They can’t leave dammit. This is some of the best Lebanese/Middle Eastern food I’ve had. I should go into detail, but I’m so consumed with their tabouli/tabbouleh, I just can’t help myself. Oh, and the dolmas. I swear, I’m crying writing this review, strictly because I know they’re open on Monday-Friday. These are excellent. I’m like a virgin after prom night. It ought to feel wrong, but it feels so right. Yes, would I give them 6 stars if they had booze.

Labeebee’s on a basement, OK I said it. Not like the creepy neighbor’s basement with cobwebs and jars full of stuff, but more like a church basement, tile and metal pillars. Food is really good and the prices are definitely reasonable, great falafel. They deliver, but I always get mine to go.

The restaraunt was hard to find, it is located downstairs, near 9th and Pine in Downtown. Saw their booth at «Taste of St. Louis» and sought them out, as Lebanese food is a favorite of mine. The dining room was sparsely decorated. Service was terrible. When we arrived we were the only table. Our waitress seemed rushed and distracted. When another table with three people showed up, it got worse. However, even with the bad service, the food was overall good. The falafel was small and overcooked. The grape leaves were excellent and the tabouli and hummus were very good. The pita bread the accompanies the meal was meager and cut too small. In speaking with the waitress, the hours are variable, depending on what other activities are happening downtown that evening.
