Chin chung pow! That’s chinese for«yum,» which is how I feel about Hon’s Wok. They aren’t always easy to understand on the phone… but who can blame them? They have a vast menu of plates to choose from, including many of your favorite animals. I order from them on a regular basis, and I’m always greeted by friendly stares. Sometimes they forget the fortune cookies though, which is why they are getting only 4 stars instead of 5! Ask for the ding dong special!

Of all the fast food type Chinese places that are everywhere, this one is the freshest and most authentic in town. As a vegetarian, there are plenty of options for me. I get the eggplant with tofu almost every time. You can taste the garlic and ginger in the sauce, that is perfectly spiced. My boyfriend has raved about his meat dishes as well. The prices are also fantastic. Just as cheap if not cheaper than most Chinese places, but the quality is really there. Every thing also comes out pretty quickly, whether it be take out or dine in.

Food is amazing. Delivery drivers are DICKS. The first time I ordered, I included my tip in my order. It was delivered by some high school douchebag who insisted the tip was NOT included. So I gave him $ 5 extra to be nice. I just ordered a second time(because I was wary of the first time and included my tip again), and the delivery guy was a total dick and told me no less than three times to just«sign» after I told him the tip was included. So apparently I am listed as some sort of bitchy customer in their database and now everyone who stops by is a dick. Whatever. They’re getting their cash so what’s the problem.

Meh. Let me state for the record I continue to order from this establishment because I live incredibly close and they bring it to me in 15 min when I’m too lazy to put pants on. That being said this is by far the worst Chinese food and delivery experience I’ve ever had. The food just never taste right, I don’t know if the meat is over cooked or the rice is, I usually get chicken fried rice and crab rangoon. The crab rangoon is decent, but something is always off with the rice. I’ve ordered here several times and the person taking the orders is always short, a little rude, and seems like they hate their job. The delivery person is lazy, will wait in the car or at the bottom of my porch forcing me to come completely outside, why not walk the 4 feet or get out and deliver it instead to me instead of me walking to the drivers window like some sketchy exchange for Chinese food. I don’t like that they call my cell phone to tell me that they are on my side walk. I don’t live in a high rise, walk up and ring the door bell. Sigh, I would like to say I won’t order from here again, but I know desperate times of hunger call for desperate measures.

Christmas Eve was the first time I’ve ever been in Hon’s. It was the only place I could find that was opened after 6PM and I had a guest. We were so hungry that we ordered almost everything on the picture board! LOL! I ordered hot braised chicken, green beans(those are always great in any Chinese restaurant), chicken kebabs, bok choy, lo mien with shrimp, ham and pork and crab rangoon. Some of my hot braised chicken was so hard that it was like eating rocks, and the bok choy needed to be cut into smaller pieces, but the green beans were outstanding, the crab rangoon was pretty good and for the price, it was the best for what you got! I didn’t like the rice. It had an over cooked slightly burned flavor, but the rice wasn’t needed and, personally, I didn’t like the chicken kebabs. Overall I say, great for the price. There is an AUTHENTICCHINESE menu in the middle of the written board and the written board has a bout a thousand items to chose from?! The phone kept ringing off the hook and the woman who took my order was extremely pleasant. I’d go there again, very pleased. Accept credit card payments.

The delivery took 1 hr 16 min from the time I placed the order, per my GPS its 7 minutes and 1.7 miles away in current traffic. Once the food was delivered, I walked back to my desk and sat down to eat. It was luke warm if that… I ordered the General Tso Chicken and all I tasted was Ginger. I like ginger, thank goodness, because it was over powering! Fried rice was ehh. Crab Rangoon was good, Egg roll was better! The prices are good. With Delivery you have to order $ 10 before Taxes and tip. So I ended up with a lot of food and a drink. Large menu selection. The menu they attached to the bag says, «Drivers Work for Tips» I really hope they don’t only earn money from the tips. I don’t think that’s legal but I’m not sure… Would I go back? Nah…

Wasted money. Terrible food. Terrible customer service. These people are not in the business of maintaining customers. I went in and order the lunch special #1: hot braised chicken, crab Rangoon, and fries rice. Ordering was simple and swift. When I received my food the only thing that was warm was the crab Rangoon, but they were over stuffed with cream cheese with hardly any crab at all. The rice was flavourless with sparse amount of onion and nothing more. The hot braised chicken had a glaze the thickness of honey, yet tasted like tomato paste. It didn’t even taste like chicken. I took a few bites of everything and was finished. I decided to acquire soy sauce and sweet and sour sauce but to no avail flavour wasn’t added. The sweet and sour sauce in fact was the consistency of water. To say the least I was disappointed, but to add insult to injury, when i complained to some older Asian man on duty and asked for a different meal he shrugged his shoulders, laughed, and told me that’s what i paid for. I emptied my tray and will never return.

This place is exactly what I expected from a take out Chinese place next to a cat vet(yes, you read that correctly). However, it’s definitely worth it to call in and pick up the food. Delivery can be slow and pseudo Chinese is best when hot. The egg drop soup is fine, the crab Rangoon is pretty tasty. I’ve had many of the chicken and beef dishes and I’ve never been disappointed. Both the lo mein and fried rice are tasty. It’s very reasonably priced for the food you receive. Might not be the best, but it’s perfect when you need that take out fix.

I have not been here in a while. I used to order food from here quite a bit. The food was usually good. My favorite was honey chicken. The prices are reasonable and customer service was okay. If you are looking for a decent Chinese restaurant, check this place out.

Hon’s Wok saved my Sunday. All of the Chinese takeout joints in my area seem to be closed on Sundays, so I was delighted to learn that not only was Hon’s Wok in CWE open, but it also accepted orders from (which meant that I got to use a $ 2 off coupon). I placed my order and drove the few miles to this location. After standing around for a couple of minutes, my order came out piping hot. I would say it probably took around 20 minutes from when I submitted the order to when it was ready. Made the drive home, the food was still pretty hot. This was what I tried(the bf ate the egg roll): — Curry chicken, very spicy: This was pretty good. Lots of vegetables(green bell peppers, onions, carrots), which I like. The sauce was thick, and I was able to detect some spiciness to it. It wasn’t *very* spicy, but I’m sure some people out there would absolutely not be able to handle this. Came with rice. — Pork lo mein: I liked this, the bf liked it better. I contemplated adding soy sauce to it because it wasn’t as salty as I would have liked, but it was still pretty good. The pork had a lot of flavor. Other pluses: Decent portion sizes, not expensive at all. Decent place to get greasy(American-)Chinese food. [08/22/2015:] Just tried the Sichuan dumplings and dandan noodles – both had a nice kick of spice to them and tasted great. I recommend trying these dishes!

Affordable Chinese cuisine. Fast and usually pretty good. I’ve gotten several chicken and vegetable items for carry out. And also I’ve had the St. Paul sandwich here. All have been good/decent. This isn’t going to be a shining clean place to go. It’s not perfect, but it gets the job done to feed the Chinese food cravings. It’s not a place to go on a nice first date. It’s a place to go if you want to order in for the night with a movie on the couch. I plan to go again, for sure. *I’ve only gotten carry out. Never dined in.

I came here for the first time in June. It was pretty decent(3.5 stars) Chinese take out, I had lo mein, general tso’s and yu xiang eggplant. I’m from Manhattan and New Jersey and am Cantonese so I know my cantonese chinese food as well as my cantonese chinese take out food. I logged the place as «would return for chinese take out» in my head. I ate there yesterday and found the food changed significantly and was far diverged from being even decent chinese take out. Had lo mein and szechuan tofu. The lo mein noodles weren’t lo mein noodles. They were oddly thin and orange. The sauce wasn’t right and the way the cooking was done… also off. It tasted fine/edible as food but it WASN’T chinese food by any standard. The szechuan tofu flavors and cooking style were also off and not that tasty. And the mushrooms in it were button mushrooms. Negative asian points for those mushrooms. When ordering I heard spanish spoken in the kitchen and I believe the staff were speaking an asian language that wasn’t Chinese. I have no problem with that if the staff is trained to cook the food right, but I take that as an indicator of where the food has gone wrong. Will not return.

Yuck… that pretty much sums it up. Ordered delivery online which is very simple however, they obviously do not look at the special instructions given. I asked for no msg and for my entrée to be spicy. Neither were done. Took over 45 minutes to deliver and the food is pretty bad. Although, everything was hot, it was greasy and not very appetizing.

I haven’t dined in, but I’ve had delivery many times. In a nutshell, they’ve got great food, pretty quick delivery, and good customer service. Employees are very friendly, and my order is always correct when it gets to my home… and it’s hot! The menu is pretty large and offers something for everyone. I appreciate that their hot and sour soup is vegetarian, as I don’t eat pork. **The only thing I’d warn against, is that a number of certain dishes are marked *Spicy…but if you like spicy/hot food like I do, you’ll be disappointed in the lack of heat. Several of the dishes I’ve tried so far are NOT spicy or hot at all(very tasty, but not hot)!

Whoa. I swear, this place is faster(and much cheaper) than Jimmy John’s. On my most recent visit, I called in two pickup orders as I was getting into my car at Maryland/Euclid, got there in five minutes, expecting to wait another five, but BOTH orders were already cooked, packed up properly, and ready for checkout. Talk about freaky fast. This place is not fine dining, and I used to rag on it all the time(don’t judge a book by its cover). But… I’ve seriously waited an hour for a $ 70 filet mignon at a five star steakhouse before. Five minutes at Hon’s Wok. So there you go. I think their egg rolls are really quite tasty and portion sizes are super generous for the price(I’m looking at you, West End Wok). The fried rice is heavy on soy sauce, though. On my last visit, I threw caution to the wind and got their steamed white rice – delicious, perfectly cooked, with no asian funk!(Let me explain the phenomenon behind asian funk… as a Chinese-American, you’ll have some Chinese food, usually cooked by your weird aunt, that has… a weird taste to it, either due to bad storage or general fobbiness. And the memory of that taste stays with you, always). I was pleasantly surprised here! Is it authentic? No. Is it kinda gross? Yes. The place is a total dump, the clientele is something else, and I’m never proud to admit that I come here, but for cheap Chinese takeout that’s quick and won’t kill you or make you sick, head over to Hon’s Wok, especially if you study/work in the area and forgot to pack your lunch or dinner. Protip: sneak in before 5 pm and you can still get lunch combo prices!

My current appreciation for Hon’s comes down to one point: speed. I ordered online and arrived about 15 minutes later. As I approached the counter, my order was simultaneously being bagged. I left with a fairly large box of very hot food for under $ 6. This, in the world of take out, is about as good as it gets. I can’t say that the hot braised chicken(the only dish I’ve yet to try here over the years) is the best in town(since the closing of the predecessor to Bamboo Bistro, I haven’t quite found a good carryout replacement). The sauce, an unusually bright, smooth red blend, is a little heavier and a lot sweeter than you’d expect. The latter quality overpowers whatever«hot» element you might hope for. The result is far from unpleasant though… especially for under $ 6. Like similar places, there’s little ambiance afforded by the strip mall surroundings, but that’s not why you choose Hon’s. If you’re looking for very quick, pretty good take out Chinese, this is it. If you’re looking for exceptional Americanized Chinese food, you might need to continue your search.(…or try ordering something other than the hot braised chicken…).

I’m actually a bit surprised to be writing a four star review for a dumpy little Chinese restaurant in a strip mall but they earned the review. I stopped in for a quick lunch and opted for the general’s chicken. I’m not a fan of egg foo young so the St. Paul sandwich was never really considered even though it seems to be what they are known for on Unilocal. The place was busy but there was only a short wait for my food to be prepared. It came out as a cashew chicken the first time and I received no push-back or attitude when I told the server that it wasn’t what I had ordered. On the second appearance it was exactly right. The chicken was piping hot so I started with the fried rice. Initially, it seemed like average, run of the mill fried rice but I kept tasting something a little different and finally a few bites in it dawned on me — there was a small amount of ginger in there too. Great way to elevate a relatively pedestrian side dish! The crab rangoon were pretty good but nothing that different from what you can get elsewhere. Once the chicken reached an edible temperature I discovered that it was really good. Crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked and tender on the inside. The sauce was a bit thicker than most places but that just led me to pair each bite with some fried rice. I also liked the addition of green onions as it represented another little tweak to something that is widely available. I was out the door for about $ 7 and will certainly be back…
