I tried to visit last Saturday night around 830pm. We sat down in the center of the room on the sofa and chairs. The lady bartender, a young African American woman came over asked what we would like to drink in a rather rude manner. I asked what type of Bourbons do you have, she said there’s drinks in the menu. I asked again about the Bourbon selection and she literally walked off and started waiting on other people. We sat there for 20 min and she never came back. Which is unfortunate, I’ve always wanted to visit this place. Since they were rude to us, we won’t be back.

I came here for drinks before dinner at Basso. What a cool place! I can’t wait to go back. It’s an ideal spot for a «catch up» with friends with a living room feel. It reminded me of my old faves in Silverlake(LA area) California. Staff was very friendly! I had wine but the drinks looked great and friends raved about their cocktails.

Classic, old-school English pub with a fireplace, bit chairs and a great beer selection. Not just for hotel guests, this is a great place to unwind with a beverage in mid St. Louis. Very central location, lots of parking and friendly staff.

I think«Fox and Hounds» just may be my favorite place in St. Louis. My husband and I come here quite often – and no, it’s not just because we live down the street! We love the atmosphere of this place. It is best for cold winter nights when you can sit by the fire in the dimly lit tavern and sip on your drink on the cushy leather sofa or plaid chairs. When they have jazz bands playing live, this place is the epitome of the best that St. Louis has to offer. Keep it up, «Fox and Hounds»!

What a unique place in STL! The drinks are literary inspired and well made. The atmosphere and the service is what really makes this place stand out. Stained glass, comfy chairs and sofas, chess boards, fireplaces. all combine to create a place that is both calming and stimulating. The service is amazing, even if you’re just in for a drink. The employees go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of and its all done with a genuine smile. Definitely seems more of a winter place, but the pool and patio are available in the warmer months.

Great place to drink, especially in the winter. It feels like a cozy pub in London, and they usually have some great live, instrumental music on the weekend. A truly one of a kind place in STL.

I’m staying at The Cheshire and so far I’ve spent a bit of time here, just for a drink. I got a Moscow Mule and it was two thumbs up. Great ginger flavor! The place itself is so cute and cozy. The service is also great, very friendly!

Fox & Hound is the picture perfect bar and restaurant to go to on a cold fall or winter evening. Yes, it’s great for all seasons but I kind of feel like I want to hang up my hunting rifle and put on my smoking jacket when I walk in. You know, so I can smoke a pipe while I sip from my whiskey glass? So I only went here for drinks and we sat in the«Great Hall» of the Cheshire which had more room. You can order food from here but it’s the perfect spot to enjoy fire-side drinks with friends. They had puzzles which kept half of the group entertained but I preferred the couches next to the real wood fire. The atmosphere is really what makes this place. It has old furniture and tons of old looking paintings. Their unique cocktail list is interesting to say the least. One of the drinks I tried had a giant frozen cube of Guinness beer in it! They can make you anything though… don’t have to stick to the list :) The service was top notch! They were friendly and attentive. I’ll be back. Make sure the giant bear doesn’t come alive and eat you.

Only had drinks, but they were as good as a bear roaring on his hind legs in the wilderness. Speaking of which, they have a taxidermy bear standing at about 9 ft tall in full-on roar mode. It would be cool if they allowed people to climb inside it and walk around pretending to be a bear and stuff, but I see why they don’t. Went exploring around while mi amigos spent a couple hours hammering out a puzzle and totally felt like I was in an episode of Game of Thrones or something.

This dimly lit little pub is located inside the lobby area of the hotel, The Cheshire, where we stayed during our recent St. Louis visit. My 14-year-old daughter and I LOVED relaxing at a corner table of this cozy little place, playing a quiet game of chess(the table is imprinted with a chess board design for this very purpose) while munching on sandwiches and fries. At the nearby fireplace, people were chatting and drinking. The food from the small menu was yummy, the staff were kind and helpful, shifting tables a bit to give us a spot for our food while we played our game of chess. We’re eager to return!

Fox & Hounds is handy as a pocket on a shirt for post-Basso bevvies. We walked in just as a couple was vacating the fireplace area, so we happily took over and they brought us drinks quickly. We visited for a while, but then someone(I won’t name names, Will) decided to work on a brain-bender of a puzzle. Well, I got sucked in, and couldn’t leave it, so I ended up working on the world’s most aggravating puzzle for about an hour. But I loved doing it! We all really enjoyed our drinks, except for one in our party, who ordered a kind of weird drink and then was not enjoying it. Our server took it back, no questions asked, and quickly brought a replacement. I already know that as I age and my synapses start to fail me, I’ll come back to this bizarre memory, of being surrounded by people who are oddly more familiar than seems plausible as I sit in the shadow of a giant taxidermic bear and pore over a puzzle of a tudor patio, while a frustrated Birminghamian curses loudly nearby and a German Shepard with a thirst for blood barks sharply near my ear — this memory that already feels a little bit Kubrickian — this will come to me in freak flashes in my old age, and I’ll wonder where I came up with it. I’m putting it here so I’ll remember that it was a real thing that happened in my life once.

I went here with a friend last weekend when I was in town visiting family. I had never actually been to this bar despite living down the street for most of my life so I can not attest to how it differs from the pre-renovation tavern. One should be warned that the bar is not awfully big at all. It seemed like they did have some food on the menu. I ordered a milk stout from 4hands for my friend and I. I was glad to see that the draft beer menu was not dominated by large breweries so that is much appreciated. I cannot attest to the wait staff much as I ordered at the bar and the bar tender was extremely helpful. We chatted about the peanut butter milk stout that she loves from 4hands and how she doesnt’t even like stouts to begin with. The prices here were actually pretty good when considering it was a hotel bar. It was $ 13 for two drafts pours, although I may be biased as I live in Chicago and am used to those prices.

This is the coziest place I have found yet in STL, a perfect setting for the winter months because man oh man that fireplace is great! Even though it’s inside of a hotel, it feels more like I walked into a lodge after 18 holes of golf and I can end my day with a quality scotch. The food isn’t too shabby either, the smoked salmon with capers is great and BLT(w/avocado) was outstanding and plentiful. Grab that glass of Malbec, take out your Sherlock Holmes pipe and bring your chess pieces… I love places like this!

This was our«go to» destination on snowy evenings, but they have ruined the best dish on the menu, The Fish and Chips. It used to have two nice pieces of richly battered fish. Now you get the equivalent of «Fish McNuggets with fries». Literally my thumb was as big as the pieces of fish. You’d be better to stop selling food, if that’s the best you can do. But maybe the plan is have you go to their nearby restaurants across the parking lot. But I suspect the plan is cheapen all the food, eventually.

Used to come here with my besties at night. Love all the décor here and it is sooo vintage. The music here is so my taste with light and blue style. I recommend the cocktail and baffalo chicken wings.

Any place that has Rombauer by the glass can’t be bad! This tucked away bar is a dark little getaway that is the perfect place for a drink and bar bites. I come here often when friends are staying here at the Cheshire and we love to catch up at this usually quite place :). The martinis are good when you can have the bartenders full attention or just have them poor a glass of wine… much faster! The wings are good here and the new Kale bacon dip is good for those wanting a twist on artichoke dip… the décor is old pub with crazy things on the wall… and yes I believe it is haunted here :).

Love this bar. It’s inside the Cheshire hotel. Pretty full on a Sat @ 11:30pm but seating opened up after I got my drink. Tim the bartender was awesome. No smoking inside but vaping allowed: D Pretty small but cozy like an intimate hunting lodge/pub vibe, ambient lighting, wooden walls. Music playing but not obtrusive enough to interfere with conversation. I took a panorama of the inside, Unilocal wouldn’t let me upload it, view it here: update: was told no vaping this time, maybe it depends who’s working. Bartender Spencer was badass, hooked me up with loaded fries. Friend had the wings, said they were good & pretty spicy. There’s a jazz duo playing there live now on Fri & Sat, they’re super awesome. I love this bar, it’s perfect for solo chilling/winding down after a balls day.

[PROS] + Cozy, sophisticated pub-like atmosphere + Live jazz music on weekends + Mmm fireplace [CONS] — Way overpriced, even for a hotel bar I really do love the ambience at F&H — it’s the perfect mix of cozy, dimly-lit, plushly furnished, and old-timey pub atmosphere that works well for a casual but sophisticated couple of post-dinner drinks. The last time I was here on a Friday night there was a live duo on upright bass and piano plunking down some Sinatra tunes. The atmosphere really is perfect — I only wish the drinks and service followed suit. Being a hotel bar, I sure get that prices will be steep. But not THIS steep, and certainly not this high considering none of the crafted cocktails($ 12 – 13) we tried were particularly wonderful, let alone mindblowing. I’ll give them credit for conjuring up cocktails inspired by various literary classics(e.g. «The Last Word», inspired by Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’). «The Last Word» is made with Beefeater gin, maraschino liqueur, lime & chartreuse. The drink was decent but the flavors just didn’t meld right and felt like some element was missing. I felt similarly about«The Moonstone», which I was really excited for as it featured Pisco, one of my favorite liqueurs, but this also failed to deliver. I was especially disappointed when I saw our bartender shake out a butt ton of bitters to top the drink. Bitters are meant to be «dashed» with just a sprinkling… your drink shouldn’t end up with a whole splatter of it. The last straw was being charged $ 20(TWENTY) for a pour of Balvenie 12 year. New York prices in St. Louis… NOTOKAY, hotel bar or not. $ 20 for a small pour even in NY would be a bit steep. I was pretty dismayed with the quality of our cocktails, and even more disgruntled at some pretty unprofessional behaviors from the staff behind the bar. If I am sitting at the bar and can hear and see the bartenders jostling with each other, exchanging some«you know you’re not supposed to ____» followed by «shut up» and«no, you shut up»… something is not quite right. I’d be willing to give F&H another chance, maybe to try the food, get some of those yardstick beers and try a few more cocktails, esp. because I like the environment so much. But we probably would avoid getting any whiskeys or scotches given the exorbitant prices.

Grab your smoking jacket — you know, the corduroy one with the patches on the elbow — and head on over to the Fox & Hound for a drink by the fireplace. The dimly-lit room, combined with couches and chairs strategically grouped to make a very small place feel intimate, just screams smoking jacket! I love this place when its cold outside for the coziness it provides. It always seems busy, but that’s probably due to the fact that it’s connected to a hotel. If you get a seat away from the busy bar, though, life is good. Red wine comes in small, single-serving carafes along with a giant red wine glass to pour it in when you sit down, which pleases me to no end. This is an excellent place to warm your bones and sooth whatever else ails you with a nice, stiff drink.

Once I get past all the dead animals on the walls, I love this place very much. It’s like sitting in a lodge in the middle of the woods. There’s something about this bar. It’s so cozy, so relaxing, so dark and mysterious… I’m not sure what it is that gets me every time, but I keep coming back for more. During the winter when the fireplace is lit, don’t even get me started. This time of year, though, I get to enjoy the pool… I don’t know which I love more. Who would ever think a tiny bar in a hotel would be so great? It’s one of those places I’m glad I live close to and I’m glad a lot of people don’t know about. The cheese plate, burger, fish & chips and lamb sliders are all my top choices on the menu, and I pair it with a finely crafted gimlet from the bar. They also have a great wine and beer list that you really can’t go wrong with. Stop by Fox & Hounds for a comforting, satisfying dinner or for a romantic drink at the bar. Rumor has it that when the bar at the pool is completed this week, you can stay at the pool all day as long as you spend $ 15. Now that’s something I can get behind.
