Overall good experience. My husband and I went on New Year’s Eve and also stayed at the hotel. Food– I liked being able to find higher end choices in food and wine. We had shrimp cocktail and the fried pork belly. The presentation for the shrimp wasn’t good(served on I think a giant metal pizza pan that was kind of banged up) but Pork belly was really nice with a sweet glaze. I had the filet. It was a little rarer than I like but not enough to send back. My husband had the twin lobster tails. Presentation not good but tasted good. For dessert we had the gooey butter cake — delicious! Just a little pricey for what we got. Service was excellent! Our server seemed very knowledgeable about the menu and was quick with recommendations like wine pairings. Ambiance is where I think some improvement could be made. It was very dark and maybe they are trying for a romantic vibe but customers were bringing in small children. I’m not opposed to kids at all but I wasn’t expecting it considering the menu, prices and date.

Came here for brunch and wasn’t particularly impressed. Food was fine. Portion size was small for most items and were a bit pricey. I had the lemon ricotta French toast and it was pretty good. Service wasn’t memorable. Atmosphere was nice though. I don’t see any reason to return.

I just read that the Restaurant is closing and re-opening as a new concept very soon but I do have to say, it’s pretty fantastic just as it is. They have a very well done lunch menu with a great diversity of seasonal options. Like everything at The Cheshire, The Restaurant is very classy and has a pricier dinner menu but has a reasonable lunch menu. Aimee K and I had, for starters, the Crudo and Pork Belly served on grits. The Crudo was delicious and seasoned with balsamic-y sauce. The pork belly was fatty and savory on top of perfectly cooked grits. For my meal I went with the chicken sandwich that came with almonds and a fresh salad(gotta watch my figure during the holidays). At the end of our meal we couldn’t resist the chocolate putting cake with a pumpkin ice cream on top. I paired it with a cup of coffee and it was heavenly. I’m excited to see what they’re doing with this place!

My boyfriend and I were staying at the Cheshire for the weekend for his 30th birthday so we came to the restaurant for a nice dinner. While the hotel was great, the restaurant was disappointing to say the least. We are a rather young looking couple so we sometimes don’t get great service because nice places don’t think we can afford it(which we obviously could). After we were seated, we were waiting a good 10 minutes for our waiter as we watched tables seated much later get seated first. Our waiter never came, but a waitress from a different section was so apologetic about what happened she made it worth our time and started serving us. While she was amazing, saved our night, and deserved her 40% tip, the food wasn’t great. For a $ 25 chicken I expect close to perfection, but it was extremely dry. Neither of us could finish it and ended up eating someplace else afterwards. The ONLY reason that I am giving 3 stars is for that waitress and I wish I remembered her name.

Went here recently for a private party and was duly impressed, great food in an outstanding setting. I had a vegetarian risotto and it was excellent, there was a bit of ginger in the stock which made it interesting. Drinks were good too. We were in the private dining room which is intimately decorated and looks like it can support a variety of functions for a small group. The whole restaurant looks great, I am glad this historic building complex was able to be revitalized! The service was exceptional too. I was great too to have someone at the party talk about their experiences working at the place when it was Medart’s!

BRUNCH review I’ll admit that this place was not on my brunch radar at all, until some friends came into town and stayed at this hotel. Well it definitely is now. This place is pretty great. The space and atmosphere is really nice and modern with great booths. Even the bathroom was really nice. Also, it wasn’t crowded at all. Is there anything more irritating than waiting in a brunch line? If you want to be a bit decadent, start out with the beignets($ 7), which come with a strawberry-cardamom sauce that is *really* good. These aren’t typical French beignets, more like beignet-dippers. You get about 8 pieces so it’s great for sharing. I lucked out and ordered one of the best egg dishes I’ve had in a long time — the sausage & pickled-red onion frittata. It came out beautifully presented in a mini-cast iron skillet on a wood block, accompanied with some tortilla for making little egg&cheese-tacos. The flavors in this were absolutely incredible, from the herbs in the sausage, the tangy onions, everything really. And at $ 10 it was one of the lesser-priced entrees. HIGHLY recommend this. I tried some prime-rib hash that was damn good. Unfortunately there was also a pretty big misstep, 2 people ordered a mushroom/spinach/goat cheese omelette that was devoid of any real flavor… just really boring. Given the quality of the other items this was pretty surprising. Though the sides of cheddar grits & home-fries were both winners. Service was great, they brought out some cut fruit for a friend’s baby on request and split checks for us. Definitely check out that frittata…

We held our wedding rehearsal dinner at the Restaurant in Cheshire Inn in St. Louis, Missouri. Mary Beth helped with the arrangements and did an excellent job. We had a separate room in the restaurant area called the Red Room. We added a few decorations but room was set up so nicely, we really did not have to do anything if we had not wanted to. We had just over 40 people there was plenty of room for mingling even with all the dining room tables and bar set up. The Restaurant staff was friendly, considerate and helpful. The food was excellent. Nicki was bartender and did an excellent job. Brian was our banquet captain and made sure everything ran smoothly. We received many compliments from guests about the food and service. No hidden surprises, the bill was exactly what was discussed.

We have dined at The Restaurant at Cheshire 4 times in the past and always had excellent food and service. It was, therefore, hard to believe this was the same restaurant as you will see below. The evening began with an absent valet parking attendant, which was not the end of the world, but still disappointing. Cheshire has been known for their superb prime rib with Yorkshire pudding for decades. Noticing it absent from the menu, we inquired and were told that in the summer it is only offered on weekend nights. Not the end of the world, but disappointing. But the real poor service began at that point. We always bring wine to restaurants and pay a corkage fee, which is fine. But it is not fine if we pay the fee and still have to use our own cork screw to open our wine, then pour and refill our wine and use the same glassware for each type of wine. In the past this was never the case, but it was during this visit. Since there was no prime rib, I chose the duck as my main course. But when I ordered the duck, I was told there was no duck that night. So I arrived wanting the prime rib, settled for the duck and then had to try to outguess the menu and find an item they actually had. I settled on the seafood gumbo, while the others at my table had halibut, tuna and chicken. All were happy with the food, including the salads. But the service started slow and spotty and only got worse. Jeff was clearly annoyed that we arrived with friends, ready to «dine» rather than rush through dinner. Plates were cleared the minute the last bite was consumed. Dinner with tip was over $ 300 for our party of four and when we visit restaurants like this, we do so planning to enjoy the experience and not be rushed. After the last plates were cleared Jeff asked if we were ready for our check. No offer of coffee or dessert was made, so we asked. We were told the chef had gone home and there were no desserts. Mind you, our reservation and arrival were 8:00 and it was only 9:40 at that point. We asked if there was at least some ice cream and Jeff then said he might be able to find a piece of bread pudding, but it would not be served warm. The four of us split a scrawny piece of cool bread pudding and again, no coffee was offered. At precisely 10:00, the lights in the restaurant were turned up to full brightness, clearly telling us they had enough of our being there. We failed to rush to pay the check and run out the door and five minutes later an employee started moving the light dimmer back and forth, creating bright and then dim lighting. This went on for 10 minutes and we finally had enough and left. This was our friends’ first visit to Cheshire. They vowed that they won’t go back and we could not agree more.

I came in last week with my husband the day after we got married to have a nice dinner while staying at the Cheshire. The woman who greeted us was extremely sweet and the front bar bartender seemed very nice and attentive and greeted us when we came in and left. When we were seated it seemed like we were going to be in for an amazing dining experience. Unfortunately, it ended there. Our waiter took forever to come over even tho there was only 4 other occupied table. When he was with us he looked disinterested. I ordered the seafood gumbo. I love gumbo, but this was something I would not recommend to anyone. The shrimp tasted canned but I knew it was must have been fresher since none of them were deveined. I doubt I would try this place again, so unfortunate since it’s next to the most amazing hotel.

Wow. So blown away by the Front desk service. We have a large group coming in next week and we stopped by to make sure we were set. Dave not only verified all the rooms, but gave us his cell phone to check in before we came since he would not be there until we arrived. Who does that anymore? Yay Dave. Yay Cheshire! Recommend to all!

I came to this place for lunch. OMG The service was great, the atmosphere was even better. My waiter was very friendly and funny. My drink never hit a 1⁄3 empty before he was right there to fill it up. He really made my guest and I feel comfortable and welcome. PLEASE– try the kale smoked bacon dip!!! You will NOT be disappointed! I left you a guide map photo in case you could use assistance to find it!(I would have put a photo, but it was gone before I knew it !! Lol **Tip: you will feel most comfy in business attire or higher :)

We went to the backlot Hi Pointe Theatre and we wanted to grab a late lunch. The hostess was standing at her station and looked funny at my friend and I and asked«Can I help you? Yes we replied we would like to eat, she sighed out loud and said Hmm I dont know if I should feed you lunch or dinner…» Seriously we have money and your door says you are open. They sat us at in a booth, which was fine but apparently only skinny people should sit in the booth, because the hostess had to pull the table out so I could slide in and then my friend. Awkward… Once we were seated the hostess brought us some water and then NOTHING… There was one other table of people that were being served. The hostess came back and asked if we were ready to order, yep we better grab the chance because no one else is going to serve us. We ordered the cheese platter for two, the wedge salad and a BLAT(bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato). The one server Tiffany brought our cheese platter, no one explained to us what kind of cheese we had on the platter, or what any of the spreads were and if they were candied walnuts or pecans. Tiffany brought our sandwich and we were asking questions about the cheese platter. She felt so bad, she had no idea what was on the platter, bad bad bad. Not once did anyone ask us if we wanted something else to drink besides water, we were not offered a desert menu. The food was good, but the service, if that is what you call it was not so good.

Unlike the actual hotel, this is definitely a 5 star restaurant! The wait people are attentive, knowledgeable and very friendly. Food was excellent, both times we had come here.

Had lunch here twice while in town for work. I tried a salad the first day and a chicken sandwich the second — both were really good. My coworker had the duck pasta and the fish and chips — he said they were both delicious as well. I also tried the nitro stout from a local brewery and fell in love. The atmosphere of this hotel/restaurant/Starbucks area is just adorable and fun. I loved the décor and the feeling that you were hidden away. I’ll definitely be back when I return to St Louis!

Came here this past Sunday. My only regret was not getting what my wife ordered(the cabernet braised short rib with white cheddar grits subbed for the mashed potatoes). Next time I won’t care if we both order the same thing. A perfect place for a Sunday dinner. Wonderful experience. Also, the pork belly over same white cheddar grits with carmelized red onion could have been an entre.

Really, a 4.5. The space is outstanding. They have done an amazing job renovating this restaurant and turning it into a fun, classy, entertaining environment. The food has been somewhere between good and great each time we had gone. But we’ve also always had a great time. Lively bar up front makes for an entertaining evening. Worth going to enjoy the environment and try the food, great to have this restaurant back!

The food was delicious! We went for brunch — I got the cheeseburger and my husband got the bacon, egg and avocado sandwich. The only thing I thought was weird — I wanted to swap sides, and instead of just up-charging me, they charged me for an entire side.

I went here for brunch Sunday around 11:30am and was quite impressed. The interior is nicely furnished with dark wood, clear glass, clean tablecloths, and deep plush seats. There was the added benefit of being able to move the booth seats where we felt comfortable. The lighting and dark finishes made for an almost rustic lodge feel, yet it still felt chic and cozy somehow, as if it where chillier outside than it actually was and we’d stopped by at a mysterious isolated mountaintop restaurant. Also, the floor-to-ceiling glass wine cellar in the middle of the restaurant was incredibly impressive. I loved staring at the tall reels of wine that convey bottles down to the waiters at the push of a button. Our waiter was attentive, but not overbearing, and soft spoken with an air of finery that commanded my attention. He didn’t hover and took our orders without fuss and kept our waters and coffee full. All of our orders came correctly as ordered. My kind of guy. I asked for the Eggs Royal and was not disappointed. The hollandaise sauce was thick and creamy with dill sprinkled throughout — a new touch I had never seen before. Below were slices of soft salmon.(They were not cooked, so don’t picture them as flaky. Think sashimi but on a potato cake.) The spinach was served on the side, and it came salted, which was also new for me. Making a bite with all the pieces hearkened to fish eggs, with the combination of salty and creamy. The potato cake base was buttery and lightly fried — slightly crispy around the edges with a mushy inside. I ordered a coffee as well — nothing special, but served in a nice teacup. Our table was served rolls with butter, which I found unusual considering the time. They weren’t worth the effort though, as they essentially amounted to filler food. Don’t bother. Maybe they offer them in an attempt to make the place more worth your money, as the Eggs Royal was $ 15. I understand it has salmon and it’s beautifully plated and tastes amazing, but for the amount of food on mine and my fellow diners’ plates, the prices were a little high. I would get the Eggs Royal again for sure. And I would also like to go back to try the cheese plate and beignets… once I save up my money.

I visited«The Restaurant at The Cheshire» on Sunday for brunch with a couple friends. Here are my thoughts: * This place is fancy! And the staff is excellent and very attentive. * If you check-in on Unilocal, you get 10% off your order. :) * The entrance to «The Restaurant» is a bit hard to find… because the only identifying characteristic is that their front door has«The Restaurant» on it in big bold red letters. * The French Fries are to die for! They are the perfect amount of crispy-ness and seasoned to perfection. Make sure you order them as a side. * I ordered the Cheshire Burger… it was really good but they lose a star because I ordered my burger«Medium»…it was not cooked Medium. They cooked it at Medium Rare because there was still quite a bit of pink in the meat. It still tasted great, but I just wish they had listened to my order correctly or understood what«Medium» really is. Overall, I’d love to visit this place again, potentially for after-work drinks or a mid-afternoon snack.

Beautiful setting, great service, fantastic food! My parents and I went here for dinner Saturday night with a 6pm reservation. Dad had the halibut, mom the salmon, my bf the duck and I had the scallops. My mom didn’t care for the side dish the salmon came with and upon request the server said since all dishes are made to order she could pick a different side. Very accommodating. All of us greatly enjoyed our meal! My scallops were cooked perfectly and the corn, tomato, bacon risotto it came on tasted awesome. Had a bite of my bf’s duck and kept bartering my dish for more bites if his. So very good!

Definitely make a reservation. Park elsewhere or be prepared for $ 4 valet being your only parking choice. Tons of wines by the glass, full bar. Great service! Is it weird to add that the bathroom is really nice-looking? The cheese platter for a share-able starter is absolutely excellent! Great quality, plenty to go around. We did 4 cheese for 4 people for $ 16. Our server brought us more complimentary bread, which we used after our cheese plate bread was done. My dirty martini(using Chopin vodka) was $ 13, and my husband’s Chopin on the rocks was also $ 13. I had a sparkling red, which comes in its own little bottle, for $ 10. This was a decent value. My New York strip($ 38) was very good and cooked well. The crispy potatoes were incredibly good, and I usually find brussel sprouts to be bitter but not the ones that came with this steak. I shared a crème brûlée($ 7) for dessert, which was good as well. See photos of the steak, the bottle of sparkling red, and the crème brûlée.
