For the first time in a long time I’m actually satisfied with some fried rice. I placed a rather large order by phone & the food was ready when I arrived about 10 minutes later. For it to have been late evening the rice was fresh tasting and delicious. I ordered a half order of special fried rice & there was plenty of meat, thinly sliced just how I like it. The veggies were a little thick but that didn’t take away from the great flavor. I also ordered a ham st Paul which was not bad at all. No rice order is complete without Crab Rangoon but I will have to take off for the crab Rangoon. The filling was too crabby and the outside was fried too hard. Another plus is that Big L’s is one of the few places that still offer a free soda with your order. I can appreciate that & I will be returning.

I give the food a 5, but have to come down a point based on the girl behind the counter. She simply is not happy to be there, or at least does not show it. She shows no gratitude for the people frequenting the store. I’ve never been thanked. I’m more of a hindrance than anything. And it isn’t just me. I watch her deal with everybody the same way. If you like good food, come here, but only if you don’t mind less than good counter service. I’m probably done here.

Chinese takeout, chop suey, or chinamen. Regardless of what you call it make sure you call it good. Here you get the classic St. Louis«dark» fried rice and fast, friendly service to boot. Being in close proximity to the airport it is worth the trip down the road for some St. Louis flavor. The portions here are fair. The food is always fresh. And unlike other local chop sueys I’ve never heard of anyone getting sick from this one. I always order from here when I’m in town. Plus they still carry Vess sodas(another local favorite) Yes they accept credit cards with a $ 10 minimum purchase. They also offer a free drink with purchases over $ 14 No General Tso here, here, we call it hot braised chicken. And please please try the St. Paul sandwich.

I liked this little restaurant. The dinning area was clean and simple. The woman who took my order was friendly and helpful. I ordered the General Tso’s chiken(my usual at any Chinese restaurant). General Tso’s comes as a combo meal. This means it comes with a fried rice, a drink, and side. I didn’t get to choose the side. It was something like fried cheese? It was good. The drink seems to be limited to an off brand, fruit flavored pop, don’t expect a Pepsi product. Personally, i didn’t mind the limited drink selection. The fried rice was amazing! The main dish lacked spice, the heat General Tso’s is known to have. However, I was given a pack of red pepper powder. I applied the powder liberally. It helped. The overall taste was of the dish was fantastic. This place is worth trying.

Dericious fwy wice! Was the area a bit sketch? Yes. Do I care? No. The portions were generous enough to feed the beast in me. Lots of veggies in the fried rice, not that anyone eating Chinese is on a health kick. I commute in to St. Louis and I will be back to haunt this place again with my obese appetite.

So I usually go to a different Chinese joint if my mom is ordering which is very Good also. But I always get big L when I’m over my in laws house. My usual is chicken fried rice no onion and of course crab Rangoon(they have really Good crab Rangoon) .one of the ladies at the front counter can already know what we’re ordering when we come in. I think what really ties me here is that they’re open Sundays which my usual place is not. Don’t forget to get a vess soda(grape or fruit punch) because no Chinese trip is complete without it.

St. Louis fried rice is like no other city. Big L is my neighborhood(near the airport) go-to spot for that good, «dark» rice. No peas and carrots in these boxes, and reasonably priced, as it should be.(I’m giving the side eye to a newly-popular, high-priced NoCo rice joint that offers pretty much the same«dark rice» you can get at other places.) Quick, friendly service, great for ordering to-go. My usuals: Fried Rice: Generous portions on the half-order. Comes with egg, green onion, diced onion, and plenty of meat of your choice. Just as good plain. Egg foo young: Half order comes with 2 big egg patties with meat of your choice in brown gravy with steamed rice on the side(fried rice extra). I’ve had the gravy be a bit on the salty side *once*, for my taste. Cook’s error, I’m sure. Combo plates: Come with side of fried rice and 2 crab rangoon(which aren’t too sweet as I’ve had from other places). I usually get the hot braised chicken wings(bone-in) which are tossed in a tangy sauce that isn’t too spicy. St. Paul sandwich: Good hearty sammich here. Big egg foo young patty with meat of your choice on white sandwich bread. Dressed with lettuce, pickle, & mayo. Duck and noodles: Tender noodles with juicy duck pieces in a dark, soy broth with onions. Good noodle soup. Add a Vess soda(peach!) to any of the above and your STL rice experience is complete. Make it official by requesting a side of egg foo young gravy to go over your fried rice. Instant hood delicacy. Oh, and have you ever tried an almond cookie?

Me and my friends all had chicken dishes, 2 hot braised chicken boneless and one sesame chicken. The hot braised chicken was rubbery, but the sesame chicken was way worse. If you still decide to eat here after reading this review, then bring a strong fork, the cheap plastic one wont cut it. Crab rangoon, ive had it better anywhere else. Cost $ 13 for 2 dishes 4 crab rangoon, 2 sodas and 2 sides of fried rice Was it cheap? Yes, but I still wouldnt eat here again. Chinamen is bad for you, so I expect it to at least taste good.

This is prob. the best chinese I have found in the area. The food is very good, but my only complaint I have is with the rice portion on the combination plate.(very small) I would preffer less chicken more rice.

Sombody was nice enough to get me a to go order of Hunan Beef from this place today. The well peppered dish(10 peppers) was huge and came with 2 good sized crab rangoons. The problem came with the size of the ingredients. Some pieces broccoli were three bites and I can eat large bites. So just a warning, get a knive or a friend that can keep you from chocking. 2 out of the other 3 guys got bug eyed when the other mentioned going there and both got the fried chicken and devoured them without sharing… I guess it was good(Thanx T)
