Bar Louie

In the area for appointment today decided to try the bar and grill because it was close and we were pleasantly surprised.
If you like lunch with a little spice, try the chicken tortilla soup. Excellent fish tacos with black beans and rice. Burgers is impressive with flavor. While the menu appears to have standard bar food the cuisine is anything but standard. The restaurant is big so there was no wait for a seat during the weekday lunch.

Location is perfect but management is clearly not. Dollar burger Tuesdays are the only time I would recommend coming here. Otherwise you can tell the business is run poorly in most aspects. If you’re going to be eating in Central West End, pick another place. So many other great options!

This space is HUGE, so it’s a wonder that the staff can keep track of all the customers running around! This is probably part of the reason service is a bit slow.
Bar Louie is a standard bar — average to high prices for drink and bar food. There is plenty of space for everyone, so I guess it’s good for large groups. The food portions are giant (I enjoyed the nachos)! There is nothing spectacular about this place though.

Pssst. PSSSST. I have a secret. Tuesday’s at Bar Louie is $ 1.00 hamburger night. From 5:00p.m. until it closes. And it’s a regular size hamburger!
We were lucky that we were able to find two seats at the bar. We started with cocktails. Mine was a strawberry peach Bellini that went down like candy. We ordered boneless chicken wings buffalo style. Is it really a chicken wing if there’s no bone in it? A very mild buffalo sauce but they gave you extra on the side. Oh, there was a happy hour price for those also.
Onto the burgers. They come with lettuce and if you want cheese, tomato, etc. each add-​on costs an additional 25 cents. You can also get fries or tots for a small price. It was a very good hamburger. If you’re a big guy, you can order two because they only cost a dollar each.
Now this review is only for Tuesday nights. It’s such a great deal that you can’t pass it up.
Would I go back there? If it’s Tuesday, yes.

They have a teally good pear salad but its always a bunch of nets flying around on the inside yuck.

Eh. It’s okay. The location is great and close to me which is probably why I even still go here. The food is okay but the service is awful. The several times I’ve gone there everything has been slow, like painfully slow. And it’s not packed or anything so I have no clue why the food takes forever. The waiters are always nice but that doesn’t make up for how long the wait can be. I don’t really go here for just drinks so maybe that’s what it’s best for, not for a quick bite to eat.

Staff over all is very friendly… the drinks are fine. The food however is awful! I’ve gotten sick on a SALAD before, not to mention the portions on the salads are never consistent, my friend got sick on their shrimp and the other night I got artichoke dip and literally half of it was burnt to the bowl! Needless to say I’m done giving them chances, I never like to write off a restaurant because of one bad experience but this has been several. Unless someone come in and fixes the way they «take care» of and prepare food I’ll definitely never be back there. Too many amazing local restaurants that care about the quality of their food in St Louis to waste money and dinner at this place when I’m only going to puke it up later.

The place looks amazing! Customer service sucked. Food was decent, I got the Tuscan chicken which I didn’t like too much but my boyfriend got the lemon chicken and it was perfect!!! Customer service was horrible!!! The lady was rushing and we were still ordering food and midsentence-​she just walked away! Kept rushing us when the whole place was dead, it was 11pm and there was like two other customers so we aren’t sure where she was always rushing to.

Ryan the bartender was the BEST server. He really treated me on my bday like a queen! And my guest too! So glad I found this spot. I’m from San Diego and it was nice to see that type of friendly attitude in STL. We loved Ryan!!! We will be back for a Friday night boogie!

This place was horrible. The service was atrocious. We waited for over 25 minutes for someone to take our order, and then had to go ask someone to wait on us. The girl spent another 5 – 10 minutes looking for our server, who never showed up. The girl did wait on us, but not willingly. And they weren’t even real busy. The food was okay at best, but the orders were all screwed up. Everyone ordered burgers and either tots or fries. When I got my burger, they’d forgotten my fries. When they finally did arrive, I had already finished my burger. But the fries were great, just not worth all the crap service and wasted time. Definitely skip this place!

Bar Louie is an average place to get burgers and cocktails. I have been here multiple times, and left feeling like it was OK. I have only been during the day, when it wasn’t busy. The sad thing is, the service is incredibly slow, and the waiters not very attentive. It seems to be the theme for most of these reviews. I have no idea why. The food is pretty good, not very creative, but if you want burgers and a drink, it’s a decent place. Their burgers are tasty, and they serve tots with the sandwiches. I love tots, so that’s a plus for them. They are perfectly crispy and seasoned. I think it would be worth it to go back for their happy hour, they have decent deals then. I had the pulled pork sandwich, and it was flavorful. Plenty of pork, cheese, and sauce to make most people happy. My husband had the chicken wrap, which he said was really good as well. I guess since St. Louis has a lot of good burger joints, this one falls low on my scale. It’s just average and not very creative.

I used to work here. Loved the place and did everything I could to make it a better place for people around the beautiful central west end area to go party! The staff is great, but there are so many things that need to be fixed. I would recommend this spot to anyone who needs a quick drink. Not a place to enjoy multiple drinks, party, or expect amazing service. There are so many great things to say about this place, and I constantly come back. However, it could be one of the best bars in the central west end area, but unfortunately has such a bad reputation for horrible service that it is hard to get the amazing crowd that used to come here daily!

One of the worst places in CWE. Food is terrible, service is similar to that of Hellen Keller. Choose any place other than this. The management of his place does such a terrible job and I never write bad reviews but this is definitely a first after 3 years of terrible experience,

This place is a nightmare. Everything seems dirty, especially the bathrooms.
We spent $ 60 on wings & rock hard pretzels and it was dreadfully slow service.

This place is great! I needed a charger for my phone and Deon hooked me up. I’m not talking about like, «yeah, we have one of those chargers». No, Deon searched high and low to hook me up. He dug through crevices that no one knew existed and went to the end of the earth to find me what I needed. He basically made my entire night.
I haven’t had the food yet, but Deon saved my life. I will come back again to have him save my life when I’m in need.

Location is key, but when you offer horrible service consistently (twice in 4 days — shame on us for returning), play bad music, make gross drinks, and the burger buns are hockey pucks — you know it’s a poorly managed restaurant with inexperienced, untrained floor staff.
As a former bartender, waitress, and hostess, I was appalled. On the second visit, 2 of my friends sat outside. I said, «I’ll run into the bar real quick for 3 drinks — it may be awhile to get service out here.» I went to the bar and watched the female bartender clean the tops of liquor bottles with a dirty rag for 45 seconds while I tried to call her attention. Then 2 men approached the bar, and she immediately turned around to serve them. I politely smiled and waved to her and they smiled to me and gave me the floor, as I was there first. Ok, at least I’m ordering! She takes my order (2 cocktails, 1 draft beer), turns to the computer, types it in, slaps my check in front of me then turns to take the 2 guys’ order. WHAT! Ok I politely say, «Would you mind making mine, please?» She said, «I have a system.» Oh… Hahaha!!! She pours the 2 guys’ draft beers and mine. They pay and leave. She finally gets to my cocktails! Makes them on the cooler in front of her, not on the bar top — a bartender no-​no. Finally hands them over (after trying/​failing 3 times to add a lemon to the rim of the cup… pathetic, I had to call her off) and both martini glasses have lipstick smudges.
15 minutes later I get outside with our 3 drinks. No server has approached my friends’ outdoor table, mind you there are other customers out there being «served.»
I could go on and on about the horrible waitress and 2 hour experience outside, but you understand. We each walked inside and back out to retrieve water refills, silverware, and condiments. It was kinda funny… each outdoor-​seated customer noticed and had some fun jabs on the awfulness that was and is Bar Louie in the CWE.
On Thursday, 2 days later — my boyfriend’s debit card is charged 3 times for the same meal… And has had to call and follow up twice with different managers; one of which («Daylen» sp?) told him she is not well-​versed in her computer system to process debit card returns and to call Brandon on Tuesday… who he had already spoken to and Brandon didn’t call him back. That’s a full 7 days after the bad experience. And no resolution expected in sight…
Do not go here.
I know it’s «trendy» and convenient when you’re in Maryland Plaza. But unless they get new management and decide to properly train their wait staff (EVERYONE — hosts, servers, bartenders, bussers, etc), it’s a completely pathetic excuse for a bar and restaurant.

My boyfriend and I decided to try Bar Louie out last night since neither of us had ever been. For an appetizer we went with the Beef Brisket Sliders (sliced beef brisket, peach moonshine barbecue sauce, pickles, topped with grilled pear slaw), and oh my Cher, were they amazeballs! The beef brisket was nice and tender, and the marriage of the bbq sauce and tangy slaw was unbelievably perfect! We were both very happy with just the appetizer alone that we’d consider ordering two of those for our entrees (they also come with your choice of fries or tots – get the tots!).
For our entrees, I went with the chicken melt sandwich. It was pretty amazing as well. Word to the wise, be prepared to unhinge your jaws to eat it because the chicken breast plus breading is huge!
My boyfriend went with the ginger shrimp lettuce wraps. I didn’t try them but he thoroughly enjoyed his meal.
Our overall experience with Bar Louie was awesome and our server, Jo (ana) was extremely friendly and helpful. We will be back!

Great late night place! Serve their full menu till close, banging music and fantastic drinks with friendly and attentive service! Food was delicious all around. Jameson and well whisky are apparently the same price and our server upgraded me like he knew me, it was great!

Kristina was our server. I was with a large party, getting drinks and food. We sat in the back section waiting for a while, and Kristina came by and we asked if she could take our orders, and she did. Another server who was supposed to be covering the area finally came by after Kristina took our order. She took good care of us and our drinks were nice and strong. The happy hour specials are awesome, and she even came over and reminded us to place our order right before happy hour ended.
