This is hands down the worst Philly I have ever had. There was barely any meat, not enough cheese to taste, and enough grease to almost drown with each bite. To be fair though, the menu here has great variety. It’s a shame a place with pretty decent bread has to have such downfalls in filling it up.

The Cajun bacon is amazing! Also had the chicken soup once that blew my mind the broth was incredible! Great place!

My only regret is not discovering this place sooner. I work nearby and went here today for the first time. They were very busy which was a good sign. I was worried that it would take a long time to get my sandwich and head out the door, but the line moved fast, and I was barely finished putting the lid on my drink when they handed me my sandwich to go. Mesquite turkey and smoked bacon sandwich, with avocado, marinade tomato, with balsomic aioli. I had mine on wheat berry instead of french. Portion was great, very large sandwich bread, thick cut, plenty of turkey and layer of bacon. The ovocado was fresh and green, and if you like tomato, you will love theirs!!! Tasted like sun dried tomatoes just about. Great chip selection. The deli itself is very cool, granite chunk tile floor, and paintings cover the walls, of Einstein, Hendrix, Marley, Elvis, and more.

Pretty decent for a quick sandwich fix really close to work. Bread could use some improvement, as well as options with more veggies. I appreciate the option of getting fruit as a side!

There is nothing like going to a restaurant that treats every course as a special. I had the Philly cheese steak and even though they offer many speciality subs, it was still just as good. The bread is toasted to perfection and the seasoned steak and cheese melt in your mouth. I would suggest this to anyone in the area who is tired of the cookie cutter chains and wants to try something new. You won’t feel out of your depth because as I mentioned earlier not only do they have a variety of specialty subs they still offer the classics. The people there are also very friendly and gladly welcome newcomers. So hope this helps anyone with an empty belly and a taste for some toasty subs.

Favorite sandwich place in STL. My friends live on the same street so we eat there a lot and we are always greeted with the best customer service(the guys know our favorite orders by heart now!) and the service is FAST. The Ninth Street Special is my favorite sandwich although the special subs are also always good too. The bread is always fresh, hot sandwiches are always hot, and the atmosphere is great.

Hard to believe 9th Street Deli isn’t more crowded when coming here. Great food, great view outside to Soulard neighborhood & fun staff. Fresh cookies to end your lunch is icing on the cake!

The people are always super nice. The food is reasonable and really good. Quick service. I would recommend adding Cajun bacon to everything… EVERYTHING. It’s the sweet nectar of life and should have monuments built in the name of this holy meat.

One of my most favorite lunch-time places to get a good sandwich. And do I mean GOOD — they offer perhaps the best tasting sandwiches anywhere. Well, I should admit I’ve only tried two of them: today it was the Italian, and before that it was the Taco Fiesta sandwich. The Taco Fiesta was the first sandwich I tried on my very first visit, and it was excellent. I then kept ordering that one on repeat visits! But I have no doubt the other menu items are just as excellent. Service is quick, the place is neat and clean. The outdoor tables on the sidewalk are great when the weather is nice. I always worry about restaurants which are only open weekdays for lunch, because I wonder how viable that is for a business model. I understand why they do it, of course. But I hope 9th St. Deli is around for a long time, I plan to return often!

Tons of menu choices. Hot cold, sandwiches salads. I had the bacon turkey sandwich, which was delicious. We ate inside because of the heat. Many people came in for carry outs. I had four people in my party and everyone walked away happy with their bellies full. They are a Pepsi place, this gives me a sad face.

The food was really excellent here. The chili especially was well done and homemade. The pastrami tasted like it was not made in-house, so that was a bit of a disappointment. Overall I would go to this local deli over anything commercial if I wanted a great sandwich.

I love this place for a few reasons — close to work, great food and unique from their mass produced competition! I have hand sandwiches many times but I highly recommend the half sandwich and soup. Get the chili as it is really awesome. The past few times I’ve visited, I’ve actually just gotten the chili and some Zapp’s chips(another perk — Zapp’s chips can be difficult to find in STL!!!) and it has been and excellent meal. Seriously do yourself a favor and get this chili. Very meaty and one of my favorites. The half sandwich with chili is an awesome value so highly recommended!

Even though I have lived in Soulard for over 2 years I finally made a visit to 9th Street Deli last weekend! Why did it take so long? I can’t believe I have missed out on such a great sandwich within walking distance for all this time. When I arrived to 9th Street Deli it appeared to be closed which made me sad since I had finally made the time to visit. But once I got closer I realized that they were in fact open and the guy at the counter was excited for a customer! I had never looked at the menu before so I had to browse for a few minutes before ordering. I decided on the Mediterranean chicken(toasted) and a bag of chips. He took my order and the kitchen began to work. I grabbed a drink and found a nice table by the window to sit at while I waited. The guy from the register brought my sandwich over to me when it was done and made sure I had everything I needed. I took my first bite and knew that I had made the right choice. The customer service was good, the location is awesome, and the sandwich was delicious! I will be back.

I put the deli in infidelity! My yeeps know how much I love Blues City Deli. It’s my second home. However, when I do decide to branch out and try another delicatessen, that place will undoubtedly get compared to my home base. Perhaps it’s not fair, but life ain’t fair, yeeps! When you open a delicatessen exactly one mile away from the BCD, you’re asking for a comparison. Ninth Street Deli is maybe two blocks away from my home, but I had been putting my visit off for quite some time. I had stalked their website a few times, but no trip was ever put into effect. Today that visit finally happened. One thing that has kept me from 9th Street is the prices. The average cost of a sandwich without any sides is about eight dollars. Eight dollars at BCD can get me a quality sandwich, chips, and a drink. The comparison might have ended there, but today’s special at Ninth Street was(drum roll) THEPASTRAMI! I don’t take my pastrami lightly. It would appear that this unholy union between me and this sandwich was destiny! Elicia K. ordered the Ninth Street Special, a shredded beef sandwich, jazzed up with pepperjack, garlic, and caramelized onions. She seemed to enjoy her sammy. However, my pastrami fell into line with my expectations, which were low. The marbeled rye was pretty dry, and the grilled onions did little to help the cause. And worst of all, the pastrami did not pop! All in all, a flat sandwich. Immediately, I felt remorse. I could have stayed true to my sexy, monogamous relationship with Blues City Deli, but instead went on a date with her lesser attractive cousin down the street. I just hope that she can forgive me! I’ve already been in contact with the good people at FTD. ..

I really can’t write up a complete review since I got take out and didn’t order a sandwich. I wasn’t too hungry so I ordered the chili and the Cheese Tortillini. The tortillini is a cold salad and is supposed to come with roasted tomatoes and squash, but I didn’t see any squash in the scoop I got(see photo) and the tortillini is like a mashed up overcooked mess. :P The chili tasted alright… pretty spicy, I only found a couple on beans in there and a chunk of meat… but there is ground meat throughout. It comes w/packs of saltines. Just ok… pretty cheap though. I like a chunkier chili so I’ll pass on this next time. I’ll edit this review once I try the sandwiches.
