Great place. I’m here often. It’s noisy on the weekends, because while the food and treats are European, the clientele is still mostly American.(Update: kids sports team yelling for last 10 minutes. I prefer a café expierence, not the Chuck-e-Cheese atmosphere. This reflects on these particular parents and the management. The French/CH kids and family that joined me at my table were well behaved. This place should develop its atmosphere.) See my other reviews of this café under Google Maps.

As a Swiss expatriate, I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to taste a little bit of Switzerland. Here’s my review: Pros: The food is delicious and authentic(I heartily approve of the Birchermüseli, Rösti and Raclette, some of my favorite treats from home), and you can buy Swiss goodies and treats I’ve not been able to find anywhere else(Zopf!). Their cheese, pastry, chocolate, and even their beer selection is fantastic. Plus the decorations(the lanterns and cowbells) makes me feel at home. :) Cons: The staff(at least at the register) are not friendly nor knowledgable about Switzerland. My first time at the shop, I was with the Swiss club and asked the girl at the register if she had ever been to Bern, and she shrugged her shoulders and said, «Where’s that?»(but it was more like, «Why are you asking me this?» or «Do I look like I care?»). A bit off-putting. Another time, I was followed into the bakery from the parking lot and verbally assaulted by a man who was jay-walking and didn’t think I stopped fast enough for him. After he screamed at me at the top of his lungs, accusing me of trying to kill him(I didn’t come within 5 feet of him, and was going the speed limit), instead of coming to my aid, the staff at the register would not look me in the eye, and the guy at the register even breathed a sigh of relief when I said I wanted my food to-go(which broke my heart, as I have been a regular, and I felt considerably less welcome after that incident). Anyway, I bring that all up because if you’re an outgoing, friendly person like me and want to establish a good rapport with a coffee shop(find a place with good food, coffee, and atmosphere while you study/do work daily), this may not be the place for you — as I said, I’ve been coming here for a couple years and have been quite unable to establish any kind of rapport with anyone here. If you don’t care about that, the food and coffee are great here! So, all in all I have given the Swiss bakery a 4/5, as it is hard to find a taste of home and I feel the Swiss bakery lives up to the task, with the 1 star lost for the not-so-friendly register staff.

WHATTHE?! How did I just discover all the Swiss wonderfulness just yesterday? It seems like The Swiss Bakery has been around for quite some time. I’ve just been a little slow to get on the train. Also, I had no idea it even existed. My dad purchased a bunch of goodies from this bakery yesterday, so you can imagine my surprise and delight as I walked into the kitchen to see shiny cheese danishes and a half-eaten cherry tart on the counter. I normally don’t like anything cherry, but I took one bite and man… that tart was out of this world good. Super flaky, buttery crust and the cherries were perfectly tart with a hint of sweetness. My eyes immediately went to the cheese danishes, and I told myself I would only eat half. I failed miserably because that cheese danish was probably the best I ever had. Just so perfect in every single way. I can’t imagine how good they taste when you buy them fresh in the morning. My dad has been frequenting the Swiss Bakery for three days in a row — that’s how much he likes it. In fact, when he came upstairs to see me pigging out on one of his precious cheese danishes, I think he got a little mad. I guess he was trying to keep the pastries all to himself, HAAAA!!! I’ll definitely have to make an actual visit to their store some time very soon with Will C. to satisfy my sweet tooth. It seems like they have a huge assortment of pastries, cookies, cakes, and other desserts in addition to breakfast/lunch items. Ahhh, can’t wait!

Me and my family have been all going there for years their pastries are pretty good there food is OK the prices are a little bit high. We enjoyed the festivals that they have there and the staff is nice the one thing that bothers my husband and I is the owner, jwe have been going there for so long and he is not once come up to us and greeted us for said hello even though we have approached him and spoken to him. We were talking to him and he has complained about how much things cost and he should’ve charged more for certain things which I can understand to an extent but that might be something that you don’t want to share with your customers. And when you do see some of your regulars maybe just smile and wave or say hello every now and then or I appreciate you guys coming in here so often on a regular basis but we have had none of that so because of this we have gone to their bakery a lot less. I really hope his attitude changes and he becomes more friendly.

This is my go-to place for holiday, birthday, and host/hostess cake-gifts! I know when I bring a cake from Swiss Bakery, that it will be enjoyed by all. My favorite is the carrot cake. We are so lucky to have this place right in our neighborhood!

I am in love with the swiss bakery! Lets start with it being in the most convenient place ever! right off 495 and Braddock, the two roads I take about 4 times a day!(It’s tempting to not stop each time) The staff here is so friendly and patient with me when I am indecisive on which cookies I want. and the food is great! They have traditional german foods for breakfast lunch and dinner items and at a decent price. I love coming in the morning and getting a gruyère egg and pork loin sandwich on a snowflake roll! they also do coffee iced or cold drinks. The swiss mocha is my favorite so far! So back to the cookies! they have the most delicious cookies! my favorite are the cranberry ginger squares, but there are tons of options to choose from. they also have delicious decorated fondant cookies for kids, but I like them as well. On the other half of the store they have a selection of grocery items. mainly wine, beer, and cheese but those are honestly the best kinds of groceries. They also sell other items like curry sauce, mustards, and sauerkraut; And their selection of haribro candies is the best! If you’re into german food, or need to start getting into it, defiantly come to the swiss bakery and pick up a hot sandwich and some baked goods!

So, in trying to avoid the awful traffic on a dreary, rainy, blustery AM commute-we stumbled in looking to pass the time answering the call of our collective sweet teeth. What. What what what?! This place kicks buns(pun intended). From the assorted pastry and baked good delights, you can’t miss. The rosti was worth the wait they warn you about– but really, who is in a hurry when you’ve got assorted snacks to fill your maw in the meantime? And the bread. The bread!!! Just plain sigh that coming back here would require a 6 hour drive from CT.

The pastries were so disappointing! There’s a rather small selection and on the day I went, only two offered in a smaller size. Everything was just a bit off, but enough that you’re better off going to Wegman’s for more authentic options. For example, the pastry cream tasted right, but the Napoleon didn’t have multiple layers of mille-feuille, just one on the bottom and one on the top. The sponge for the dark chocolate mousse pastry was bone dry, and the«crispie»(elephant ear) was very dry as well.

The only downfall of this place is that there aren’t more of them and/or it isn’t closer. I’m Austrian and everything about the bread, meats, cheeses and entrees screams Swiss and Europe in a whole. The Rosti tastes just like home as do numerous of their sweets. You could easily eat your weight in bread. The prices are comparable to Wegman’s. Again, you’re paying for quality.

Cute little family oriented German bakery I came across before my son’s football game at Wakefield Park. Wish they were in Arlington!

The food is great and very close to the good bakeries in Europe(this is a great compliment!) — Their French baguette is the best in the area. The negative side is some of the staff is clueless(dealt with 3 different employees) which leads to an inconsistent service. To Swiss Bakery manager: Please train all your staff, this awesome place deserves it!

This is a great little place to find in Springfield, Va. The food is very good, the staff are very friendly and happy. The atmosphere is nice, clean and friendly. I love taking a break and coming here for a quick lunch. But I see a lot of ppl just hanging out and doing meetings too.

I called here late one day and ordered the black forest cake which they claim they only make to order. I was told it would be ready for pick-up the next day at noon. I come in at noon and tell them I’m there to eat some bratwurst and pick up my cake. No one says much until I start eating and then a girl comes to the table and says something about preparing my cake. That was normal as they would add some of the cherries to the top of the as the customer would come to pick up the cake. They give me my cake and I drive home. The cake, at home, is frozen solid. Turned out they screwed up on my order, realized they made a mistake and failed to make my cake so without really saying much they gave me a frozen one. It was unsatisfactory and they refunded my money. I have not been back since.

They have amazing pastries here. I tried their tiramisu, cherry strudel, and strawberry éclair and they were all delicious. The store is very clean and inviting inside although the shopping center it’s in is definitely not the nicest looking. The staff is also very polite and accommodating too. I definitely want to come back and try more!

I cannot figure out how this place has bad reviews. I have had baked goods from here before but I had never actually been in the place. Today I decided to stop in for brunch. The Rosti was just like I had in Switzerland. The Grilled Gruyère sandwich with caramelized onions… awesome. Oh, and the Goulash, although not like traditional Hungarian style, was delicious. I grabbed a large mocha while I was in as well and got the dark chocolate. Delicious. I mean, really delicious. To go I grabbed an assortment of cookies. I have tried few of them so far such as the cinnamon walnut & molasses cookies and man they are delicious. This place has a nice selection of imported chocolate, beer, wine, and cheese as well. The staff was great. I dealt with three different girls behind the counter and the guy that brought the hot food to the table was just as nice. They were all helpful. There was young girl that you could tell was fairly new but very enthusiastic and if you asked her something and she didn’t know she had no problems going and finding out, straight from the kitchen! All in all, I really enjoy this little gem. The only reason I give it four stars is the price. It is a little steep… actually, the baked goods are really steep. Delicious, but pricey.

Bring a sweater, it’s chilly. I really like their Roasted Chicken sub– very good. I wished they had more drink choices, I don’t drink soda and I’d like to see more country specialities from bakery to dinner items that can be easily ordered online to p/up because they can be a little slow.

5 stars because the coffee here is consistently good! Very aromatic — you can always smell the freshness of it. Price is good too… something like $ 2 for the smaller size and $ 3 for the large. I love to stop by here for a quick bite or pick me up when I drive by on Braddock. There’s also a huge assortment of baked goods. strudels, pastries. you won’t run out of options!

This is my first time here and I am thinking I will be back. It is open, clean, and friendly. There is a lot of diverse traffic. There is nice seating being used my families and business networkers alike. I came in because I had time to kill while getting my oil changed & as I said, I think I’ll be back. My mocha and cinnamon cookie are yummy. As a bonus they have a little Swiss shop with beer, wine, chocolate and other goodies.
