Our experience with Best Granite and Marble started off very positively. We worked with Chuck, who was very easy going and a pleasure to work with. There were several issues regarding the cabinet delivery and offloading and how to implement a rounded molding that caused problems, but they didn’t cause nearly as big a problem as the following. Once our contractor installed the cabinets and I was putting my dishes away, I realized I was having trouble reaching the upper cabinets. I thought I would get use to it, but after a discussion with my husband and some research we discovered that the NKBA has determined that the standard height between the bottom of a kitchen cabinet and the countertop is 15″ to 18″. We measured and ours was 20.5″. This was not something I knew to consider but that 2−½″ made a huge difference in the comfort of using my new kitchen since I am only 5’2−½″ tall. After much consideration we have decided to lower the cabinets. This means all upper cabinets have to be removed and lowered, a starter molding and new crown molding has to be purchased and installed, and the top row of the tile backsplash has to be removed and hopefully everything will mesh up. This will probably cost us another $ 2500. A big expense, a big mess, a big disappointment. Chuck’s response was: «as I am not the one who installed the cabinets, so there is not much i can do» and«there needs to be adjustments made constantly as the project progresses. if you were not happy with the height of the cabinets, that is something your contractor should have adjusted prior to tiling the back splash.» My response to that is there is no way to know that the upper cabinets are not going to be comfortable to use until you actually are using them UNLESS you are a kitchen designer and take into account the height of your client and the NKBA standards. I have emailed Chuck and Best Granite and Marble twice since then requesting that they work with us to make this right and have not heard back from them. My understanding was that Chuck and Best Granite and Marble would design a kitchen that would meet our needs and be available to help should any problems arise. I am very disappointed in the lack of response after the cabinets were purchased and the failure to follow written NKBA standards regarding the placement of the cabinets.
