Stafford County Shelter

The staff are so helpful and friendly which made adopting our kitty very pleasant! The facility is clean and nice to come into with a ton of smiling helpful faces! Just all around a wonderful experience!

We adopted our kitty Fritzabelle from here and couldn’t be happier. The staff was friendly and helpful and very kind to my daughter (she was the one picking out a kitty). They obviously care about all the shelter pets. Would not hesitate to go back again.

This place was really depressing. Although there was one lady out exercising and and playing with several of the dogs, the other two staff were unnecessarily rude to the point of being obnoxious. If your goal is to get people to adopt an animal, it starts with a warm feeling.
The dogs were all visibly agitated, probably due to the seemingly uncaring staff. What got me, though, was the lack of any safety mechanism on the cages. I took my son to look for a dog to adopt, and they had a few nice hounds, but the fact that they have a large number of usually violent breeds behind only a simple fence with only a gate closure, we headed to the exit. The gates are so poorly closed that the dogs can push them open with their paws.
With a few simple changes, this place could do a lot better. They’d also have more people adopting from them, most likely.
I’ll certainly not be going back, but I do feel sorry for the animals housed there.
