Pulled Pork: Solid and I was really impressed with how lean it was. Yes, I know BBQ Pulled Pork is not about leanness and more about flavor, but this was the best of both. Their BBQ sauce has a nice smooth flavor(not sweet, not spicy). The only thing I felt that was missing here was any real sign/flavor of smoke. I would 2nd guess if the meat had been smoked. and not just braised all-day. Either way, it was good, but not Great. The beans: Great for texture, but really, really lacking flavor. No heat, no sweet, left me feeling rather incomplete.

I only know about this place from the OB Farmer’s Market since that is where I live. I have had their pulled pork sammies a few times and really love them. Moist, tender and a very yummy BBQ sauce which has just the right amount of smoky sweetness. Tonight I had their duck tacos… duck tacos?! What?! Yep, and they are SO damn good. 3 street size tacos for $ 7, which is not a bad price for duck. The duck was very pulled pork-like. Tender, tasty and had their cole slaw, BBQ sauce and an avocado tomatillo sauce on it. Wowza! They also have a BBQ parfait which I haven’t had, because I keep telling myself it’s too fattening looking. It has layers of pulled pork, BBQ sauce and mashed potatoes on it! I’m SO gonna try that when I can go one more notch tighter on my belt! They also have some great salads. Potato with 3 different kinds of spuds including sweet potato, one made with quinoa, a really good salmon salad and some kale based ones too. I’m a certified BBQ judge, and I love that they smoke their meats and they meet all the criteria we look for when judging an entry. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em!

THISREVIEWISREGARDINGTHEIRBBQONSATURDAYSATTHELITTLEITALYFARMERSMARKET/MERCATO: I sampled their pulled pork and beef brisket with a dab of sauce on each. The pulled PORK is really GOOD. Nice texture, not dry, good flavor. I would definitely order this. But IMHO the BEEF brisket is GREAT!(I ordered 2 to go) It had a fantastic smoke flavor and it was the perfect tenderness. The brisket was not too fatty and the beef flavor shined through and wasn’t masked by too much smoke, seasoning or sauce. Now the sauce. It’s really got a nice sweetness to it that isn’t overpowering. The texture of the sauce is good as well. The roll/bun compliments the other components in a fantastic way! Definitely RECOMMENDTHEBBQ!

This little place is across from my office and is situated in such a way that they clearly only cater to those of us that work in the business/light industrial park. Look for a «deli» sign to find the right driveway. The food is better than the chain deli around the block, while still being about the same price. They have a selection of salads, a long list of sandwiches, soups, breakfast items, and a daily special. The daily special is the main reason to come back on a fairly regular basis: Monday-Tuesday: Varies Wednesday: Meatball Sandwich or Spaghetti with Meatballs. Thursday: Barbecue Day! Every Thursday they have a barbecue selection, which is usually brisket, tri-tip, or pulled pork, but sometimes they have something else. This seems to be their most popular daily, and it comes in either a sandwich or on a plate with some sides. Friday: Varies, but is usually a fairly good(though mild) Chicken Torta. Their breakfasts are comparably-priced to the fast food ones, but they are bigger and higher quality. I like their breakfast burritos that they sometimes deliver to the businesses in the area, too. Oh yes, they also deliver large orders to your business for meetings and parties. They also have a punch card to get every 10th lunch free.

When I’ve got the extra cash to spend on lunch or breakfast(or if I haven’t had the time to do the weekly grocery shopping), I count on Good Olé Ranchwood Deli, just one commercial building/2 minute walk away. It serves your typical Office crowd the typical breakfast/lunch fare — but they do it oh so well for excellent prices. When I’m running late in the morning and don’t have time for my bowl of cereal, I give them a call when I’m 10 mins. away and order my favorite croissant breakfast sandwich(comprised of a HUGE, flaky croissant, eggs, swiss cheese and perfectly cooked bacon) for $ 2.99. As far as lunch goes, I tend to stick with their salad options. But the menu is extensive and you can definitely get something different everyday for a month and still not have tried everything. But back to the salads(at $ 4.99)… they’re double the size of a salad you would get at Jack in the Box or McDonald’s, freshly assembled with or without grilled-to order-chicken breast for the same price. If salad isn’t your thing, there’s a gazillion sandwich options available to you. They even have frequent buyer cards — for every 10 items you purchase, you get the 11th one for free. Ranchwood Deli is definitely a winner offering a variety of tasty options for the office folk stuck on the 8 – 5 schedule.
