The universe works in mysterious ways. I Unilocaled this place and read a good review. Everything mentioned was true and more. Mama is one of a kind. F bombs do reign here and so does no bs genuine people that know whats good in this world. I met several people that i could talk to for days. Oh and the Pad Thai is amazing. But dont come for the delicious thai food. Come for the experience. Mama even drove me «home» because it was cold out. How many times does that happen?

If you come here(read: when you come here) be prepared for a trifecta combination of excellent food, sketchy hole-in-the-wall setting, and fiery Thai management. This place is both a restaurant and bar(there’s karaōke every night) so come hungry, thirsty, and be ready to belt. The owner, Mama, is a small Thai woman with the dirtiest mouth I’ve ever come across. F-bombs rain from the sky here. She’s a real nice woman even when she’s cursing to hell and back. She’ll make your food, bring it out, make you a drink, take care of something else, and then come back and just chat with you about food or other things. The food here is fantastic. Nothing that I’ve had is a let down. The portions are large, the seasoning is spot on, and the spice is necessary. Her pad Thai is really good. It’s not oily. It’s delicious, whatever protein you choose(beef, pork, chicken, or shrimp) is juicy and fresh. Remember to spice it just right. I say if you’re alright with spice then you should take it easy with a 2 – 3. I grew up in a Vietnamese family and ate chilis growing up and I only sometimes get a 5/Thai spicy. All of the curries are also very good. I recommend the massaman curry with four stars, with curries I feel like you don’t want to melt your face off but you’d still want that slow build to a hot sensation in your body. You really can’t go wrong with any of the curries. If you can, try to get her stuffed garlic chicken wings. They are deboned and stuffed with essentially egg roll filling and then fried. They are absolutely fantastic. The drinks here are notoriously strong. Be sure to have a DD if you even think about having one.

Good ‘Pad Thai’ is to a Thai restaurant what good spaghetti is to Italian. If they can’t do this plate then it is all downhill. That said, the ‘Pad Thai’ here is terrible; not even close. I ordered the shrimp ‘Pad Thai’ and I was served a sweet, syrupy noodle dish that did not even come close to what I know as ‘Pad Thai’. I asked for a limes, lots of lime, to cut it down and still could not eat it. The few little shrimp I got tasted old and like they had ‘freezer burn’. I asked where the shrimp was from and was told, «Costco». This place is NOT Recommended at all.

My friends and I totally thought we made a wrong turn after seeing almost no lights on the street that this restaurant was in. From the outside, the place definitely came off more like a divey bar than a Thai restaurant. After parking, our party was on the way in when we saw 2 male patrons and an older woman sitting outside with cigarettes and beers in their hands. The older woman immediately greeted us verbatim: «Hey baby doll, how are you tonight? Are you guys all 21? You look too young, let me see your ID.» Since they seemed drunk, we decided to keep waking and ignoring them but quickly found out that she actually owns the place… And people call her«mama.» To start, people that are too sensitive to swearing and crude joking, this is definitely not the restaurant for you. The atmostphere of the restaurant is dirty, divey, contains pool tables, has a karaōke stage, and is next to a bar that is also owned by mama. She operates this place like a traditional Asian woman, pretty much by herself. She’s the server, cook, hostess, cashier. When asked what was good, everything that mama makes is «da bomb.» The conclusion of whether or not her food was actually«da bomb» is definitely debatable. My Thai fried rice was amazing, perfect amount of sweetness and the pineapples were a pleasant plus. My girlfriend’s phad Thai was wayyy too sweet and just became too much for her to finish towards the end. The dishes that my other friends got were also pretty sweet so I have a feeling she went a little too crazy with the sugar in the back. I hope it wasn’t because she was drunk… Lol. During dinner, she kept coming by to our table and chatting with us, adding lots of «f***» and«a$b*****» in between sentences. She was entertaining for a bit, but after a while, it gets a little weird for sure since she basically had her whole weight on my friend’s boyfriend and was talking really loudly in his ear. Overall, I gave her 4 stars because she was entertaining and was genuinely nice under that ghetto gangster façade she portrays. Docked the star mainly because of the food. Great place for some good laughs by mama!

I’ll start by saying, getting off work late really limits my choices on where I can eat out for a late dinner. The only Thai food open till bar hours; in an industrial part of town where people might be afraid to go after dark. There is something to be said about hole in the wall joints and you won’t find anything fancy here but the place is ran with heart and soul. If you’re lucky to find these gems, they’ll always keep you going back for more. A quick Unilocal search, we set out to give it a try. Our food was great, and Mama the owner ensured we were taken care of. With her no bullshit tell it like it is attitude; you instantly feel welcome and at home. Even my fiancé couldn’t help but call her mama as we were saying our goodbyes.

Best Thai food around. I hope mama’s there when you go because she’s the heart of this place. Don’t go anywhere else for Thai in the valley. And never get nine stars.

Every time we drive by this place looks abandoned. Today we decided to stop and try it due to all the good reviews. We walked in to the restaurant and it was deathly quiet, smelled like stale smoke, and it appeared that no one had eaten there in years. We turned around and walked out after standing there for 30 seconds or so. We went down to the friendly diner at the truck stop. The only thing I can think of is that everyone who gives it good reviews seems to have eaten in the bar… so maybe we’ll work up the courage to try again sometime.

Best Thai food around. Even if you don’t like thai food much you gotta go see mama. She is a great person to be around. Had pad Thai almost everyday for a whole summer. I can’t get enough of it, the cooks know how to make it right.

Never been disappointed in the more than 5 times at Mama’s — along with my 15 yo son– this is our favorite Thai eatery in Spokane.

First off, I am a picky snob about my Thai food. With that said, this food is so good I would just about eat it off the floor. I have been here a few times, and always order different items and have yet to be let down. Definitely worth the drive, just watch out for her signature drinks if you are driving home! I don’t think I have gotten the giggles from a drink since I was old enough to drink, but my first taste of a Mama’s Yumyum was enough to do it. And Mama herself is AWESOME. Just go here. You won’t regret it.

Hmmmmmm, All of the negative reviews don’t match out three experiences here. First off the restaurant is not ‘authentic’ Thai, but they don’t pretend to be, instead they admit that their concoctions are interpretations of original Thai dishes. Knowing that I must admit this was probably the second best Thai food I have had in Spokane. The summer Rolls were fresh and absolutely delicious, the peanut sauce was not overwhelmingly in peanut flavor and the fish/spicy sauce was excellent. I then had one of the best Yum Ka’s I have ever had, absolutely perfect in every way with just the right amount of kaffir in it. The Tom Yum Gai, while not authentic was again an excellent interpretation of the dish. We also had the Phad Prik Khing and Gaeng Puk Raum Mit and again these dishes were although different from the ones I ate in Thailand absolutely delicious. As others have noted the restaurant was closed so we ate in the bar but since the quality of the food was so good I really didn’t care. Service was good, drinks were well made and overall I think this place has excellent food. Highly recommend for the food

We had a coupon that needed to be used up and I was craving Thai curry. Well, it wasn’t the worst food I’ve ever eaten but I don’t believe we’ll be going back there again, even with a coupon. We had… Red Curry — 2 stars, medium heat, flavor was ok but it was a bit curdled like it had been reheated and then cooled and then reheated again. Eh, not what I want for $ 15 bucks a head. Green Curry — 0 stars(hubby isn’t much into heat) was green for sure and it had an ok flavor but it was over 75% green peas. What? 75% green peas? Are you kidding me? We like peas but good grief, what did they do, open a can of peas and pour it into the bowl? Hmmmph, perhaps 2 stars is more than I should be rating this restaurant but for now, we’ll keep it as it stands.

The Good: We ordered green curry«thai spicy,» and our host didn’t try to talk us out of it. It was very spicy, and very good. This is honestly the best curry I’ve ever had. The Bad: We also ordered phad thai«thai spicy.» It was really poor phad thai… I’ve had better at the food court in the mall. It wasn’t very spicy either. Also, it smelled a bit off inside and the location is next to busy roads. We got take out and are very glad that we did. The curry was very spicy and amazing. We will do it again, but not get phad thai.

To be honest the only reason why I tried this restaurant is because I got a gift certificate. With that said, it was a good deal price-wise. HOWEVER, that was the only good part. Upon entering the restaurant there was no one there. Kind of surprising because of all of the cars in the parking lot, but I guess those were bar patrons next door. So when we were finally seated we sat in silence in a large room that didn’t seem to have heat. We wore our down jackets for most the dinner. We saw our server only four times including seating, bill, order, and delivery of food. The food was as fast as we could hear the microwave go ‘ding’. When I needed additional spice I ventured to find our server, and eventually had to set off the entry alert buzzer to get someone(not the waitress) to help me. There is more, but I’m tired of writing so many negatives. I won’t go back, not even if I had a coupon. You are better off buying dehydrated, ultra-commercialized Thai food from the supermarket and heating it up in your own microwave. Odds are good that if you do that you’ll be warm, and probably not sitting in weird silence.

This is my favorite Thai place in Spokane thus far. Portions are more substantial than many of the others, but they don’t skimp on the quality! I’ve had curry that made me curse this places existence the next day!(which, I confess, I love) Being a paler-skinned homo sapien, it can sometimes be difficult to convince ethnic eateries that I can handle the food at «full power». This is one of the few places that will make it HOT if you ask them too. That said, I don’t come here often. Mainly because I try to drive as little as possible, and this place isn’t close to my work or home… unfortunately. Oh yeah, they will also cook you up some food LATE!(like, up until the bar closes at 2am late)

I’ve only been here twice. The food is decent but predictable. The surroundings are like the old diner that it once was. I would go back if I had a good coupon, but I don’t search the place out.
