Pretty awesome to have delicious, fresh cupcakes and bakery goodies located just a few miles from home :). Always a pleasure to stop in here. Thank you Anthony for great customer service and for being a sweet human being!

Ok, I am beginning to get paranoid. Is it just me? Why do I not seem to find the 5 stars in so many of these purportedly 5 star places?! We went in noonish mid week to order a cake for my Bro-In-Laws B’day. The folks there were very pleasant, answering all our very pointed questions admirably. We noticed that there were very few items offered in the cases. I know, I know, they say they proffer quality over quantity. The shop itself seemed starkly uninviting. Well, we did find one flake pastry muffin intriguing and had to purchase. The name started with an «A» I believe. BTW, DECADENTLYDELICIOUS! The cream cheese brownie got tossed. We ordered the cake and was to pick it up on a Monday, when they are technically closed, which was extremely accommodating of the owner. I picked up the cake, a white on white as ordered. Supposedly whipped crème frosting. Well, sadly, the three tier cake that was seemed like it weighed 100lbs… was entirely inedible! It was dense, could hardly drag a knife through it. The flavor tasted like a soda biscuit. We all three at the same time spat it out. What a shame! The white whipped crème frosting had specks in it which might’ve been from the writing gone wrong and perhaps re-frosted on top and rewritten? Anyway, we never need return. But, I am sure we won’t be missed as they seem to have plenty of fans. I don’t get it.

Prettiest cupcakes in town with very distinct developed flavors. We tried all the days offerings, Caramel Macchiato, Strawberry Lemonade, and Maple Bacon. The Caramel Macchiato had a strong coffee flavor in a dense medium crumb cake and was filled with a rich caramel that was also drizzled on top of the frosting. My favorite of the 3. The strawberry Lemonade was the loveliest, with a handmade fondant heart/envelope perfect for Valentines and crushed candy rimming the frosting. It was good, but a little dry and much of the flavor came from the crushed candy instead of the cake or frosting itself. I know this sounds weird to say about a sweet baked good, but it was too sweet for my preferences, but still good! The last and least of our choices was the Maple Bacon. I’m a fan of Maple donuts with bacon, but these didn’t work for me. The cake portion tasted a lot like a dense pancake which makes sense with the maple/bacon flavors, and the frosting tasted like regular buttercream but had a hint of bacon grease. I think there were tiny flecks of bacon in it, but pretty well blended in so no texture. I think it would work better with a strong maple frosting and a garnish of crisp bacon. We also sampled a few savory croissants, which were ok. A bit too moist from the deli meat which made the interior of the croissant pretty soggy/doughy instead of flakey. Husband sampled an Orange roll and said it was ok, but a little dry and not a very distinct orange flavor in the roll or cream cheese frosting. We probably won’t get these again, but that’s just our preferences. Both were clearly made with a quality touch. but man oh man, the Kouign Amann. To die for. Imagine the biggest butteriest croissant, but layered with carmelized sugar and hints of sea salt and a crisp caramel crust outside. My husband has been bugging me to drive across town to go get these almost everyday since we tried one. I don’t remember the individual prices of the items, but our total was $ 39 for 5 cupcakes, 2 savory croissants, 1 orange roll, and 1 Koiugn Amann. Not inexpensive, but about right for the quality of made from scratch goods. The bakery is a take out only, no areas for seating available. We will return to sample more cupcake flavors and certainly for the amazing Kouign Amann. They update their fb and social media pretty frequently with their daily offerings, so it’s a good idea to see what temptations they are working on!

«Yummy is not enough to describe those sweet goodies.» Red onion jam, spicy tomato jam and Jalapeño pepper jam WTH! Right away, I jumped in that conversation at the Reno Foodies FB group and decided to give Lavender Box bakery a shot. Cute little bakery. Locally owned and operated. Menu changes daily. Happy hour cupcakes flavors such as Fireball, Margarita, American Honey Whiskey, Peach Moscato, Dark Chocolate Red Wine, Strawberry Prosecco, Honey Bourbon, Bloody Mary and Chocolate Stout on Friday and Saturday. Lavender Box offers Smee’s Alaskan Fish Bar cod chowder in their bread bowls on Wednesdays. Anthony– Co owner is super nice and friendly. Sugar Bear is a happy big kid who would kill you with kindness. We tried some of the best goodies we have ever tasted, so far: Cherry Danish, Turkish coffee and peppermint Fudges, Brownies, Coconut Cream Pies, Nutella Pinwheels, Root Beer Float and Vanilla Cupcakes. In their Mardi Gras celebration and their 6 month anniversary we had New Orleans’ treats. Very fresh sweets baked to perfection. Pleasant surprise texture and tasty flavors to satisfy your sweet tooth. Little pricy, but hey! you get what you pay for. 15% off special for all Reno Foodies FB group. Not a five stars? Location is the only drawback of this business. It is not findable on GPS and so far away from where I live. Otherwise, definitely I would be a repeat customer. Stay Sweet ;)

Stopped in here with my kids to pick up a special treat for the day, after reading lots of pub through the Reno Foodies facebook group. The location is a bit odd, but hopefully it helps save the business some $ on rent! We picked out a brownie and a vanilla cupcake to go. It was mostly for the kids but I tried a bite of each. The brownie was tasty– maybe not quite as over-the-top chocolatey indulgent as others, but still very good. The cupcake was also really delicious, with a much better mouthfeel than the stuff that comes out of a box. So why no five stars? It’s simply the cost. I understand that upscale bakeries are becoming a thing, and perhaps that’s the cost they need to charge to run a successful business based on the time and quality of ingredients. So this is not so much on them, as it is that I have a hard time justifying paying $ 4 for a fairly small cupcake. Other baked goods also seemed to be in the same $ 4 – 5 neighborhood. Bottom line, if the higher quality is worth the extra couple bucks to you compared to other places in town, then you’ll certainly love it there. Just might not be for me, at least not on a regular basis.

Ive heard a lot of buzz about this place and had to check it out! I was not disappointed. The owner, Anthony Amar, got me a cup of Smee’s Alaskan Fish Bar’s Smoked Salmon Chowder(which they serve there a couple days a week though sometimes it’s clam chowder I believe) while we talked — it was really good… Really well developed layers of flavor. While I was there at least 4 different people came into the shop saying they heard about the bakery through the Reno Foodies Facebook group, which is where I first discovered it. I thought that was really cool. Another customer came in with her daughter, and her daughter LOVES Star Wars, she even had a Darth Vader shirt on… So parenting award already! So the little girl, all of 11 – 12 years old describes how she wants Star Wars themed cupcakes for her birthday party the following week and then decides on the Millennium Falcon!!! Seriously the coolest kid ever! But it struck me how much time the owner took with them to find out exactly what they wanted so they could do their best to make it a memorable experience. And here comes my failure: I really wanted one of the vanilla cupcakes, I had my eye on them from the moment I walked in, but as I hung out and watched customers come and go, they were suddenly all gone. Last time I make that mistake! But! I got this danish to go… It was made with almond cream and has mixed berries on top… And I just ate it. Really good. I don’t like«bready» things usually, and not usually a fan of fruit on pastries… I suppose I associate those things too much with cheap, factory produced food, because this was really damn good and unmistakably handmade. But for real Lavender Box is really a great spot and the owner is very thoughtful and customer service oriented, combined with very well made, cared for products, I’ll be a regular. EDIT — 02÷05÷16 So I had to go down to #TheBox again because I didn’t get a chance to try a cupcake yesterday. Let me just say that no matter if it’s sweet or savory, you can tell everything about a restaurant or bakery by their most simple, straight forward food. Before you can be successful at complex dishes, you need to master the basics. The Vanilla Cupcake. It’s not fancy… but if it’s done well, it doesn’t need to be. First, I’m a buttercream freak — I love it. I’ve eaten jars of it with a spoon — #TrueFoodiesUnite! — Don’t judge me The vanilla buttercream on this cupcake was perfection. It wasn’t too soft and it had structure, which is very important… If it’s too soft, licking it often times will only push it around. It was incredibly smooth, but it also had a slight texture, which you’ll only see when it’s handmade. It was also just about the right amount on the cupcake. The top of the cake portion wasn’t left soft, and had a very slight glazed crust on top, which was great… When everything is soft, like a cupcake, even the slightest nuance in textures is really nice. It also tasted insanely good. I told Anthony that I never eat a whole cupcake, I eat the top with the frosting only… But I ate all of this one. And just to qualify myself, I used to live in Old Town Scottsdale just down the street from Sprinkles Cupcakes… They are fairly well known, and I’ve had several of their cupcakes… But I feel confident I saying that this vanilla cupcake was the best cupcake I’ve ever had. So kudos Kelley ! And now I still have a Tiramisu and a Jäger Punch cupcake to look forward to… But it was seriously so good I had to stop my movie and tell everyone how insane those cupcakes are.

The people at Laverder Box are very special. It’s the type of business where every customer becomes a friend. I haven’t found a cream cheese based pastry called Rugelach at any bakery in Reno. You have to love a place that tells you«Well we never have made that but we’ll give it a try». And they do. just for you. The Rugelach that they made was just wonderful. Plus they make an excellent brioche that makes the best French Toast and I love their hand pies among many other tasty treats. They are wonderful about doing special orders and they make excellent jams too. I especially love the peach and add a little brandy to it to make a sauce for the French Toast. The Red Onion Jam is excellent with Brie. It’s just a pleasure to go there and pick up some of the best baked goods you will find in town. Go. trust me you won’t be sorry. But go early because the sell out quickly.

I love sweets and baked goods, so when I found out about a bakery in Sparks I needed to go. I bought a cinnamon roll and I was not disappointed, the store was small but very cute. Recommend for anyone who likes baked goods and likes trying new things.

WOW! So I just moved to the area, was in need of a unique and creative baker, im impressed. I saw on their Facebook page that they had a Lavender and Honey cupcake. My mother in law was coming into town for her birthday and I wanted to surprise her with a cake made of two of her absolute favorite ingredients. The baker I spoke with didnt hesitate with my request and not only was it made beautifully but is was so incredibly delicious. Thank you so much and keep up the great work bakers!!!

We stopped after reading about them on the Reno Foodies web site. We Picked up a savory pocket and a couple of small Desert pastry. We were pleased with our purchase. They are small and family owned and operated. The food was good we would definitely suggest this as a stop on your list. You will not be dissapointed.

What a great experience! Kelly custom made my boyfriend’s favorite, flourless chocolate torte with raspberry sauce. It was delicious. She was excited for the chance to do something different and expressed how much fun she had doing it. It was refreshing to work with someone who clearly enjoys what she does, thank you!

Such a wonderful little bakery, run by good people. Their selection is limited but they value quality over quantity, and that is clear from the first taste. Their rotation selection of cupcakes stars some of the most interesting and unique flavors I’ve ever heard of. I kept on seeing their lists of new flavors and wanting to try them. I finally got the chance on the day they had«Pretty in Pink», which is a peppercorn cupcake with a pink salt frosting. Divine! Savory, sweet, salty, with a hint of peppery spice. Just really good. And I got to enjoy it while chatting with the owners who are lovely people. Besides the beautiful cupcakes, they had Danish, brownies, and several other pastries on display, as well as some savory items that looked nice. They also have a selection of delicious looking jams, preserves, and chutneys they make, as well as local honey. They have coffee and apparently even do soups at lunch! I brought some Danish home for my kids– those were devoured eagerly and received two thumbs up from both kiddos. I got the chance to sample the red onion jam while I was in and wound up buying a jar of that, too. I used some in a gravy for a pot roast and that was a big hit with the family. And now I hear that on Wednesdays they will be serving Smee’s cod chowder in bread bowls. Yes, please!

What a quaint little bakery tucked away in a strip mall. Located off prater and sparks blvd, lavender box is easy to miss. It is located where quiznos used to be. Why only 4 stars? The only negative is there is no seating to enjoy your pastry and coffee. Anthony, one of the owners along with kelly, explained they ar ere hoping to get tables and chairs outside for the summer. Anthony, originally from kans s s, and a executive pastry chef in Las Vegas, has a passion for what he makes. From the cinnamon rolls, to the croissants, this is not our normal bakery. Anthony will take the normal and add a little twist. His vision is h e does not want to be another regular bakery, he wants to be the best an create something you will remember and love. We ordered a beef and cheddar croissant, and a cinnamon roll. Both were excellent. We will definitely be back.

Came in today for their customer appreciation day. I was able to taste a lot of excellent fresh items off their lunch menu. Their chicken noodle soup had a great flavor. I had it in their bread bowl, the bread is amazing, great crispy she’ll with a puffy soft interior. I also tried their cinnamon roll, they baked some miniature ones for tasting but I think they should just make some miniature ones to sell because they pack a lot of cinnamon goodness in just a small roll. I got a tiramisu cupcake to go, my husband loved it. Definitely one of my favorite places to come to get treats.

This place is a serious«diamond in the rough» nestled in sparks, a delicious local bakery, if you like of LOVE cheesecake, they have the most amazing cheesecake pastries, I had a sample of the avocado cheesecake today, it was delicious!!! If you have Facebook, LIKE their page because they are very active on their Facebook page with updates on new delicious sweets… The great thing about this place, but I warn you it is dangerously delicious is that they always change there menu of items, so there is always something new to try!!! I stopped by Lavender Box Bakery today. It is in what used to be a Quiznos in the shopping center that has Flowing Tide Pub. The selection seemed to be on the smaller side. Cupcakes were $ 4 each. There was a crumble for $ 5.25. I got a rocky road brownie and a cinnamon roll. They were a combined $ 7. The cinnamon roll has nice frosting but the roll itself seemed undercooked. I didn’t like the chocolate flavor variation on the brownie. They have coffee but not decaf. Service was friendly.

I’m pretty ecstatic to have a great, local bakery open up within walking distance of my house. And with coffee and friendly helpful service too who needs Dunkin Donuts? I stopped in this morning after my usual walk around the Sparks Marina to check it out. I spoke with the owner and her friendly daughter who made sure I knew of all the options that they had available. They gave me sort of a bakery case tour. It was hard to make a decision but I finally did. They had Rootbeer cupcakes, savory and sweet filled croissants, fruit turnovers, muffins, turtles, brownies, bread, jams and much more. I was told some of the selections in the cases can change daily and even throughout the day. I’m sure they will figure out soon enough which items are the most popular to keep on hand regularly but I hope they keep up the surprises and change-ups too. I ended up going with the Morning Glory Muffin, a muffin with a little bit of everything good… apples, spices, carrots, coconut, sunflower seeds and a few more things I’m sure I missed. Sweet but not too sweet and full of healthy stuff. I know this one is going to be a favorite. I ate it, loved it and didn’t even feel guilty after my 4 mile walk. I took home a couple of fresh baked blackberry turnovers as well(my guy’s favorite) and they threw in a couple of delicious buttery shortbread cookies on the house. They were a little hard to find, without signs, but not that hard. And the signs will be there soon enough, so get over there while it’s relatively unknown before the crowds find them. Just look straight at Flowing Tide from the parking lot on the Prater way side and turn your head to 3 O’ clock across the parking lot to the adjacent strip of spaces. I can’t wait to pop in on another walk soon to see what’s baking in my neighborhood.
