Let me go ahead and tell my story: A few years ago, I was supposed to get married. Dee had been recommended to me by a friend and, though I wasn’t fond of her cake, my fiancé wanted to go with her and the prices were better than other bakeries. Dee took our order, and told me she’d call a couple of months before the wedding so she could verify my order. Fast-forward a few months: my fiancé and I broke up. I went through the process of canceling everything, but completely forgot to call Dee. On the day of the wedding, she sends her employee to the venue with our cake, only to find out we cancelled. Dee immediately starts calling my ex-fiancé repeatedly(if I remember correctly, I think we counted 38 times), threatening to sue us for breach of contract unless we paid what we owed. I really didn’t feel like dealing with this psycho, so I told him to just pay her and get the cake. I admit that I am at fault for not calling and canceling. However, she never called to verify either. In fact, when we got the cake, the colors weren’t what we wanted because she never called to verify the colors. She claims she talked to me, but had she actually talked to me when she claimed she did, I would have told her the wedding was off. When he picked up the cake, my ex told her that what she was doing was BS and asked why she was choosing to act that way. She shrugged and took the check out of his hand. So I spent that summer with a $ 750 cake in my freezer, which I handed out to people. Everyone who tried it said it was terrible, and 3 people found staples in their mouths while eating it. I filed a complaint with the BBB, but Dee doesn’t respond to BBB complaints because she believes she is perfect. After looking online, I found that my situation was not unique – a few people had very similar issues with her.

Dee came highly recommended to me and I’m not sure why. Sometimes I think my problems with her popped up because I was a very poor bride and had no money to spend on a cake. She actually offered a lot for my very small cake budget. Also the cake tasted amazing! The bad part was the decoration on the cake. She didn’t do one thing we had discussed as far as decorations were concerned. I had some decorative coasters made up for table decorations that had a pretty D and flower design that I wanted to be mimicked on the middle of the cake. Aside from that I wanted simple dots all over it. I left her a coaster for her to use as a reference. Well… she ended up placing the coaster on the cake and then covered it with a thin layer of frosting??? It looked terrible. The frosting layer covered the D and flower design on the coaster, you had to get really close to see what it was… there were no dots… nothing else. It was ugly. We had to turn it around on the cake table. I still remember my Mom coming into my dressing room and asking me…“Sweetie, what is going on with your cake exactly?” It looked terrible. My photographer took one shot and was like…“That’s it for the cake, sorry…” It broke my heart. Luckily I am a Graphic Designer and I was able to fix it in photoshop for my web, framed pictures and scrapbooks. When I asked Dee about what had happened with the decorations the first thing she said to me was… «You signed a contract, there are NOREFUNDS!» I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t want a refund. I just wanted her to admit to me, one artist to another, that the cake looked terrible. She refused. Very sad experience. After that I made sure that non of my friends who got engaged after me considered her. I will say that if you want nothing more than for your wedding cake to taste yummy then Dee is your Cake Lady! Her cake flavors are unique and just plain delicious! Also, if you have a large cake budget I would probably consider her. I think if I had more money to put towards the cake in general, my decorations would have been a lot prettier.

The cake is pretty good, and the prices are reasonable. Dee makes pretty cakes, but her customer service is lacking a bit. Everything went perfectly with the wedding cake I picked out, but it was very simple. Beware, she will overcharge you for accessories!!! She tried to charge me $ 90 for a cake topper when I found it on the internet(shipped to my door) for $ 15!!! She acted as if $ 90 was the best price she could get it for… whatever! Also, she only accepts limited credit cards. If you card is attached to any kind of cash back or point bonus’ she will not take it. She says the credit card companies charge her too much for reward cards. Is that even legal? Maybe I should e-mail Visa/Mastercard… EDIT…The more I think about the BS she put me through, the more mad I get. Yes, like Marissa said, she will not take any credit card that has rewards attached to it; that was the only CC I had. Grrr… the more I think about it, the madder I get. Yes… go somewhere else!
