Family Owned. Everything hand made. Chinese veggies; they have most of the leafy veggies in Ranch 99 ranging from ong choy to achoy to mustard greens to bokchoy. etc. Can ask them to prepare ong choy with garlic instead of using the salty fermented bean curd. XLB all handmade; eat with a spoon. Be careful. insides are very hot. Great place for family style cooking. Pumpkin black sesame tong yuan; handmade. Big; very good.

Delicious food. They have Cantonese food also on the menu, but the Shanghainese stuff is fantastic.

Crab over Pork Xiaolong Bao any day! This place is mediocre. Their dumplings aren’t filled with much soup and the wrapping is not translucent like Din Tai Fung’s dumplings. But if you’re craving Xiaolong Bao, it hits the spot.

Food was alright here. Ordered a pork xiao long bao and a crab meat one. But they gave us both pork. Ordered a few other dishes. Everything was just okay and some were even too salty. My favorite dish at Shanghai restaurants is the Shanghai cho chow mien. But this place made it really bland. :\ Service was alright, they weren’t even that busy cause it’s a weekday and yet it took a while to flag someone down to take our orders.

The XLB was okay, not much variety, same basic familiar flavors but nothing to write home about. Din Tai Fung restaurants across the world have tons more tastier options, but this is South San Fran so yeah, give it a try. A better option is the other dishes we found last week; salt and pepper juicy pork chops, savory eggplant, fried chicken wings and pea vines. The chef is from Shanghai and if you give him a chance and order his specialties, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find authentic dishes done well here. The waitress was accommodating and took good care of three to four tables the early evening we were here. This is typical of a small time suburban Chinese restaurant trying to make a living outside the City… they do the best they can with a small staff and high rents.

The Xiao long bao here is really good, and I’ve been to many xiao long bao places. The rest of the food is just so so. The scallion pancake is flavorful but a little too oily and too thick

I had a craving for XLB. I had the pork and crab. It was fabulous. Lots of soup. 8 Baos for $ 11.

Our favorite dish from here was the minced pork(can’t remember if it’s pork or beef) noodles. The overall dish is mostly sweet, with just a tad bit savory. The sliced cucumbers gave it a refreshing taste and some crunch to the dish. The XLB and XLXLB were just okay. A little disappointing, actually. The skin on the XLB are more on the thicker side. There was«soup» within, but not as much as I hoped for… again, that thick skin doesn’t help with anything either. The XLXLB is just for fun… I wouldn’t recommend ordering it, actually. If it kills you that you need to try it(like me, hello), then please share it because there’s no way in hell you can stuff that whole thing in your mouth(thus, no point!). It is literally exactly like their normal sized XLB so… it really is nothing special. I also tried their boiled pork and chive dumpling and they were disappointing as well. no substantial flavor. We also tried their lion head meatball soup, which apparently is a famous Chinese dish. The name comes from the giant meatballs being the lion’s face, and the cabbage being the lion’s hair. I’ve never heard of such a thing, but… it is indeed a thing! The flavors reminded me of beef stew, but the meatballs were tooooo soft. almost like mush! Personally, I didn’t like it. Service was practically none, but that’s a little normal I guess. I won’t be back.

Hell yeah! The dimsum is good and the serving is huge. The price ain’t bad either. You get much less for the same price on the dimsum places nearby.

You had me at soup dumplings… This place offers so much more, but the XLB is obviously their bread and butter! I love the sauce that comes with it. I could probably drink it. It just pairs perfectly with the dumplings. I also love the Shanghai style noodles and the sautéed green beans. Service is so-so. Parking is hit or miss. But dumplings are on point!

This sort of Chinese restaurant is one of my favorites — they offer up authentic Chinese food, delicious dumplings(hence the name), and isn’t fancy(which means they are focusing on the quality of the food.) Good location on Grand Avenue, must try.

I have honestly got to say that this place is pretty good for Chinese/Shanghai food being on Grand Ave. I usually go here for dinner when I’m at Kaiser in SSF. This restaurant has quick service and the food comes out fairly quickly. Their XLB is really good and juicy inside, which is what you want! Get their x-large XLB if you want to try something new and fun hehe. Love how the skin on the XLB doesn’t rip or tear when you’re taking it off the wax paper, muy bueno. The only dish that I wasn’t so excited for was the spicy wonton appetizer. They added some peanut sauce to it which isn’t bad, but def makes it less«spicy» than you may think. I still ate all of it though, who am I kidding. Their bean curd w bok choy was flavorful as well! And of course, clams were very delicious and I definitely left FULL&HAPPY.

Got a bit of an upgrade since I’ve been… mostly aesthetic. The tables and chairs have been swapped out in favor of booths… however, I think the placement is poor. Our booth was right underneath a ceiling fan, but since the lighting in the restaurant was recessed lighting, we literally went from light to dark every second. Annoying! We shared a few dishes, some were very pleasant surprises, others were just okay. 1. Spicy Wonton: overloaded on peanut sauce(or peanut butter) so it really detracted from a dish that should have highlighted the spicy chili oil. Wontons were huge though, if that compensates for anything. 2. XLB: skin was kind of thick this time, but it did its job in containing the soup — so no complaints really. 3. Nian Gao: family really enjoyed this — not too oily and tossed generously in pickled veggies and pork. Dad liked that the rice cakes were also not all stuck together. 4. Stir-fried Shredded Potatoes — it’s a GIANT plate of shredded potatoes… It’s lightly seasoned so you can have it over rice or eat it alone or accompany it with your favorite sauces. Very(oddly) enjoyable. 5. Beef Stew Noodles — Still my favorite dish to order here. Noodles are chewy and beef stew is in plenty. We probably received a lot more tendon that normal this time, but I still liked it plenty :)

Not too bad for xiao long bao. Granted, not the same yummy kind that i grew up with but nice to find some comfort food here. Their items are more on the sweet side so if you are not into that kind of taste, then maybe come back when you’re looking for an extra pinch of sugar.

Legit chinese food in the middle of nowhere Well not the middle of nowhere. But not exactly close to a big city either. This little gem of a place serves really good chinese food. The Noodles are AMAZING, and the juicy pork buns are done right, with hot soup inside and the baos still intact when served. The inside of the place is not that big, so it fills up quickly. The clientele are mostly old-school chinese folks, so you know the place is legit. The service is pretty good too – the food came quite quickly and they are fast to attend to tables, refill tea etc A good place to go if you’re craving noodles or juicy pork buns

Tried this place three times already. The first was really good, generous portion of lunch specials. The second time there was hair in my sweet and sour pork and the Asian lady at the register didn’t seem to care. The third time, I ordered sweet and sour pork and when the order arrived it was sweet and sour chicken. Daaaaanng! For both instances which were both unacceptable, they never gave us a discount!

Everything was very, very salty. I love my salt but the food here was especially salty to me — almost the only flavor I noticed in the dishes we ordered. Even the bean curd with edamame beans was overly salty — at least it wasn’t bland, I guess. Along with the salty taste, the food is still flavorful and comes hot and fresh from the kitchen. Our entire order came out steaming and smelled so good. The fan tuan was probably my favorite, as it is at any restaurant that serves them. Glad they don’t just serve them on weekends or mornings. I wish the fan tuan had more preserved veggies and rou song(meat floss/dehydrated pork?), but it was still delicious and made great leftovers. Dishes were large and so we had a lot of leftovers to take home. The restaurant itself is roomy and clean. Booth and table seating options. I have yet to try the xiao long bao here. So far, I have had better versions of the same dishes elsewhere. I’m not usually around Grand so don’t know when, if ever, I’ll be back to try again.

Xiao Long Bao Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants along Grand. My coworkers and I come here if we’re in the mood for XLBs and if Dumpling Empire down the street gets too crowded. My favorites are the Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings and the Dan Dan noodle soup. We’ve tried a couple of their noodles and some of the other dumplings as well. Service is pretty quick, which we appreciate too. For a group of about 7 people, we spend about $ 15 each always leave satisfied!

I expected better xiao long bao from a place called Xiao Long Bao Kitchen. The xiao long bao($ 7.95) were actually kind of gross. The meat was a bit stinky and a bit sweet. The wrappers were thick. There were bits of grayish meat scum floating inside the broth.(I don’t know why I even bother ordering xiao long bao in these parts anymore.) The mapo tofu($ 7.95) and Shanghai stir fried thick noodles($ 7.95) were better, although the frozen peas and carrots in the mapo tofu were unpleasant. Food was served within minutes of us ordering, so we were in and out in half an hour. Good enough to stop by on the way to or from SFO. Definitely not a destination.
