i like this place. The former owner when it was just hong ha cooked better food. I go here because I like supporting local ssf restaurants. Street parking/meter. A little dirty, used to busy at lunch, I’m not sure as I only go weekends. I get the phở thai which is beef steak and noodles in beef broth, fried spring rolls, and a vermacelli dish with bbq pork. Yum. Prices are cheap $ 5 or less.

wow! that hot and sour soup is jam packed with deliciousness; mushrooms, tofu, veggie bits, chicken, broth. man it was fllling and huge I liked it. It came with boiled peanuts. good food. The place was old — but that is not bad — if you love a good hole in the wall(like me) Parking was pricey — the meal was a deal.

I was driving around South City looking for a place to eat. I did some research earlier and was looking for a phở place but I couldn’t find it. Lucky(or unlucky as you will see) I drove right by this restaurant. It was 1 hour after the hour they posted up for closing time but I walked in and asked if they were still serving. The lady said«yes» and I sat down thinking this was going to be my lucky night for good food. I was hungry. I ordered the phở and it was phở. Nothing bad, but nothing really out of the ordinary. I also ordered some chow fun… the lady had long hair. Found 2 long hairs in my chow fun. My chow fun turned into chow not fun. Good bye.

The worst phở I’ve ever had! Bland(had to add half bottle of fish sauce to be able to eat it). Sauce for spring rolls was strange and nasty tasting. The homemade soymilk was also bland and water down. There is nothing Vietnamese about this place, and it is giving Vietnamese food a bad reputation. It should close down.

The only people here at the dinner hour was the waitress who was pretty difficult to communicate with because she couldn’t understand a lot of the stuff we were asking her… and ordering. The other person in the restaurant was the cook but I think the waitress was helping out preparing the food. The phở was probably the most tasteless and bland broth I’ve ever tasted. It was practically just some gray colored water. The thing that turned me off the most of this place was that the waitress had on some latex gloves the whole time. She touched anything and everything with those gloves without ever changing them… and she even held the bean sprouts, basil, and cilantro for my phở with those dirty ass gloves. It was so hard to communicate with her that I didn’t even put that shit in my soup. Gross at dinner… but good at lunch since there are others there to help you and I’m sure there are more cooks so that lady wouldn’t be touching anything being served out there. I recommend the rice plates only because they’re good for the price and they come with a lot of food. They close at 8pm… but don’t even bother coming here unless its for lunch.

I dont know if this is the restaurant right next to the salon and mexican food joint… and inside there is a design on the ceiling with hanging fruits and plants… if not, i will take this post off, but if it is then this review is for you. Decided to try this place because ben tre… we always go there and its delicious. and little saigon, never again because of what i found on my food. So i couldnt find the rice dish i was looking for and i didnt want the waiter to wait any longer cause i was taking too long so i ordered a spicy lemon grass beef(which i thought would be something else from how other viet place had it). This spicy lemon grass beef was sauted and had green onions and jalapenos… it was cool. The price was great… but half way through our meal, we heard the DAUGHTER who was working with her mom in the restaurant started YELLING. And who was she yelling at? her own mom. This daughter was using such foul language and saying things to her own mom that should never ever EVEREVER be tolerated. This really ticked me off enough to write a review so that hopefully she’ll someday read this review and get moded. First: respect your elder, especially you MOM who gave you life. Second: I should have told her off when i paid for our food… but with someone as disrespectful as that… who knows if she would have thrown a punch at me… then i would have CHOKED a b!@#$ LOL!!! Merriman style, Spreewell style… hahahah I would not go back here again because of what that female did(this female was lin here early 20s) PEACE!

I’m still discovering places to go in SSF. I actually did a search for a vietnamese rest. close by. This was the closest to my office. I thought I’d give it a go based on the Unilocal reviews. They are a pretty tiny place and the price isn’t so bad. I got out of there for under $ 17. 2 entrees and an appetizer. Not bad! I noticed that they have a very extensive menu including chowmein, curries, mongolian dishes, etc. The service was very decent and very fast. I asked the cashier for another container and without even blinking, she handed me a huge container. I will definitely have to check out their specials.

Well we happened to come here by chance and thought to give it a try. I am no expert on Vietnamese food, but thought to try something different for a change. I don’t know how different it is because I think it is a pretty simple meal(of the choices I made). We ordered:(Com Sun Nuong) Which was the Charbroiled Pork Chop over rice. I even had a side of this tangy shrimp instead of egg. This had interesting flavor. The other item that we ordered was an eggplant dish. I must say that it smelled very good and I mean very good. I think we also had some sort of other fish too. Everything was prepared nicely and even before we ordered the people who were working were quite patient and friendly. I think this place is decent as in size. However, they didn’t have anymore of a particular item on the menu that they offered. but we didn’t fuss about it. Prices are so-so, atmosphere ok, service nice and food decent.

This is a place for the locals. Only locals would be able to find it and eat here. The quality of the food isn’t that bad, it is just the flavors just doesn’t taste right after eating all these years of Ph. And this hole in the wall isn’t cheap too.

After ordering a sandwich and having the bread stale as can be, I never returned. We heard that it might have changed ownership and My friends and I decided to go check it out again. I ordered the chow mein with tofu and vegetables it was really good. The tofu was firm and crispy and the vegetables were soft. The noodles were thin & crispy they were good although I prefer the thicker ones. It was a lot of food that I even took some home. My bother ate my left overs and now he calls me before I leave work so I can stop and pick some up. Not sure if they changed ownership but the service and quality sure improved.

When my coworkers and I get tired of all the taquerias in SSF, we come here for some pretty good Vietnamese food. I am actually not a fan of their phở dishes, but I love their bun(vermicelli noodles with veggies, grilled pork/beef/shrimp) bowls. About $ 6 for a lot of food, and tasty. Throw some siracha in, mix it all up, and you’re good to go. My coworkers have ordered their sandwiches before, and they were pretty pathetic looking(try one from Huang Long in San Jose for a bomb ass Vietnamese sandwich). Service is quick and friendly. Parking is not hard to find on the street. I’d give it 3.5, but round up for consistency and reasonable prices.

came here for lunch when my co-worker says«lets get some phở»(but he pronounced it FAH, lol). so i let him slide with that one, and we end up here. i order the pork chop and shredded pork rice plate, one of my all time favorite comfort foods. it was pretty good. not bad. the fish sauce(nuoc cham) was way too sweet. i absolutely love this stuff, so i ignorantly dumped the entire little dish onto my plate before tasting it. so i ended up with an overly sweetened porkchop over rice. so yea that was my fault not theres. parking can be easily found right out front, but it is metered. pay your meters, cuz those south city maids will get ‘cha!

The South Bay does vietnamese food the best, but I can’t be choosy when I’m so far away. The noodle soups are okay here… the phở broth is not that flavorful. The rice dishes are very oily, but pretty yummy tasting. I wouldn’t recommend getting the viet sandwhiches, they aren’t made the«right» way(with pâté). Cheap prices!

**update** my heart has told me to bump them up one star as I know their other items are pretty good. :) They must have increased their prices cuz right now, Pork BBQ sandwiches are 2.75. I just got back from a business trip and was craving some asian food… I decided on vietnamese and picked up one of my girlfriends from work to eat here for lunch. She wasn’t very hungry and just ordered Fresh Shrimp Pork Rolls for 3.95. I was going to order BBQ Beef and imperial roll over vermicelli, but considering she ordred little, I decided to eat less. So I ordered a BBQ chicken sandwich ANDBBQ beef sandwich — both 2.75 each. OOPS. I figure I can always eat one for later. I should’ve ordered only one. That’s what I get for always having HUNGRYEYES. aargh! So it took 20 minutes for me to get my bbq chicken sandwich. Seriously. I was hungry so I was watching the clock. We got there at a little before 1, ordered at 1, I got my sandwich at 1:20. It wasn’t what I expected. Actually our server apologized for the long wait«sandwiches always take so long.» What I expected was bbq with cilantro, jalapenos, lettuce, pickkeled carrots and turnips. I’ve eaten so many vietnamese sandwiches in the south bay and they all had a «kick» but this one didn’t. All ths one had was the bbq meat, lettuce, cucumbers, mayo and some sauce i think. Too much mayo too. And to think I was so happy to find a place close to work that sells vietnamese sandwiches for 2.75. Well, I guess I have to entice a south bay vietnamese sandwich business owner to expand to the peninsula. Cuz this just wont do. Next time I go back, I’ll stick to ordering my charbroiled bbq beef with imperial roll over vermicelli noodles. The service was really friendly through, I give them that. Just not the place for a vietnamese sandwich.
