Just drove by this restaurant and noticed it is now Closed and property is for Lease/Sale. Been here several times and have enjoyed it. Another Restaurant Gone but not forgotten.

The food itself is relatively good, given the price. It is no House of Prime Ribs, but I would put it up there with Ruth Chris and better than Outback. The service there is very individual. Who doesn’t like attention!

Per John B.‘s 1⁄9th review, this restaurant apparently has gone dark. My uncle stopped in tonight trying to have a pre-flight meal and found the entire building had gone dark. A short time later, I called their reservations number and the phone is no longer in service. Another dark day for a longtime restaurant.

Entering the restaurant, sorta felt I was walking into my grandmother’s house. No one was at the entrance to greet me. It was 6pm. Ordered the standard cut prime rib, baked potato, vegetables. First out was the loaf of bread, was hotter than a cup of McDonalds coffee. Assuming it wasn’t just fresh out of the oven(how we wish), I won’t speculate how it got so hot. It was ok after it cooled down, but felt no desire to ask for more… There were two pepper shakers on the table. No salt. Details… Not a lot to say about the prime rib, baked potato, or mixed vegetables. They were just there. I ordered no drink. Bill came to $ 29.34. I passed a Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet on the way, probably should have stopped, and had enuf left over for BART for 2 days. I «felt» and saw the staff trying. I really do wish them well. Doubt the restaurant will be around next year if it stays as is. I was offered to fill out a card to receive discounts. Think not.

After coming to this place a few times, it’s time to write them a little review. So far, I’ve had their prime rib sandwich, cajun ahi tuna sandwich, and dungeness crab cake sandwich. Let me tell you, all 3 were spot on. The prime rib was juicy and tender, and the tuna was seared just the way I like it, mmm. The crab cake was delicious too, but then again, how hard can deep frying something be? If you’re by the airport and need a hefty meal, stop by here. You won’t regret it!

I have often passed this restaurant to and from the airport and had a friend come in late at SFO one night, so we stopped in for dinner. The parking lot had a sign about locking your car and not leaving anything valuable in view as there had been several break ins — oh this is already off to a good start. Now I have to worry about my car the whole time I’m in there eating. Not very crowded for a Friday night, but we did get there around 8:45PM, so most folks have had dinner by then. Décor — 70s DARK — We split an order of Prime Rib Spring Rolls — sounded maybe better than the actual appetizer — prime rib, blue cheese, caramelized onions deep fried with sweet/sour sauce — but hit the spot for something late night. Taco Bell should put this on their late night menu. Entrée — I had the Chicken Dijon in honor of an upcoming trip to Paris. Lightly fried in a Panko crust the Dijon sauce was blended with a white wine cream sauce and I would like the recipe for that sauce — it was really delicious. You get your choice of basic sides and I had the Seasonal Veggies(a little overcooked, but maybe the chef wanted to go home) and the dry Rice Pilaf –eh — okay — lucky I had the white wine sauce to help that along. You also get choice of soup/salad with your entrée — it was Friday, so I had the Clam Chowder — serviceable — but you get better on the wharf. This place is probably better known for the beef. My friend had the beef and was satisfied. I don’t think Ruth Chris or Morton’s is rushing over here for tips, but standard steakhouse fare from what I could see and if you’re hungry and we were. the hungry hunter will do in a pinch.

PRIMERIBANDLOBSTER!!! PRIMERIBANDLOBSTER!!! PRIMERIBANDLOBSTER!!! Hungry yet??? Okay, now that I have stopped being a dweeb let me tell you about my experience here. Our waiters name was Lucas, and he was an excellent server who treated us like guest at his house. It was awesome to get such good service. I got, let me see… what was that again? Oh right… PRIMERIBANDLOBSTER! Which was excellent. The prime rib was done right, and I couldn’t complain. My lobster was great, juicy and full of flavor. At the end of our meal we shared a great big slice of mud pie, and yes it was good. If your around South San Fransisco, or around the Air Port or just looking for a great steak dinner PLEASE go to Hungry Hunter!

Great experience from start to finish. My wife and I Decided to try this place out for our anniversary. From the outside it’s less than impressive but the inside is warm and welcoming with a very casual and relaxed atmosphere. We started off by ordering a bottle of Rodney Strong Pinot noir and a couple of appetizers(Hot & spicy shrimp and crab stuffed mushrooms). Both appetizers were good but the shrimp really stood out! After finishing our appetizers our waiter served us our salads to order right at the table, this was a nice touch. On to the real reason you go to a steakhouse THEMEAT! I ordered the house cut prime rib which looked like it was from an episode of the Flintstones and my wife ordered the filet mignon. Both cuts of meat came out medium rare as we requested and were perfectly tender.(Awesome horseradish) Yummy yummy yummy! When it came time to pay the bill our waiter came out a mudd pie for dessert. He must have overheard us talking about our anniversary because we didn’t order it but we sure did eat it and will definitely be ordering it every time we come back. Beyond the great meal what really made our night a memorable one was way we were treated by the staff from the time we walked in to the time we drove away. They really made us feel like welcomed guests as oppose to just another customer. We will certainly be coming back!

Overall the food was good. The host was nice and prompt. But the waiter seemed like he could only do one thing at a time. No multi-tasking ability. He also reached over in front of my mom to grab a plate instead of simply going behind her to her left side to get the plate. That’s just a personal no-no that is unprofessional to me. The steaks and prime rib were tender and good, However, my aunt ordered it rare and it came more medium. When we asked about it the waiter mumbled something about that if it’s too rare it’ll be undercooked… huh??? Isn’t that the point about ordering your meats rare? You want it undercooked! I felt like he didn’t want to bring it back to get her order right. But it was still good, just not the way my aunt wanted it. Also, not a big fan of the chicken with sun dried tomatoes. It was a bit too greasy. Only ate half… The calamari appetizer was a bit greasy too. So maybe that got me greased out a bit more than usual before my entrée came in. Like I said, the food was good and the service was adequate. So I’d still return. When I do I’ll just be sure to order something like the prime rib. And if it comes medium, that’s okay since that’s how I like it.

Prime rib baby!!! I don’t know why it has a such a low rating, but I love this place for their prime rib. I have been to all the famous prime rib house and they were all just okay. Honestly it’s prime rib, how can you make it bad, right??? It’s all good unless you overcooked it(I like mine rare) But I’ve been to Hungry Hunter a few times now, There’s only one time I didn’t order prime rib and I regret it(I ordered steak and my dear ordered prime rib so we can share). Their steak is very good too, but in my book, no grilled steak can beat a piece of soft tendered prime rib. Anyways, their prime rib here is always very tendered(marble meat!!). It always come out rare like I ask and very tasty. It’s different from other named restaurants. Honestly I don’t care if they are aged or not, or certified or whatever as long as it is good. They are also usually not that packed and service is good. Most of the time it’s pretty quiet so you can have a conversation.

What can I say? It’s Hungry Hunter. Nothing spectacular, but it’s not too shabby. Table side served salad with various topping — good. New York strip steak with steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes. Side of Bearnaise sauce. I have to eat everything well done right now(preggers), but the steak was good. Not over cooked and not dry. Good cut of beef without a lot of fat. Broccoli was broccoli. Mashed potatoes — very creamy and garlicky. I like it. Hubby had the top sirloin with steamed broccoli and baked potato. He didn’t have an opinion of it one way or another, but he did clean off his plate — so I’m guessing he liked everything? Like I said, it’s not a gourmet steakhouse, but for $ 50(for two), it satisfied a craving for beef.

Love it! Prime rib is the best! The steak just doesn’t cut it after you’ve had the prime rib. Caesar salad is also bomb. Good ambience, but sometimes you feel like you’re in an old folks home because a lot of older people go here, with the occasional family dinner or date-night.

I got a Groupon for this place. Never having been here before I thought it was a cheesy restaurant chain like Outback. Well, it is much nicer than Outback, with better food and service. We were a tad too casual coming here and it probably wasn’t the best choice for our ten month old who was throwing Cheerios and screaming for fun. The sea of blue hair wasn’t too happy with us. The food was good, better than Outback for sure. I had the seared Ahi and it was very good. My fiancé had the Prime Rib and wasn’t happy but who would be when the House of Prime Rib is your standard? I think the place is too expensive in general for what they serve, but our server was very nice and the manager was great in helping us with our multiple Cheerio fouls and clean up =) The only real downer was the hostess. She was not nice at all. If it hadn’t taken me ten minutes to get out of the car with the baby and would take me another ten to get back in, i would have walked out before getting seated.

I’ve only been here twice and the second time killed any chances of me going back willingly. First off Service made the transition from barely there to never there. As in 15 minutes standing at the unattended counter… in an empty restaurant at 1pm… bad sign. Then we finally get our orders taken in and I get my food in a reasonable amount of time to receive the driest burger I ever had the misfortune to attempt to eat. Then went on for 30 minutes of zero service forcing me to take the sandwich on with no sauce and an empty cup of water… giving me incentive to buy lubricants for future dates… Flash back from nasty images to food the only reason this place got any stars was the off chance that this was a bad day and i still have find memories of the first time i went and enjoyed a decent prime rib meal which maybe deserved 3.5 stars. *end rant*

Was a bit dubious going to a chain. as I’ve been to some of the best prime rib houses(ie Lawrys in LA). The prime rib here is so tender it melts in your mouth. Very impressed with quality and taste. Ceaser is not too wet and perfectly seasoned with a good anchovie ceaser dressing.

I can be accused of loving high end meals, but sometimes you just want something straight forward and satisfying. Since there was not a lot open on Memorial Day we opted to go for middle America fine dining and hit up Hungry Hunter. This place is a total throwback. A purposely distressed exterior with an old school interior that matches the 40 year old claim to prime rib they’ve been serving for a long time. Got a NY Steak with mashed potatoes, rice pilaf and an order of tato skins to boot. I thought everything was decent. Steak hit the spot and so did the skins. The pilaf and mash were just ok. The service that night was surprisingly friendly, well timed and efficient. I can only imagine if the food were more refined, it could be a solid place. I’d rate it higher than the Applebee’s and Sizzler’s of the world while being along the lines of an Outback or Claim Jumper. 3.5 stars

Nothing spectacular! From the outside this place looks really old, as if it was going to fall and collapse on its own. Inside it looks like an old cozy cottage. But, the lights were way too dim that I felt like my family and I were eating in the dark! I ordered the New York Strip Steak. Which according to the menu is a «traditional steak lover’s favorite.» Nope! Not a favorite for me at this restaurant. Too dry! I had to top it off with sautéed mushrooms to make it taste better. But, the mushrooms were pretty dry as well. The mushrooms were supposed to be sautéed in garlic but I didn’t taste any garlic. The broccoli was huge! The mashed potatoes… well… NOTGOODATALL! It had stuff mixed in it. I don’t know exactly what it was. I feel like it was onions. I HATEONIONS! They don’t have a dessert menu but a dessert tray with a plastic mold version of all the desserts they have. I thought that was pretty cool. The desserts were nothing surprising. The menu states… «Choose from a variety of decadent specialties from our mountain high Mudd Pie to our unique cheesecakes.» Unique cheesecakes? We ordered the Oreo Cheesecake. I can buy that at Safeway! And we also got the chocolate fudge brownie w/Vanilla Ice Cream. It was alright. The service from the waiter was decent. But, I won’t be coming back here again.

I may be eating around the airport too often lately. I had always wondered about Hungry Hunter because I passed it on 101 all the time but didn’t know it was a restaurant until a couple of years ago. I think I thought it was a sporting goods store. Anyway, we decided to give it a shot the other night. It’s very cabin like inside and they seated us upstairs. Alone. Kind of weird but the waitress was nice and we were able to order relatively quickly. I had the prime rib with steamed broccoli. The broccoli was literally a stalk of broccoli. It was steamed just fine but it looked like I had a plant on my plate. The prime rib itself was fine. More medium than the medium rare I ordered but it was sufficiently tender. I thought we got a lot of food for the price so I wasn’t disappointed. I still prefer HOPR, of course, but I wouldn’t object to coming back. Don’t judge me.
